Re: Nintendo Says More Animal Crossing: New Horizons Content Is In Development, Next Update Drops This Week

DK-Fan

@LXP8 I agree with that. But at the same time I feel it lacks a bigger sense of community and things to do than, let's say, New Leaf.

Here in Horizons they gave more emphasis to DIY stuff and decorate and shape your island. Which is nice. But you just can decorate and change your island so many times until you say "that's enough". New leaf made you feel like you were in a town, villagers felt more genuine and upgrading the main street felt like an achievement. Horizons feels more barren in comparison.

I still like the game and keep playing it but I do miss that sense of community and personality New leaf had.

Good article and many of the obscure games that have been released in the past, for the NES and SNES were actually fun to play and some of them never heard of. Fans are used to the typical Top best and forget that both NES and SNES have lots of oscure gems that deserved to be tried.

Also, like I said before, we should stop waiting for the big ones from Capcom, Konami, Square et al. They won't canibalize their own games selling on the eshop. And old licensed games? That's IP Hell. Forget about them.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD - A Remaster That Truly Soars

@NEStalgia My issue is that he has stated that he doesn't like zelda and that he only liked Link to the past because he keeps cutting grass and link's awakening because of the drama. So why is somebody that doesn't like Zelda (or gets Zelda) in charge of Zelda? Since he is in charge of the series he has done some weird changes:

1.-Zelda is about a fantasy setting inspired by Celtic and Arthurian legends. Wind waker has silly pirates, spirit tracks have GODDAMN TRAINS! and Skyward sword has high school drama. Link's awakening is different because it was a dream and a tongue-in-cheek project.

2.-Zelda is about action/adventure with exploration and growth. It didn't have puzzles until LttP and it was complementary. He only makes dungeons with room after room of puzzles over and over again. He replaced exploring a huge world to explore with a tiny 4x4 square world (Majora's), a boring sea, TRAIN TRACKS! and a dull cloudy sky and a corridor world.

3.The stories were mostly fantasy-based on classic stories. But now are a weird mix of western, treasure island, GODDAMN TRAINS!, and School drama.

4.I am tired of seeing his daddy issues over and over again and I bet he was severely bullied at school because Link or another character is always bullied by everybody. Also seeing weak feminine men with big manly women tells me that's he has serious domestic issues at home and we must suffer with him. Get therapy, dude!

Breath of the wild is different because SS had very low sales and the director and the new staff were actually fans of the classic Zelda (and it shows). Twilight Princess has also less of Aounuma style because Miyamoto pretty much forced him to do it that way after the mediocre sales of Wind waker.

The only reason why he is still in charge of Zelda is that he ships the games on schedule. But the series declined on sales when he got in. In another company, he would have been fired or replaced by somebody that actually likes the series.

Never liked SS then and despite the QoL changes and the framerate I doubt I'll get this one. SS was the peak of the awful Aounuma's puzzles-and-daddy-issue style of gameplay that started with Majora's, got worse with Wind waker, kinda improved with Twilight Princess but got rotten with this one.

Remember that Breath of the wild was a success not thanks to Aounuma but despite him. I fear that if this remaster became successful, he will believe again that he is a genius (HAH!) and will infect BoTW2 with his toxic style.

Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Dread Be The Franchise's 'Awakening'?

DK-Fan

Many weren't even born then or too young to remember, but Metroid was promoted as a "hardcore" game for "Pro" gamers that had already beaten Super Mario and Zelda. Even the commercial for the NES game had the NES advantage because "Real gamers" used Joysticks, not D-PAD.

Super Metroid was created to make Metroid more mainstream and accessible. And the game bombed and was even criticized by Metroid fans for being too easy. It didn't start to be recognized until much later.

Metroid Prime is the most successful because it used new technology mixed with SM gameplay (which by then was getting more appreciation). It sold mostly with Super Metroid fans. But Fusion wasn't that accepted because it was too linear and too story-based. Yeah, many don't remember or know but that game wasn't a huge hit like many revisionists like to paint. Prime was more Metroid than Fusion.

Since then no other Metroid has been that successful. M:OM tried to attract a female audience and the "casual" fallacy and it crashed and burned terribly.

Metroid only sell to Metroid fans. It's not a mainstream audience. Even the genre is pretty niche and only available on indie games that are created by people that grew up with Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night (another Metroid-based game that wasn't a huge hit then but got respect later).

So No. No it won't awake the franchise. It may be a nice success considering that we have been without a Metroid game for a decade but after that, it will return to sleep until Metroid Prime 4 appears and who knows when that will be.

Metroid is and has always been a niche series inside Nintendo. And Dread is no different. Nintendo fans will buy it and that's it.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

DK-Fan

@Classic603 I always had the feeling that they made Metroid Prime 3 that way to compete with Halo which at the time was very popular. I like it a lot but they took a lot of the original and the series magic. At least they kept the exploration and upgrade elements.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

DK-Fan

@Spiders I played it and I can say that as an action-adventure game is Ok-ish. As a Metroid game is just plain bad.

Metroid is about exploration and MOM took all that. The moment Sakamoron said that people liked Super Metroid because of Samu's maternal instincts should tell anybody that the dude has no freakin' idea why people likes Metroid. He is just there because he is the only one of the original Metroid team that isn't dead or retired.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

DK-Fan

@jerichofr Ahahahaha! That's the most dumb thing I 've ever read. "I like X instead of Y and anyone that likes Y is intelectually inferior". These are video games hon! Chill out!

OT: My personal favorite is Metroid Prime because it's the game that introduced me to the series. Super Metroid comes in second. I am not a big fan of Sakamoto's direction with the series. The dude is way too obsessed with film tropes, character arcs and another artsy mumbo jumbo that doesn't fit on Metroid. He is the typical failed mangaka/filmmaker and it uses games as a way to shove his frustrations. Still, Metroid Fusion was kinda fun. M:OM was a huge disaster though.

People should try and play the originalNES Metroid at least once. Yeah, it lacks many QOL stuff and all but the sense of isolation and dread (hehe) and the though-as-nails exploration is one of a kind and no other metroid has tried to replicate it.

Re: After Months Of 'Switch Pro' Rumours, Nintendo Officially Unveils The Nintendo Switch OLED Model

DK-Fan

People here sad/angry/dissapointed that the Super Mega Pro Switch RUMOR was only that, a RUMOR.

Why would Nintendo release a new switch with improved processing when it is selling that crazy? That will happen when sales start to go down which is not the case.

This goes in line with the revisions they do to their mobile hardware (the Switch is still a mobile console) just giving it small improvements until the successor comes.

And that will take some time.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

DK-Fan

The "why $60!? should be less!" argument is absurd considering that making games is very expensive and has been rising since the 2000s.

Also, the huge majority of gamers that complain are the ones thart for them gaming is about status. And Nintendo is "below them" (i.e "hardcore" gamers, PC master race). So the idea of paying THE SAME PRICE THEY PAY IN OTHER CONSOLES for a Nintendo game is preposterous because for them Nintendo games have no value...even if Nintendo games have much better quality than many competitors and sell for much longer.

It's like they complain that Nintendo doesn't cut the prices of their games. Companies cut the price of the games when sales start to decline. That's why Red dead redemption was at 40 dls after a few months because the sales started to plummet while Breath of the wild is at the same price...BoTW still sells a lot. RDD2 is not.

In other words: pure elitism and snobbism from so called "Nintendo fans" that enjoy seeing Nintendo losing.

Re: Metroid Games You Need To Play Before Metroid Dread

DK-Fan

I agree with Super Metroid being the perfect Metroid entry game for newcomers. It has the first Metroid formula but with many adjustments to make it friendlier to play and easy to navigate while still being challenging enough.

And the more we pretend Metroid MOM never existed, the better.

Re: Metroid Games You Need To Play Before Metroid Dread

DK-Fan

"Fusion technically follows the events of Metroid: Other M, a title that sits between the GBA entry and Super Metroid in the timeline but is viewed as a spin-off of sorts thanks to its differences from past games and its first-person perspective"

Don't you mean Metroid Prime? MOM is not first person
