Re: Poll: So, Do You Prefer Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Or Tears Of The Kingdom?

Cia

BotW makes TotK look like ugly mess with bad controls.

Just because TotK has "more" everything doesn't make it automatically better. It feels like 90% of it is filler.

The worst thing after the ability wheel, sage controls and the stop- and go gameplay with arrows are the weapons. Most of BotW's great looking weapons were removed or replaced with decayed crap you need to fuse on, and if it happens to be a sword say goodbye for the sheathe after fusing.

It even looks worse than BotW. Grass is all jagged and the apparent "better" draw distance makes distant landmarks look uglier. The clutter doesn't help either.

The cherry on the top is the fact you can just cheese almost every shrine by using bombs or rocket shields. What's the point of making a puzzle if the player can just run past it?

It's annoying when people say BotW is "better because it was more impactful." No, it's better because it's a BETTER GAME in most aspects that really matter.

Re: Soapbox: How Zelda's Bad Economy Made Weapon Degradation Great Again

Cia

The worst example of useless rupees was Twilight Princess. Every chest contained either rupees or heart piece. And you almost never needed to use the rupees for anything. The game was also so pathetically easy you really didn't need the heart pieces either outside of those you get from bosses.

In BotW you constantly needed rupees for arrows and opening the great fairies, and in TotK you'd better have some cash everytime you need to upgrade armorsets. Hearts are needed so you don't get killed instantly by stronger enemies, because unlike the earlier game they can actually hit 10 + hearts away from you if you haven't upgraded armor. In the older games enemies were much weaker.

I also like the fact there's more than rupees and heartpieces in chests.

As for weapon breaking it's a great game mechanic, imo, because it guarantees you're not using the same boring sword all the time.

That being said, TotK did it even better because you can repair the weapons if you want.

Re: GTA 6 On 'Switch 2' Would Be "Very Tricky To Pull Off", Says Digital Foundry

Cia

It doesn't really matter. The next Zelda for Switch 2 will look like it's at least a generation ahead of the console's tech. TotK shouldn't have been able to run on the normal Switch either.

@rotekps_aniger
RDR was a ps3 game originally. It's no wonder it runs without problems on the Switch. As for "GTA 6 can run on N64... I don't know what to say Even if it was somehow possible, it's not gonna be even remotely the same game at that point.

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure

Cia

I don't think I can ever get tired of the open world formula, since the next game has a whole new world and tricks etc.

The old, linear formula, though. No more of that, thank you. It got so predictable and tiring.

As for the dungeons the old ones had more simple puzzles we've seen in a million game and they weren't really longer than the new ones, so I really don't get them why some people miss them so much.

Re: Zelda Boss Says A "Direct Sequel" To Tears Of The Kingdom Is Unlikely

Cia

It's obvious the next Zelda will have completely new mechanics, artstyle and musical direction.

The only thing common with BotW and TotK will be the fact it's open world. And possibly Link's climbing ability.

Besides, TotK's story had a definitive ending. Ganondorf who was also the Source of earlier Calamities was destroyed. There's no more story for this version of Zelda.

Re: Best Mario RPGs Of All Time

Cia

By the way I loved Sticker Star. Despite getting permanently stuck.

Even though Super Paper Mario is my favorite, I don't think any of these games should get less than a 7,5/ 10 rating.

Re: Best Mario RPGs Of All Time

Cia

Ugh, TTYD in the first place again. The game has too much needless backtracking. It gets boring combined with the turn- based battle. Some stages such as the jungle are really dull.

My vote goes to Super Paper Mario for the story and gameplay. Smrpg is also great.

Re: Random: Ghibli-Inspired Animation Of Zelda's Castle Town Looks Even Better In Third Person

Cia

Waiting for the dumb "Nintendo hire this guy"- comments. I mean, what would his role be? Copying artstyles from others and implementing the stuff to Unreal Engine?

OOT and MM have their own artstyles. If they were to make a remake and use the ghibli- style for graphics, to me that would feel like a cheap move. And then everyone would just call it a Ghibli- Zelda. Like yeah, Nintendo would really want the name of another company associated with its highest rated game ever.

@Mgalens
Ehh... you mean more games that look like BotW/ TotK? Here's a prediction: the next Zelda game will have a completely new artstyle.

Re: Talking Point: Going Home - Ocarina Of Time's Best Locales

Cia

Hyrule Field was my favorite locale, because at the time it was a huge open space with a realistic and beautiful day and night cycle.

It's also the reason I love BotW: the whole game is like Hyrule Field except this time you can climb over those barriers.

Re: Random: Nintendo Is A "Wonderful" Place To Work If You're A Genius, According To Former Employee

@LadyCharlie
Corporations are made of people. Video game corporations are made of artists, coders and innovators. You really think all these people work with the mindset of hating the people they make games for? When I made games, I did it because I wanted people to play and enjoy the ending product. Getting money for it was secondary.

Of course big companies often go money first, but to get money they need to use the talents of their passionate developers. And those developers almost always make games because they enjoy it and they want others to enjoy their products too. A little free time from the cruel world.

As for this article, the person working for Nintendo told they were good people. You think he was lying about that for no reason? Sometimes you cynics really baffle me.

A corporation can be your friend. Unless it's empty from people, but that would mean it's not even functional. That being said, I'm sure there really are developers who make games thinking nothing but money. It's usually easy to recognize their products. They look either super generic or include soft adult content.

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time

Cia

Looking at these games, Sonic seems to be all over the place both thematically and quality- wise.

He's very much like Mega Man, the first 3 games were golden and then it all just went derivative/ obscure.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Tops Another 'Greatest Games' List

Cia

@Reztobi
TotK has at least 3 times the landmass of BotW when you count all the sky islands, caves, wells and the Depths together. And of course there are changes on the surface, all new story, all new shrines (152 of them), all new quests, all new dungeons, all new mechanics, bosses, etc... saying that BotW is 70% of TotK is the most false thing I've heard.

Then again, if you only played 10- 15 hours you must've barely gotten out of the tutorial area which can easily take 10 hours first time.

Re: Soapbox: TOTK's Ganondorf Is Great, But Zelda Needs To Do More With Its Villain

Cia

@keatypoo
Lol , I disagree. Demise feels like a braggart who's all talk and no action.

Compared to TotK's Ganondorf, the presentation of Demise is nowhere near as menacing or epic. TotK's intro scene with Ganondorf awakening alone is more intense than anything Demise ever did.

Demise is also one of those bosses who are introduced way too late in the game. Sure, there's the Imprisoned but actual Demise appears when the game is pretty much over. Lame. Reminds me of TP Ganon's late arrival.

Totk's Ganondorf's feats and the final battle also blows Demise out of the water.

Demise is a Ganondorf wannabe despite the fact he precedes Ganon lorewise.

Re: Soapbox: TOTK's Ganondorf Is Great, But Zelda Needs To Do More With Its Villain

Cia

TotK has the best Ganondorf by a landslide. Not only his epic presentation, but also the feats! You ask what he's been doing? Let's make a list:

In the past he

  • created all the monsters in Hyrule
  • created the blood moon
  • waged war on Hyrule and almost won
  • Killed Sonia and countless others in the war

In the current day he

  • Was the cause of all calamity Ganon events that lead to destruction of central Hyrule and the castle, and killed all the champions except Link with the blights.
  • Is the cause of all regional calamities in TotK. The sandstorm in Gerudo region, freezing Rito Village, polluting zora's domain, poisoning the Deku Tree and drugging the Gorons. The boss monsters and puppet Zelda causing them are his direct extensions. You can see the bosses share his eyes.
  • Gloom Hands and phantom Ganons are also his extensions. The phantoms are his direct extensions. Why should he get off his throne when he can do it remotely? Wouldn't it be anticlimactic as hell if Ganon himself walked on the surface doing everything by himself?
  • Caused the gloom to spread, decaying weapons and making people sick
  • the monsters in TotK seem to be more disciplined, carrying out his will on the surface

Compare this to WW Ganon for example who just kind of kidnapped some kids and managed to ravage one island... also, his presentation was weak as hell. Losing a little kid in a sword fight... now that was lackluster.

Looking at the comments some people seem to have nostalgia goggles on. Here's my list of best Ganon's from best to worst:

1. TotK
2. ALttP
3. OOT
4. BotW
5. TP
6. WW
7. The wannabe Ganon called Demise
8. NES Zelda
