@Shadow0blivion I think you need to learn what an opinion is. What you're trying to say, that most people who play Animal Crossing have disorganized lives in real life, is an objective statement not a subjective one. And it's a statement based on zero evidence. This isn't an "opinion", it's just a baseless assumption. I also find it ironic that you're calling everyone responding to you a kid, while you're the one insulting a group of people for playing a specific video game. As for your second point, at the end of the day all video games can be considered a "waste of time", so I don't really get what makes Animal Crossing different in that regard.
They're really going all out with the advertising for this game. I usually hardly ever see Nintendo ads, but I've seen so many ads on TV and online for Animal Crossing.
Shadows of Valentia 100%. That game was criminally underplayed compared to Awakening and Fates, but it has a great cohesive story with wonderful presentation. The cast of characters is pretty great, and most of them don't feel like they're just cast aside once they join your party like in some other FE games. The voice acting is alao pretty top notch.
@JayJ You know, it's possible people actually likes those games and aren't just "rabid fanboys". Everybody enjoys different things, and just because a majority of people like something that you don't it doesn't make them incorrect.
Also, you seem to be just as bad as these "rabid fanboys" you're criticizing. Giving so many games a 1/10 clearly just to bring down their average score is just as bad, if not worse, as being a fanboy giving a game a 10/10 to increase the score. You're allowed to dislike the games, but certainly they still have some objective qualities that deserve a couple of points.
@BenAV Glad someone else is showing AI: The Somnium Files some love, I feel like that game was mostly forgotten by a lot of people but I think people should give it a shot if they enjoyed the storytelling of the Zero Escape series.
For me, my top 5 are probably 1. Shovel Knight: King of Cards 2. Dragon Quest XI S 3. Zelda: Link's Awakening 4. AI: The Somnium Files 5. Dragon Quest Builders 2
Honorable mentions to Tales of Vesperia: Dinfinitive Edition, A Hat in Time, and Luigi's Mansion 3. Overall this year wasn't the strongest for first party releases in my opinion, but there were still some very solid third party games.
@PBandSmelly I don't think that's necessarily an unpopular opinion. I haven't seen anyone argue that Dragalia has a good story. I play the game quite a bit, and yet I skip every bit of dialogue I can. I don't play it for the story, I play it for the fun gameplay. I haven't found another mobile game that I enjoy the gameplay as much, plus it's one of the few freemium mobile games that doesn't punish you for being FTP.
@Liam_Doolan Just to let you know, the information in the article is wrong. The article says says "the event is currently underway and will run until the 28th of November" but the event doesn't start until the 28th of November. It ends December 15th.
Also, in case anyone is curious, there is no "gacha" element to this event. Everything can be obtained just from playing the game. Plus Cygames always makes it so all of the most important rewards (anything limited to the event) can be obtained by new players pretty easily.
@NESlover85 As someone who grew up starting with gen 1, I'm getting sick of the nostalgia blindness. Not to say gen 1 can't be your favourite game, but all the people shutting down the newer Pokemon games saying "Gen 1 is the best, the new games/pokemon suck" are pretty annoying. The designs of the original 151 aren't the holy grail people make them out to be.
@thesilverbrick Dragalia Lost is probably the most generous free to play gacha games I've played. They give out so much wyrmite (the summoning resource) you can easily get by without spending a single penny. Not only get by, but likely be able to get most units in the game.
Dragalia Lost has seriously improved a lot over the past year. Even if you tried it out in the past and didn't like it, I'd urge you to give it a second shot, and this is the perfect time to do it with all of the freebies during the event.
A little sad none of the Gamecube Harvest Moon games made it, A Wonderful Life has always been one of my top Gamecube games.
Very happy both Baten Kaitos games made the list, though! I personally preferred Origins but the first game was wondeful too. I really hope the seires gets a reboot at some point in the future.
I'm surprised neither of the DS Zelda games made it. They're probably my least favourite Zelda games, but they weren't terrible.
A few of my favourites that are missing are Rune Factory 3, Suikoden:Tierkreis, Contact, and Magical Starsign. All of the games on this list are great, though!
@nessisonett Amiibo quality has gotten much better in recent years. The only ones that look bad are some of the original Smash Bros ones, like Link and Marth. Have you seen some of the more recent ones recently? Ice Climbers, Piranha Plant, and the recent Zelda figures all look wonderful.
I really don't understand why you'd find it hard to believe that people find amiibo more attractive. They're at least accurate to the character's appearance.
@The-Chosen-one The game is only out in a few countries right now. I'm still waiting for it to come to Canada, but I know it's also not out in Europe. You could download an apk on potentially sketchy websites if you really want to play it before the official release in your country.
Yes, please! Baten Kaitos and Origins were some of my favourite GameCube games. I think to generate more interest they could release the first 2 games as an HD remaster on the Switch, but I hope they get enough support. Origins especially was amazing.
This DLC is really top notch. I was a little hesitant at first since I played the base game to death and was worried it would just be more of the same, but it almost feels like an entirely new game. I understand why they made a separate physical release for it. New locations to explore, the combat has changed (which in my opinion is even better), and the side quests feel like they have more meaning.
Working on 100% completing it now with just 2 more people to add to my community.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed but the synopsis they gave of the game wasn't exactly enticing. Set in a peaceful village until one day when monsters emerged. Something that totally hasn't been done a thousand times before. I'll definitely keep an eye on it though because it's nice to see a new IP.
Kairosoft games are actually really fun for mobile games. I've played about a dozen of them and they're all very addicting, plus no annoying micro transactions (at least for most of them).
Some of my favourites are Mega Mall Story, Pocket Academy, Hot Spring Story, Venture Towns, and Dungeon Village. Game Dev Story seems to be the most popular game they've released but honestly I think it's one of the weaker games in their lineup. I'd recommend Kairosoft games to anyone who likes simulation games, as long as they're priced appropriately.
@Majora101 While I personally don't care much if Geno gets added or not, but he has a massive cult following and I've seen him requested more for Smash than Isaac. Sakrai definitely recognizes his popularity, hence the Mii costume from Smash 4. It definitely wouldn't be a sad day if he was added.
As for Chibi Robo, If you look at all of Nintendo's owned video game series you'll noticed that there aren't that many that haven't been represented in Smash, and even fewer if you narrow it down to games with distinct main characters that could be added to Smash. It basically boils down to The Legend of Starfy, Dillon's Rolling Western, Rhythm Heaven, Chibi Robo, and Golden Sun. While Chibi Robo may not have sold as well as Golden Sun, it does have some relevancy due to the recently released Zip Lash. Sakurai also tends to ignore popularity and add characters that he believes have interesting movesets, which I can see happening with Chibi Robo.
I know the chances aren't super high but I'm still rooting for Chibi Robo to be added at some point in the future. I know he's not super popular but he would be such a unique fighter with an easy moveset to come up with. It's also one of Nintendo's few franchises that's still not represented, especially considering it has 5 games.
Isaac from Golden Sun would be nice too and while his Djinn attacks would set him apart from other swordfighters I feel like he wouldn't be as unique of a fighter as Chibi Robo.
Probably my favourite game on the DS. The combat pretty much revolved around the dual screens and the touch screen though, so I'm not sure how well the game will play while docked. Hopefully they make the combat well suited for the Switch so newcomers to the game will get the full experience.
@Agramonte The main reason why it has horrible reviews is because it's incredibly glitchy. I played through it on PS4 and had it crash multiple times. Overall it's still a fun game and if they fix the bugs on the switch version then it could be a great game to buy if you like the show and Paper Mario.
Personally I'd like to see more video reviews, and not just necessarily from Alex if that's possible. I know usually other people write the reviews and he's just reading them, but I would enjoy it more if the reviewer was the one recording the audio to make it a more personable experience. Plus it's nice to have a bit of variety and we get to be more exposed to the rest of the NintendoLife staff.
One of the things I really like about this site is when staff members jump into the conversation in the comments. Makes the community on this site feel more connected.
A few things I'd like to see on the forums are a "preview post" just to make sure images or tags are showing up properly before you post and have to quickly edit afterwards, notifications for people quoting you (not just @ you), and a heart button similar to article comment sections so you get a sense of how many people agree with you.
I'd also like to point out that when I come on this site I exclusively look at the timeline rather than the home page since I find it's easy to miss news and articles on the homepage.
I use the SteelSeries Siberia 800 for both the Switch and my PC. It's pretty pricey but I love it. I find with most headsets it gets uncomfortable to wear after a while but I can wear this for hours nonstop. My ears never get too hot too. The quality of the sound is nice as well, with the transmitter box allowing you to easily modify the sound based on what you're doing.
I'd say the most handy feature is having the 2 batteries it comes with. You can put one to charge in the transmitter while using one in the headset then just swap them out when the battery runs low.
The transmitter can be a bit of a pain to carry around and set up if you're often changing locations, but if you have a setup that stays in the same spot it's great! When I'm at home I use wireless with the Switch docked, then on the go I just plug in the aux cord to the headset.
@Danito This is the first time RBWY characters are being represented in a fighting game, so for that all you can really do to get to know the characters is watch the series. Personally I just watched the trailers for the individual characters a few years ago when they were released on YouTube.
If you were to pick one series to try out it should probably be BlazBlue since that has the most characters represented. You can probably pick up one of the old games on Steam for $10 or so. I'd recommend trying Persona 4 Arena Ultimax though as that was my favourite of the 3 fighting games in Cross Tag. You'll need an Xbox 360 or PS3 for that though. If you reaoly want to get to know the characters from Persona you should play Persona 4 and maybe Persona 3 since a few of those characters are in the game too.
@shonenjump86 Yes, 20 of the characters are DLC. To be honest though it's not as bad as some people are making it out to be. The game itself is priced cheaper than a typical Switch game and the DLC season pass isn't very expensive. At the end of the day you're just paying about the same price as a regular Switch game.
From the title I was worried for a second the release date of the Switch version got delayed for North America. Have to keep reminding myself this is a European site.
This looks great! I've never played The Legend of Legacy, should I play that one before this game or is this just a more improved experience with no connection to the former game?
I think it's nice to get actual store credit instead of discounts for games I don't care about. That being said, coming from someone who typically only buys physical games it's a bit of a bummer to hear "If you spend $1000 on games you'll get a whole $10 off your next purchase."
If we can use the points to pay for the online service I'll be content.
Played this on PC about a year ago. I never ended up beating it but I'd still recommend it to anyone itching to play a horror game. I liked that it didn't rely too much on jump scares and instead built up a creepy ambiance. It feels a lot like going through a creepy fun-house. It always finds a way to keep things interesting.
I already have it on the Wii U and 3DS as well as all of the DLC for both, so I don't know if I'll be getting it for the Switch too. I'd be more tempted if they added some Breath of the Wild characters and content, like Kass, Sidon, Revali, Daruk, Urbosa, or Mipha.
@Reignmaker They both have pros and cons. Hyrule Warriors definitely has much more unique fighters. With Fire Emblem Warriors each character with the same weapon feels generally the same, unless they're mounted. Hyrule Warriors also has a lot more content packed into it. I do find the battles in Fire Emblem Warriors much more engaging though. It's more strategy dependent. You have to pay attention to weapon advantages and disadvantages and order your units accordingly. Hyrule Warriors is a lot more mindless entertainment.
Glad you collaborated with IHE! I watch a lot of his videos and soon as I heard Illumination was making the Mario movie I instantly thought of him and his hatred towards Minions/Sing.
Sword of Mana still stands as my favourite GBA game. Pretty solid list though, I'm satisfied Golden Sun made the top 5. The battle theme from the original game is amazing.
I don't think it necessarily died due to a lack of players, as I'm sure there's still a handful of people that boot it up sometimes to dress up their Mii. I'm guessing they're having problems making real money off the game. For me at least, it never felt enticing to use real money to buy coins. The daily login bonus and one free play to get a miitomo drop coupon per day made everything easily accessible. All of the good outfits were miitomo drop ones and you could easily look up a video online to see where to drop to get the outfit you want. Something like Fire Emblem Heroes should last much longer.
Played this on Steam about a year ago. It's a nice little peaceful game and has some pretty realistic characters. The beginning was a bit sluggish, and honestly made me feel a bit depressed about life with its melancholy tone, but got interesting towards the end.
Sunshine is still my favourite, but Odyssey definitely takes second place. It's one of the few games I can see myself going back to beat multiple times without getting bored.
All of the games on the list are good but there's a few on there I don't think deserve to be in the top 21. Especially when there's games like Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia, Chibi-Robo, FE: Path of Radiance, Pokemon Colosseum, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, and any of the GameCube Mario Party games.
My personal list probably would have included Baten Kaitos as well but that one's pretty divisive.
I will say I'm still waiting for them to bring back more character specific/unique combat styles. This one is a bit of a step-up from XCX, but I still miss having characters like Melia and Shulk who played completely differently from everyone else.
@Ralek85 I think the developers realized the game got too easy when getting all the XP from quests and discovering locations, so they added in the optional "claim your XP if you want" system to prevent people from getting more overpowered than they want to be.
The quests are basically like any RPG side quests, I usually just accept as many as possible and complete them if I happen to pick up all the materials. I'm hoping there's some more challenging post-game quests or DLC content. I do find the combat is much more fun when you actually try to do combos, even if you don't have to. Frantically switching between blades to perform Fusion Combos can be pretty entertaining.
@Mr_Zurkon It seems cluttered but I find it's all pretty necessary. There's really no need to look at what's happening on the field anyway, all you really need to look at when fighting is the UI. Because of the auto attacks and range of attacks you hardly need to move around at all, mainly just look at when skills become active, what status the enemy is in (Break, Topple, Launch), and what element to use next in a Blade Combo.
@Ralek85 Have you been using the Inns to level up your characters? Personally I find it takes away some of the enjoyment in combat because it makes it too easy to overpower your characters.
The voice lines that annoy my most are probably the human guards. They seem to all have the same 2 voice lines which they repeat over and over without a break in between. When you're fighting multiple guards at once it's pretty much all you here.
In terms of the characters, not much as annoyed me so far. Tora's "meh meh" can be quite loud and obnoxious, and for some reason when Nia shouts "Healing Halo" it gets under my skin, but other than that I haven't had a major problem.
I don't really care much about the game at the moment, mainly because I just finished playing through ALTTP recently, but I find it really entertaining to say "Itlle Dew 2". Every time I see the title I end up saying it a few times.

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - An Accessible And Addictive Masterpiece

Re: Poll: Vote For Your Favourite Fire Emblem Games
Shadows of Valentia 100%. That game was criminally underplayed compared to Awakening and Fates, but it has a great cohesive story with wonderful presentation. The cast of characters is pretty great, and most of them don't feel like they're just cast aside once they join your party like in some other FE games. The voice acting is alao pretty top notch.

2. Dragon Quest XI S
3. Zelda: Link's Awakening
4. AI: The Somnium Files
5. Dragon Quest Builders 2
Honorable mentions to Tales of Vesperia: Dinfinitive Edition, A Hat in Time, and Luigi's Mansion 3. Overall this year wasn't the strongest for first party releases in my opinion, but there were still some very solid third party games.

From the title I was worried for a second the release date of the Switch version got delayed for North America. Have to keep reminding myself this is a European site.
Re: Review: The Alliance Alive (3DS)
This looks great! I've never played The Legend of Legacy, should I play that one before this game or is this just a more improved experience with no connection to the former game?
Re: Soapbox: My Nintendo's Updated Rewards Scheme Is Anything But Rewarding
I think it's nice to get actual store credit instead of discounts for games I don't care about. That being said, coming from someone who typically only buys physical games it's a bit of a bummer to hear "If you spend $1000 on games you'll get a whole $10 off your next purchase."
If we can use the points to pay for the online service I'll be content.
Re: Review: Layers Of Fear: Legacy (Switch eShop)
Played this on PC about a year ago. I never ended up beating it but I'd still recommend it to anyone itching to play a horror game. I liked that it didn't rely too much on jump scares and instead built up a creepy ambiance. It feels a lot like going through a creepy fun-house. It always finds a way to keep things interesting.
Re: Video: Get Hyped For Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition On Switch With This New Trailer
Re: Fire Emblem Warriors' Second DLC Pack Will Be Released Next Week
@Reignmaker They both have pros and cons. Hyrule Warriors definitely has much more unique fighters. With Fire Emblem Warriors each character with the same weapon feels generally the same, unless they're mounted. Hyrule Warriors also has a lot more content packed into it. I do find the battles in Fire Emblem Warriors much more engaging though. It's more strategy dependent. You have to pay attention to weapon advantages and disadvantages and order your units accordingly. Hyrule Warriors is a lot more mindless entertainment.
Re: Soapbox: The Super Mario Movie Might Not Be All That Great
Glad you collaborated with IHE! I watch a lot of his videos and soon as I heard Illumination was making the Mario movie I instantly thought of him and his hatred towards Minions/Sing.
Re: Video: The 26 Best Game Boy Advance Games of All Time
Sword of Mana still stands as my favourite GBA game. Pretty solid list though, I'm satisfied Golden Sun made the top 5. The battle theme from the original game is amazing.
Re: Miitomo Meets Its End On 9th May
I don't think it necessarily died due to a lack of players, as I'm sure there's still a handful of people that boot it up sometimes to dress up their Mii.
Re: The Anthropomorphic Mystery Of Night In The Woods Arrives On Switch This Feb
Played this on Steam about a year ago. It's a nice little peaceful game and has some pretty realistic characters. The beginning was a bit sluggish, and honestly made me feel a bit depressed about life with its melancholy tone, but got interesting towards the end.
Re: Soapbox: Is Super Mario Odyssey the Best Mario Game Ever?
Sunshine is still my favourite, but Odyssey definitely takes second place. It's one of the few games I can see myself going back to beat multiple times without getting bored.
Re: Video: The 21 Best GameCube Games Money Can Buy
All of the games on the list are good but there's a few on there I don't think deserve to be in the top 21. Especially when there's games like Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia, Chibi-Robo, FE: Path of Radiance, Pokemon Colosseum, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, and any of the GameCube Mario Party games.
My personal list probably would have included Baten Kaitos as well but that one's pretty divisive.
Re: Best Buy Has an Exclusive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe SteelBook
To be honest it looks pretty ugly.
Re: Video: Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Combat is More Straightforward Than You Might Think
Re: Video: Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Combat is More Straightforward Than You Might Think
Re: Guide: Breathe Easy, You Can Disable Character Voices in Xenoblade Chronicles 2
@cadaver138 Those 2 phrases will be forever etched into my mind. I wise there was an option to turn off only the guards' voice lines.
Re: Guide: Breathe Easy, You Can Disable Character Voices in Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Re: Ninjara and Min Min Go Head-to-Head in the Next ARMS Party Clash
I really want the Min Min badge but it's going to be tough to drag me away from Xenoblade Cronicles 2.
Re: Review: Ittle Dew 2+ (Switch)
I don't really care much about the game at the moment, mainly because I just finished playing through ALTTP recently, but I find it really entertaining to say "Itlle Dew 2". Every time I see the title I end up saying it a few times.
