The character roster in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate technically should have stopped expanding a while ago, but in September 2019 Nintendo announced it would keep going with a second fighter pass.
So far it's given us Min Min from ARMS, Steve and Alex from Minecraft, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and now Kazuya from Tekken. That brings us to the very last slot in Fighters Pass Volume 2.
During the latest "Mr. Sakurai Presents" - showcasing Kazuya, the game's director briefly touched on this next fighter at the very end of the broadcast. While it's still a while away, he's made it clear that this time around, it really will be the last fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He also reaffirmed it would be arriving this year:
"Up until now, we've created all sorts of fighters and stages. Gathering all of these games, new and old, and compiling them into a single product is a task that has meant a lot to me. Now that I think about it, it's been close to 10 years since Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems was in development. I've been working on this for a long time. You could call it my life's work.
"But finally, the next DLC fighter will be the last one. There won't be any more after that. It'll be a while before that announcement, but it'll be available this year as planned, so please be patient. It seems like the team will have to complete this project at home, right up until the end. Until then, we hope you enjoy playing as Kazuya Mishima."
There you go then - with a roster of over 80 characters, the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch will finally be complete when the next fighter arrives. Who do you think will be lucky last? Who would you like it to be? Share your thoughts down below.

One, Please, oh please don't end it here, It would be great if they could just do one more.
Two: I Just don't want it to be a first party, or if it is, a good one.
Joel from the last of us.
I am glad this is the last one, this man deserves to rest.
Not that it's my dream character, but it would be cool to finish it off with master hand. The character we all dreamed of playing as since the first one, and there was even a taste of it in the story. Finish the smash journey with an original smash character.
That is perfectly fine, there is no need for any more characters imo, give the man a vacation, he deserves it, and maybe we will see something new from him in the future.
It's the ball from Pong.
Or E.T. from the Atari 2600 game.
@Davzilla You know, I was just thinking that earnestly, even before I reached the comments! ๐ Great minds think alike!
I'm kinda leaning to the sentimental side of the fan suggestions and would like it to be a Sakurai stand-in. The guy's looking on retirement. He's made this series to be his life's work as he says and its payoff has clearly shown. If Harada can sneak himself into Tekken and Soul Calibur every now and then, I don't see this being too big an ask.
But that's not the fun suggestion that fans will debate is so stupid to even suggest, so I dunno. The Dragon from Adventure to really throw the retro crowd a king-sized bone.
@Snatcher How about Tabuu? It would fit the bill? Either him or some other surprise nobody asked for or expected.
It's been nearly three years now, it had to stop at some point.
Glad it's coming to an end at last, hopefully Sakurai gets a good restful retreat after this. Whoever the final Smash fighter is, at least it'll end Smash Ultimate for good until the next game.
@SkullDragr E.T. is not a videogame character so it won't be that.
@AgentGuapo
Mario Golf already released
Boney. The count of dogs in Smash's roster is ludicrously low.
I'm glad it will be his LAST ONE. I'm tired of hearing all the fans on repeat. "Nooooo not Dante!" "Why another sword figher!" "Please just add Goku!" "Maybe Master Chief?" "How come my favorite franchise of all time didn't make it?"
@Ghost_of_Hasashi It was clearly a joke. Same as my pong ball joke.
But seriously, I think it will be Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl.
Honestly, I'm glad that he flat out said it. I would have been happy to see more, but I'm also content with what we have. The fact that he's getting it out of the way now means people have plenty of time to deal with how they feel about that before the last fighter does get announced. It's finally almost time that he gets to rest.
@YoshiAngemon I was thinking about that too, what if they did a smash original?
I think Ultimate should be the last title in the series. I can't think of anything that can top this game's magnitude of content. I don't think he'll retire though, as he's only 50 (will be 51 in August), but he should take a break.
Well since this is my favorite franchise I'll always just be wanting more and more but 3 years in it makes sense to take a break and then start working on the next installment. I want fixes to the mechanics more than I want a 3rd DLC pass right now, the air dodge punishment and the extreme buffering are really annoying for me but I've still had a blast and played just about every day since launch.
@KingBowser It makes too much money for them to ever stop. All they have to do is trim some fat and make room for more new characters and deeper mechanics and it will easily be enough for another buy in. Honestly they could just sell Ultimate Deluxe as a 4K HDR remaster with a couple bonus characters for the Switch 2 and it would sell millions.
I would love to see Morrigan Aensland from Darkstalkers as the final DLC character but I feel like she might be too revealing for Sakurai.
@Clod I actually think that's the best option. If it's a first party character, those wanting a third party character will complain. Same goes for third party for those wanting a first party. Let alone either of those options would need to be highly requested. Sakurai being represented as the final fighter I don't think will be as disappointing. I think many more would understand and respect the choice.
I honestly kinda want botw's champions
NO! 100 characters or bust! Unacceptable, Sakurai!
I think that Nintendo's going to end with a first party character. The final announcement has to be huge, so I'm hoping for someone we'd never expect such as: Duck Hunt, Piranha Plant.
@the4seer I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't call Duck Hunt or Piranha Plant "huge".
I hope they nail it with the last character. No one wants another ****storm like when people thought Byleth was the last character to get in Smash.
I want master chief just to fight while the halo theme plays. I wish they would have added break the targets as well before ending DLC.
@the4seer Frisk from Undertale is the last fighter, mark my words. Sans is the ONLY mii with a bonus track that doesn't have a spirit. Toby Fox is friends with Sakurai, and Sans made fans freak out. Toby has done music on some nintendo titles, plus Undertale is HUGE in japan.
Groose - The best video game character ever! Literally I would lose my mind if he was the next dlc character, and it would make my smash petition good for something. Groose fans unite!
...It's going to be another Pokemon or Fire Emblem...
...
Whatever it'll be I'll end up being disappointed as always, none of the characters on my wish list never made it. T.T
Didn't he say after the first wave of DLC characters that that would be it? And then he made more anyways? Sakurai has put so much heart and soul into the game that I hope he means it this time. He's overworked himself before and I hope he'll take some time to rest. Or slow down at least.
Then I'll be ordering the mural in all its glory!
@Devlind
No one thought Byleth was the last character getting into Smash Ultimate. They announced a second fighter pass way before they revealed Byleth. Educate yourself.
I can already sense a great amount of disappointment generated from that final Fighter. I highly doubt there is going to be a Fighter that'll cater to the majority of fans.
A first-party character would be the worst idea possible. Ever since the Byleth Incident, my greatest fear was that the final fighter would be coming from Nintendo. Even as a Zelda fan, I really do not want to see Impa come into Smash, as the ship has sailed for her to join.
Hope Sakurai adds himself as a character, even if it's a joke Mii Fighter outfit.
Hmmm, maybe a Kirby character? Since he basically started his career with Kirby, it would be pretty awesome for him to close this off with some classic Kirby.
Dynablade? Chef Kawasaki?
... Gooey?
I'd love something that makes no sense, like the great deku tree, a shiny magikarp, or the grave digger from Ocarina with a chicken on his shoulder.
I still think that the final character is gonna be a big fan favorite that many have asked for, so Iโm going with three. Waluigi (thatโs right), master chief, or crash bandicoot. For those of you askingโwhy not sora?โ No, just a strict no to sora, heโs one of those characters I hate because of the fans, which means he ainโt making it on the list. I just pray itโs one of those three, or weโll get a Pokรฉmon (which I would find hype personally) but the amount of outrage if one were to happen would be hilarious. In summary I just feel the last dlc will be a โletโs try to break the internet...AGAIN!โ character and I just hope to god it ainโt first party.
Shrek. Shrek. Shrek. Shrek.
@SkullDragr Best character ever!
Reggieโs body is ready!!
Man...was kinda hoping for one more pass with just 3 last characters...but I get it. Dude needs a break...well, it was an amazing ride while it lasted
@Sakurai

*smh... he doesn't know how to rest. Will probably start development of the next smash
Honestly, keeping a roster of 80 as balanced as Smash Bros is is quite a feat, and every one makes it a little bit harder. I don't even know where the series can go from here. If the next iteration starts with 80 characters, what can they do to keep it interesting? If it starts with fewer it will be a letdown.
I daresay Sakurai may have actually looked "Ultimate" up in the dictionary before naming this entry. (Hint: It doesn't just mean "really good.")
Balan!
The reveal is Sakurai lighting a cigarette and walking away from the explosion in slow motion.
I'm positive it will be Nahobino from the new SMT V, Nintendo will help their old pal ATLUS rank up the sales of an IP which the mainline SMTs are almost exclusive to the Nintendo platforms.
@Pak-Man
I don't think the next smash needs to have 80+ characters.
Unpopular opinion here but I would reduce duplicates such as marth/Lucina or mario/Dr Mario or Link(s). Create a quality roster of characters that are wholly unique. Then smash can become a service like Fortnite seasonal content or they can focus on a sub space mode to differentiate.
I wonder if smash bros could thrive as a 3D arena brawler akin to powerstone?
I think it would be cool if for the final smash character reveal, it starts with Mario and Luigi fighting Wario. Wario is getting attacked mercilessly and just as heโs about to get KOโd, we see a purple flash. The camera slowly scrolls up and reveals Waluigi. He and Wario laugh and are ready to take out Mario and Luigi.
Suddenly, out of nowhere a voice calls out โHOLD IT!โ The camera zooms toโฆ โPhoenix Wright objects.โ Then the video shows off Phoenix Wrightโs moves and he uses his Final Smash to KO Waluigi. Not gonna happen, but it would be a fun thing to watch.
At this point, Goku in smash would be the Ultimate send off. One last broken rule, one last F-U to the haters, and one last highly requested character.
I think it would be hilarious. Even if you don't like the idea you gotta admit ge would make for a fun asf moveset
@Nookingtons who's that
Really hoping it's a Smash original character from the game's past, like Tabuu, Primid, Master Core, Wireframes, whatever. A Smash original character would be more of a perfect endcap than any of the "most highly requested" characters could dream of being.
How about the EMMI from Dread? Nintendo sometimes does cross promotion things like that, iirc
It's gonna be Mario from the 90s movie.
We all know it was coming to an end sooner or later. The last character will be the big talk no doubt when announced. Could be something amazing or very disappointing. Canโt wait to see who it is. My pickโฆ Rabbid Peach ๐
I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be something else past Fighters Pass 2 - not necessarily a character, but the Nintendo of Australia URL string thing is likely not a mistake since it's sandwiched between 2 occupied URL slots
There's conspicuously enough space on the DLC Spirit Board screen to fit a 12th board (since there's space above the Persona board), but I still won't hold my breath. Hopefully the final reveal breaks Smash tradition for last reveals and is actually something major and neat
@Monzerol Magolor.
1. He has the most recurring appearances for a modern-era Kirby character.
2. He's the last original character made for the Kirby franchise during Sakurai's tenure there before he left HAL Labs to head Sora, LTD, for that career book-end effect.
3. Two variations of his boss fight theme are already available in Ultimate as selectable music for Kirby and original stages.
4. He has already shown the potential for having a wide and varied moveset, thanks to Kirby: Star Allies and Kirby Fighters.
5. He's cute and round, at least in his first form, which allows differentation from the humanoid fighters dominating the DLC roster while at the same time using the Kirby/Meta Knight/Jigglypuff skeleton for relative ease of development.
@thiz
I wish, but they already produced a mii costume for Travis, so he's out.
Waluigi and I would play again, a lot
"We're in the Endgame now."
The pressure is definitely gonna be on to deliver a final character that is satisfying enough, even if it's not on everyone's personal wish list. Regardless of who it is though, Sakurai and the rest of the Smash crew definitely deserve a proper break.
And we are in a position where we don't really need another new Smash game for probably the next decade. Nintendo could very well get away with dropping a random content/balance update every few years, and I'd be content.
the last fighter will be
GOOMBA from mushroom Kingdom. ''Will be ready to get STUMPED''
http://7-themes.com/data_images/out/16/6822461-goomba.jpg
@Narrator1 Magolor made his first appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land in 2010. Sakurai left HAL after the completion of Kirby Air Ride, which I believe was in like 2003.
Time for a new username lol
I know people probably mean well, but if I were Sakurai, I think I would be a little offended by how much everyone feels sorry for him. The amount of overworking he's done in the past is concerning, but I really think that's just because he's a perfectionist and he puts that kind of a workload on himself. Think about it: Nintendo delayed New Horizons by a year so the Animal Crossing developers wouldn't have to suffer an unreasonable amount of crunch. Do you really think it's Nintendo forcing him to slave away? They might be a flawed company, but I don't think Nintendo is so unethical they're running a sweatshop and standing over him with a whip. If they were that authoritarian, he wouldn't be able to get by with all the jokes about company management that he makes in his Sakurai Presents videos.
I'm absolutely appreciative for all Sakurai has given us in terms of Smash content, but treating him like a delicate flower just seems a little patronizing. He's even gone on record in the past to say making DLC fighters has been far less strenuous than developing the whole game. I don't understand why there has to be this ultimatum where either Sakurai is miserable but we keep getting DLC characters or Sakurai takes a vacation and then never works on Smash again. He could take a break and leave Smash on a one-year hiatus, and then he could come back and make more content down the road or something. The hype would absolutely still be there.
People take vacations, but then it's right back to work for most of us. Sakurai isn't any different. Has he profited off Smash enough and made a large enough mark in the gaming space that he could retire now and never have to lift a finger again? In all likelihood, yes. But he said in his recent Famitsu column that isn't on his radar righr now, and we should respect that decision. Sakurai seems to me like the kind of person who would get very antsy when he isn't working on something productive. This is why I think Reggie came out of retirement so quickly; having too much time on one's hands can be difficult to manage. At best it gets boring, and at worst, it's hard on the nerves. Some people are only happy when they're hard at work.
So yeah, I sincerely hope this isn't the end for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and I don't think that's selfish of me to say so. If Sakurai never touches the series again and my dreams of getting Crash and Rayman into the game are dead, I have to admit I'll be very disappointed, but he will still be my favorite game developer of all time, regardless. I just don't see him doing that though, because Sakurai is a man who loves gaming with a passion, and he's acknowledged how privileged he's been to work with all these beloved franchises. If making Smash wasn't at least somewhat fun and exciting for him, I don't think he would do it. With everything else on his plate, why would he take the time to post daily Twitter screenshots and celebrate anniversary milestones if it wasn't important to him?
This isn't targeted at anyone specifically, but I've seen it in comments here and especially on Twitter where anyone who hopes Sakurai will keep making Smash content is labeled as selfish and ungrateful and that they don't want the "poor" man to ever rest. You wouldn't tell Picasso to stop painting or Beethoven to stop composing or Michael Jordan to stop shooting hoops if they love doing what they're talented at and have no mind to quit. To do so is a bit insulting to their legacy, don't you think?
@SkullDragr I always dream for either Bo or Mike Tyson it would just be so mind bending and a great call back to the NES. Obviously it won't happen but maybe on some other level of the tower...
Just release the mural as a poster please!
Fair play Sakurai. Thanks for all the hard work. I reckon it'll be another Pokemon.
Good. He's one of those rare developers that love video games and work hard for them. He deserves it.
Master Chief has gotta make it in. Even the Arbiter, or both with one as an echo fighter
At 12 added characters since launch it's enough. Been a great ride but I'm happy enough to get off it now and just enjoy the game as complete.
The speculation, theories, demands, leaks ,reactions and fights over characters I'm just very over it all now.
Even the excitement of the reveals has faded a bit. The games great he did a brilliant job he deserves his time off.
What I hope is that Sakurai gets to do something other than Smash once Ultimate's DLC is over. The man will have to go back to develop the next Smash game for the next Nintendo console sooner or later (the series is the too big to miss a generation), but sometimes I feel like he's wasting his talents just making Smash (even though it's evident that he puts lots of care when making each installment). Then again I don't know how he will feel about it... perhaps it'll be best to hope that he gets to do what he wants.
The kind of hype that surrounds Smash is sometimes annoying, but everyone fosters it - we always want some new character (even if it is only as a means to get new games for that character), and Nintendo also pulls spectacular new character reveals (and they also use Smash appearances as a promotional tool, most notably with Fire Emblem characters). It's more complicated than just "fans ask too much" or "Nintendo pushes this kind of stuff".
I'd be perfectly OK if the next Smash has no third-party characters, but that's complicated too; it'd probably generate less hype, be seen as something of a step back, and, as mentioned before, Smash is a bit of an advertising tool, and from the beginning it was marketed as a meeting of popular game characters - it's like it's in its nature to expand to include non-Nintendo characters.
So, Smash. Sometimes it feels like it has grown into something ugly, but, well, if it would disapear overnight, we'd probably miss it...
Never say never. (oops, just said it twice!) I'm sure it could be something he could return to if he ever chooses to.
Darn, was kinda hoping they'd aim for ๐ฏ
Surely its got to be Knuckles, everyone else has had a second Character so far, and it would (kinda) tie in with the 30th Anniversary
(My list in order of importance.)
Q*bert
Q*bert
Chibi-Robo
Earthworm Jim
Q*bert
Trix Rabbit

I Think the last character will be a First party Character.
From a game that will be released or this year or next year (to hype the game)
I Hope its Zelda related. From the beginning breath of the wild was revealed i wanted the Champions in playable form in smashbros.
Also in a new Smashbros in the future, i want a complete overhaul on the characters, rework them and give them new moves. A adventure/storymode. Just pass the work on to another and Sakurai just keeps watch on the project to give more away. Seeing the last video of him, he was looking really tired.
The last fighter should be Sakurai himself
While I am still holding out hope for Doomguy, I agree that Sakurai himself would be the perfect cap.
I just realized, the game has representation from major fighting games, with the exception of Mortal Kombat. So Scorpion/Sub-Zero as a double entry?
Midna?
Crash?
Master Chief?
Doctor Robotnik?
Waluigi?
Toad?
Bet all those are wrong.
@J-dog Now that would be awesome hahahah
Man I would love to have Phoenix Wright as a fighter!
Too bad. Pass 2 has been a massive letdown for me.
@Whatsmyname Recalled that incorrectly then. Still, the ****storm lasted for days.
They should make it Master Hand if this is truly the last character in a Smash Bros game
As long as this means I can have a complete Mural to buy and perhaps even display, I am cool with that. Now where I would display it, I have no clue, given how long the final mural will be.
Like I said in a previous comment, I would be in for a fighter's pass 3, but I think the dev team could do with a break. I am fully expecting salt no matter what happens for the final character though.
Here's hoping for Flimbo!
If you'd asked me at the start of this year I would have said it'd be a shame not to continue to build on this monumental experience with another pass but at this stage it really is true Sakurai deserves a break, a long one. Not only does Sakurai deserve a break but I really feel the Smash community have grown overwhelmingly toxic. Every character announcement, every single one just leads to more bickering. Let it end.
A lot of awesome ideas here. Sakurai himself would be perfect, but I think heโs too humble for that. Master Hand or Tabuu, if toned down a little, would be an ideal substitute.
More likely to be an EMMI or 8th/4th gen Pokรฉmon. Maybe BOTW2 Zelda.
Iโd be happy with Crash, Robotnik, Phoenix Wright, Prof. Layton, Earthworm Jim, Rayman or Lara Croft. (The last 2 are fairly unlikely, since theyโre in Brawlhalla).
But Iโd go bananas for an off-the-wall random 1st Party character, like Chorus Kids, Balloon Fighter or Mach Rider.
Good, it's time to move on. Can't go on forever. The games been given more than enough continued updates since it's launch...
The just one more mentality will always mean people want just another fighter..
It has to stop at some point.
I will be happy with any new character, as long as it is not from Fire Emblem xD
@SmaggTheSmug I really hope Scorpion is next, but I don't see Nintendo including such a violent franchise in the Smash roster. Then again, Bayonetta ain't a happy-go-lucky game either, so who knows.
I literally donโt know how it will be possible to top this version of Smash. What an epic roster.
Not into the game so good, I'm sick of Smash.
All good things must come to an end. What a game and what a roster. The amount of content Nintendo, Sakurai and Namco has put into this game is outstanding.
As for the last character, I'd personally like to see Doom Guy, Crash or a Resident Evil character.
The only character I really wanted in smash from start is Neku Sakuraba, even if I doubted that he's gonna be in game, and I don't think he's gonna be last added character.
Well, fellas... it's been a heck of a ride, but it looks like the hype train is pulling in for its final stop. I remember way back when they announced the first fighters pass thinking "Man I really want to know who all these fighters are going to be! This is gonna take forever!"
Well, that's come and gone. Then they announced this pass to run through 2021, and I thought again "this is gonna take forever!"
Here we are already halfway through the year, and the last one is on the horizon. It's been great riding the train with all of y'all. Here's hoping this last character really blows everyone away.
Good. The characters have been less exciting for me with each announcement and Iโm sure Sakuri is tired of milking this series. Heโs 50 now and probably wants to retire within the next 10 years. I want him to take a vacation and afterwards begin directing for a different or brand new franchise. He deserves to pick what he wants to do for his inevitable last project or two.
EDIT: if thereโs another Smash Bros. game anytime soon, I can definitely see someone else taking the lead and Sakuri just โoverseeing developmentโ of it. Regardless, hope for the best of him!
We need the Knight or Hornet from Hollow Knight. Maybe it will coincide with the release of Silksong.๐ค
@Devlind
Every reveal had some form of ****storm. Except for maybe Banjo, but his ****storm came after when everyone realized he wasn't a good character.
@PBandSmelly He'd be too strong, and he would have to use the Dragon Balls to have Shenron balance things out. Because not everyone can beat the villains Goku went up against. Besides, I don't think it would work. This isn't neither Super Smash Flash, OR Smash Bros. LAWL. And besides, doesn't Smash have a 3-reps-per-company rule they don't like to bring up?
Konami - Snake, Simon and Richter
SEGA - Sonic, Bayonetta and Joker
Square Enix - Cloud, Hero and Sephiroth
Capcom - Mega Man, Ryu and Ken
Bandai Namco is fortunate enough to just have Pac-Man and Kazuya.
And Microsoft has Banjo & Kazooie and Steve.
I glad itโs the last one he needs to retire
GOOD do not give in to the ungrateful Smash fan base and make more DLC no more after this
@SkullDragr My roommate honestly, wholeheartedly, wants Ken Griffey, Jr. It drives me insane.
I think Iโll miss the excitement and hype of the announcements and the massive involvement of the fan base in predicting the next character the most. Thereโs really nothing else quite like it with any other game.
The developer character Sakurai with Miyamoto/Iwata skins!
That would be a truly awesome finishing touch for the game.
@PoliticallyIncorrect Cool for you. You don't need to comment on Smash articles fyi.
It would be great to see Sora from Kingdom Hearts, but at this point, I'll take him in the next Smash Bros. game. It makes sense to me to have Sakurai himself, Iwata-San or Reggie.
@Bret You're right! But I can, so I did.
@Bret haha hey, nobody has a baseball bat as their weapon yet! And that sweet swing. Like butter!
Edit - too early in the morning, forgot about Ness. Oh well, sorry Jr!
It likely there will be one more surprise character reveal after the fighters pack, Of course, it will not be announced until the end of Sakurai's final fighters pack presentation. I don't expect anymore after that though.
@Ryu_Niiyama It will be the most epic piece of art ever. I can't wait to see the final result
I'm just glad Tekken FINALLY got representation and Namco got a 2nd representative, given they aided with development and all. Well, I guess the real nailbiting begins. Who will be the last? I'd like it to be someone obscure from Nintendo's past like Stanley the Bugman from DK3 or Mike Jones from StarTropics, but I'm guessing that's sailed by now. It'll probably be a Famicom Detective Club, Game Builder Garage, or Labo representation lol. If it turned out to be Waluigi I'd just outright die laughing.
Iโd love to see Crash (I donโt think itโll happen) but I say one more fighter for this pass, then reveal ONE extra and let the man retire
@KingBowser If there's another smash, less focus on size and more on presentation. Could you imagine Smash back to a smaller roster like Melee, but for say 1v1 matches instead of characters spawning in there's a small cutscene interaction kind of like Mortal Kombat nowadays? So much more emphasis on interactions would be sweet
Part of me hopes that even though the DLC fighters will be done, that there could still be updates to add new/missing modes and a few of the missing stages.
But a much bigger part of me realizes that the next fighter is almost certainly it. The fighter will release and they'll wrap a bow on Ultimate. Still, I'm hoping that his language means that yes, even though fighters are done, we still have a big paid expansion on the way including familiar modes like Smash Run and Boss Rush, as well as new modes like maybe a Boss Vs. Mode where one player is one of the in game bosses and the other players can work together to try and beat you. I know, almost certainly not happening, but a man can dream.
@geiseldiesel I can't fathom the next Smash being built from the ground up. My best bet would be that they'll just revive Ultimate for the new system, push a 4K update or whatever and then just add to and improve to the game. And I don't mean like Wii U to Ultimate where modes were dropped and replaced and the UI had a drastic (and needed) change. I mean like MK8 to MK8D, where it's the same game but improved and with more content.
@duffmmann No one wants to play as some weird Smash original blob enemy.
I get what you are saying but literally everyone would hate that outcome gor the very last fighter.
@Bizzyb well you're wrong to use the word literally, because I'm all on board. But I get your sentiment. It would definitely make most sense as a bonus bookend fighter to compliment Piranha Plant. But even if Sakurai made it the actual final fighter of the pass, I'd be all on board. I'm sure he wants to celebrate Smash with the last character, and while fighters like Crash, Rayman, or Doom Slayer would be exciting, they lack any real oomph of finality. And I think Sakurai wants and deserves that finality, so if he were passionate about such a final fighter even if most the players weren't excited by the fighter, I would hope that most of us could at least respect why he would choose such a final fighter, and allow it all the same. Again, I absolutely would.
Waluigi or we riot!
@Jokerwolf I was never really a fan of Waluigi for Smash, but then one day someone explained that his moveset could be a celebration of Waluigi's purpose to fill out rosters in Mario Spinoff games, as he was created for Mario Tennis on the N64 for that specific reason.
Once that was pointed out to me, the possibilities did actually become exciting, moves could be based on Mario Kart, Tennis, Golf, Party, even that DDR for GameCube where Waluigi was the final boss.
I mean I'm not sitting here rooting for Waluigi, I never have been, but if they did him proper with a moveset like that, then I really wouldn't be angry at all if he did end up making the roster. Still, he's far from my first choice.
@YoungLink64 Maybe!
@I-U No. It's awful.
base game is fine, we didn't pay extra for that.
But you are forgetting how many people buy this DLC and still have no clue who Sakurai is. He isn't some god and he didn't make this game alone. For the majority of consumers it would either be such a MEH addition or outright disappointment.
But people paid for this and are expecting a character of some kind. Not the developer's self insert.
Iโm gonna be honest. With how close Nintendo and Microsoft have gotten this generation and the inclusion of Banjo, I would not be surprised at all if it ends up being Master Chief. Heโs the only character I could imagine being big enough to save for a final DLC slot to give the game a proper send off.
I like the idea of Taboo or something of that nature but it wouldnโt have the same impact. Few people in conversations are like โHey, I want to play as the final boss from Smash Bros Brawl.โ But so many people want to play as the poster boy for Microsoft.
So pretty much Iโm gonna say that my most likely picks are Master Chief, Phoenix Wright, Leon Kennedy, and (for lols) Bandana Dee.
๐ค๐ปPlease be a first party non swordsman or at least a classic character
Quote from Cave Story or Klonoa are my dreams but I doubt either one them will be added.
also not another Fire Emblem please.
@VexingInsanity I don't buy that people who bought the DLC have no idea who Sakurai is. I do agree though that the expectation is for the last character to be a video game character. I just don't see how it's going to go over well. They cannot for example announce both Waluigi and Master Chief, there is only a spot for one. It might've been better to announce the last two fighters in the same presentation, one being third party and one being first party.
@YoshiTails Was just going to say Toad, that would be perfect! (Was going to tell someone who said it would probably be first party.)
Midna would actually be really special. That would be awesome. Or maybe Tetra... whatever, I donโt even play my copy of Ultimate lol. (More of a Melee man.)
If I have my druthers the final DLC character for Smash Ultimate will be Master Chief. Not only is he one of the most iconic characters in all of gaming, but he would lend much needed variety to the existing roster with a broad selection of short and long-range attacks, potential special moves/finishes (MAC Cannon, anyone?), and of course that immediately familiar rocking musical theme (but they'd need to incorporate the space monks in there to get it JUST RIGHT).
Of course I am not holding my breath. Most of the recent DLC additions seem to come mostly from the Japanese side of the industry, and IMHO some of the choices have been questionable. So que sera, sera.
Personally I wish it would be something as a tribute like an empty character like Dural from VF but it morphs into famous Nintendo personalities as the skins. (Iโm sure that would be a legal nightmare and possibly disrespecting the dead but once Squeenix put its CEO in Nier Automata I sorta wanted to see something like that but not a mii fighter)
I canโt really think of someone else that I would want in. The concept of Smash is still mind blowing enough for me.
Wait. Urbosa or Impa. I would do something extreme for either of them.
Master Chief Finishes the Fight.
(come on, it's perfect lol)
"I'm glad it's over"
Hopefully not Master Chief. I wouldn't want Nintendo to affiliate itself with bad games.
@SkullDragr Then they better put in The Boz so someone can stop him. lol
Doc Lewis. After decades of training Little Mac, it's his time to kick ass!
I just want to have either Chrono, from Chrono Trigger, or Spencer from, Bionic Commando Rearmed
@Dasrai he makes video games, from what does he need rest from?
If the last DLC fighter is going to be a Nintendo character, I honestly feel that the last character should be a Splatoon character. It is really surprising to me that the Inklings(and Sonic) are the only characters in their own series, and it would make sense that if we got another Splatoon character. The main problem of this is who would be that Splatoon character? Many people think it would be the Octolings, but there are better options for another Splatoon character for candidates such as Off the Hook, DJ Octavio, or even a Salmonoid enemy. These characters would be more unique than the Octolings because from not justing having a possibly more unique moveset, but not being too similar to the Inklings.
Is there a character that Satoru Iwata really wanted to see in Smash that isn't currently represented? If not that could be an indication of what to expect as a final character in a project that Sakurai said he feels was his last job given to him by Mr. Iwata.
I bet itโll be Iwata!
It's gotta be something good. The best smash game in the series, 10 AMAZING fighters before it, it has to be something good.
I hope Crash Bandicoot will be the last fighter in the roster.
