Hopefully that advancement is getting momentum physics to work in 3D. Sonic with no momentum physics is like Mario with no power-ups or Crash in an open world, yet it's somehow been the series' standard since 1998...

I have my reservations about WayForward (their approach to character design and "comedy" specifically) but they're perfect fits for this kind of project. I've always considered DuckTales Remastered the gold standard for remakes of 2D games.

Konami Licensed B'mups collection - the Turtles duology, Bucky O'Hare, Moo Mesa, Simpsons, Asterix, Batman Returns, and X-Men. It'd be licensing hell but worth it 100%.

@xxx128 A game that did an authentic warts-and-all PS1 aesthetic really well was Yo! Noid 2 - it's a meme game about the Noid fighting Hatsune Miku's dad, but it's a really good meme game and one of the most accurate representations of a bygone era of graphics I've ever seen in general.

I can see the 90s and 2000s Frogger influence from a mile away. Gotta show support to linear 3D platformers, they've been hard to come by since the moment Mario 64 came out.

I have no clue why Mario 64 became the standard for the genre and not the IMO much superior Crash Bandicoot.

I personally enjoy 1 the best of the trilogy because it has a more even balance between fast and slow sections - but all 3 games are absolute classics and some of the finest 2D platformers ever made.

I often forget Nintendo own the Cruis'n series. The lack of Spirits in SSBU probably contributed to my misconception somewhat.
