Re: Poll: Six Years On, Which Was Nintendo Switch's Best Year So Far?

CazSonOfCaz

I voted 2023 because:

1. Metroid Prime Remastered is one of the best games on Switch.

2. I predict Tears of the Kingdom will be one of the best games on Switch.

3. I hope Metroid Prime Remastered's release is a sign that Metroid Prime 4 will be out by Christmas and that it, too, will be one of the best games on Switch.

Other than that, yeah, 2017 it is.

Star Fox 64 3D on the 3DS still holds up. Playing that in 3D is mesmerizing!

Also, for anyone who needs a Star Fox fix and uses the NA eShop, "Starlink: Battle For Atlas" is currently only $12 (that's 80% off!). It's an Ubisoft game, but the Switch version features exclusive Star Fox characters and missions. The game's actually pretty fun. It's kinda like Star Fox crossed with No Man's Sky.

@Otoemetry - No way, man. Steam Deck was a shot across the bow. It made Nintendo stop and think.

Here was a system that could not only play all the indie titles that are on Switch, but AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Spider-Man. And it could do it at a level a little higher than a PS4 for almost the same price as a Switch, which is basically Wii/PS3 tech.

It made Nintendo look bad and revealed just how greedy they are for the degree to which they choose to maximize profits.

@YoshiF2
1. There have have almost always been some sci-fi elements in Zelda, such as the Beamos and Armos enemies which go back to "A Link to the Past." They're very sci-fi like in Skyward Sword, not to mention the Sentrobe and Technogoblins. It's pretty much always been there, whether you like it or not.

2. And aliens in Indiana Jones wasn't the problem with the movie. If totally fits with George Lucas's interests. The original Indy movies took place in the 30s and they were an homage to the 1930s adventure serials that George grew up watching. Crystal Skull took place in the 50s. Adventure serials weren't big in the 50s, but alien invasion movies, like War of the Worlds, were, so they were riffing on that along with the Soviet paranoia.

Besides, if you're at all familiar with the so-called "Ancient Alien" theory so popularized on the "History" channel, it's easy to see how it could fit.

No, the problem with Crystal Skull was not the idea or concept, but the execution. The problem was poor plotting and writing, poor characterization and dialogue, the mis-casting of Shia LaBoof, and the horrible and corny digital effects like digital ants and Shia LaBoof swinging through trees.

@HolyGeez03 - I don't think the Switch Pro never happened due to COVID (Although, that probably had some impact).

I think it never happened because the Steam Deck was announced and would have embarrassed them with how underpowered the so-called Switch Pro still was.

Remember the Steam Deck was announced right around the time there were heavy rumblings from Bloomberg and others that a Switch Pro announcement was imminent.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Temporarily Listed On Nintendo Website For $70 USD

CazSonOfCaz

Is this game going to slow to a crawl below 10 frames-per-second every time I enter the Korok Forest just like in Breath of the Wild?

It's 2023, if Nintendo wants to up their prices the LEAST they could do is up their damn hardware as well, so that their game doesn't slow down to an unplayable state.

But, nah, they'll just pocket that money instead of actually improving their product.

Re: Nintendo Wins "Switch Joy-Con Drift" Class Action Lawsuit

CazSonOfCaz

@WizardJ - Yes. Yes, I am. No other peripheral has such a notorious problem with drift. This is a problem that could be solved with a serious investment in R&D. But Nintendo will never do that. Right now it's "Good Enough," and so they'd rather just pocket that money, because they have no integrity, which has been proven over and over.

Re: Video: One Month In, What Are Your Predictions For The Switch's 2023?

CazSonOfCaz

There will be a February Direct in which they announce the Special Edition stuff for "Tears of the Kingdom" and start taking preorders, including the eShop (you currently can't pre-order the digital version on the eShop).

It has to be in February, because March is going to be when they start promoting the Mario movie in earnest, since it comes out in late March/early April.

In late April, early May they will have a "Direct" solely focused on "Tears of the Kingdom" before its May 12 release.

Since they have already said they're not doing E3, they must have something big planned which they'll announce on their own. This will be either the Switch Pro or Metroid Prime 4 (or both) to be released at Christmas time.

Somewhere in there they will announce a new Mario game to ride the wave of movie-hype. Or, at least they would if they were run by sane people. But this is Nintendo.

You heard it here first. I can speculate and make stuff up as well as anyone. Hire me.

Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Says He Prefers To Buy Video Games Digitally

CazSonOfCaz

He forgot the biggest Pro to digital: You don't need to get up and fumble around looking for a cartridge/CD every time you want to play a different game. As a PC Gamer I got spoiled on that decades ago.

Years ago when I got a PS4 I learned real fast that I hated having to get up every time to change the disc when I wanted to switch games. On PC I could just click on the icon for whatever game I wanted and away I went. I made the switch to digital for console then and I never looked back.

Re: Feature: Our Gaming Predictions For 2023

CazSonOfCaz

I've seen a number of people say to not expect a new Mario game in the near future. The thing these people forget is that there is a major Super Mario movie coming to theaters in March/April. Do you really expect Nintendo to leave all that money on the table?

Millions of families are going to walk out of the theater thinking, "Wow! I really enjoyed that Mario movie. I wonder if there's any way to continue this excitement and keep this Mario train rolling..." You really think Nintendo won't have something new available and ready to capitalize on that interest? They'd be certifiably insane not to.

Even Sony and Naughty Dog went ahead and remade "The Last of Us Part 1," when they didn't really need to, just to capitalize on the interest generated from the HBO show. Do you really think Nintendo has nothing new for Mario in store?

You heard it here first. In the February Direct Nintendo will announce updated Switch hardware (Switch Pro, Super Switch, whatever) to be released in May along with the new Zelda and a new Mario game.

And Digital Foundry was right. There were plans for an updated Switch. What Digital Foundry couldn't figure out is why the plans were scrapped. They were scrapped because Nintendo got wind of the Steam Deck and wanted to see what it was capable of. Now that they had actual competition, they had to go back to the drawing board and adjust their plans.

Re: Random: Perfect Dark's Vision Of 2023 Is Quite Different To The Real Deal

CazSonOfCaz

Back in the day video game prices weren't a flat rate, but could vary based on how much they cost to produce plus how many they think they'd sell.

For example, a popular platformer like "Super Mario 3" or "Sonic the Hedgehog" would typically be around $49.99, but a big, epic RPG (that wouldn't sell nearly as many copies) such as "Phantasy Star 3" was usually around $79.99.

Re: Konami Supposedly Has Multiple Unannounced Projects In The Works

CazSonOfCaz

@Kyloctopus Well, yeah, I'd say that's well deserved. They chased away their best devs and trashed their best franchises just to chase the pachinko money. That's just as bad as how EA ruined once great companies like Origin and no one lets EA forget that. You can't give Konami a pass with things you would probably pillory EA for.

Re: Nintendo Says It Won't Raise Switch Prices, But Will Continue To Monitor The Situation

CazSonOfCaz

@InJeffable

Persona is a slow paced game with turn-based combat. Try playing Hyrule Warriors (try playing with a friend, in fact) and watch how things slow to a crawl when things heat up. The game becomes genuinely unplayable with friends.

Heck, just try walking into the Korok Forest in Breath of the Wild, a flagship 1st party game, and watch as everything drops to 5 frames per second. Even Link's Awakening had slowdown issues.

The Switch is clearly in need of an upgrade. This is clear to anyone who plays faster paced games. The people who say otherwise must only be playing Stardew Valley or Mario Party and so can't see what's plain as day for the rest of us.
