Re: Random: Oh No, The Internet Thinks Chris Pratt As Mario Sounds Like Linda From Bob's Burgers

CazSonOfCaz

@nymbosox That's not true at all. In the late 80s/early 90s Mario was voiced by Captain Lou Albano for the Super Mario Bros Super Show (you can look it up on YouTube). To us old school fans, THAT is the real Mario voice, not that ridiculous, squeaky, Mickey Mouse voice from Martinet.

Martinet's voice is the worst thing that ever happened to Mario and it's a tragedy that there's an entire generation that knows nothing else (and that generation thinks that anything before breakfast is ancient history). Oh, how I weep for the world.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Mario's Movie Voice?

CazSonOfCaz

Way better than that obnoxious and annoying squeaky "Mickey Mouse" Martinet voice. God, I hate that sound. I always turn down the volume when I start Mario Kart 8 when he screeches "Mario Kaaaarrrt Eiiiiiiiiiiigggghhhhhhtttttt!" Good God, that sound makes me want to punch a baby.

The gruff voice (with slight New York accent) of Captain Lou Albano is the REAL Mario voice. Thankfully, Chris Pratt is going in that direction.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Teaser Trailer Is Finally Here

CazSonOfCaz

I kinda liked how Chris Pratt's voice brings it back to the REAL Mario's voice. Not that new-fangled, ridiculous "Mickey Mouse" inspired voice from Martinet that all the kids love these days. Back in MY day, Mario sounded like a real Italian plumber. There's only one, true Mario and it's Captain Lou Albano.

Now, excuse me while I go yell at some clouds.

Re: Nvidia Employee Comment Confirms Chip Rumoured To Be Used In 'Switch Pro' Is Real

CazSonOfCaz

@Savage_Joe I suppose that’s true. From everything I’ve heard IPS is still better for color accuracy though. Note I said “accuracy.”

OLEDs may appear more vibrant and that’s great for a consumer (like bass boost in headphones), but not great for people actually creating things.

For Digital artists and designers working in Photoshop and the like color accuracy is more important and for that reason still use IPS panels. They’re also less prone to burn in.

Re: Nvidia Employee Comment Confirms Chip Rumoured To Be Used In 'Switch Pro' Is Real

CazSonOfCaz

@sixrings A Switch 2 is ABSOLUTELY needed for people like me. I would like to be able to play Hyrule Warriors with a friend without having the game slow to a crawl and become unplayable.

I would like to be able to play Breath of the Wild and go into the Korok Forest without it dropping to 5 frames per second and feel like I'm moving in molasses.

These aren't obscure games, by any means. Breath of the Wild is a 1st party game and a flagship title for Nintendo and it runs like garbage if there's too much going on at once.

I'm sure the current Switch is fine for people that only play Stardew Valley or Tetris, but have some empathy for those of us that play games you clearly don't.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Breakdown - Theories And Speculation

CazSonOfCaz

I knew it! The snakes facing each other prove it! Thulsa Doom as the villain confirmed!

"Crom, where is the wizard who killed my mother?
Still, I can recall his terrible gaze.
Crom, where are the two snakes facing each other?
Crom, if you’re my god then show me the way."

BTW, if you haven't seen "Conan the Barbarian: The Musical," then enjoy:

Re: Uh-Oh, Splatoon 3 Appears To Have Leaked Online Ahead Of Its Release

CazSonOfCaz

This may be a dumb question, but since I don't bother to emulate Switch games on PC I don't know exactly how it works. I know there's a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous. A lotta strands to keep in your head, man.

Anyway, my question is this: if you use an emulator to play Splatoon 3 on PC, can those people then play multiplayer with the Switch players (once the servers are live, obviously)? If so, that sounds like it will be really annoying for legit players.

Re: Random: Voice Of Zelda In CD-i Games Would Love To Return To The Role

CazSonOfCaz

@ZZalapski Unlike writing "peaked" when you mean "piqued," there's nothing actually wrong with two spaces after a period. In fact, that was the way people were taught for generations. Only in the last two decades has it changed. Whereas "piqued" and "peaked" were always two different words.

I'm guessing you somehow think the Oxford comma is bad, too?

Re: Poll: What's The Worst Legend Of Zelda Game?

CazSonOfCaz

How could you forget "Link: The Faces of Evil," "Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon," and "Zelda's Adventure" all released for Philips' CD-i? The poll is not complete without them, especially since they might actually be the worst Zelda games of all time.

Re: Charles Martinet Wants To Voice Mario For As Long As He Possibly Can

CazSonOfCaz

For people of a certain age Mario will always be Captain Lou Albano. Look up "The Super Mario Brothers Super Show" if you don't know what I'm talking about. It was a cartoon show from the late 80s/early 90s that had Mario cartoons from Monday to Thursday and a Zelda cartoon on Fridays. To me, THAT is Mario's voice, NOT that squeaky Mickey Mouse sounding nonsense.

Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?

CazSonOfCaz

It all depends on the game. Red Dead Redemption 2 needs 50-60+ hours at least, whereas my main complaint about The Last of Us 2 is that it's way too long. They could have easily cut a third of that game. It should have been around 20 hours like part 1.

Metroid Dread is about right. I think they could have added a little bit more, maybe another location or two, but it's not so short that I would complain. I'm not one of those that obsesses over one game at a time, though. I'm usually playing at least 5 or 6 different games at any time, so I'm glad Metroid Dread isn't super long. I'm currently working through Metroid Dread, Super Mario 3D World, Castlevania Advance Collection, Far Cry 6, Horizon Zero Dawn, Sable, and I also play Battlefield, Call of Duty, Insurgency: Sandstorm, and Hell Let Loose pretty regularly.

Re: Nintendo 'Blockbuster' Sale Discounts Hundreds Of Switch Games (Europe)

CazSonOfCaz

@jsty3105 When did I say those games weren't my cup of tea? I play everything from BoTW to Tetris to Kentucky Route Zero to Red Dead Redemption 2 to Battlefield. How else would I know they were half-baked unless I bought them? Me calling them "half-baked" has to do with their lack of polish and/or content, not the quality of their mechanics.

And there's definitely a cult-like attitude around here. I've known at least 3 people that have joined honest-to-god cults, so I can recognize the behavior (one was a well-known religious cult based in Florida and California and the other was a well-known political cult. I won't mention the names of the organizations for obvious reasons). It's not just Nintendo, though. Sony fanatics are equally delusional, as are the "PC Master-Race" nutbags.

Re: Nintendo 'Blockbuster' Sale Discounts Hundreds Of Switch Games (Europe)

CazSonOfCaz

@Ainze - "By keeping the prices where they are, Nintendo can ensure they have the money to give us quality"

Then explain Mario Golf, Mario Party, and other half-baked releases from Nintendo. Not to mention charging $60 for 10+ year old games. As someone who plays on PC, PlayStation, and XBox, as well as Switch, I can confidently say the tremendous sales I've got from other publishers have not diminished their quality in the slightest.

I'm also not prone to joining cults. As I said, I use all the platforms, so I'm not one to engage in "console war" nonsense, which is what defending Nintendo falls under in this instance.

Re: Unavailability Of Classic Titles Is "Holding Game Culture Back", Says Platinum's Hideki Kamiya

CazSonOfCaz

@Purgatorium The history of art is the history of the world, going all the way back to Ancient Egypt or Sumer or even earlier to the cave paintings at Lascaux. We have these cultural touchstones in order to understand the world we live in. Imagine being unable to teach someone about Shakespeare or Beethoven, or even Alfred Hitchcock, because their work was simply and completely inaccessible. That's what companies like Nintendo are doing. It's Nintendo that is removing themselves from the cultural conversation. They have decided to not be available and so should not be considered when we discuss what is actually culturally important or relevant.

Let me put it another way. Imagine that I’m talking to someone about some side-scrolling platformer I’m really into, like "Hollow Knight" or "Dead Cells" or something, and I’m going on and on about stuff I like about the games. The person I’m talking to responds with, “well in 'Metroid Fusion' you could blah, blah, blah this, that, and the other.” It would have no meaning for me, because there is no way for me to go and try the game to see what they’re talking about.

Contrast this with a lot of PC Games. I could be telling someone about "Ultima 6," "The Secret of Monkey Island," the original "Fallout," or "System Shock," and they can actually go and buy the damn games and play them to see what I’m talking about.

So, you may have some great memories of old Nintendo Games, but if people can’t experience them now then they are irrelevant to any conversation. They might as well not exist.

Re: Unavailability Of Classic Titles Is "Holding Game Culture Back", Says Platinum's Hideki Kamiya

CazSonOfCaz

@Chibi Actually, they do have a right to access because games are now culture. If games want to be taken seriously as culture and art, then they need to be available, just as the works of Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Dostoyevsky, Chopin, the Beatles, Mark Twain, etc. are available. No one is asking for freebies. I will happily pay for this stuff. All people are asking for is ACCESS to these games. A lot of PC Game companies do this as you can find tons of old Origin, Sierra, Interplay, Microprose, and LucasArts games on GOG.com, so there is a precedent.

If a company keeps this stuff locked away in a vault, then they should not be allowed to be considered art or part of culture, and that includes Nintendo.

Re: Digital Foundry Explores The Potential Of 4K DLSS On A Next-Gen Switch

CazSonOfCaz

@DK-Fan you said, "Why you just can't enjoy the current switch?"

Why can't I? Because the Switch already can't decently run a lot of the games I want to play. "Link's Awakening" and "Mario 3D World" have constant annoying slowdowns and "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity" is often brought to a crawl when it gets intense. "Breath of the Wild," which came out years ago, has massive slowdown in the Korok Forest. These aren't weird indie games. These are FIRST PARTY NINTENDO GAMES (with the exception of Hyrule Warriors, but they are using Nintendo assets) and they do NOT run well.

The current Switch can't even handle it's own games. THAT'S why I can't enjoy the current Switch and would like an upgraded model.
