Indies from across the industry have been making Nintendo Switch's ever-growing eShop their home since the console launched last March, but one award-winning title has been keeping us waiting for a good 10 months now. Well, the wait is finally over as the charming, brilliant and poignantly melancholy Night In The Woods has been officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch... on 1st February no less!
That really is incredibly soon, and while the quick announcement has caught us off guard we're sure this indie hit is going to fit right at home. It's an adventure game full of anthropomorphic characters to interact with, puzzles to solve and a mystery at the heart of its charming tale. Think Life Is Strange meets a Wes Anderson film and you're probably only just scratching the surface. Better yet, the game will include the game's director's cut style Weird Autumn content (which adds in some more mini-games and sequences to explore).
At the moment, it only appears to be hitting the North American eShop, with a price of $19.99. We've reached out for clarification on a European release date and we'll update you when we know more.
Nintendo Switch is about to add another big indie hit to its roster, but will you be picking it up next month? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below...

I saw this in action at PAX West and I just have to get this
Looks interesting, might check it out. So many games - and I STILL haven't started xc2...
Hard pass, the story isn't that appealing, nor are the characters.
Anyone know what the performance of the Switch version is compared to the PS4 version?
I'll be all over this. Depending if/when UK gets it. Though am pretty booked up Feb thus far with Switch releases.
Too weird and creepy for me
Physical?
Absolutely fabulous news! If I could have handpicked five indies to come to Switch, Night in the Woods would have been one of them.
Oh, this is pleasing! Who doesn't like wistful anthropomorphic animals?
This will be a great curl up with a blanket and hot cocoa game (Which I've been doing with Thimbleweed Park. Handheld mode ftw) I strongly recommend this for anyone needing a break from regular games and is looking for a mellow adventure with a lot of charm that explores some heavy themes. Kinda like sad animal Persona lol
Another game I always wanted to play. Sorry wallet.
Was delighted to see this arrive on Xbox but really glad I didn't download it now!
Looked forward to this for years. Played it almost non stop until I beat it and I can't tell you if I enjoyed it
Most bizarre game I've ever played. A good experience but no idea if I'll ever play it again.
Still not played the new content that came out for it as you do have to redo it all
Such a deep story and kinda existential
@Kalmaro Have you already played it? I thought it was great.
YES!! I love this game so much, I must double dip.
@Kalmaro Both the characters and story are awesome.
Played this on Steam about a year ago. It's a nice little peaceful game and has some pretty realistic characters. The beginning was a bit sluggish, and honestly made me feel a bit depressed about life with its melancholy tone, but got interesting towards the end.
@Indielink I have several friends who have played it to completion and told me about the story and main character whom you're suppose to play as. Nothing about them interest me and I have a hard time getting into a game when I don't like who I'm playing as.
This game is apparently absolutely excellent, and I was going to play it on my PS4, but what with me being a uni now, and my PS4 at home, I've only got a certain amount of time to play the PS4, which I'm dedicating to persona 5 at the moment. The switch is allowing me to play all of my games at university without any monitor or effort whatsoever, and I'm so glad it's giving me that opportunity to play smaller games like this that I otherwise would've missed out on
Nintendo really is gonna need to redesign the eshop. With the number of games we are getting, the recent release section is almost replace every week, not to mention the lack to featured games, or anything like that is a shame still. Lots of quality content that only people like us, who read sites like these - or really determined people who search through the eshops basic interface - will ever hear about.
I've heard good things, but I'm not really a fan of the genre. I might pick it up if it goes on sale.
@KirbyTheVampire It's an indie adventure game. I doubt there's a performance difference.
That top screenshot reminds me strongly of level 2 of Monster in My Pocket. Am I deranged?
Oh, Gosh....
That contents from ESRB, Tho...
Nah....
I love off-kilter games, but had a really hard time getting into this on PS4. It was a bit too linear for my taste.
I’m so glad that all of the indie games I put off are coming to Switch. I’m buying this day one!
@Anti-Matter I just read it. It’s rated T, and has the same content as most games rated T. I don’t see the problem?
@imgrowinglegs
The game was look.... so Dark in my opinion.
I prefer Happy and Colorful themes like Poi : Explorer Edition rather than Edgy & Dark themes like Fe or this game.
Looks mint. My poor aching wallet. There, there, have a lay down, get your breath back...and “smack!” Take that! “Ker POW!” and that! Had enough have ya? Had enough?!
YES! I own on the PC but since day one of the Switch I've been waiting for the Switch version to do another playthrough. So excited.
Ecstatic about this announcement! One of those indies I’ve always wanted to play but never had the hardware.
Now once I can get Fez and Monument Valley all my indie curiosities will be satiated.
I'm glad that I didn't buy it on PC. I want to play this game on the go! It would so awesome if more big hit indies from the last few years would come to the Switch. I'm thinking about Hyper Light Drifter, Undertale, Fez, Bastion, Transistor Mark of the Ninja, Trine Trilogy and many more. Not an indie title but I also want Okami HD on my Switch so badly.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah. Hopefully the redesign comes sooner than later. It is not easy to use now and doesn’t have a recommendation engine or anything
Absolutely loved this game. Would definitely recommend it.
This is one game I have been keeping my eye on since it's perfect for Switch! I've been holding off on purchasing it for PS4, so I will now just wait a couple of weeks for it on Switch!
