I like that adventure bag but having to take the controller off to store seems a weird choice and I don't really play my switch enough to justify buying more accessories for it.
@Iconoclysm That's the limitation of the console, Nintendo can't even get full HD out of so there's no chance they could manage 4k, they can't even let you fuse more than 2 items together at once 🤣
@ComfyAko you do realise that this is 4k 60fps on the other systems. No idea what you mean that companies will cut funding, it would actually be cheaper for third party developers to port games across If Nintendo hardware was equivalent to the competition .
For example Hogwarts Legacy would already be playable instead of Switch gamers having to wait another 6 months for a lacklustre version.
After the popularity of Mario I imagine they would follow a similar approach, get a big name celeb to voice Link and fill the movie with cameos and Easter eggs.
@PoeTheLizard I doubt they could get a "next-gen system" to run while keeping the mobile form factor, unless Nintendo count PS4 as next gen which will cement exactly how far behind they have become 🤣. The steam Deck is sold at a loss as Valve get their money from the software sold, whereas Nintendo refuse to take that approach so any handheld console would still fall behind that in performance. At that point the big question would be who is it aimed at and what is the point in a new console when the Switch is still selling.
I wouldn't be surprised if they continue support for the switch with that taking over the handheld market and a new home console that works alongside it with some connection gimmick between the two. Maybe the Switch could act as a second screen like the Wii-U pad did. It's Nintendo they like to innovate with each system rather than build on what came before.
@Slowdive I don't think the Original sold that well on switch so I doubt it would be financially viable to put the effort into porting replicant and when they release cloud versions they get review bombed or scored down as a result - look at the scores for KH3 switch version.
The emphasis on "next gen platform" fills me with hope that they will move away from the hybrid model and actually release a decent home console next time. The ideal scenario would be a separate handheld that is also backwards compatible with switch whilst also releasing games that can utilise modern tech on a better system.
@Stocksy does it really matter if he was playing a leaked copy for practice? As long as he bought the full game to upload the run then I can't see Nintendo going after him for this.
@Slowdive it's hard to move on when pretty much every article on NL is talking about it, they asked what we thought about the visual comparison so I simply added my thoughts. It looks like a last gen game if you were playing it through cataracts.
All other game developers moving to 4k and Nintendo still hasn't managed to embrace full HD in 2023. It looks like the screen has been smeared with a layer of vaseline, you can't even make out the shopkeepers feature when stood right next to him.
I can definitely see Nintendo going back to LCD if it continues with the hybrid model.
They refuse to sell hardware at a loss so will have to make some cutbacks if they want to keep it below the cost of the PS5 and XsX. If they don't manage that, I cant see it being a success. Who (apart from hard-core Nintendo fans) will pay more than current gen consoles for what will effectively be a handheld PS4?
Without a large user base I imagine 3rd party support would dry up quickly and we will end up with another Wii-U situation. No wonder Nintendo are hesitant to announce the next system.
@Sonicka so by your reckoning, games like Redfall would have been a 9/10 if it dropped on Switch because the limitations and poor performance wouldn't matter.
At the end of the day TotK costs exactly the same as any other modern AAA game and should perform at a similar level - which it doesn't. I suppose if people only have a switch the performance wouldn't be an issue but dropping down to a sub HD blurry 30fps is jarring and ruins the experience for me personally.
@Giancarlothomaz it just about manages to run in HD and has a locked 30fps. If it was on any other console it would be getting ripped to bits, it's only getting a free pass on performance because its on such outdated hardware.
LRG have definitely dug out a profitable niche in the market charging nearly 200% more for a product that is already readily available digitally. From what I've seen on Facebook most of these "collector's" don't even open the box anyway so I fail to see the point in buying a "game" if they don't intend to play it.
I'm not a fan of rhe open world approach they have taken the series and preferred the traditional Zelda formula. I may pick it up later down the line but will be grabbing a pre owned copy as I'm not giving Nintendo any of my money after ruining my favourite franchise.
@chardir I bought one at launch, I then traded that towards a Lite when they came out as I never hooked it up to the TV. I then needed to buy a second Lite so the Mrs could play Animal Crossing and then ended up getting the OLED for the better screen.
Hopefully that will be the last 1 I buy as I hardly turn it on now. I have Gsmepass and PS+ Extra so don't like spending money on games when I get so many to play for free.
These figures are definitely helped by households requiring the purchase of multiple Switches. There are only 2 of us and we have bought 4 (1 original, 2 Lites and 1 OLED) whereas we have only bought 1 of every other console.
@nomither6 we booked the access room in our local Cineworld and took in a pizza when the wife and I went to see it.
In all fairness it wasn't the best 420 movie, a few giggles but it was mostly heavy on the nostalgia.
Meh, I hate how Nintendo shuts everything down. Its been a pain trying to catch streams before bits get taken down but I've managed to watch most of what the game has to offer.
Will check this out although I really wish they would drop WildRift onto Switch. Its a mobile Moba so shouldn't have any issues running on the hardware.
@Deemo37 it's running off the same engine as BotW which was a Wii-U game so it does loom and run like a last gen game. Surely after 6 years there should have been some improvements to the visuals. I suppose I just expect more than mediocrity from a AAA flagship title.
@FawfulsFury Xbox is my main console because of Gamepass. I only really use my PS5 for the exclusives and the Switch for the indy games that it can manage.
@BTB20 apologies, I didn't mean for that to come across as mean as it did.
I'm just sick of people defending Nintendo for sub par offerings. 30FPS is a definite deal breaker for me as I get motion sickness which impeded my enjoyment of BotW and after 5 years Nintendo is still unable to pull something special out for its Flagship title - look at the difference between God of War and Ragnarok. Exactly the same as Zelda, both split by a console "generation" yet the sequel improves on the original in every way - not to mention being the best "Zelda" type game of the last decade.
It's a shame that Nintendo insist on using old hardware (it was outdated at release) and having the games suffer as a consequence. If this was any other company they wouldn't get a free pass.
4 Graphics look like some F2P mobile game and charging full price for 2 GB upgrades with no QoL improvements, No Online matchmaking and Limited voice acting make this reboot feel like a simple cash grab and missed opportunity.
Love that this has done so well but it also means that we are going to get a ton of these movies based on pretty every other game character as the other studies try to capitalise on its success.
If a game doesn't run well handheld, then what is the point in bringing it out in the Switch?
It will also be interesting to see if TotK gets points knocked off for looking blurry and playing at 30fps or will that get the inevitable 9 or 10 just became its a Nintendo IP?
Who the hell uses these sites when everyone knows what Nintendo is like. Just join a DropBox with friends and you can access them there risk free. I have a few friends who rip pretty much every game they buy and add them to the list for us to access. Before anyone starts about piracy it's basically just gamesharing without the need to add accounts to each others Switch.
Breath of the Wilds trailer got me to buy my first Switch. Tears of the Kingdom trailer got me to cancel my pre order. I may eventually pick it up pre owned when/if I see it cheap.
@Davina_McCall I play a lot of MMO'S so all that is standard for an open world game. You don't need to buy everything but if I can pay to fast track some grind I'm going to take it.
@EliJapan but it doesn't give you a tactical advantage and you don't have to pay and can just play with the free cars.
@Davina_McCall from what I've seen this doesn't have loot boxes, just the option to buy cars and extra biomes just like literally every other Lego game. Skywalker Saga dlc costs more than the game and they deliberately locked favourite characters behind a pay wall- how is this different?
@sanderev how is it pay to win exactly? Its an open world racer similar to Forza Horizon so you will be able to unlock competitive vehicles in game if the PvP mode is toir bag. The Microtransactions simply lesson the grind and lets tou get what you want faster which suits me fine. I would 100% prefer to pay a few pound to get the car I want instead of wasting a few hours trying to unlock it in game.
I'm really looking forward to this, it's an online open world racer so will only last as long as the player base does anyway so I don't get why people are freaking out that it's download only. The pick up rate is going to be smaller for this on Switch than other systems so why waste resources making cartridges for them to just sit in stores.
Play it, enjoy it while you can and then move on. Not every game needs to last 20 years. As for Microtransactions every lego game is riddled with them and always have been, thats not something you can blame 2K for including so why the hate here?
Borderlands 2 if I can find a good team to play with, otherwise will likely be back on ESO - Just started a new class so I plenty to grind for ready for Necrom.
@Cia BotW allows all of what you stated at the expense of story, character development and progression. Nintendo seriously needs to release a new console, I can't believe they can't get this to run at 60fps given the lower resolution than other versions.

God of War Ragnarok to scratch that "traditional Zelda" itch.

You can climb or swim anywhere but there's no point as there isn't anything to discover and it usually takes a large amount of effort (managing stamina and breakable weapons all hamper the experience) with little pay off. Spend 30 mins traversing a mountain to get to the top and there isn't a single thing up there apart from a pointless Korok seed.
It's effectively a Ubisoft map with way fewer missions and points of interest with some cool abilities that get stale quickly. What's the point in having multiple ways of traversal when there's no destination. The same with the armour sets, the are all pretty much pointless (yes I did get them all) as there are more effective ways to get the buffs. Just grind rupees and you can buy enough mats to craft 100's of elixirs.
