Re: Soapbox: Can We Stop Pretending Switch Can't Run Call Of Duty?

Chaotic_Neutral

It's not so much that the Switch couldn't handle the single player campaigns but let's be honest who buys CoD to play solo.

This series has fast paced gunplay where a split second hesitation or latency can be the difference between victory or loss in an online gunfight.

Nintendo's online is miles behind where it needs to be, to effectively run a shooter like this - Hell, look how Laggy Splatoon 3 can get and that's the Switches flagship team based shooter.

This would likely also make crossplay impossible as the Switches meagre 30fps would be going up against current gen systems that allow upto a 120hz refresh rate - you would lose 98% of the time!!

I also wouldn't imagine it selling enough to justify a stand alone version, as the Switch player base would be significantly smaller and larger lobbies harder to populate.

@Truedoogie yeah I've seen the trailers, it's a slight remaster and it still looks like hot garbage - apart from the cut scenes which look pretty nice.
I wouldn't have complained if it was priced alongside other indy games but this is priced as a full game - the same as Midnight Suns (I recently paid £30 for the MS ultimate edition with all DLC) or Fire Emblem on release. Is this game comparable? Not even close

@SpaceboyScreams I found the limitations in BotW far outweighed the fun for me as 9 times out of 10 I wasn't able to do what I wanted.
Something that really annoyed me with the runes were simple things like having the power of magnetism that can launch a giant steel ball across a puzzle room, but wasn't strong enough to pull a sword out of a goblins hand. Seriously WTF!

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The New Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer?

Chaotic_Neutral

I've said it elsewhere but BotW felt like the Original Assassin's Creed to me. Great sandbox but ultimately empty tech Demos.

I was hoping that the sequel did what Ezio did for the AC franchise and actually build on the original template and inject some gameplay into the sandbox. Unfortunately it doesn't look like this is the case, and I feel that those of us who expected more from the sequel than a direct continuation of the gameplay with a few token upgrades are going to be disappointed.

As a long time Zelda fan (halve a 1/2 sleeve Zelda/Link tattoo) I hate how they stole the license just to sell us the same copy and paste FarCry gameplay but in a much more empty and boring map.

@johnedwin so it will still be a gen behind what's already available

Games like Elden Ring have really raised the bar in open world exploration games since BotW came out.
Unfortunately it looks like TotK hasn't improved on the formula at all apart from a few minor additions.
I was hoping for an AC - AC2 jump, they had the tech demo in the first title all they needed to do was add in some gameplay and push what is capable of the hardware but nothing showed so far looks any better than the original.

Everyone freaking out over some paid cosmetics in a racing game. (Especially Lego games, how many dlc packs were sold alongside the latest starwars game?)
You usually have the option to just play the free track of the battle pass if you don't want to pay for extra stuff.
I actually enjoy having a battle pass in these kinds of game, it gives me something to grind towards rather than just a garage full of cars I will never use.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Chaotic_Neutral

After playing recent open world games like Elden Ring and even poorer performers like Biomutant, the Switch limitations has killed any excitement I had of any upcoming switch games.

TotK looks pretty much identical to the original with a few new areas and crafting options. For £60 I expect a modern AAA game, not a continuation of a wii-U game using the same 6 year old engine.

Will keep my pre order as I was lucky to get a collectors edition, at least I will be able to make a bit of money out of the forced scarcity even if the game sucks.

Re: Eiji Aonuma On Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom: Expect New Gameplay That Will Change The Game World

Chaotic_Neutral

I wish that they showcased more gameplay.
The first one felt more like a tech demo than an actual fleshed out game and this doesn't seem to be have been expanded upon in any significant way apart from adding in a few new gimmicks.

On the plus side I was lucky enough to get a collectors edition pre ordered, due to FOMO and the prices people are willing to pay I will likely be flipping it now my interest in the game has faded. Gotta love the Nintendo scarcity lol

Re: Video: Everything That Could Go Wrong With The Switch's Successor

Chaotic_Neutral

If it doesn't include basic online functionality like native voice chat, party and messaging abilities or it doesn't have enough power to play newer games with such serious cutbacks (not interested in ps4 ports as I can already play those currently) it will be the first Nintendo console since gamecube that I don't buy at launch.

Nintendo has killed off any good will I had towards them, with thier scummy business approach to those of us who supported them through the bad times.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online Game Boy, SNES & NES Service With Four More Titles

Chaotic_Neutral

@TheBigBlue I have played them already when they first came out and don't personally feel the need to replay them.

I don't really want to spend my gaming time reliving my childhood, especially when so many there are so many new titles getting released.

Nintendo now has a five year old games library, surely they could chuck us an older switch game once a month as well. I'm sure some of the Indy devs would also allow thier library to be included - its great advertising for them.
