Over the past week, Nintendo lifted the lid on Metroid 5 - no, it's not a sequel to the Metroid Prime game we're still waiting on, it's part of the original series dating all the way back to the NES era.
This new entry, known as Metroid Dread, is being co-developed by MercurySteam and has already seen pre-order success on Amazon and at retailers like GameStop. On top of this, a number of Nintendo fans are getting ready for the new game this September by playing through Samus's older adventures.
As a result, sale prices of the older titles have gone up online, and over on digital stores, Metroid games are selling like hotcakes. The return of Samus can even be seen over on the Wii U eShop - where Metroid games right now are topping the charts as "best sellers":
As you can see - it's the two Game Boy Advance titles - Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion. The Metroid Prime Trilogy is also featured on the same list underneath Brain Age. Once again, the timing is likely no coincidence. Since Nintendo revealed Metroid Dread last week, demand for the older entries has skyrocketed.
Have you recently purchased any Metroid games on the Wii U eShop since the reveal of Dread? Tell us down below.

I hope this makes Nintendo realize there's still a market for VC. Even if it means paying for individual games again instead of the subscription service like (S)NES.
Now let’s have some F-Zero and other dormant franchises Nintendo!
I’ll admit I pulled out the 2DS to start over on Samus Returns I’m ready!
This is awesome. I really do hope that Metroid Dread winds up being a big success for the series and it decides to stick around as more of a consistent Nintendo mainstay. I know the announcement finally convinced me to play Super Metroid, and Fusion! First time I've got some use out of that 3DS Ambassador Program in a few years. I see why everybody loves these games so much!
I would rather play Zero Mission and Fusion on the go but there’s no way I’m paying the current prices for those GBA carts. Since Nintendo doesn’t seem interested at all in adding valuable retro games to Switch Online, the good old Wii U will have to do.
@Loon_Call Are you kidding me? Of course there is a market, and I highly doubt Nintendo doesn't know that, but they should just go the Sega Ages/Arcade Archives/etc. route and drop them on the eShop.
Of course, they won't.
Well with the 6 August being the 35th Anniversary, Nintendo will probably do NOTHING
I noticed this when I opened the eShop to buy Zero Mission, lol.
Yup I just bought and played through Zero Mission for the first time and loved it. Just bought Samus Returns (which was a nightmare to find in the UK) for 3DS too!
I'm more happy with the Amazon and GameStop results since there's like 10 people owning a Wii U.
Update: 9 people, one just got hit by a blimp.
So, all these people waited until the announcement of a new game to FINALLY buy the old games? And they wonder why it took so long for Nintendo to make a new game in the series. We've been telling you people to play Zero Mission and Fusion for YEARS, even Samus Returns deserves your money, but y'all only care when everyone else told you to care. Typical.
I already had them but my friend is currently borrowing my Wii U and preventing me from doing a Metroid binge
Already gone through zero mission and fusion on my GBA SP 😁 currently going through Samus returns. Super Metroid is next! Will probably do them all again after too cause they’re all just so damn good!! 😁
a lot of salt in these comments. that being said, I wish Nintendo would re-release these older Metroid games for Switch
Exciting news but, that could be 5 sales of Zero Mission and 4 of Fusion
It should've happened on Switch, but since Samus Returns is not there yet, and there are no signs of a Virtual Console or the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance titles coming to the NSO, people has to go to older hardwares... Oh well, Nintendo being Nintendo.
I'm sorry for Nintendo, but except Samus Returns, the rest of them I'm playing them in an emulator. I'm not going to pay again for those games, unless they're on Switch.
@K1LLEGAL good to hear you were enjoying it!
I hope more and more people follow your example of trying it out. It’s an awesome series!
I've gone all in, I even bought a refurbished Gameboy SP to play my old zero mission game and I have bought a copy of fusion to roll with the gba vibes. Not sure how I will play 2/3 are they on SNES online on Switch?
Really tempted to buy a 3ds to get samus returns as i completely missed it when it came out but thats alot of money atm...
@fafonio I bet F-Zero would do very well on Switch. People are talking, and we WANT a new F-Zero as much as we wanted a new Metroid.
Golden Sun would also do pretty well, I'm sure. But Camelot is about to release a new game, so... perhaps a remake of the first two?
That's because of me, I guess. I bought Zero Mission and Fusion after reading the article about the Metroid series here at Nintendolife. Now I have the complete series (on different platforms), despite the fact that I have only played the NES game on 3DS virtual console - and I really hated it. But I'm ready to give the Metroid series another chance by starting with Zero Mission which seems to be the definitive edition of the first game.
Let's see, just got my GBA repaired a few weeks ago (busted R button) so I think a replay of Fusion and Zero Mission are in order. Replayed Samus Returns just a couple months ago, and Super Metroid is already an annual tradition for me. I still think the original Metroid is a lot of fun too, it's the first game I ever bought with my own money, so nostalgia is at play here for sure, but it's still enjoyable for me despite its flaws. Having it on the NES app is pretty convenient, especially being able to rewind when falling into an inescapable lava pit, sure beats farming for health drops.
Bought those on my Wii U years ago. Heck i still have my GBA carts. Since the announcement I've gone Metroid crazy! I'm currently doing a run of the entire series. All except the spinoffs. I will probably go through the prime games too but i was kinda hoping the trilogy would be on switch at some point before Prime 4 releases. It has to right? It just makes sense.
WiiU is booming!
@Chamver LOL, your mindset is very 'redpilled' 🤣🤣. But you're absolutely right, its great to see interest spiking up but it's contradicting at the same time.
Confirm I bought Fusion on the Wii U VC as I'm planning to do a full series replay and didn't feel like busting out the GBA cart. Already had Zero Mission and the others on my Wii U though.
I don't care what anyone says. I still had alot of good times with my Wii U and hey it's got Virtual console and you get to keep the games and play them without being connected to the internet. Switch online just isn't the same. It's a rental service. Basically netflix for games and that just sucks.
I still have my GBA and those games, among many more. I thought about playing Metroid Fusion again, but, I'm a huge Advance Wars fan, so, was super excited to see anything Advance Wars related. So, I pulled out my 3DS and started playing Dual Strike and Days of Ruin on it, again. I have Advance Wars 1 & 2 on the Wii U already, as well as the GBA originals. But I might play Metroid Fusion again soon too.
Cmon Nintendo, make Fusion and Zero Mission playable on Switch.
It's nigh on impossible to find a physical copy of either Zero Mission or Fusion for a reasonable price. CEX sold out of physical copies online, same goes for Samus Returns.
Fortunately, i've got my Fusion cart somewhere in a drawer. And have Samus Returns digitally on my 3DS, now just need to either find a cart of Zero Mission or get a digital copy via WiiU
If anything, this should be a clear indication that older titles are still in demand. Bring more past titles to Switch Nintendo, please.
Im glad ive kept my wiiu, have all metroid games on there.
Good thing nintendo is releasing a new metroid, but just cant help feel that it looks a little bland, a little too robotic & industrial.
Suppose im used to the more organic look from super metroid, prime and zero mission
@TruthisRare Fusion and Other M were also like this. We have only seen the first stage, later on the environments will change and be more diverse for sure.
I know I have Zero Mission, Super Metroid and the Prime Trilogy on my Wii U; not sure if I bought Fusion. Still I better check as it’s been a while since I worked on buying through my Wii U VC wishlist.
Also got to look into replaying Samus Returns on the 3DS.
@the_beaver
True. But even other m looked a little more detailed in its environments, anyways, we shall see.
Topping the Wii U Virtual Console chart in 2021 probably only requires dozens of copies to be sold.
With that being said, it's good to see some renewed commercial interest in Metroid.
Shame you can't use your Credit Card on the Wii U now (well in Europe anyway). You have to pay eShop Vouchers instead, which is a pain.
I'm currently going through Advance Wars 1 on the Wii U. Getting ready for the reboot.
Yup I've been thinking of topping up the wallet and buying those VC games. There's a nice selection on there. I never played Tactics Advance..
@Chamver "So, all these people waited until the announcement of a new game to FINALLY buy the old games?" I suspect a lot of people, like me, are re-buying the games having previously owned them. I no longer have a GBA.
But it would be lovely to be able to get these on Switch. A proper VC store has been my most wanted feature for Switch since release. It's such a great platform for playing older titles.
Man, I forgot we have Zero Mission and Fusion available on Wii U via VC! Damn, I left my Wii U back in Brazil when moving to France, I hope we get GBA games on Switch hahahahaha
If you have the 3DS Ambassador program you have Fusion. I will be picking up Samus Returns on the 3DS. That one slipped through my radar. So now 2D Metroid is a thing? There is a whole genre named after it.” Metrodvania”. There was one Metroid I never beat I think it was Zero Mission. There was this boss that made me throw my GBA and I never played it again. I was wondering if maybe you guys could do a timeline on the Metroid series. I do own most of them. It would be a cool article/video. It would also get us prepared for this hype train that I’m about to ride.
fans are showing nintendo they want metroid games. now fans BUY METROID DREAD!!!! keep showing the love and lets hope MP4 will be shown soon.
It's the Wii U, it can't need to sell more than a few dozen to top the charts.
I'm partially guilty for this
I'm not expecting 10+ million for Metroid Dread or even 5 million but I think 3 million sales should be doable
Ashame people weren't spending like this when the Wii U needed it....
I won't lie, I've been considering buying Zero Mission. Metroid is a series that I really want to like but every game I've played has failed to keep my attention. From what I've read, Zero Mission is very beginner friendly and regarded as a good starting point. But people also say Super Metroid is a great starting point, too, and I fell off that game hard.
@Chamver Well, no. Let's say I wanted to play Fusion right now (and I do intend playing some again before Dread). Do I wipe off the dust of my old GBA that's only working half the time, or do I just buy a new copy on the Wii U eShop, which I can play off-screen and on the TV. Additionally, the image quality is way better compared to that old GBA screen. There are plenty of reasons to buy it again for a few bucks on the Wii U if you want to play through those games again.
Dusted off the N3DSXL for a repeat burn through Samus Returns, and what a complete joy it is. 3D is excellent throughout too. If I can get away with it, I might set up the Wii U for a go Prime Trilogy, assuming my Wii controllers actually still work.
I am incredibly excited by Dread's arrival. Moreso than a man in his forties should be, if I'm honest.
@Orangezap89 How many active users are still buying stuff on the eShop regularly? I can't be many, so it wouldn't take much to top the best sellers either.
Yep, I dusted off the Wii U to grab zero mission from the eshop, and was also amazed at how many titles are sitting there in the VC. If only the VC was brought to Switch ... I just don't get why they are not doing it. Literally leaving money on the table.
Already had both
@gwyntendo My theory is Nintendo are intentionally leaving the lower end market open to 3rd parties and indies on Switch. They don't want to dominate both premium and low end with 1st party titles and lose 3rd party support.
It'll lose Nintendo a bit of money short term but if it makes Nintendo the definitive platform for indies and smaller devs it'll pay off in the long run.
I bought Samus Returns on the 3DS eShop over the weekend. Holy crap it's awesome!
Went back to play some Zero Mission and Fusion on our WiiU, & Super Metroid on Switch, as well. Fun showing these games to my daughter
Cool... But these should be in the switch already.
@Loon_Call they have to remake the games for wider release now.
the VC is over and done with - it's sad, but time to move on.
I'm playing fusion on my GBAsp. Would have got it on my 3ds or Switch but it is not for sale. I skipped the Wii U.
And lo and behold, it's the 2 mainline titles that are NOT on Switch. You don't see Super Metroid there or the original NES Metroid. Would be curious to see if Metroid Samus Returns jumped up on the 3DS eShop, or the Game Boy original.
I was already in the middle of a Samus Returns play through when Dread was announced. So I’ve been going through the rest since. Zero Mission, Super and I’m currently on Fusion. One of my very favourite series
@Dr_Lugae I think you might be onto their strategy indeed, sounds plausible!
I bought a used Wii U a couple months back exactly for this reason. I haven’t played the GBA metroid games yet and never finished the two Prime games I had played a bit past systems and wanted to play all of them eventually. The Wii U was the best way to get them. I also wanted to play some other GBA games whose cartridges are well over original MSRP on eBay.
I haven’t played them yet but a couple weeks before the Metroid Dread announcement I started Samus Returns on 3DS. I think to mix it up I will play Wind Waker on the Wii U next and then pick another Metroid game.
Dread will be the pinnacle for now and be used as encouragement to buy the earlier games which I believe will become available on Switch.
It’s great to see Metroid getting some love from a wider audience 💕 It really is one of Nintendo’s best franchises.
@RadioShadow unless you have the same account registered on a Switch. Add the funds on your Switch eshop account and they will appear on your Wii U eshop account too. That’s how I do it to get around the fact you can’t use cards on the Wii U/3DS anymore.
Made an account just to post that I'm one of them. Besides being pissed off that I had to rebuy everything (cause Nintendo SUCKS with Online Infrastructure) I actually ordered a Wii U and Wiimote/Nunchuck DAYS before that E3 Direct... Hell the Wii U showed up ON THE DAY just after Dread was revealed 😂 was so bloody happy, have since re-bought ALL the available Metroid Games on it (it's my "Metroid Machine" after all 👍) and I even went ahead and picked up Super Mario Galaxy 2 this afternoon cause SOMEBODY left it out of a Collection it would have been great in on Switch 😒
Wow, the Wii U actually being used for what it's best at? About damn time!
I forgot the Wii U eshop even had these GBA Metroid titles! I bought Metroid Prime Trilogy digitally on there years ago and considered picking up Fusion and Zero Mission, but never invested. My Wii U is still hooked up, so maybe now is the time...
With Dread coming, I’m more motivated to go back and play Metroid 1 and Super and now maybe finally these GBA games. Is that so wrong and typical, @Chamver?
If you want Metroid fandom to grow, maybe you should lose the self-righteous, victimized attitude, enjoy the increased hype, and just encourage people to play.
@TheBigK
Not sure which other games you’ve played, but I’ve had the same issue with Super Metroid. It was my introduction to the genre in the late 90s (didn’t play it when it was new even though I had an SNES), I really enjoyed it but never finished it. I started again in 2018 on the 3DS when I got back into gaming and again didn’t finish it. I think that time I stopped pretty early and switched to Ocarina Of Time 3D. I need to try it again at some point.
I feel like SNES games still didn’t respect your time as much a modern games do for things like hinting at what to do next and letting you get back to where you were quickly after game overs. I honestly had similar trouble with A Link To The Past when I played it I 2018. I did eventually go back to it and finish it. I found it annoying that I couldn’t farm hearts easily in dungeons if I was low on health. I also didn’t probably trust the game enough when it restarts you at the beginning of a dungeon and used save states maybe more than I needed to. The 2D combat was tough for me to get used to. I loved A Link Between Worlds though and even the GBC version of Link’s Awakening (played pretty much without save states).
In Super Metroid I was having trouble knowing where to go next 2-3 bosses into the game. I didn’t have this problem in Hollow Knight and am not having it in Samus Returns. I would be curious to revisit Super Metroid at some point to see if I still have this problem now that I have played the genre a bit more.
The other thing I forgot about this era (until an NL article talked about it) was reading the manual prior to playing games. That may have helped me with the GBC Link’s Awakening, because I did read a PDF of the old manual first.
Cool cool. Seems like this article might have caused a few more sells.
I don’t think we have to wait a long time for a Metroid dread sequel 💰
@Friendly I have played Metroid, Super, Fusion, Prime and Echoes and realised I had never finished a single one.
So decided to start from the beginning. After Samus Returns i’ll try and go through Super and the I have Fusion as a 3DS ambassador. And then all set for Dread really! I love Metroidvanias but realised I kinda of erred on the side of Vania rather than Metroid.
@K1LLEGAL I always had this issue with Metroidvania games... Never got into Hollow Knight and while I enjoyed Metroid I never finished a 2D game. But after Bloodstained I got back into the genre and slowly getting through them all (2D Metroid games) and fallen in love!! I think it just takes a certain click in your brain to occur and once it does everything falls in place for this genre.
So what’s the timeline anyway? It’s been so long since I’ve played these games and that Fusion kind of pissed me off.
Metroid
Super Metroid
The gameboy one
Fusion
Zero
Returns. I’m confused
@River3636 Method/Zero Mission > Prime Games > Metroid II/Samus Returns > Super Metroid > Other M > Fusion > Dread.
That is the timeline and I recommend playing the remakes of Metroid and Metroid II rather than the originals. Zero Mission and Samus Returns add some juicy new story beats that I bet will be important for Dread.
I’m one of these people, bought zero mission the other day and loving it so far.
Think of the easy money they could make selling virtual console games on switch… Pretty much the only reason to play Wii U.
Man I wish the WiiU virtual console was available for Switch. I’d love to try out the older Metroid games. For now, all I’ve got is Metroid on the NES online and Super Metroid on the SNES online.
@River3636 @wexter exactly what wexter says. That’s the timeline. But I’ve played through the 2D games first:
And afterwards played the prime games (prime 1, 2 on gamecube, prime hunters on DS, prime 3 on wii). Just know that they canonically fall in between metroid and metroid: return of samus.
Not sure under which category other M and federation force fall to be honest...?
@Wexter Thank you. . So Zero’s the first one a remake. I think that one was way hard and then it’s Samus Returns for 3DS. I also own a rom from the DS is that a prime a gam?. I own all the other Primes on the WiiU, that is why I’m asking.
@Friendly COOL. You answered my questioned.
@thiz "Meanwhile hardcopys go for 70-150 Euros." The decline in physical retailers selling previous gen systems has been DEVASTATING. Just a couple years ago, DS, 3DS, GBA, and Wii content could be had cheap at places Gamestop (it kept me coming in). Now that they've decided to be current gen exclusive (for some asinine reason), the online option is eBay where collectors hoarde the these things.
@Friendly @River3636 basically what Friendly said. My only cavite is you really don't need to play Other M or Federation Force. Other M takes place between Super and Fusion and all it really explains is Samus' relationship with Adam and Fusion does that well enough on its own. And Federation Force is a Cooperative shooter and not a traditional Metroid game.
Have fun and yeah some of the games can be hard so don't feel shamed for referencing a guide your first time through Zero Mission.
EDIT: on a sidenote I don't think Federation Force is a bad game it's actually quiet good! I think it got way too much ***** because we had not gotten a new standard Metroid in a bit. But now that we have Samus Returns and Dread (with Prime 4 on the way) I think it's worth a second look. Though the reason I don't recommend it is because it's not a traditional Metroid game so your enjoyment will very.
@Loon_Call God I miss the virtual console.
And for the record, I never once called for its demise, unlike so many writers and so-called "fans". It was, is, and always will be, a brilliant concept.
@River3636 the timeline is as follows, not counting the Prime games:
1. Metroid (NES) / Zero Mission (GBA)
2. Metroid 2 Return of Samus (GB) / Samus Returns (3DS)
3. Super Metroid (SNES) presented as Metroid 3
4. Metroid Other M (Wii)
5. Metroid Fusion (GBA) presented as Metroid 4
6. Metroid Dread (Switch) presented as Metroid 5
@EVIL-C I like NSO as a concept better because you can try more retro games without needing to buy every title. Especially when you've bought DKC or Super Mario World multiple times in the last 10 years. But I think VC was brilliant and added a lot to owning a Nintendo system.
I do think NSO needs GBA and N64 catalogues added to make it more robust! But I do quiet like the concept of loading up your favorite NES and SNES games and you can download them to your system to play on the go. But, I think we appreciate VC more is because it had more options. I think with Fire Emblem (NES) Nintendo was dabbling with the idea of being back VC in some way seperate from NSO.
Imagine how many more games they would sell if Metroid was in the Switch!
After Link's Awakening sold well even though it's a handheld remake for $60 the greed gloves are off. And basically Nintendo knows if they keep back the catalog they can sell us those games again for $60 each not $10.
@Wexter Why not have both? A larger library, plus the option to keep titles you like. It doesn't have to be one or the other, they could combine the Virtual Console with the NSO concept.
@Jimez The prices will go back down once all the fan boys stop going insane for the new release. Been collecting vintage games for 15 years, and you always see prices spike when a new release for a series comes out. then they go back down when the sellers realize that barely anybody will pay $100+ for Metroid Zero Misson or Metroid Fusion.
I have most of them originally in some form or another, but I did order an RG351m emulator handheld to replay all of them on one handheld (and the THPS games and the Advance Wars games, all coming to Switch soon, and of course other games as well), and not have to store all my other systems that are now stored at my mother's house inside my wooden wolves' nest here in the forest.
Basically, I just look for the best next advancement of a "game boy" ever, as I grew up with them, and without a tv.
@Shambo I’ve had an RG351V (same machine, different form factor) and it plays up to PS1 flawlessly. It will even play most MAME arcade games, which is fascinating. N64 emulation is ok, but everything else is phenomenal. If you got it to emulate old Metroid games, you’ll be in for a treat! I recommend changing to a custom firmware though, as out of the box the firmware is pretty bad. 351ELEC is easy to install in a few minutes, and runs much better. Make sure you have good Sandisk memory cards or you will run into technical issues, though!
@zander_dale 3 (SM) is on Snes online. 1 (original NES Metroid) is on Nes Online.
2 is the game Boy one, not available online, but if you're getting Samus Returns on the 3ds (it is great!!!), which is a remake of Metroid 2, you won't need to play the Game Boy one
I actually play the Wii U all the time still. It and the PS3 are the best place to have digital retro collections. Actually picked up Mighty Final Fight for $5 the other day after Nintendo Life’s NES video. I love playing original consoles, but sometimes that’s too expensive. Wii U did so many things right. Unfortunately, marketing what it was was not one of those things. Shame because it’s a great system.
@BloodNinja Yup, did a lot of online "research" before picking one, and they all say custom firmware and get a more reliable sd card, so I'm prepared ^^ I was doubting to get the V, for the screen, but everything else about the M seemed more like what I'd want out of a "next" game boy. I also got a Retroid Pocket 2, but it's a pain to work with (and it's bricked at the moment my laptop crashed while flashing a firmware upgrade onto it, and I'm currently waiting for some tools to hopefully unbrick it...). I love the actual system though, it feels great, but haven't yet gotten it to a point where it's running stable. Maybe I'm spoiled by Nintendo's stability updates
So at about €100, the price at which I was able to get a new one, the RG351m seemed like a reliable system to play on while tinkering with the RP2, where everything i get out of it now is better than it's current state...
Do you have experience with the different OS, and how they run compared to each other?
@John_Deacon I re-read the "metroids to play before dread" to refresh my brain, thanks for this! I have vivid memories of playing 2 on my mates original gameboy, loved that game!! 3DS here i come... (again, why oh why did I sell my old 3ds!!>!?!?)
SNES online it is for 3!
@Shambo I tried all the available OSes and for my purposes I stuck with 351ELEC because I found the other ones to have annoying quirks/difficulty running things. ArkOS is popular but I couldn’t install it, not sure why. The V should have the same screen as the M, a 4/3 ratio. Or does the M have a 16/9 screen?
@BloodNinja 351ELEC it will be then, PIRATE APPROVED!
@Shambo LOL indeed!
@EVIL-C that is my point! I like NSO more, but would be okay with VC in some capacity as well. I just think Nintendo shelved VC because of all the complaints about "rebuying games every gen." even though the Wii U upgrade cost was what a dollar? But I would not mind having both.
@Dr_Lugae yeah you're probably onto something there mate!
Finally(!), got a Switch Lite this week. Opened up the shop and searched “metroid”. Imagine my surprise when I found… NOTHING?! What is Nintendo smoking?! How are there ZERO Metroid games in the Switch shop. Sometimes Nintendo’s business decisions are beyond comprehension…
Thanks for the reminder, I still need to get Zero Mission and Prime Trilogy (despite owning the individual games on the compilation and the compilation itself physically)
Lol I definitely contributed to this. I’m gonna try to get through Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super Metroid (on SNES Classic), and Fusion before October! As a newbie to the series I’m stoked and having a blast so far.
I already had every physical games I need of the series so this doesn't affect me as much. I just wish Nintendo would release the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch so I don't have to rely on the Wii version. I would play it on my Wii U but my Wii U no longer reads disc so that's a bummer.
I’m totally part of this crowd! Bought Zero Mission and Fusion on the Wii U, and realized just how awesome the gamepad is for GBA games. Pixel perfect, screen smoothing, and save states are all baked in, and the gamepad feels super comfy in adult hands. I plugged in my old Wii U about 15 feet from my bed and don’t even have it attached to a TV, its only purpose is to feed my new GBA XL.
I’m actually kind of dreading playing Samus returns on my 3DS now because that smaller system gives me hand cramps. 😅
I picked up both GBA Metroid games, as well as a discounted Metroid Prime Trilogy, on the Wii U eShop ages ago. I had no (reasonably priced) way to experience the games otherwise. All are worth it, and I'm happy they're receiving more attention!
All this talk about the Metroid Dread release has me wanting to jump on the 2D Metroid replay wagon as well. At least with the best version of each entry!
Hey Nintendo why don’t you announce Mother 3, then Earthbound and Earthbound Beginning on virtual console will experience a big boost in sales.
we need return of samus and fusion either on the switch or a game and watch sytem
this is why I keep my Wii U plugged in.
@Wexter Oh okay, so we basically agree. Cool. 🙂👍 I like the games on demand part of NSO too, but it and VC could easily co-exist.
NIZE!
Let's do this.
I picked up Fusion! The announcement of Dread inspired me to FINALLY finish Super Metroid and get going. It was the last game I needed to complete my collection too
@Shambo — here's a good guide, with video and links, for setting up that RG351M: https://retrogamecorps.com/rg351/
No, cause I already own them all.
Dread has made me start replaying them though. Gone through Super, Zero Mission and II so far, starting Fusion now. Then it's onto the Prime games.
@Loon_Call What makes you think they don't know that? They are not idiots. They know it. That's why they are using those games as an incentive for their service.
They used them to sell Wii to fans and older gamers
They used on Wii U to attract fans and wii owners.
I am amazed how people don't realize that after all these years.
@DK-Fan Then why aren't they on switch? Obviously there are people that want to play the GBA Metroid games in preparation for dread.
For anyone wanting to play all the games, here's the timeline:
Metroid / Metroid Zero Mission
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime Hunters
Metroid Prime 2
Metroid Prime 3
Metroid Prime Federation Force
Metroid Prime 4 (sobs)
Metroid II The Return of Samus / Metroid Samus Returns
Super Metroid
Metroid Other M
Metroid Fusion
“All 12 people still playing the WiiU bought Metroid games this week.”
In 2021, that’s almost literally all it would take for a game to top the WiiU eshop charts.
Of course the focus is on the Wii U. That's the most recent place you can still get them. Nintendo needs to stop doing dirty by their back catalog.
@ianl579 You can buy an EZ Flash Omega if you're okay doing roms.
I have FUSION on 3DS and PRIME TRILOGY already. Went ahead and picked up ZERO MISSION and have been rocking it on the GamePad!
@Chamver no it’s mostl people that have played the games wanting to play them again before the new one comes out. Me I already own them all physically and digitally and play them at least once ever year or two.
Metroid Dread did for sure pump me up as well. Hope it can live up to the hype in my head hehe.
@Loon_Call
I so miss the VC It would have been so so perfect for the Switch. Sad it didn't get the Wii U treatment. I also think they could have kept more of the Mii focus, was kinda cool and original but got mostly scrapped due to the obscurity of the Wii U I bet.
Already own them, but glad Metroid gets a little more attention. One of IPs that defined Nintendo for me when i was growing up.
@ohbalto Thanks! Judging by the name, I think that's the same one I've been watching on youtube on the matter, seems reliable. Hadn't actually visited the site itself yet so thanks again! Now the waiting game until the system arrives...
It's great to see Metroid getting some more attention. I already have Fusion, Zero Mission and Prime Trilogy on the wii u.
I decided to finally play through Metroid 1-4 in order (Zero Mission, AM2R, Super and Fusion).
I had downloaded AM2R years ago but for some reason never got around to playing it. To anyone who hasn't played it, it's also definitely worth checking out. You can tell how much passion the developers have for the Metroid series. It's really well done.
I will replay Samus Returns at some point also before Dread comes out. Maybe Other M and Prime Trilogy too. I found Prime 2 kind of stressful and I don't remember too much about 3.
