Update [Tue 3rd Aug, 2021 00:55 BST]: Pre-orders for Reggie's book have now gone live on Amazon. A hard cover version will set you back $27.99 USD and the Kindle version is priced at $14.99 USD. The current release date is still 24th May 2022.
Original article [Sat 17th Jul, 2021 02:00 BST]: In April 2019, Reggie Fils-Aimé stepped down from his role as Nintendo of America's president. It might seem like yesterday for some, but since then he's actually done quite a lot.
He's now planning to share the story about his rise to the top in a new book - Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo. According to listings online, this book will feature both "leadership lessons" and "inspiring stories" that aided Reggie along the way. As the reader, you'll apparently be able to use these lessons to springboard their own success and happiness.
"Learn from Reggie how to leverage disruptive thinking to pinpoint the life choices that will make you truly happy, conquer negative perceptions from those who underestimate or outright dismiss you, and master the grit, perseverance, and resilience it takes to dominate in the business world and to reach your professional dreams."
Here's what else you can expect to learn:
- About the challenges Reggie faced throughout his life and career-from his humble childhood as the son of Haitian immigrants, to becoming one of the most powerful names in the history of the gaming industry.
- What it takes to reach the top of your own industry, including being brave enough to stand up for your ideas, while also being open to alternative paths to success.
- How to create vibrant and believable visions for your team and company.
- How to maintain relentless curiosity and know when to ask questions to shatter the status quo.
Amazon has the launch date down as 24th May 2022, but this date is no doubt subject to change. When we get an official update about the release date and price of Reggie's book, we'll let you know.

Odd title.
Oh god I really wonder how this book is going to go down with people.
This is the official gamer bible
It’s weird to think that he’s not been president for over two years. There hasn’t quite been a standout Nintendo figure since his departure.
Being the head of an international companies localized ad agency is hardly the top of Nintendo.
@Solomon_Rambling
I'm really surprised that a man named Bowser hasn't made more of a Splash. No one can replace Reggie, but I expected a little more.
@Franklin Should've called it "My body is Reggie".
"the Top of Nintendo"
...
Technically Iwata was on the top of Nintendo, but oki.
@Luigisghost669 Yeah, I don't think NoA has much sway in terms of Nintendo's decision making. I always just assumed they just took orders from HQ, maybe this book will prove me wrong?
@VoidofLight
'My Book is Reggie'
Reggie was at the top of Nintendo, there’s no disputing that. Kyoto’s board of directors rely on NoA to keep their biggest market relevant and Reggie did that most of his years
I'm a fan of Reggie but not for the reasons Reggie things apparently
@Snatcher I'm sure there'll be protests and riots.
“Cover not final” yah that pic isn’t great.
@Franklin Should have been called how my body was ready
Should've titled it "My Body was Ready: The Reggie Fils-Aime Story"
@NinChocolate
I'm glade to see someone with a good knowledge of what Reggie did and was responsible for a lot and he was extremely friendly to gamers from everything I've heard of. He truly loved that position and Nintendo.
@Deepdoop I thought that that was the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2020.
My book is ready.
To be honest, we don't know much about the company decisions he has made. We all know his memes and stuff but I guess this is a chance to learn what he did in detail?
EDIT: Not saying he never did anything, I'm saying his corporate decisions and contributions are not nearly as known to the public as his public image is
He looks strangely worried or concerned in that cover picture. He looks caught between expressions, like a strange mix of happy and sad, depending on which half of his face you focus on. Weird.
@BloodNinja It’s the massive fart he’s holding in. That really takes a toll on a man’s body.
@nessisonett I just got dinner. Cereal. I'm walking back to the desk, chewing. I see this comment and I start gagging.
...are you trying to murder me?
'Cause that was really funny, and perfectly timed
NINJA APPROVED
This book will be a meme.
Can’t wait to hear about Mother 3
Disruptive thinking: Reggie fighting Iwata for the Mii fighter reveal in Smash 4 (E3 2014)
Surprised he had the time, what with him playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf, on his Nintendo 3DS.
I'm 99.5% certain an unfortunate amount of folks are gonna be in for a rude awakening when they learn that a business guy's book about his time in the business will have substantially less memes than they're expecting.
This isn't to say Reggie isn't cool or funny, or that people can't joke around, but it just feels like too many folks treat him as little more than a joke dispensary and receptacle, than a guy who was president of the NA division of one of the biggest gaming companies in the world.
I'd be very interested to heard his side of the story about those first few E3s he was apart of, where he really cultivated that tough guy/Reggienator image that would follow him throughout his career
This is so much cringe. The whole thing smacks of a licensed motivational speaking outfit that got him to sign off on using his story. The tease alone is loaded with every motivational catch phrase known to man.
It's a new low.
@nessisonett My body is gassy.
@PBandSmelly Well, he convinced Iwata to bundle Wii Sports with the console in the U.S., for one thing. It was sold separately in Japan. Hard to say if the Wii would have caught on so much in the West if it didn't include that accessible tech demo that showed everyone what the system was all about.
“Somehow I Manage” — Michael Scott
My bookshelf is ready!
@tseliot LOL.
I’d read it if he sent me a free copy along with a check for $5,000 or more.
My Kindle is ready.
This will be interesting for me as both a Nintendo fan and a “Blur Ocean” advocate.
OK, this man had to struggle to get to his position, but not everyone can be the CEO or president of a company.
The economy wouldn't turn right if everyone was an executive.
Can't wait to read a book by a glorified PR guy with not a single creative bone in his body.
Truly, when I think of standout people at Nintendo, it's not the devs breaking their backs that come to mind, but rather the dude babbling about "consumers" and "products" and "legacy content."
Why is not called "Kicking ass and taking names" or "My body is ready"????
I know I shouldn't judge the book by it, but that cover isn't anywhere near as classy as the Iwata book.
Is it also true that Reggie is left-handed, as implied by the GIF?
Given this is a book by a scummy businessperson for other scummy businesspeople and not fans, I have the feeling this will disillusion a lot of people - and I'm here for it! Let the idoltry end!
I love the polarized responses to this. Not much middle ground, it's either I love Reggie he was irreplaceable & amazing or I hate that meathead he exists for nothing.
well people are more interested in Nintendo and game gossip than Reggie "success story" as an executive. Want to read insight about US gaming market and Wii U failure
In all seriousness, can someone explain why people revere him so much? I don't follow the particulars of Nintendo's business closely enough to know the history, so I've always been curious why he seems to be so venerated by so many.
Ooh exciting. I always liked Reggie, he managed to remain visibly human on a platform where that isn't always common. It was charming.
Will be interesting to see how much detail he goes into regarding his strategies at Nintendo. I'll have to remember to pick this up.
Reggie was always a good reminder to us that not all of Nintendo was corporate.
He didn't have much creative sway on the games and their direction. Pretty sure he just mostly looked at the market and strategies for making sure Nintendo wouldn't tank in America. I wouldn't call that the 'top', personally. But I suppose outside of HQ in Japan, there's no other word for it.
@Luigisghost669 I’d say the us is a significant market for them. I don’t think it’s false to say “the top” he was at the big people’s table for sure .
That cover is incredible.
He should tell all how if Nintendo didn't come with the NES that gaming industry would be Pixel games only.
Seriously, if he'd just kept it simple and called it Reggie Fils-Aimé: Kicking Ass and Taking Names, he'd have nailed it.
It should go on the shelf next to the Iwata Asks book.
I believe all decisions comes from Japan. He was more of a "personality" than anything.
I used to like this guy, IDKY, not so much anymore but now that he's not here and Nintendo seems to be doing just the same I question how "integral" he was
I think the book should've been called My Body is Ready. That's such a classic, and funny, line. Nintendo's next exercise game should be called that too!
Nothing against Reggie but what did he ever actually do? He headed Nintendo of America and literally was just a yes man. Yea he loves games but he didn’t develop or bring anything special to Nintendo.
"conquer negative perceptions from those who underestimate or outright dismiss you"
Reggie was always a master at side-stepping Geoff Keighley's constant barbs about Nintendo not having games for "the hardcore" or not belonging on the same level as the other hardware companies.
I am not sure what he actually did for Nintendo behind the scenes, but at the very least he was a great face for the company. He was pretty entertaining too. I miss him.
Jeez, i'm very surprised at all the hate. Japan may make all the decisions, but what did Reggie ever do to deserve hate?
IT’S BUSINESS TIME feat. REGGIE from NoA

Understand how to MAKE IT BIG by being the BIGGER CHEESE and REWRITE THE RULES with POWER SYNAPSE BUSINESS STRATEGIES. Buy this book and be the HAPPIEST, BUSIEST, REGGIEST, BUSINESSIEST version of YOU that YOU CAN BE.
I like Reggie, but anyone who can glean anything meaningful from that blurb is probably a clairvoyant.
"Top of Nintendo"? He was top of Nintendo's US marketing dept. I doubt he made a single meaningful product decision.
He said “ass” one time in 2004…
Other than that, under his “direction” Nintendo of America went from 2nd to 4th in the Nintendo Hierarchy.
Was hoping it would be an autobiography of sorts. Not sure I'll get much out of a book of life lessons and business advice, but good for him. I'll wait for the interesting anecdotes to come out online
If he's voicing his own Audiobook, I'm totally getting that.
As much as working on Nintendo seems like a dream job for alot of people (me included) being hands tied and just follow whatever orders you get from Japan with little to no insight and making much much less money than other people in the same spot don't sound that exciting 😕
He was just a face for Nintendo, nothing more. And they saw he was getting too far up his own backside and got rid. Nintendo rules, not corporate business folk!
(imagines a more objective version of this article; posts an example of a more objective version of a certain part of the article (near its bottom))
www.amazon.co.uk had 24th May 2022 as the date by which the book was set to launch by the time of this writing.
@Chocobo_Shepherd
"Reggie was always a master at side-stepping Geoff Keighley's constant barbs about Nintendo not having games for "the hardcore" or not belonging on the same level as the other hardware companies."
(wonders about the "Geoff Keighley" mentioned in this message)
BOOM pre-ordered
I'm a fan of business books and nintendo - loved Ask Iwata so I'm excited for this one too!
Now we just need a tezuka or miyamoto book
It's like getting scalped without even having to wait for a reseller!
@Mario500 Pardon?
So is he going to charge us to finally get the inside story on Mother 3?!
Brilliant!!!
@Chocobo_Shepherd
"Pardon?"
(wishes to have understanding of the "Geoff Keighley" mentioned in this message: "Reggie was always a master at side-stepping Geoff Keighley's constant barbs about Nintendo not having games for "the hardcore" or not belonging on the same level as the other hardware companies.")
@Mario500 Because you don't know who Geoff Keighley is?
@Chocobo_Shepherd
"Because you don't know who Geoff Keighley is?
(does not know this "Geoff Keighley")
@Mario500 I guess just look him up? If you can find the old GameTrailers (?) videos where he would bother Reggie about Wii era content, that's what I'm most referring to.
