Got it. One of my absolute favourite games ever, have the Xenoblade X and 2 collectors editions, and the Xenoblde 2 Pro Controller. How could I say no to something this beautiful (even if I don’t have a vinyl player lol)

Honestly, what is the point behind NA stripping down all of these collector’s editions to only the art books most of the time? Especially when you got a release like this that will sell out its collector’s edition because of the popularity of the original Xenoblade. It’s absolutely maddening to me.

@olekmorawski It's not UK-only, but Europe-only. Somebody shared a link for a French retailer that also offers it. I'm fairly certain other European regions will get it as well.
I wasn't willing to wait for a local retailer to stock it though, as this is one edition I didn't want to miss, so I just ordered it from the UK via a middle-man service. Won't arrive on launch, but at least the Monado keychain is cool.

This is a game you buy a collector set for. I have the Wii version one and the 3DS version one. This is clearly one of the best JRPG is in the past 10 years.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a fair few orders have been made from North America due to the EU version seemingly being the CE with the most swag. True, would much have preferred a CD OST to a frisbee but it does look nice. Could always nail it to the wall as an art piece.

@mesome713 sighs Japan normally also gets this stuff though. It might be as nice but it’s always nicer than the NA one. Astral Chain Special rings a bell. There are very few times that Japan doesn’t, but’s it’s rare. Really rare because a lot of people from the NA import the Japanese one.

Basically the theory doesnt make sense. For instance Pokémon which sells well everywhere don’t tell me it doesnt, got Steelbooks in every country except for the NA countries until about a month before when Target actually announced it. I’m still not even sure Canada got one as it was just Target US only. By then the UK was handing out Steelbook a for digital copies, digital copies. Like what !?! Giving a Steelbook for a digital copy made more sense than a Steelbook in a country that didn’t get them at all or just barely?

As far as I can Nintendo is the only company that does this consistently, and it’s always the NA. I And they make a point of trying to hide it, I mean two separate directs for it? Clearly you didn’t want the poor NA people knowing about a better version. And for the record, I would have bought Astral Chain had they had the collectors in NA. They didn’t, and my piggie bank needed to go for the NISA special edition for Disgaea 4. I figured since there was no rush since it’s the same, but now I’ve got a backlog. I don’t know when I’ll be able to buy it.

Man the UK definitely gets some amazing special editions, here in America we only got an art book

@mousieone Take for instance Fire Emblem Warfare Edition, which sells best in Japan. Japan clearly got the worst version, and NA got the best version.

Then look at Links Awakening which sells best in Japan, NA got the best version again and Japan got only an artbook. Luigi Mansion and Super Mario Maker 2 all got the same. So of all Nintendo developed games in 2019, NA got best version everytime.

As for Pokemon, everyone got the same boring stuff. Game Freak is horrible at special editions. And Astrial Chain, another not developed by Nintendo, sells good in NA also. Platinum does a lot better in NA than anywhere else. That's what these things are for, to make profit and sale copies. If they don't feel it's needed, they don't do it.

Did I just hear Nintendo is producing a vinyl record?! Finally! This gives me hope that they'll produce a vinyl for Astral Chain! 😭

I want it but I have the premium edition of persona 5 royal coming Tuesday and can't really afford spend too much on collectors editions atm. Arg

@mousieone I fixed my reply, was mistaken. But that's just my point, Sales do worst in Europe, so they try to get people to buy them. I've even seen them give free shirts to people to buy the game cause they're so want the sales so bad.

@mesome713 You can defend it all you want, but I don’t see what would hurt them in releasing the other version in the NA. It’s not like it would canibilize your UK sales which are currently being canbilized by those people who find ways to import it. Thus hurting the true sales for that region and skewing the numbers.

The UK got two different sets of steelbooks for Pokémon sword and shield, which as far as I could tell the US only gold double packs. For Sword and Shield not Lets Go. Again I don’t think Canada got them at all. But I admit I could be wrong on that one.

@UndercoverPneuma Yeah the weapon breaking really spoiled at lot of the fun in Breath of the Wild. I still played it though.

I'd prefer a controller myself. I got the original Xenoblade Chronicles Special Edition on Wii and it came with a lovely bright red classic controller.

Really like the keychain but need to know where the updated version is worth double dipping for.

@Arglas_ Couldn't agree more. I got lucky and was able to get the UK version thanks to this comment section, but it's ridiculous that it sold out this fast in the first place. Nintendo keep doing crap like this, not making enough of the product to meet demands (the amiibo shortage situation comes to mind). They need to get their act together.

@Xeno_Emblem I can’t speak for others but for me it’s the music that I want not an artbook that will take up space that I don’t have and will look at once. The soundtrack in these case has several updated scores from the original. Which I’m sure are on this vinyl which would explain why it’s not the entire soundtrack.

@Xeno_Emblem I don't think its people having a "more equals better" mindset, I think it's more so about value for money. The US is getting an inferior special edition for what's probably a similar price to the UK version. They just want to get the most out of their money, and don't understand why Nintendo made different versions of it for the US and UK in the first place.

I'm honestly considering buying the Standard version from ShopTo since it has the keychain and a poster at 35% off. Should I ever want the artbook, I can buy the NA SE later and gift the game itself to a friend.

The biggest reason with things like this selling out instantly is that most places now only charge you on dispatch. If you had to fork out the money when ordering, most people won’t have that money at short notice. Guaranteed in the week leading up release, it’ll start coming back in stock as people cancel pre-orders.

I don't know if you know this but astral chain had like 27000 copies worldwide...when you bought a preorder in store there was like 70% chance of not getting it in the end....that's why when I bought 4 preorders - I got 1 in the end bcs the rest was just canceled by other stores bcs they didn't get enough copies...I'm scared this might be the case with this game too

I'd love a flip-through of the artbook. I'm a real sucker for a great artbook, but I've never bothered buying an actual CE for one before, mostly because those artbooks tend to be "lite" versions at best. Also though, because I prefer digital games and the rest of those CE's is just a waste of space. The last one I bought, if memory serves, was actually the original World of Warcraft

I was going to grab this but then see the vinyl and thought no way. If it was a CD or even on a usb stick like FE:3H was id have got it.dont own a record player and would defenately like to listen to the soundtrack.

This especially sucks because the NA Collectors Edition for XC2 was amazing. Steelbook, artbook and OST CD, all the things I want most in a special edition of a game.

I was hoping for something like a matched set with XC1. This is just... weak.

And they've been doing this regularly lately. I'm still salty about the Link's Awakening Gameboy steelbook.

@ArtiomNLS A lot more people praise XC1 than XC2. Not everyone loves XC2, but those who do tend to really, really love it. The first game is a safer bet overall.

Personally the US collector’s Edition is a money grab to me. Just for the vinyl I would have purchased Europe’s version.
NOA’s collector’s Editions are horrible in comparison to NOE’s. What’s the issue? Does NOA have data saying Americans don’t like the same items as our neighbors across the pond? 🧐😒

No, I wasn't aware there was one to be honest, but yeah, upon checking for a flip-through just now, I gotta say it looks quite good. My only gripes would be that it is still in Japanese without any translated notes, which is a shame, and that it is rather light on environmental art, which personally tends to be my favourite part with any artbook.

Still, really nice for a CE pack-in and certainly much better than I would have expected. Might have to pick it up 2nd hand at some point.

Just got home with the eu collector’s set. Last time was the wii version with the outrageously slick red controller, have to admit this feels special. Have to put opening the thing on hold til the kids go to bed though. Anticipation!!!!
