Update: Tag Heuer has now unveiled its the Tag Heuer Connected x Super Mario watch, a limited-edition piece that'll cost a staggering, if unsurprising, $2,150.
The new release is actually a special edition of the Tag Heuer Connected, a digital watch that uses Android's Wear OS tech (thanks, VGC). Over on the Tag Heuer website, visitors are taken on a tour of the watch's features, which include special animations that change as you meet certain activity milestones, different watch faces, and access to all of Google Suite's widgets such as Calendar, Emails and more.
On Instagram, Tag Heuer explains how you can get your hands on one:
Unveiling our newest collaboration that’s sure to bring both the watchmaking and gaming worlds in new territories! Nintendo’s iconic character, Mario, is taking over the TAG Heuer Connected with a new limited edition timepiece in a daring, creative style.
Available for purchase on July 15th, dropping at the right moment for you: Japan 10 AM - Local Time, Europe 10 AM - Geneva Time, USA 10 AM - Washington Time. And 2 hours before for the priority subscribers.
The Tag Heuer Connected x Super Mario watch will be limited to 2000 units, going on sale exclusively at select ‘super boutique’ locations and the Tag Heuer website from 15th July.
Original Article (Fri 9th Jul, 2021 11:00 BST): Luxury watchmaker and fashion accessory brand Tag Heuer has teased a new and surprising collaboration with none other than Super Mario.
Very little has been revealed about the collab so far, but what we do know is that an exclusive limited-edition product is set to go up for early access next week. You can register on Tag Heuer's website to gain access to this early listing if you wish; the page features a countdown to the big reveal, alongside an image of the Mario case shown above.

Game and watch? I'm watching.
Tag Hauer? I don’t think this will be in my budget
Personally I can't comprehend why people would spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on a watch, but cool.
That teaser video looks like it could give someone a seizure. I actually felt a slight headache when I watched it and I'm not normally sensitive to that stuff.
@TheAwesomeBowser These same people probably can't understand why someone would pay thousands for a gaming PC. Each to their own.
could do with a newer Tag, will keep an eye on this if it's tasteful.
@TheAwesomeBowser,
Tag watches are pretty reasonable to be honest £1500 gets you a pretty nice one and it lasts for years, my current one is over 15 years old, and still looks like new.
@blockfight Not to sound rude, but comparing a watch to a PC? Isn't that a little like comparing a skateboard to SUV?
Good quality Swiss watches are expensive, but they are not built for a few years like every other trash today, they are build for decades and almost centuries. As Patek Philippe says: They are not made for you, they are made for the next generations. Cheers from Switzerland.
Does it have Invicibility Star SFX ?
If it doesn't, i will choose Yokai Watch instead.
@Xeacons,
I think he was suggesting that value is very subjective, to some a watch at $2000 is a fortune, but the same people may not even bat an eyelid at spending a similar amount on a gaming P.C, or any other item they feel is of personal value to themselves.
My god, I think my eyes just melted watching that video
@Xeacons I'm not comparing the 2, I'm just saying some people spend money on things that others can't understand why they would do that. That's all.
@Xeacons one difference between a skateboard and an SUV- I’ve been able to flip my SUV
@Gerald Just imagine a Tag watch with an added "Nintendo tax". Amazing price!
Also, I am curious how big is the scalpers wallet to scalp this.
@blockfight Personally I can't really understand that either, but yeah.
@TheAwesomeBowser,
I can understand it, some on here rarely look at things from anybody else's point of view.
Ermmm have Tag picked the wrong 90s mascot here? Sonic would at least make some sense... but Mario is just random.
Is this Tag trying to appeal to younger audiences? If so, good luck with that... the issue is young people are not as materialistic as generations past. Which is just as well, because they also have a lot less disposable income !!
Tick tock Tag... time's almost up.
@johnvboy Meh, $1500 on a watch was cool 30 years ago. There's sooooo many things to blow money on today that a piece of wrist jewelry that's fairly useless in the modern era makes me really wonder how any high end watches exist. The real purpose is just status symbol/expected attire in certain professions to signal belonging (law, as the biggest example.) I love the idea of mechanical watches, but in a world where few even wear watches because everyone's phone, always on them, tells them the time, and Smart watches that do so much more are so much cheaper, it feels like something far out of time. If it weren't for lawyers and salesman that basically need them as part of the uniform, they'd be long gone. Plus, nothing quite says "mug me" like wearing over $1k on your arm.
Besides, if you're going to blow $1.5k+ on a chronometer, might as well put that into buying a Mario Game & Watch from the scalpers. Unlike the Tag that will break down in time and lose it's value, the G&W will appreciate
@NEStalgia,
@NEStalgia,
Don't agree, people will still buy nice watches, and in the scheme of things Tag's are not even all that expensive, even more when you consider how long they last.
I do not live on my mobile phone, in fact my work does not like us on them, so I use my watch all the time, but each to their own.
Get it you do not like it personally though, but you could say this about virtually anything you yourself do not see any value in.
Yea! I am in. Tag Heuer is quite a budget brand, so I guess new "Mario watch" will cost around 2000 USD. Not like Pikachu or Pokemon watch from Romain Jerome.
@johnvboy Now we know why you're such a Nintendo fan....you're a designer label fan! I thought that era ended in '08 (short of Apple?)
Plenty of great watches are nice and last a long time that aren't $1500 (I know we're not talking about $1M Rolex, but even $1500 is just designer premium.) I don't think the value of durability is much of a thing here compared to much lower costing and still nice watches. It's purely the designer fashion that drives the price, but designer fashion is so passe outside a certain niche now.
@NEStalgia,
I will not buy the Nintendo themed Tag, in fact my current one is fine, had it a long time.
To be honest I rarely buy anything designer label, but have always liked a nice quality watch.
@nocdaes SEIKO beat TAG to it , they just recently launched a Green Hill Sonic the Hedgehog watch Japan with a street date of August . It's a 1/20th Chronograph watch on Bracelet .And retails for $450usd ( £350 ) , Limited to 3000 pieces it's good value from one of the best watchmakers in the world. And last year or so SEIKO they launched six Automatic Seiko 5 Streetfighter Watches at a similar price point , but the Strettfighter ones where limited to 9'999 pieces for each of the six models And they look awesome
Seiko have previously done Mickey Mouse watches many years ago ... .
Why this collaboration? Easy enough, the Tokyo Olympics is next month, and Tag are usually the sponsored timekeeping.
Over £1,000 for the most basic Tag, although mine is still going strong after 20+ years (and I'm a clumsy person)
@johnvboy I've bought an IRS agent a few Tags this year....they're still keeping my money, indefinitely. "We haven't seen it, don't contact us, you can't get through anyway, so if we "lost it" you'll never know" . I consider it a large scale donation to help fund Communism. Next time I'm just sending it to the "I owe money, check enclosed" address. I have a feeling those don't get lost for quite so long....
@KITG_GROUP Seiko would have made more sense (Japanese) plus it might be more affordable.
@NEStalgia,
Do they know who they are dealing with.
@FredTheCat Omega did it first. They made 5 Speedmaster for the Olympics, for the five olympic rings. And some Seamaster.
I got myself the "Yellow ring". A true wonder !
@johnvboy I don't think they even know what they're dealing with, or really much of what they're doing at all, frankly.
Finally. Why did they wait so long?
@NEStalgia,
In the U.K it's the HRMC revenue and customs, which are just as useless to be honest.
@johnvboy I love how they cry about being understaffed and underfunded. They can literally take any money they want from anyone, at gunpoint, legally - and they do - and somehow they just haven't got enough money do do the basics of.....taking people's money....
@NEStalgia,
So true, hope you get it sorted, as when you owe these guys money, they are always far more efficient in getting it back.
Jesus a lot of people here live on a bubble, young generation is not materialistic? Little kids and teenagers walking around with very expensive technology that lasts 2years if they don't brake it, can't live without it..
And Tag will die because we have phones and smart watches to tell the time? It's a thing of the past, jesus, do most of you even realize that gaming is a niche thing, before the Wii came along was pretty close to extinction the whole console market, some of these "close to death" luxury brands, are 200 plus years old, smart watches are a trend ... Ok, atag watch is absolutely worth the money if you can spend it, it will last forever, smart watches and phones don't even work if you go into nature and have no WiFi, what are you talking about here, jesus...
That said, I don't think most people interested in a Tag would want a super Mario themed one, but I'm very curious to see what comes out of this coaboration
@blockfight The PC does everything the watch can do, minus being wearable. The watch only tells time, and possibly the weather and which cardinal direction one is facing. And uh, the PC does a heck of a lot more, as we all (hopefully) know.
TL:DR; Expensive watches are for status/bragging. Expensive PCs serve a function in daily life/career.
NINJA SOMETHING SOMETHING
A watch that costs more than my cell phone? Ok Boomer.
@Souflee,
Awesome post, and so true, basically people suggesting something has no value, because they themselves do not see the value in it, priceless.
@doctorhino,
A watch that will outlast your call phone by about 20 years, and would still sell for a decent price, so much better value then.
Mario is fun, but he's never been "cool" 😅
Wearing a Mario watch, no matter how expensive, is still a bit embarrassing.
A classy Samus Aran watch would be more respectable.
Definitely one of those things for me that is cool to look at on the internet, but I have no desire for. More cool Nintendo merchandise though is always cool.
@BloodNinja again as I said in my second comment, I'm not really comparing those 2 specifically. Just saying that I spend money on some things others might consider mad. And vice versa. People have different priorities. Each to their own. My first example was probably poor though.
@blockfight You’re stretching “to each their own,” quite a bit, though. Bringing the topic of a PC into a conversation about expensive watches doesn’t make any sense.
@BloodNinja I've already agreed this was probably a bad example. What more would you like me to say?
@blockfight I would like you to buy a Mario watch and then break it with a hammer as penance. I’m kidding, though, just busting your chops a little!
@Prizm gotta agree with you, nailing it on the head, also it can't be pulled off
, Cause even with Samus, it's just bk tasteful, gonna be the corniest tag out there
@BloodNinja I will never financially recover from this haha.
@blockfight lmfao
Would love an AppleWatch collab...
This watch better run Crysis.
@RandomNerds should be Luigi themed….
Wow, a £2,150 wristwatch that plays some pre-rendered Mario animations!
@RupeeClock Shame it does little more than that. That’s the thing with branded watches, it’s either a paint job or an animation.
Seriously ! No gears, no mecanism which is generally why it cost that much. So it's just electronics inside and its $2,150 ! No kidding !
The best things in life are free............. apparently.
This is a pure abomination, and not a Tag In my eyes.
Is it worth as an investment due to being limited? It being a digital watch is putting me down a bit. An automatic watch would've been awesome.
Looks awful in the trailer...
Incredibly tacky and doesn’t look like a high end watch.
A collaboration with Casio would’ve been better, maybe a Mario themed 5600 g-shock
If I spent this much on a watch, I'd never be comfortable wearing it...
I spent about the same amount on my gaming PC.
$2,150 huh?
I would say that is way too expensive, especially considering this doesn't look as nice as other watches they produce for that price, but given that a copy of Super Mario 64 has been sold for $1.5 million, relatively speaking, I expect all 2000 units to be sold out really quickly...
I'm really curious about the Venn diagram overlap of people who want a Tag Heuer and people who want a Mario watch.
I'm being honest here. These watches are ugly and look similar to me as the ones you can get for a couple of bucks.
It's wonderful, but honestly I best not... It won't work very well with Apple I assume and I already have an Apple Watch.
Looks good. I was going to get the new Citizen Mickey Mouse watch next time I'm in Disney World. Decision Decision 😱
No thanks, I already have a manlier wrist watch:
Looks like a watch that is 2000 dollar overpriced.
I’ll stick with a Mickey Mouse wrist watch
$2000 for a digital watch that needs to be connected to a phone? Oof. That's pretty steep. I can sort of understand a precision built mechanical watch selling for that much, but not a digital watch.
the actual price is almost irrelevant. 2000€, 5000€, 50000€, doesnt matter. you can sell it after years, most of the time, with good profit. so the only question would be: can you afford to buy it right now?
@lovesushi It's unlikely that a "smart watch" will increase in value.
@Gwynbleidd
actually i am a collector of watches and for sure it will. mark your and my posting and we speak again, 6-12 months after release. bet is on.
Truly hideous. Is there anyone tasteless enough to buy this?
@Mountain_Man its not about smart or digital. its all about limitation.
@doctorhino
Wtf does the boomer reference here mean?
So wait a 200-300 dollar watch and you add some animations of Mario and sell it for 2grand? People are stupid.. This is stupid. You giving this trash an article is stupid...
So, um.... Mario time? It's a nice looking watch, too but I'll pass personally! Pretty sure they'll sell out fairly quickly, though
So now you can use your limited edition watch
to get out of your bed in time
to pep up on some adrenaline stimulating, performance boosting, socially accepted drugs
to get out of your house in time
to rush to your fast car
to rush to the traffic jam
to be just in time for your 8 hours of daily slavery
to pay for your watch that gives you stress,
your house you didn't enjoy and don't even own yet,
your fast car to wait in line in that's still property of the bank,
your kids you don't have time for their day care,
your cleaner because you're too tired to clean your house,...
And who knows, you may even be a cleaner or day care worker yourself. Or look down on their life choices.
All while believing you have your entire life well thought out and in order, "being useful", and being looked up to for your choices. All in the name of "freedom". And people wonder why they're getting burned out despite owning all the stuff that was advertised to bring happiness, freedom, and relaxing family time.
Oh well, as long as they don't push each other in that situation, or unleash their stress on each other, or have actual accidents because they're in a daze and in a rush... Wait a minute... Wait a minute! There, another justification, go get that watch you wanted, you needed, you've earned it, it's worth it, it will make you happy.
I don't think I could live without a watch. But that watch doesn't need to be expensive, just some basic Casio or an affordable smart watch is enough for me.
That is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too pricey, wow. I don't understand why anyone would spend that much on a watch, regardless of brand or who's face is on there. It's just a watch.
But then again, I'm not a fan of watches in the first place, I haven't worn one in years now, and I barely ever wore one in the first place.
Lets-a-not buy this. Wahooo!
@johnvboy I just spent 1000$ on a box of cereal. I can’t understand why anyone would think it’s not worth it.
If you think that's expensive, don't worry, scalpers will soon resell them at 5x the msrp, they're just waiting for the bots to finish buying the whole stock.
@Vectorreeves,
I am not saying the price is not worth it, I just do not like Tag Watches without the traditional face and hour and minute hands.
I might be interested if there was a better character on there. But just Mario is kinda dull.
@johnvboy my comment was aimed at the idea that value is based on opinion. What’s a better value for 2000? A watch or a laptop? You can say it’s subjective but In that case I could say a box of cereal priced at 2000 is worth the money.
Way too expensive for me unfortunately
Remove a zero and get a more interesting character and it might be remotely worth a look.
Artificial demand moment.
@Vectorreeves,
True, but value of certain thing will always based on personal opinions, I mean if I have no interest in watches, then I doubt I would find any value in the item, same if I was not interested in laptops.
Now for a box of cereal, I would want the biggest box of Coco Pops for a $1000.
"Staggering $2,150"... that's actually very cheap in the watch world, though this is an Android watch, so you'll be throwing it away in a couple years.
I signed up for it. I'll let you all know if I get selected to buy. I see it as something that would be cool to wear when I want a conversation piece. And I could take care of it and in 20 years it may be a collectable.
I've ALWAYS thought watches were too expensive. I once bought an Omega for $8,000. It was a gift for a business partner. Most expensive thing (besides my house and car) that I've ever bought.
Anyone spending 2k on that needs their head examined, and needs to send me their bank account numbers so I can transfer a large sum of money fro...errr....into....it..... for the good of Nigeria. That's the ticket.
@Shambo I have no idea how this got no likes. You summarized everything about everything about existence (I don't say life, there's no longer such a thing as life, nobody lives, they just exist until they don't) that defines the modern "progress" we now "enjoy." The fact that nobody else even noticed or liked that is distressing.
@Anti-Matter does the Mario watch help you get friends? Stick with the yo Kai watch
No one of you guys seems to like running /hiking enough to mention suunto / polar or garmin sports watches...
Expensives (but not $2k) BUT with a real purpose.
Will never give up my fenix 5x plus . For sure one can run barefoot and without chrono. But thoses sports watch are a simple way to improve, showing good and bad days...
This Tag watch is basically and on purpose a collectible item, and should be considered as it. Wearing it more than 3 times a year will be a real risk for true collectors who aims for keeping a mint product...
So let’s debate about a strange niche/collaboration marketed Swiss watch nobody will ever uses as watch, but without judging ...
@NEStalgia It's the zombie apocalypse, but people don't recognise it because they always thought they'd be the survivors fighting for their lives. That there would be a clear distinction between the living and the dead. And there is, but there are no living in their societies, as you said. And the living get shunned and worse. Most normal people are the dead consumers instead, further destroying all life, too numb to realise, always looking for "brains" to think for them, and never for a heart. That's why I live far away from them, between dogs and trees, but sadly they just can't let me be in peace, so I gladly try to remind them once in a while about their "life" as a resource and the actual life of other living beings they literally consume as a commodity and a resource. Sadly, I can't go all out zombie apocalypse on them, because I still believe they are alive, somewhere deep inside of them. You know, there's always that naive character, who then gets mobbed and killed by their own family...
@Kainbrightside Haha, well it IS a great and enjoyable video, thank you as well. But, counter argument, what if that is how it feels to be a zombie, but you're actually just destroying and consuming others their lives without realising it? How would that weigh up?
I chose life in the form of live and let live. I don't take any lives, I don't eat dead, and I don't allow anyone to claim my life as something for them to own or exploit or kill for whatever reason. And when possible, I try to make people stop doing that to other creatures that aren't me as well. Sometimes in going vegan, sometimes in adopting an animal instead of buying one (I myself currently live with 3 rescued dogs, who were going to be put down for being "dangerous", in a forest full of small "wildlife" that would have probably been cut down when I didn't refuse to let the government bully me out of here), sometimes in other ways still.
Got one!
For the record, in case you were not watching Nintendo Life, they went on sale in the UK well before the 9am BST drop time.
Cost was £1800.
My order was in at 8.10 and they were all sold out by 8.24 BST at the latest.
They arrive in August. Can't wait
Thanks for the heads up!
