Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Pre-Orders Are Already Breaking Records In Japan

I'm pretty sure Pokemon fans play other games too. You know who really has low standards in gaming? People who play nothing but PC and playstation or xbox and think that Skyrim or Witcher 3 are good games. (that being said both games are on Switch too). Even though reality is they are very, very mediocre compared to the best japanese games from developers such as Nintendo, From Software and Monolith Soft.

I wasn't aware n64 was a hd console.
In other words wtf you're talking about. What you expect? A Pokemon game with photorealistic graphics? I don't see how the look of a game like this could be improved in any meaningful way. It looks good and it's still gonna look good 20 years after because cartoons don't get old. Unless you complain about the lack of detail in the visual look everytime you watch Simpsons from TV.

Soulslike games usually include

  • cryptic story
  • dark, gothic environments
  • hard difficulty, especially in boss battles
  • some sort of punishing death mechanic
  • interconnected semi- open or open world, either 3d or 2d.

To be honest, I'm not sure if this counts as a real genre. From Software's Dark Souls and other such games are basically action rpgs. It's the finer details creating the "soulslike" experience.

I don't appreciate the copycats too much, though. There's a million ways to create an action rpg and staying original instead of trying to look just like Dark Souls.

Re: Poll: So, What Do You Think Of Mario's New Look?

He looks the same. Why is there no option to vote for the obvious.

Edit: I can see many people would prefer a Mario with no facial expressions and a high pitched voice. Talk about creepy and annoying at the same time, I'm glad these people are not responsible for the movie.

Also Mario's original popularity was not a thing because he was a Mickey Mouse voiced mascot without personality. People liked him because he was ORDINARY and relatable to everyman, a plumber from Brooklyn. It seems Nintendo has realized that and combined the best of both worlds.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are among my favorite games of all time as well. I would not add any other 3d Zelda to the list, though, except BotW.

As for that article, sure there are opinions. Try googleing "Ocarina of Time is overrated" and you get a million results...

It tends to happen more with better games for reasons. If you take some mediocre game with average score of 70 or something, people seem to complain less.

If reviews do not matter let's just start buying games with metascore of max 20. Suddenly the critics are right. Actually, I wouldn't trust any single reviewer either, but that's why the aggregators such as metacritic and open critic exist.

The only thing that has no value are user reviews, since randoms always score games as either 10 or 0 and it's possible to contribute a score without playing the game.

Real critics have experience all over the board which leads to better understanding and tastes + they have to play the games through instead of dropping them after 5 minutes.

OK let's accept the original Zelda is not a "proper" Zelda game either then. Actually, Zelda 2 can't be a proper Zelda either because its formula is completely alien to the rest of the series.

If Nintendo was still making Zelda games in the vein of Ocarina of Time, they wouldn't be much of competition to true open world games such as RDR 2 or Elden Ring. People would laugh the series off, not counting some fans of the old games.

To evoke sense of adventure has always been in the core of Zelda experience. I didn't awe the dungeons when I was playing OOT back in the day. The most awesome place was Hyrule Field. And BotW was almost all about that.

BotW and now TotK are simply evolving where the series was always meant to evolve.

Edit: And by the way, if you close your eyes from the vocal hater base from gaming sites and look at the facts, BotW is the best selling and second-best rated Zelda game ever.

@Banjo-
You have a right to not like the game, but if Zelda had never went the open world route with all the new innovations, the series would no longer be able to compete with other AAA action adventure games.

BotW is one of the highest rated games of all time, like it or not. To me and many others it's the best game out there for now and probably until Tears of the Kingdom releases.

I hope they implement a new mechanic to force us use more than 1 weapon in the game. Maybe not weapon breaking again, but something alike that would not annoy anyone.

As for the title. Did Nintendo predict Queen Elizabeth's death? The timing on this one sounds like a really strange coincidence. Apparently Nintendo had the title in some reddit account a week ago.

P.S. Thank god no WW or TP. I'm tired of those games and their formulaic nature. I'm glad Nintendo gave Zelda series an open world rebirth so it can compete and beat other AAA games of today.

It's a different thing to critisize a game you've played compared to one that isn't even out yet.

Taking into account how big this game has to be, and not just by the size of the world but for all the new gameplay mechanics etc., the short trailers we've seen cannot be enough to conclude that the game is bad.

It's just common sense, since there is simply way too much we don't know about the game yet

Re: 'The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom' Launches In May 2023

Cia

@BloodNinja
I doubt you would critize Elden Ring. You're just as much From Software fanboy as the people you blame are Nintendo fans. Of course everyone always say something like "I'm not a fan I just enjoy that..." or something, but it's pretty much exactly the same thing.

Can't we just be happy there's so many good games on the market already and upcoming? As for me, I enjoy both Zelda and Soulsborne, although my inner Nintendo child prefers the former.

And I'm sure this next chapter won't disappoint.

Edit: I believe people get upset because you say this sequel which is not even out yet is a bad game. It's VERY unlikely. This is the biggest game Nintendo has ever made. And as stated before, we've barely seen anything.

Re: 'The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom' Launches In May 2023

Cia

@BloodNinja
Elden Ring reused assets as well. You might as well argue that all From Software games looks the same because they kind of do.
And when Zelda TotK releases, it will have been just as long in development if not longer.

We still haven't seen almost anything about this game, but since it's been longer in development than even BotW, it must be huge since the team doesn't need to create everything from scratch.
