Nintendo has really dug itself into a corner with MK8. Unless they radically alter the gameplay, how can they justify charging for a full priced sequel instead of just releasing more tracks/characters as DLC?
Previous games always had a significant power boost between systems. However, from what the rumours seem to be saying is that the "Switch 2" won't be that much more powerful. If the new system also includes backwards compatibility why would we even need a MK9, which would also significantly split the user base between 8 with all of the added tracks and 9 which just comes with the base tracks.
@sixrings because apart from this game, Nintendo has nothing else going on at the moment and no big AAA games/news in the pipeline. News sites have to flog TotK or they wouldn't have anything else to talk about.
@RPGreg2600 I'm not saying that it's a bad thing or that adults can't enjoy it. My wife and I love Bluey (an animated show about a family of dogs), however, that doesn't change the fact that it's targeted at a younger audience. The same can be said about Nintendo games, they have simplistic mechanics and focus on fun over challenge.
I probably spend too much time gaming (I suffer chronic insomnia so can get 8 or 10 hours in playing games while my wife is sleeping) which means I get bored of Nintendo games fairly quickly - they seem to be all style.and no substance.
@Banksie not sure if that was an insult or a complement but grounded is genuinely great. It's basically a "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" sandbox game. I still go back to extend my builds even though I have 100% it. Zelda is OK but as someone else anove pointed out, it's a kids game and I suppose I've grown out of it. Either that or I can't overlook the things it should do but doesn't.
@Jalex__64 I fully agree, but there's no reason to do so. The equipment you start with is durable enough to see you through the game, I never levelled a single thing up in BotW and was able to kill everything. The more experienced you are at playing the less you need to level gear up. Learn to perfect parry/dodge and you can kill everything easily and you get hearts/stamina by doing the shrines if you need to tank a hit or 2. There is 0 need to grind anything, by the time you open the map and found your minigane of choice you can earn crazy rupees. That's what makes the blood moon so annoying, you can't even clear out mobs from an area to claim it back, it would have made capturing the towers so much more fun than just another boring climb or ferxh quest
@ZimmerRemmiz @Phyzzi It's why I stopped caring about taking out mobs, between the loot being useless and the enemies respawning I couldn't find much purpose in it. You can buy all the mats you would get so just found ways to grind rupees.
@maulinks @J-Biz I don't really want to build a whole town everytime the moon has a freak out, even if I can just auto build each house. It kills the fun factor and negates the point of building large scale.
I would have preferred that the builds didn't disappear. It really killed my motivation after I spent ages building a shanti town (took ages carrying the walls from various places) and all my work was undone during a blood moon. I will blast through to the credits and go back to Grounded which does the building found in TotK but better in every way.
@LikelySatan That is exactly what is happening in the thread. People ripping Lego 2k apart for the mtx in a full priced game whilst they openly defend Nintendo who are guilty of the exact same practice. Now, all this talk of Sheeple has me in the mood for some Tom Macdonald. Peace and enjoy your Sat dude.
Nintendo not wanting people to emulate their game libraries and the games have better performance than on the native hardware. They are starting to get super petty with these DMCA's
Might play a bit more TotK (although I'm starting to get bored with it) or Xbox has got a warhammer sale on so might finally bite the bullet and get 40k Inquisitor
@Arawn93 I actually enjoyed Forspoken, it reminded me a lot of BotW where there was very little story but loads of cool powers you could mess around with in an open world setting. Did I eventually get bored, yep. But I also got bored of the Switch Zeldas for the same reason.
@5th313ment yeah, all the best TotK cosmetics are locked behind an Amiibo paywall (£13 each and no way to get them if you dont want the toy) and most of the MK booster pack levels are lifted from either previous games or the mobile version I don't think they have bothered making any new ones for Switch - just coasting on thier back catalogue whilst charging for the privilege.
I probably notice it more as a multi console gamer both MS and Sony give access to your last gen library with a lot of titles getting current gen upgrades/boosts at no extra cost. Nintendo on the other hand doesn't give anything away for free, even NSO is miles behind the competition in terms of rhe freebies you get each month..
It amazes me how people blindly stick up for such a greedy corporation, they are the epitome of capitalism - don't think for yourselves, just consume the product continuously.
@lighteningbolt79 They are forcing people who bought it on the Wii-U to buy it again if they want to continue playing online. They shut the servers for the Wii-U version and never restored them after the security breach.
Can't be bothered replying to the Nintendrones. They are a mega corporation that prey on thier fan base, Those of us who supported them through the Wii-U gen got mega shafted by the Switch lacking backwards compatibility. Christmas, half of thier business plan is how to sell the same games to us time and again. I'm going to laugh so hard when the next system isn't backwards compatible.
People are here moaning about Mtx in a lego game whilst ignoring the Microtransactions in Nintendo games. How many new tracks did we get in MK8D on the switch exactly? TotK MTX will set you back over £100 if you want all of the cosmetics that aren't available to earn in game.
@sanderev Nintendo are the Kings of predatory monetisation, how many times have they sold us the same games over the years?
Mario Kart (a 9 year old game)costs £75 for the game and season pass, and non of the content is original to the Switch. Its 100% ported from other systems yet people froth over it. I've never understood why Nintendo aren't held to the same standards as other developers/publishers.
Seems weird this was marked down for Blurry visuals when they actually look crisper than TotK which also has aggressive monetisation, £13 per glider skin!!!! At least in Lego 2K you can grind for the extra content and nothing is fully locked behind a paywall. I suppose faults like these only get overlooked when it's a Nintendo first party game.
This seems pretty pointless considering that you can do the exact thing already with your phone and a razor kishi. I have my tablet linked to the PS5 and a conteoller so that I can play it in bed.
I just picked up Splatoon 3 yesterday but now I wish I had waited for this.
PlayStation has all of the online QoL missing from the Switch (basic things like party chat etc). Whenever I play Switch games online, I'm reminded how far behind the competition Nintendo have become.
@anoyonmus there wasn't on game when I went to pre order and Its still not showing for some reason. Just noticed that the Switch version for base game is £5 cheaper than the consoles so I wouldn't be surprised if its either code in the box or comes with a 1gb card to keep costs down and everything else is a mandatory download.
@anoyonmus the Kollectors edition isn't available for Switch in Game or on Amazon. Haven't bothered looking any further as I will get it on console instead of handheld.
@Ensemen so why are Disney struggling with thier recognisable brands? I think Star Wars and Marvel are just as recognisable as Mario One of the reasons Nintendo does so well as a company is because here's no forced diversity or inclusion in any of their IP's. Because of that the products feel complete, there's no need to change Peach black or make Toad trans Japanese companies don't pander to western fads and the characters retain thier charm and nostalgia appeal.
@mereel MK1 doesn't have a Premium or Kollectors edition up for pre-order on Switch, so it's already getting left behind on the handheld before it's even released.
@Hydra_Spectre she has publicly funded animal abuse whilst actively dismissing the original story. At this point they should have just created an original story and characters set in the "Ariel Universe" to sell the message. Eradicating history means we are likely to repeat it. Segregation is already being implemented here in the UK and it only took 80 years to resurface after it had been abolished.
It's because the movie catered to its fanbase without lecturing or changing out the race/gender of the main cast. Let's see how the Little Mermaid does at the box office by comparison.
We need a gamepass equivalent on Switch to play games like this.
I'm sick of Nintendo being super tight and charging us for games we have all played multiple times, when there is a massive Switch back catalogue that could be included on the NSO sub.
@Devann they are exactly the same excluding some plastic tat.
I would rather Nintendo offer digital mtx than locking the stuff behind a plastic paywall and damaging the environment further with more plastic and shipping.
I really want that major's mask glider, but I can't get it unless I either pirate the content via a NFC chip or pay Nintendo £12.99 for some plastic tat I don't want. Whereas I can buy the 2k Drive season pass for £8.99 and the starter bundle for £4.49.
Keep defending Nintendo's scummy mtx practises but it's no different to what is offered in Lego 2k, in fact its actually cheaper for much more content.
@Devann I care about glider fabric as they look awesome. I hate the stupid toys and the ones I bought with metroid dread are in a drawer as I don't know what else to do with them, they aren't big enough or good enough quality for display
I lfind it strange how a lot of the people here are moaning about the Microtransactions in this game, yet said nothing about Nintendo locking the glider cosmetics behind an amiibo pay wall.
How much would it cost If I wanted the full tears of the kingdom experience? 26 Amiibo at £13 each plus £60 for the game is just shy of £400. Not to mention the environmental impact of producing and shipping the plastic tat that the DLC is locked behind.
I'm really looking forward to this although Iwill likely get it on a console rather than the Switch (which does have crossplatform play.)
For anyone moaning about the price its only £25 on CD keys at the moment.
Always a shame to hear about people getting laid off but I always found the games from this company to be way overpriced and heavily relied on the same gimmick
@Gracetrack But non of those are memorable "Zelda" moments and could easily have come from any open world game. Most of the ones you highlighted reminds me of my time playing ESO.
There is no feeling of progression in BotW or TotK compared with okder entries in the series, you get all of the needed tools in the few minutes of the game and the rest of the "game" is opening towers and random NPC fetch quests (like every ubisoft open world game to date).
For me the joy in Zelda games has always been getting a new Item and then figuring out how to use it to beat the dungeon and subsequent boss.
@Jokerwolf it was super easy, barely an inconvenience to farm rupees in BotW. Just stand in a certain spot for the snowball bowling and you get a strike every time.

Might give this a shot depending on price, love a good horror game.
It seems strange we haven't gotten a Manhunt remake given the recent popularity in this era for survival horror reboots. That's a game I would love to play on a modern system.
@TheWahfatha @Deemo37 thanks both, might check out the discord before I drop any money on the game.
This is one of the reasons I love multiplayer gaming on Xbox, you can scroll through the LFG in the games club and join in on a 420 lobby. Nothing worse than being the only one baked in a party full of straight heads or drunks - both sides get super frustrated and it just kills any enjoyment.
@Deemo37 amazing stuff, are there many adult gamers in the discord and is it 420 friendly?
Would be looking for a permanent team to smash online with if I picked the game up.
I keep looking at this, especially as it's pretty cheap nowadays. It put me off not having any form of LFG system in place and having to rely on external apps. How easy is it to find a team on Discord? Couldn't imagine playing a team based shooter with randoms and no voice chat, hated that in the second game and it put me off picking this up.
@Zeroo these are definitely not what Zelda aspired to be, they are Nintendo's taken on the ubisoft formula whilst layering in an existing IP to minimise the risk. If you remove the characters what do these have in common with the old Zelda games? Absolutely nothing.
On the plus side, the void has left room for Sony to pick up the mantle. The reboot of God of War and Ragnarok follow the more traditional Zelda formula but in a more open world environment and showcase what could have been.
I wish they would bring back the old format, there was no need to tag Zelda onto this franchise, it could have easily been a new IP with new characters without detracting from the experience and leaving a beloved series alone.
It would be like Nintendo making a first person shooter and forcing Mario into as they didn't think it had the power to stand up on its own - oh wait, isn't that what they have done with pretty much every sports game already.
