Re: Best Mario RPGs Of All Time

Cia

Ugh, TTYD in the first place again. The game has too much needless backtracking. It gets boring combined with the turn- based battle. Some stages such as the jungle are really dull.

My vote goes to Super Paper Mario for the story and gameplay. Smrpg is also great.

Re: Random: Ghibli-Inspired Animation Of Zelda's Castle Town Looks Even Better In Third Person

Cia

Waiting for the dumb "Nintendo hire this guy"- comments. I mean, what would his role be? Copying artstyles from others and implementing the stuff to Unreal Engine?

OOT and MM have their own artstyles. If they were to make a remake and use the ghibli- style for graphics, to me that would feel like a cheap move. And then everyone would just call it a Ghibli- Zelda. Like yeah, Nintendo would really want the name of another company associated with its highest rated game ever.

@Mgalens
Ehh... you mean more games that look like BotW/ TotK? Here's a prediction: the next Zelda game will have a completely new artstyle.

Re: Talking Point: Going Home - Ocarina Of Time's Best Locales

Cia

Hyrule Field was my favorite locale, because at the time it was a huge open space with a realistic and beautiful day and night cycle.

It's also the reason I love BotW: the whole game is like Hyrule Field except this time you can climb over those barriers.

Re: Random: Nintendo Is A "Wonderful" Place To Work If You're A Genius, According To Former Employee

Cia

@LadyCharlie
Corporations are made of people. Video game corporations are made of artists, coders and innovators. You really think all these people work with the mindset of hating the people they make games for? When I made games, I did it because I wanted people to play and enjoy the ending product. Getting money for it was secondary.

Of course big companies often go money first, but to get money they need to use the talents of their passionate developers. And those developers almost always make games because they enjoy it and they want others to enjoy their products too. A little free time from the cruel world.

As for this article, the person working for Nintendo told they were good people. You think he was lying about that for no reason? Sometimes you cynics really baffle me.

A corporation can be your friend. Unless it's empty from people, but that would mean it's not even functional. That being said, I'm sure there really are developers who make games thinking nothing but money. It's usually easy to recognize their products. They look either super generic or include soft adult content.

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time

Cia

Looking at these games, Sonic seems to be all over the place both thematically and quality- wise.

He's very much like Mega Man, the first 3 games were golden and then it all just went derivative/ obscure.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Tops Another 'Greatest Games' List

Cia

@Reztobi
TotK has at least 3 times the landmass of BotW when you count all the sky islands, caves, wells and the Depths together. And of course there are changes on the surface, all new story, all new shrines (152 of them), all new quests, all new dungeons, all new mechanics, bosses, etc... saying that BotW is 70% of TotK is the most false thing I've heard.

Then again, if you only played 10- 15 hours you must've barely gotten out of the tutorial area which can easily take 10 hours first time.

Re: Soapbox: TOTK's Ganondorf Is Great, But Zelda Needs To Do More With Its Villain

Cia

@keatypoo
Lol , I disagree. Demise feels like a braggart who's all talk and no action.

Compared to TotK's Ganondorf, the presentation of Demise is nowhere near as menacing or epic. TotK's intro scene with Ganondorf awakening alone is more intense than anything Demise ever did.

Demise is also one of those bosses who are introduced way too late in the game. Sure, there's the Imprisoned but actual Demise appears when the game is pretty much over. Lame. Reminds me of TP Ganon's late arrival.

Totk's Ganondorf's feats and the final battle also blows Demise out of the water.

Demise is a Ganondorf wannabe despite the fact he precedes Ganon lorewise.

Re: Soapbox: TOTK's Ganondorf Is Great, But Zelda Needs To Do More With Its Villain

Cia

TotK has the best Ganondorf by a landslide. Not only his epic presentation, but also the feats! You ask what he's been doing? Let's make a list:

In the past he

  • created all the monsters in Hyrule
  • created the blood moon
  • waged war on Hyrule and almost won
  • Killed Sonia and countless others in the war

In the current day he

  • Was the cause of all calamity Ganon events that lead to destruction of central Hyrule and the castle, and killed all the champions except Link with the blights.
  • Is the cause of all regional calamities in TotK. The sandstorm in Gerudo region, freezing Rito Village, polluting zora's domain, poisoning the Deku Tree and drugging the Gorons. The boss monsters and puppet Zelda causing them are his direct extensions. You can see the bosses share his eyes.
  • Gloom Hands and phantom Ganons are also his extensions. The phantoms are his direct extensions. Why should he get off his throne when he can do it remotely? Wouldn't it be anticlimactic as hell if Ganon himself walked on the surface doing everything by himself?
  • Caused the gloom to spread, decaying weapons and making people sick
  • the monsters in TotK seem to be more disciplined, carrying out his will on the surface

Compare this to WW Ganon for example who just kind of kidnapped some kids and managed to ravage one island... also, his presentation was weak as hell. Losing a little kid in a sword fight... now that was lackluster.

Looking at the comments some people seem to have nostalgia goggles on. Here's my list of best Ganon's from best to worst:

1. TotK
2. ALttP
3. OOT
4. BotW
5. TP
6. WW
7. The wannabe Ganon called Demise
8. NES Zelda

Re: Soapbox: FOMO Nearly Ruined Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom For Me

Cia

@TheMegaMarshtomp
Agreed. I highly prefer BotW. TotK just seems so full of stuff. Too much controls makes the controls bad. Too much clutter on the environment makes it look bad. Too much items to fuse makes the weapons look bad. Too much chatter from npcs makes the dialogue bad. Too much space makes the space look empty and meaningless (looking at you, Depths and caves). Too much characters aiding you makes playing bad... although you can at least turn the sages off.

The list goes on. BotW had just the right amount of everything. A perfect game followed by an overstuffed mess. Which I still enjoyed because the foundation is so good.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Strong Sales Continue Months After Launch (US)

Cia

Armored Core sells just because it's a From Software game. I bet many are disappointed because the game doesn't play exactly like the Souls games.
@Truthisrare
It's not just you. To me, BotW is clearly the superior game mainly because it's more grounded and controls better. Sometimes less is more and if you just keep on adding more on top of more, you get a cluster****.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Showed 'Switch 2' Demos To Developers At Gamescom

Cia

The normal Switch already runs TotK- a game with the most advanced physics engine in the market. I can only wonder what they can do with more powerful hardware.

As for the graphics... I guess we could get more games with photorealistic artstyle. Cartoony games reached the graphical peak already on the Wii U.

(That being said Alien Isolation for the Switch is already photorealistic, so...)

Re: TOTK Director Is Extremely Vague On Game's Placement In Zelda Timeline

Cia

This just confirms that

1. Both BotW and the following TotK happen in a future long after the events of the previous games

2. Not only Link and Zelda, but also Ganondorf can be reborn as a different character with the same characteristics as his previous incarnations

@bunkerneath
The events of BotW are repeatedly told or shown in TotK so it's an obvious sequel. It's just not the school part where the whole story of BotW is directly mentioned, but it's everywhere starting from the regional villages. I believe the old shrines and Divine Beasts were removed just for gameplay reasons, but there could be any story explanation for their disappearance.

As for Calamity Ganon, it was the Malice leaking out of Ganondorf's mummy that created all the Calamity Ganons in history.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Soulslikes - Games To Play If You Like Dark Souls

Cia

A bit out of subject, but I've had it with indie games. I've been disappointed to almost all of the most popular ones.

Dead Cells was so boring I never got too far in it.

Guacamelee 1 was decent but nowhere close to the best Metroidvania's. Guacamelee 2 is almost the same game except with a worse story. It's bad imo.

Hollow Knight was good while it lasted. Not a masterpiece, but a good game.

Celeste just plain sucks. The most overrated game I've played.

Ori and the Blind Forest. It's got nice visuals but I felt like I've played the same game a million times before. It's hard to put my finger on why it was so boring.

Axiom Verge is like Metroid 1 for NES. Except with better controls and a really bad writing. I couldn't force myself to finish it.

That's just a few examples. The only indie game I'm waiting is Hollow Knight Silksong, hoping it would improve the first one a lot.

As for Soulslike games, the only good ones are from From Software.

Re: Turok 3: Shadow Of Oblivion Remaster Announced For Switch

Cia

Turok 2 has the best FPS single player campaign ever after Metroid Prime.

I would like to know how Turok 3 compares to that? I never played other entries than the second and I really loved the music, different weapons and the labyrinthine level design.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Surpasses Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom As 2023's Highest-Rated Game "So Far"

Cia

Divinity OS2 was one of the worst rpgs ever and I remember it getting high reviews despite horrible writing, dull story and annoying characters. I haven't played bg3 though. Can anyone confirm whether it has the same flaws as DOS2?

What baffles me is how everyone praises the fact the game has no microtransactions, ingame purchases, paywalls, etc. I mean, the same is true for pretty much every Nintendo game. Why are they not praised for the same reason?

Re: Best Pikmin Games

Cia

FFs you shouldn't include identical releases. How does it make sense the gc version of Pikmin 2 is a lot higher on the list than the Switch version which is identical except with a higher resolution?

I haven't played Pikmin 4, so for me 3 was the best entry so far.

Re: Poll: Do You Think Switch Can Catch PS2's Total Sales Before 'Switch 2' Arrives?

Cia

Just don't release the Switch successor too soon. If they waited like 3 more years for 10 year lifespan I'm sure the Switch could break the record.

Of course this would require 1 or 2 serious heavy hitter exclusives... and I'm not sure if they have anything else but MP 4 and Mario Wonder coming. Then again, TotK might keep on selling well far in the future.

@Axecon
You could argue the same for ps2 since it also had a lite version.

Re: Feature: So, Which Zelda Games Aren't On Switch Yet?

Cia

I really don't care too much about Wind Waker, Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword. None of them really did anything new we hadn't already seen in other, better 3d Zelda games before them. Well, perhaps not counting the open world of WW, but then again other games such as San Andreas did it better at the time.

To me, the best Zelda games are the NES original, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, OOT, MM, BotW and TotK. These are the most revolutionary entries that actually pushed the medium forward.

If I had to choose the absolute best entry, I guess it would have to be TotK since BotW was like my dream game and TotK is Botw times 10 in terms of both scale and the revolutionary abilities. There's really nothing like it on the market.

My sister tried to play Twilight Princess after BotW and she found it boring, small and restricted in comparison. She doesn't even play games normally even though she's tried some, but when she accidentally got a Wii U and tried BotW it still blew her socks off. I've heard a lot of similar stories about BotW and TotK and they basically prove nostalgia for the series doesn't have anything to do with the quality of these games.

This is just to disprove the tired arguments about BotW and TotK getting good reviews just because the reviewers have nostalgia for the series.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games

Cia

@Rudolf
And what about the Castlevania games from the Advance collection? They are definitely Metroidvania's, and a lot better than stuff like Axiom Verge or Guacamelee 2. Actually, I did slightly enjoy the first Guacamelee but the second game was just too much the same with less interesting story.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games

Cia

Where are all the Metroid games? Are they not part of Metroidvania genre? Because if they were, Dread is the best there is closely followed by Hollow Knight.

Also, Castlevania Advance collection games are definitely Metroidvania's and they should be up there.

This should be called the best indie Metroidvania's.
