Not sure who the target audience is for this. We already have farming sims pretty well covered between the Story of Seasons games and indy versions like Stardew Valley.
Maybe if this is around the same price point as Stardew I may pick a couple of copies up to play with the Mrs (she loves this style of game) but it's not one that jumps out at me.
Its getting to the consoles time of life when the Switch isn't strong enough to run F2P games anymore. I imagine this is getting dropped on Switch to help push numbers for the upcoming mobile port to save maintaining 2 servers for 2 handheld versions.
Hopefully this comes to Gamepass at a later date, love the look of this buthave way to much to play at the moment so not in any rush to buy retro styled games.
If only Nintendo spent as much time and money on R&D as they do on pointless crap like this, we may get a semi competitive console for next gen instead of something already outdated on release.
It's not so much that the Switch couldn't handle the single player campaigns but let's be honest who buys CoD to play solo.
This series has fast paced gunplay where a split second hesitation or latency can be the difference between victory or loss in an online gunfight.
Nintendo's online is miles behind where it needs to be, to effectively run a shooter like this - Hell, look how Laggy Splatoon 3 can get and that's the Switches flagship team based shooter.
This would likely also make crossplay impossible as the Switches meagre 30fps would be going up against current gen systems that allow upto a 120hz refresh rate - you would lose 98% of the time!!
I also wouldn't imagine it selling enough to justify a stand alone version, as the Switch player base would be significantly smaller and larger lobbies harder to populate.
Would have been really excited for this but considering how dead the online for the first has been pretty much since launch will hold off for a deep sale.
Way overpriced and the art style chosen for these "remakes" is ugly as hell. May eventually grab it pre owned if I see it cheap but not in any kind of rush to play these again.
@Truedoogie yeah I've seen the trailers, it's a slight remaster and it still looks like hot garbage - apart from the cut scenes which look pretty nice. I wouldn't have complained if it was priced alongside other indy games but this is priced as a full game - the same as Midnight Suns (I recently paid £30 for the MS ultimate edition with all DLC) or Fire Emblem on release. Is this game comparable? Not even close
@Truedoogie @BTB20 they have done a very basic upscaling of the graphics and these still look like a mobile game. Actually that's a lie, mobile games look much better than this Norway. I appreciate that the switch is under powered but these still look like they run on potatoes. Which for a full priced release is lazy.
Meh I was interested in picking this up until I seen the price with the crazy Nintentax added. Will just hold off for Wargrove 2 instead of supporting lazy over priced ports.
Can't wait, we have the access room booked in our local Cinema and we are getting an 1/8 of Shrooms to go watch it at the weekend. What's the 420 humour like in this, is it similar to other Illumination movies?
@SpaceboyScreams I found the limitations in BotW far outweighed the fun for me as 9 times out of 10 I wasn't able to do what I wanted. Something that really annoyed me with the runes were simple things like having the power of magnetism that can launch a giant steel ball across a puzzle room, but wasn't strong enough to pull a sword out of a goblins hand. Seriously WTF!
@HeadPirate seems backwards to other shooters where you are rewarded more for beating other players in PvP than PvE. If you don't get rewarded or beating everyone else what's the point in playing? Although the last Team based shooter I played online was Gears 4 so I'm way out of date on shooter mechanics.
I've said it elsewhere but BotW felt like the Original Assassin's Creed to me. Great sandbox but ultimately empty tech Demos.
I was hoping that the sequel did what Ezio did for the AC franchise and actually build on the original template and inject some gameplay into the sandbox. Unfortunately it doesn't look like this is the case, and I feel that those of us who expected more from the sequel than a direct continuation of the gameplay with a few token upgrades are going to be disappointed.
As a long time Zelda fan (halve a 1/2 sleeve Zelda/Link tattoo) I hate how they stole the license just to sell us the same copy and paste FarCry gameplay but in a much more empty and boring map.
@Phornix Elden Ring was absolutely nothing like Dark Souls apart from general aesthetics. Elden Ring focused a lot more on RPG style builds rather than just the standard DS strength/Dex route. I 100% Elden Ring but couldn't even manage a single Completion on BoTW as I got bored in the empty landscape.
@johnedwin so it will still be a gen behind what's already available
Games like Elden Ring have really raised the bar in open world exploration games since BotW came out. Unfortunately it looks like TotK hasn't improved on the formula at all apart from a few minor additions. I was hoping for an AC - AC2 jump, they had the tech demo in the first title all they needed to do was add in some gameplay and push what is capable of the hardware but nothing showed so far looks any better than the original.
Hopefully we find out how much extra content is going to be included and if the sky area is a full map or just more poxy challenge shrines.
Such a shame that this is releasing on Switch and not 1 of the newer consoles that could really showcase Hyrule instead of being stuck with basic HD and 30fps.
So how does he actually eat if everything he swallowed gets transported elsewhere? No wonder he's constantly trying to eat everything, he's starving to death.
Everyone freaking out over some paid cosmetics in a racing game. (Especially Lego games, how many dlc packs were sold alongside the latest starwars game?) You usually have the option to just play the free track of the battle pass if you don't want to pay for extra stuff. I actually enjoy having a battle pass in these kinds of game, it gives me something to grind towards rather than just a garage full of cars I will never use.
After playing recent open world games like Elden Ring and even poorer performers like Biomutant, the Switch limitations has killed any excitement I had of any upcoming switch games.
TotK looks pretty much identical to the original with a few new areas and crafting options. For £60 I expect a modern AAA game, not a continuation of a wii-U game using the same 6 year old engine.
Will keep my pre order as I was lucky to get a collectors edition, at least I will be able to make a bit of money out of the forced scarcity even if the game sucks.
I wish that they showcased more gameplay. The first one felt more like a tech demo than an actual fleshed out game and this doesn't seem to be have been expanded upon in any significant way apart from adding in a few new gimmicks.
On the plus side I was lucky enough to get a collectors edition pre ordered, due to FOMO and the prices people are willing to pay I will likely be flipping it now my interest in the game has faded. Gotta love the Nintendo scarcity lol
If it doesn't include basic online functionality like native voice chat, party and messaging abilities or it doesn't have enough power to play newer games with such serious cutbacks (not interested in ps4 ports as I can already play those currently) it will be the first Nintendo console since gamecube that I don't buy at launch.
Nintendo has killed off any good will I had towards them, with thier scummy business approach to those of us who supported them through the bad times.
I impulse bought Rise and Shadow of the tomb raider (£15 for both with all DLC packs, no brainer) so Will likely be playing through these. I've also started playing Kartrider Drift and the ability to chat with friends while we play means it's taken over MarioKart as my current favourite Kart Racer.
@TheBigBlue I have played them already when they first came out and don't personally feel the need to replay them.
I don't really want to spend my gaming time reliving my childhood, especially when so many there are so many new titles getting released.
Nintendo now has a five year old games library, surely they could chuck us an older switch game once a month as well. I'm sure some of the Indy devs would also allow thier library to be included - its great advertising for them.
I dont get why people get so excited for these old games (that we have all played countless times) getting added to a premium service.
I wish that Nintendo offered new games monthly like Microsoft and Sony do. I appreciate that NSO is less expensive than the Competitors but it also feels super "cheap" - Like a video game equivalent of Primark.
I assumed a modern Diablo Lite would have online as standard
Would it be possible to have a tag at the top of the page (where it says system, publisher etc) saying if a game has couch co-op, online or is single player only. It would mean we don't need to read a review for a game that doesn't meet our needs.
Could be a fun game to kill a few hours grinding with friends. Wish these reviews covered what the online stability is like. If it suffers frame drops in single player is it unplayable in multiplayer??
I kind of regret selling mine but was offered £120 and unfortunately that was way to good to turn down. Hopefully I will be able to grab another one next time they are in stock in the UK.
Meh, I have only ever bought my Switches (all 5 of them) and first party games second hand. I refuse to give Nintendo any more of my money after they tried double charging to repurchase my Wii-U library. If that is how a company treats those that supported them trough the bad times F*** them.
I'm stuck in work until Monday so It will likely just be Metroid Prime or Hyrule Warriors. Can't wait to get home and carry on with Wo Long - Shame we don't have more Souls games on Switch.
