@Banjo-
Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are among my favorite games of all time as well. I would not add any other 3d Zelda to the list, though, except BotW.

As for that article, sure there are opinions. Try googleing "Ocarina of Time is overrated" and you get a million results...

It tends to happen more with better games for reasons. If you take some mediocre game with average score of 70 or something, people seem to complain less.

If reviews do not matter let's just start buying games with metascore of max 20. Suddenly the critics are right. Actually, I wouldn't trust any single reviewer either, but that's why the aggregators such as metacritic and open critic exist.

The only thing that has no value are user reviews, since randoms always score games as either 10 or 0 and it's possible to contribute a score without playing the game.

Real critics have experience all over the board which leads to better understanding and tastes + they have to play the games through instead of dropping them after 5 minutes.

OK let's accept the original Zelda is not a "proper" Zelda game either then. Actually, Zelda 2 can't be a proper Zelda either because its formula is completely alien to the rest of the series.

If Nintendo was still making Zelda games in the vein of Ocarina of Time, they wouldn't be much of competition to true open world games such as RDR 2 or Elden Ring. People would laugh the series off, not counting some fans of the old games.

To evoke sense of adventure has always been in the core of Zelda experience. I didn't awe the dungeons when I was playing OOT back in the day. The most awesome place was Hyrule Field. And BotW was almost all about that.

BotW and now TotK are simply evolving where the series was always meant to evolve.

Edit: And by the way, if you close your eyes from the vocal hater base from gaming sites and look at the facts, BotW is the best selling and second-best rated Zelda game ever.

@Banjo-
You have a right to not like the game, but if Zelda had never went the open world route with all the new innovations, the series would no longer be able to compete with other AAA action adventure games.

BotW is one of the highest rated games of all time, like it or not. To me and many others it's the best game out there for now and probably until Tears of the Kingdom releases.

I hope they implement a new mechanic to force us use more than 1 weapon in the game. Maybe not weapon breaking again, but something alike that would not annoy anyone.

As for the title. Did Nintendo predict Queen Elizabeth's death? The timing on this one sounds like a really strange coincidence. Apparently Nintendo had the title in some reddit account a week ago.

P.S. Thank god no WW or TP. I'm tired of those games and their formulaic nature. I'm glad Nintendo gave Zelda series an open world rebirth so it can compete and beat other AAA games of today.

It's a different thing to critisize a game you've played compared to one that isn't even out yet.

Taking into account how big this game has to be, and not just by the size of the world but for all the new gameplay mechanics etc., the short trailers we've seen cannot be enough to conclude that the game is bad.

It's just common sense, since there is simply way too much we don't know about the game yet

Re: 'The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom' Launches In May 2023

@BloodNinja
I doubt you would critize Elden Ring. You're just as much From Software fanboy as the people you blame are Nintendo fans. Of course everyone always say something like "I'm not a fan I just enjoy that..." or something, but it's pretty much exactly the same thing.

Can't we just be happy there's so many good games on the market already and upcoming? As for me, I enjoy both Zelda and Soulsborne, although my inner Nintendo child prefers the former.

And I'm sure this next chapter won't disappoint.

Edit: I believe people get upset because you say this sequel which is not even out yet is a bad game. It's VERY unlikely. This is the biggest game Nintendo has ever made. And as stated before, we've barely seen anything.

Re: 'The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom' Launches In May 2023

@BloodNinja
Elden Ring reused assets as well. You might as well argue that all From Software games looks the same because they kind of do.
And when Zelda TotK releases, it will have been just as long in development if not longer.

We still haven't seen almost anything about this game, but since it's been longer in development than even BotW, it must be huge since the team doesn't need to create everything from scratch.

Re: Skyrim Anniversary Edition Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch (Again)

Cia

@BreathingMiit
Elder Scrolls became really big after Skyrim and the open world genre has evolved a lot since then. I'm pretty sure the development of ES 6 takes so long because they want to give the fans a quality product.

Same thing applies to next Zelda or GTA for example. These are the biggest open world series out there (not counting RDR series). Each developer want to do all they can to bring the best possible product.

This is my prediction for the strengths of these three sequels:

Zelda BotW sequel is probably the most fun game to play

GTA 6 is technologically most advanced game

ES 6 is probably not as good as the previous two unless they try new ways to build their world and characters, but I'm certain it won't disappoint the fans.

Best graphics goes to GTA 6 most likely

Best overworld goes to Zelda or GTA 6.

Best gameplay goes to Zelda probably

Best story goes to GTA 6 unless Nintendo hires Koizumi to write Zelda's scenario

Best rpg aspects goes to ES 6 likely

Most interactive world is either from Zelda or GTA6. I'd put my money on Zelda at this point.

Best music goes to either Zelda or GTA 6 depending on your tastes. I'm pretty sure ES 6 music is once again generic medieval music.

ES 6 should be able to at least defeat older games meaning GTA 5 and the original BotW to be able to really compete. I don't think Bethesda has the talent to go against new Zelda or GTA 6.

That being said, I'm sure ES6 will still be loved. It simply has to do its own thing with improvements.

Re: Rumour: New Metal Gear Solid Remasters Reportedly Incoming

Cia

Why can't they just port the ps3 mgs collection for Switch? Or release this new one with lower (1080p) resolution (meaning lower compared to 4k where they must be aiming?)

Almost as of some people forgot Switch is a HD console. Despite not doing ultra 4k HD.

Re: Random: We've Been Waiting Over Half A Decade For A "New" Mainline Zelda Game

Cia

@gcunit
They said they want to make it as good as possible. I'm pretty sure Zelda team is not just sitting on their asses and letting the fans wait for nothing.

As for all the "pandemic caused it" arguments, ok. But then the same applies to other big games such as Elden Ring.

Is it so hard to believe it takes Nintendo a long time to develop the latest in their crownjewel series? They want it to be able to compete with other big releases. Actually, I'm pretty sure they want to make it the best of the best. And while the games get bigger and in some aspects better, development obviously takes longer too.

Re: Best Mario Kart Games Of All Time

@Zequio
Mario Kart 8 for Wii U is better than Deluxe since you need to unlock all those things. I really don't know why they devalued single player experience in Deluxe.

Re: Video: Masahiro Sakurai Talks About Frame Rates In Games

Cia

My opinion is that it does not affect on my enjoyment unless it's crippling the game. That only happens when I play pc games with settings my computer can't handle.

The best games I've ever played have been 30fps. That old formula 1 game running at 120fps is not a better game than BotW for example... as for the difference between 60 and 120 fps I can't even see it.

All in all, stuff like this is mostly irrelevant.

Re: Feature: Just How Accessible Are Switch Games Like Xenoblade, Pokémon, And Mario Odyssey?

Cia

Xenoblade 2 does not have the custom sliders unless you buy the dlc. That being said, it has an easy mode which is actually perfectly balanced mode. Not too easy, the enemies merely have less hp so normal battles won't take eternity.

As for Xenoblade 1 Definitive Edition, its casual mode is basiically a god mode and kind of ruins the game, since you barely have to level and you can just skip all other growth mechanics.

Re: Capcom Showcases Gameplay From Monster Hunter: Rise Title Update

Cia

@Browny
Oh yeah, forgot to mention. The endgame provides an afflicted variation of all the monsters in the game. These feel like new battles once again. The afflicted monsters have got huge health pools and increased attack power. They can also inflict bloodblight and have red insects on them you need to hit for additional damage.

If you're MH veteran, these battles will give you true challenge. Even the easiest monsters can wreck you in this afflicted state. Getting optimal endgame gear becomes even more important than before.
