We've seen our fair share of Pokémon clones over the past few years, and at Indie Live Expo 2021 there was a new creature collecting game announced.
Palworld has the collecting aspects of Pokémon and you can even fight and breed "Pal". Beyond this, it's a bit wild. In this multiplayer open-world survival crafting game, you can get your "Pal" to farm, work in factories, you can sell them off and even slaughter them to eat...
"You can make Pals fight, breed, help with farming, or work in factories. You can also sell them off or even slaughter them to eat! That however, is forbidden by law."
"This world is full of dangers such as food shortages, harsh weather, and illegal poachers."
You'll even get into firefights with some serious weapons, and use your "Pal" to help you out in the heat of the battle. Here's a look, courtesy of Gematsu:
The game itself is being developed by the studio behind Craftopia (Pocket Pair) and is scheduled to be released in 2022. Right now, it's only been confirmed for Steam, but if we hear anything about a possible Nintendo release (assuming Nintendo allow something like this), we'll be sure to let you know.
What are your first impressions of this game? Would you like to see it on the Nintendo Switch? Leave a comment down below.

The second half of the trailer breaks my heart💔
Something like this would've been really counter-cultural and ground-breaking in 1998. Nowadays we've heard every single "Pokémon is dogfighting" and "Pokémon meat" joke so it's just boring.
Unrelated, but it's wierd how the monster collecting genre entirely lives in the shadow of Pokémon, and any new game is compared to it. It'd be like describing Sonic as 'Like Mario but you play as animals' rather than just '2D platformer'
I get why, but I still find it wierd, and it's a trend on this site to compare indie games to any Nintendo game.
I went in already trying to dismiss it but then I saw;
1. Better monster and character designs than Pokemon
2. Use of guns and fir fights
3. Monster Slave labor
4. Using a sheep as a shield while you shoot at your enemies.
Already looking better than Sword and Shield in all aspects.
Omg that game looks really cool!
This looks kinda cool actually. I’d give it a spin if it comes to Switch
@Noid
True, it's a very old, overused joke
But I don't think that joke has ever been realized so... clearly in what seems to be a game with actual quality to it
Based on the trailer, it's really like they took all those old Pokemon jokes and made a legitimate game out of it lol
I'm not sure if it's deliberate, given the other tired parodies and jokes, but the monster designs are so reductive of actual Pokemon designs, not a single one didn't look like a cheap knock off of an existing Pokemon or two existing ones combined. More so than any other monster collecting game I've seen before.
It looks quite bizarre. I don't hate it.
I thought SMT had already been Pokemon with guns long before we ever had Pokemon WITHOUT guns, but okay.
The premise sounds like a dark parody that, once released, makes you wonder what actually took it so long to happen.
@Chamver wooloos of Galar want to know your location.
Why they always have to copy the Pokemon style when it comes to the creatures!?!? Originality is truly a thing of the past with these games.
At first I watched the trailer just for amusement on another Pokémon knockoff...
But this looks pretty legit and I’m down.
To be honest, I’d be more interested in the game without the guns and Grimdark elements. It looks like they have a beautiful and interesting world, similar to Pokemon, yes, but with a more free feel to it and building and crafting, but the slave labour looks like a poor joke and the gun combat, with real world weapons, looks like a cheap cop out of trying to build a real time combat system and weapons that would really fit in the world they created. The assault rifles, slave labour, and wanton slaughter just don’t fit the aesthetic of the world, and seem more for shock value.
So it is essentially the Pokemon front lines! But they let rogues even be soldiers. I love it, and would already be trying to buy it if it wasn't an MMO. Neat though.
Is this what Peta sees in pokemon
I like the look of this innovation.
This is one of the most bizarre trailers I have ever seen. I just don't know how I am supposed to feel. It seems like an asset flip, based on the design elements but a strangely (at least judging from the trailer) high effort asset flip.
Can’t wait to see the PETA picket lines for this...
This looks ridiculous in all the best ways. That sheep meat shield had me in stitches, what a concept!
NINJA APPROVED
They lost me with the whole gun concept but whatever, not my cup of tea
@acNewUpdates Well, did you see the creatures in the video? They are straight rip-offs of Pokémon. Monster Hunter Stories is a monster breeder but looks nothing like Pokémon, but this is just...
I feel like the second picture is predicting the future of the United States under control of Communist China rule.
It's sad how people compare any monster collecting game to pokemon, then are quick to say it's "Better". Can't these games stand on their own, as their own thing, instead of being labeled a "pokemon killer"? I wish people would straight up just stop. It's hurting these games more than helping them honestly.
@SoapMonkey These look nothing like pokemon.
@VoidofLight Fair point.
It looks like some kind of parody from an adult animated show.
@acNewUpdates I feel the same way when people (and this website) compare Immortal: Phoenix Rising and say it's a BOTW clone when they're both open-word adventure games along like Skyrim.
...Yeeeaaah I'll just stick with Monster Hunter Stories. lol
Sounds like trying too hard to be edgy and dark. Not for me.
It's like a Pokemon game but made in the United States
Love the concept. I'd get it, honestly. And I dont even like games with guns. This would definitely scratch the real world pokemon itch.
@BoostPower
I am laughing inexplicably aloud right now.
@VoidofLight Just looking at the video's thumbnail, they directly ripped off the Pokemon designs of Fennekin, Wooloo, Reshiram, Lilligant, Lycanroc, and Sawsbuck.
This trailer is a journey. Blatantly ripping off BoTW, HZD, Pokemon, Bowser, and probably a lot more I didn't even notice. Pokemon being used as bullet shields, pokemon enslaved in a gun factory. It's insane. I legit want to play this.
@JayronAuron These look nothing like those pokemon. Apparently a sheep, a wolf, and a fox equal to stealing or ripping off a pokemon though.
@VoidofLight The wolf is straight Lycanroc bro
@BlueyLewis It’s literally just a wolf. Looks nothing like Lycanroc. The sheep is also round, but so many other games have round sheep.
Disturbing.. Who’s the target audience?
@DaniPooo Apparently me because this looks hilarious.
I will now buy your game.
What the heck? That poor sheep! Those poor penguins!
