Update: We now have our first western price confirmation, with Nintendo revealing that the figure will launch in North America for $24.99, up from the usual $15.99 asking price.
European pricing is still to be confirmed, but we'll make sure to provide another update as soon as we have it.
Original Article: Earlier today, Nintendo revealed a gorgeous Zelda & Loftwing amiibo that's set to launch alongside The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD this July. It's notable for the fact that it's actually two characters in one, and while we don't have dimensions yet, it looks like it might be just a touch larger than your bog-standard figure.
We'll have to wait until we can see one in the flesh before knowing that for sure, but what we do know is that the figure is launching in Japan at a higher price point than regular amiibo releases.
Nintendo's Japanese website notes that it'll retail for 2,750 yen (approx. $25 / £18); for reference, the Smash Bros. series amiibo tend to launch for 1,650 yen (approx. $15 / £11). Official western prices haven't been confirmed yet, but judging by those numbers, don't be surprised to see it launch for something like $25 / £20 across the US and Europe.
We'll make sure to let you know when pre-orders start to go live, so keep an eye on the site for that if you're keen on grabbing one.
What price point would you be happy to pay for the Zelda & Loftwing amiibo? Do you think it's worth a little more than the usual price? Have your say in the comments below.

twenty quid for quality of life improvements, why nintendo
That's a bit lofty.
At first people (rightfully) complained about the price of the remaster, then Nintendo announced that a QoL improvement is locked behind an Amiibo and now that said Amiibo is even more expansive than usual. Good job, Nintendo!
Well that's annoying. I wonder why the price has soared.
That's like 5$ away from being half of the price of the game itself.
I don't even know what to say anymore... Just ugh
Bigger Amiibo are usually more expensive. Nothing new.
Just when you think Bowser's Nintendo have hit their lowest low, they dig lower.
20 pounds across Europe...How many countries in Europe are using pounds again?
I think the increase in price reflects a winding down of amiibo manufacturing.
If you're producing fewer of them in both quantity and range, it'll cost more to do so.
@Duffman92 for euro, it will be around €25
@sanderev is it bigger tho? As in, bigger than the standard base? We know the Guardian amiibo was more because it was so much larger than usual, but King K Rool cost the same as Pichu.
The solution is simple:
If you want it, buy it.
If it's too costly, don't buy it.
It's lame watching adults whine over non essential products.
@lyle_catcliffe I am guessing Zelda is the same size as other Zelda Amiibo, then yes it will be one of the biggest Amiibo out there.
I like collecting amiibo, and this one is gorgeous, but $25 is way too much. Gonna have to pass.
Suppose it depends on the size. For all we know, it could be somewhere in-between a regular amiibo and that large Detective Pikachu one.
But I think Nintendo's really winding down on amiibo. They know Zelda amiibo really sell well, and the Smash series remains committed to finishing off the series, bar some Player 2 ALTs people want. Reckon the moment the Smash series finishes up and BOTW 2 is done, it might be when they finally shut down amiibos for good.
I think we should keep a tally of how many articles NL can write of this amiibo.
It will probably have a limited run and then it takes ages before they will produce them again. I don't get this. They want to make money, right?
Nintendo, I can't defend yall sh** any more, this is dirty, just plane dirty, what should be in the game, your having people pay for, like what???
This is how you treat the fans that love you, well hey don't be getting mad when they bite the hand that feeds them.
I just, I just can't with them, like how low can they go, and I know this is like a "Nintendo being nintendo" moment, but damn, its a damn piece of plastic, and just bc it has somthing, that could greatly improve on your game play, they just sell it for extra, on top of the scalper's, most people were going to have to pay extra, anyway, this just so annoying, and this is what I was saying earlier
"loss aversion" people are going to want to get the gains (Plus just collect, the things.) more then the losses, sure your spending more money, and most likely, getting rip'd off, but you can cut your time in the game, (And we all know this is going to be used in speed runs) and if I ever have a hard time, I just tap my amiibo.
Look nobody has to agree with me here, but this is just like 3D all stars, were you knew you were getting rip'd off, but bc of fomo you got it anyway, alot of us did.
@Kaori-chan
Clever!
Go treat yourself to something nice after that one.
Perhaps an Amiibo? 🤔
Just means I will be able to sell it on ebay for closer to £70 instead of £60.
@AlexOlney Put some effort into these puns, please; don’t just wing it!
Expecting at least 350kr here in Sweden then, even the standard ones that cost £10.99 in the UK have been retailing here for around 250kr for the last 18 months or so.
What started as a fun, affordable little collectible has turned into a very expensive little bit of plastic now.
Can't say I'm surprised. Prices for Amiibo have been rising for some time. That's the primary reason why I'm picky about which ones I do pick up.
This one is gorgeous, so I still might get it if I can secure a preorder. I just hope it isn't a GameStop exclusive....
@JuiceMan_V This, 100%. Buy the thing or buy an amiibo Powersave or buy an NFC tag off eBay.
Given the size of the loftwing, that makes sense. I’m more concerned about the carrier in the US. Hoping really hard that it wont be locked to GameStop.
@Dragwhite I know, right? But I still gat them... I don't kno what about them allures me so much, but I'm trying to get all of the Legend of Zelda ones, and it feels so good whenever I add on to my collection.
Huge amiibo like this cost more. It's happened several times. The Guardian from BotW, Detective Pikachu, Wolf Link... Probably more that I'm forgetting.
I have a powersaves tag.
What are people crying about now? I’m not buying the amiibo (but man it’s nice!) but I don’t think not having the ability is going to break the game lol. Quality of life lol. It’s embarrasing
Super mega big pass on the PORT for me.
Seriously, if $25 is too much for you, then maybe you should ditch video games in general and find a better job. This item is geared towards collectors and are paying for a non essential addition to the game. It in no way affects your ability to play or not play the game if you can’t or won’t buy it. All this complaining every time the company tries to make money is getting old tbh.
That's preposterous. There have been really beautiful and detailed amiibos at their normal price. Special ones like the Guardian a tiny bit more expensive, but this is ridiculous.
I can see being upset about this amiibo, but don't lose sight of the real crime... that Nintendo's big "AAA game of the year" is a port of the 10 year old most mediocre mainline Zelda game at full price.
It'll cost £50 for most buyers who aren't lucky enough to get one directly from Nintendo. Scalpers and all that crap
@Kaori-chan but trice as lame as watching an adult insinuating superiority whilst pointlessly commenting about an adult complainer complaining about adult complainers.
Adults.
Unless Nintendo announces another way to get the in game QoL abilities this amibo gives you, I have to say that I'm with those that say this isn't right at all. Not only does buying the amibo give those that own it a distinct advantage in playing the game over those that don't, but now Nintendo wants to charge MORE for that ability? This is really not something Nintendo have done with an amibo before, and its something I quite disagree with. Cosmetic items or things that don't really affect gameplay too heavily? Sure...that doesn't sound bad at all. However...locking a potentially game changing mechanic (being able to hop back up to Skyloft in the middle of a dungeon and top up on potions, etc???) behind an even more expensive than normal amibo? No...that just sounds unfair and greedy. I can't believe Nintendo would allow something like this idea to to go forward.
Once again a very questionable inclusion of amiibo features. The feature unlocked via the amiibo should have been in the remaster to begin with. Amiibos should be mainly for collecting purposes and at best unlock some ingame collectibles that you can easily get by playing the game aswell (see FE Three Houses as an example for good amiibo functionalities)
I said yesterday that it would be $30
I was correct. When you add in tax, it will be.
@Ryancrim It's not necessarily an issue of it being too expensive, it's an issue of it having a massive spike in the retail price of the amiibo when it SHOULD be the same price as every other amiibo.
You could argue that the amiibo has 2 characters on it, that's why its more expensive. Those already exist with amiibo like the ice climbers and the link with horse BOTW amiibo. You could argue its cus it uses more material, but again there are figures that use much more material whilst still retaining the same asking price (E.g. the king k. rool or king dedede amiibo, or even the squishy metroid amiibo). There is no justifiable reason as to why this specific amiibo has a higher asking price, when all it could possibly have as a "feature" that other more expensive amiibo have is a more useful in-game ability. Which as has been stated, is a super scummy move to lock that behind a £20 figure. Asking an additional £7 for something that is IDENTICAL in every conceivable way to HUNDREDS of other amiibo figures made over the years, is the real issue here.
"If $25 is too much for you, you should find another job" is not the primary reason people are up in arms about this, its the fact that the product in question is $25 INSTEAD OF the regular $16 literally every single amiibo has ever been released for. Sure, it doesn't necessarily impact the way the game plays in any big way, but even if this was a collectors only item (which its not, lets be real, lots of people only buy amiibo of their favourite characters cus they like them and not for the collection aspect), the random huge increase in retail price should not have ever been something anyone should have had to consider in the first place, regardless of if they are a diehard collector of amiibo or just a kid who likes the look of the pretty bird and lady on the amiibo that is randomly a higher price.
@Tyranexx
It'll be so much worse if it is an amazon exclusive!
Look at the debacle with Skyward Sword Link amiibo!
Only prime members were allowed to order it!
@Bret
Wolf Link was normal sized and cost $14.99, same as the rest of the amiibo after the initial price jump from $12.99
Publicly on internet: "Down with this sort of thing!"
Privately on internet: (refreshing amiibo site on Nintendo shop every 5 seconds until pre-order goes live.)
Honestly it’s expected. It’s more of a deluxe amiibo. You’re getting 2 very detailed models and both are big.
@Bret @Spider-Kev Monster Hunter‘s Magnamalo Amiibo is also at 25€, as it is bigger.
@GrailUK I know right! People are going on like they've locked the bloomin Master Sword behind an amiibo, when actually it's the tiniest of basic features! Seriously they need to get over themselves.
€25 for a QOL patch in a full price Wii port. What a joke.
If you think this is new, people in Mexico can tell you how expensive it has gotten to get amiibo figures fron stores over the years.
@MajinSoul
That doesn't even make sense, tho.
Skyward Sword has an abundance of save points that take you back to Skyloft, so having the ability of the Amiibo, without the Amiibo, essentially invalidates key design of the game.
I don't think alot of people thought through what that Amiibo meant in terms of how the game already is.
Where the heck is my Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link amiibo and Pink(Purple) Haired A Link to the Past Link amiibo!!!!????
@Spider-Kev I didn't know that, or I'd forgotten about it. That is worse, locking it behind a paywall unless one is lucky enough to activate a free trial....
I love how many people whine about amiibo when they can :
a) Buy an amiibo card when they'll become available to enjoy the extras at a reasonable price
b) Actually play the game as it was intended and understand that those QoL features don't actually improve the game a whole lot (I did back in the day). The game is pretty straightforward and instant teleportation between Sky and Land feels like a Pay-2-Win feature rather than the amiibo-locked dungeon in Twilight Princess HD
I’m glad I stopped buying Amiibos a couple of years ago. I got sucked into it, and have used a few for sure (and my daughter loves the big woolly Yoshi amino), but most are still sealed in their boxes stored away. I need to get the motivation to sell them.
Yeah, a physical content which is blocked without it. Nice move Nintendo. Whats next, you can't use the right joy con without a Joy Con Amiibo?
@Nintendo4Sonic
What new devilry is this you mention? Terrible! Alas I already can't use my joy cons because they all drift nonstop. What a great company Nintendo has become these days.
A company trying to make more money. Shocking.
That's just Nintendo being Nintendo.
Luckily I have the ability to make any amiibo for free, new phones are magical haha.
This looks like the big kind of amiibo and I love it I don't plan to get the game right away, but I see this as part of my figuring collection
That's expensive, but I still think it's beautiful. Also, I Skyward Sword is only 1 out of 3 Zelda games I've played to completion, and I managed to do it last time without a fancy Ameeeboy, so all the complaints about "Nintendo blah blah MONEY blah blah QOL blah blah UNFAIR" sound extra whiny to me.
Well. The NFC tag itself costs near nothing to make even at home with a Android phone.
They only upped the price for the plastic.
Some Amiboo's here already costed 25 bucks, so i guess this one will be 40 bucks.
Welp. Another thing to add onto the list of things to race against scalpers.
Bigger amiibo cost more.... Guardian and magnamalo (for the most recent one) costs $25 usd. detective Pikachu and giant yarn yoshi cost $30 and i think $40 respectively.
...people just like to complain. I understand the locked behind amiibo thing (but like... It makes the game turn into baby's first Zelda cause there are save points galore in this game. So is this really a QOL?) and the cost is nothing new. A quick Google search of past things can really help, but it's faster to complain than to research. smh
If this is the only qol improvement that they do then it shouldn't be too bad. i'm sure that they will have others that are in the base game themselves. Plus nintendo already does things like this in their games. In games like mario party they have entire game modes dedicated to amiibo. Or in Mario Odyssey if you scan a bowser amiibo it shows you the location of purple coins. But the price is inexcusable for what the figure does in game. But too be fair there is never really a time where you are more than a 2 minute walk away from a statue. Its just a little something you get for buying an amiibo. Lets just hope they don't continue with these kinds of things during development.
@15roundTKO this was ironic. I'm too not excited
@Noid You think this is the low point for Nintendo? Where were you during the Wii U days? Nintendo is on fire these days, no idea why you think it's at its lowest.
@MajinSoul Well not everyone wants amiibo just as a thing for their collection. there are some cool features that amiibo have in botw. such as the wolf link amiibo, you get a wolf companion that follows you around, that's freaking awesome. Still the way they locked returning to the sky from anywhere is a bit annoying, but like you said you're never too far away from a save point
@Mr-Fuggles777
yea you're still a repulsive d-bag, d-bag
And here we go with another round of sycophantic fascists telling Nintendo customers to shut up and not voice their opinions about Nintendo's shameless greed and price gouging. Why don't all of you who can't handle other people's opinions start your own site where there are no comments, that way you don't have to trouble yourselves with an awareness that not everybody wants to get buggered constantly by a company that makes stuff they like.
@15roundTKO thats so true
Great, I'll be getting this!
If Nintendo's willing to keep features behind Amiibos instead of keep them behind DLCs, then increasing the price is not a big deal for people who just want to access extra in-game features.
People want buy the figures will buy the figures, people just want feature unlocks could still get cheap substitute elsewhere.
It's a physical toy, not a dumb DRM protected 100KB digital key file locked to a specific account which forcing gamers to pay expensive price, or even buy the limited edition of the game on day 1 without knowing if the game is good because it's a limited pre-order bonus code.
And we have "other options" to get those in game features unlocked without paying ridiculous price, also without any risk of get our console or account banned because of account sharing or hacking.
No matter how expensive these Amiibos are, still better than DLCs IMO.
@screechums unfortunately for you, the way capitalism works is that if a company makes stuff you like you have to... ya know... pay for it 💁🏼♂️💅🏻
@Otoemetry
Uh, no, I'm being that way to a guy who shamelessly boasts about how he'll just scalp it for a higher price now that its original price point is higher. Maybe you might actually want to read the comment I'm addressing before you barf out a response. I have no problem with someone disagreeing with me, and I have no intention of buying this amiibo so I'm not personally concerned with the price. Did you even bother seeing what I was responding to? Or is that too much work with your panties obviously all up in a wad?
I love amiibos and might buy this but good god does this grind my gears putting a QOL feature in a plastic toy for get this 25 dollars thats stupid 85 dollars for a game and its amiibo
Everyone on here complaining about price and not buying it is going to be real salty when it sells out , costs double and then decide that they want one
That's soooo Nintendo.
Please keep up the complaints. Maybe Nintendo will finally start listening to us. Other game companies listen when they make a mistake, we can make Nintendo do it too, otherwise they'll keep getting worse and worse about these sorts of things...
@screechums you, talking about ME having my panties in a wad?! Give me strength! I've seen your tantrum comments all over the articles on this subject and I just couldn't stand seeing another whiny toddler tantrum comment without saying something.
Here's a tip, if you don't want people to challenge you try not having BS opinions and ***** them all over the internet.
@screechums I assume you don't buy anything from stores either, they have marked up the price on all of their stock.
Its supply and demand, I only get a limited amount of money to spend on hobbies each month - buying and selling this amiibo means I can effectively get SS for free leaving my money intact for other stuff like comic books or boardgames.
If Nintendo didn't create false scarcity, these wouldn't jump in price and I wouldn't waste the time to buy, resell and post the amiibo.
I also buy old furniture and renovate it before selling for a profit, does this make me douche bag as well. Or is it only when it comes to buying and selling toys?
@Otoemetry
You didn't challenge my opinion, knob job, because I didn't complain about the price of the amiibo. I have ZERO interest in buying it so I don't care. I've been complaining about people like YOU who try to shut down others who want to voice their grievances about Nintendo's greedy business practices. I see that you deleted half your previous comment when you realized you sounded dumb getting on my case about something you didn't even read right, so you've already embarrassed yourself enough haven't you? I enjoy being challenged on my statements, but only on the statements I actually make, dingus. There are tons of people on here who have actually complained about the price tag. You could've tagged any of them, but you chose me, so I'll just assume you got your tussocks in a tumble because I said something you thought was true but didn't like me calling out Nintendo, because you're likely just some sad fanboy. And I hope someone does give you strength, and maybe some brains, too, because you clearly don't have either. Thanks for reading my comments though, always happy to meet a fan!
and @Mr-Fuggles777, you can justify it all you want, the bottom line is you're going to try to buy something someone might actually want before they can and then sell it to them at a higher price for your own gain. I think that's repulsive and a d-bag thing to do. I see that you think it's okay.
Look all, this is plain and simple, if you have the rupees then buy, if not then don't buy. But don't cry like a bottled fairy. Me personally, as a Zelda fan, I'm looking forward to buying it to add to my LoZ Amiibo collection. If it going to cost me sub £25, then so be it.
Hard pass from me, but I appreciate that they're making amiibo still.
@Tipehtfomottob You're right; they can't GIVE credit. If you don't have the rupees, come back when you're a little, mmm, richer.
@screechums Oh my god are you actually falsely accusing me of editing my comments too? You've done the same to other people on the other article. You're a wacko, enjoy being on the ignore list.
@Otoemetry
Dude you seriously erased calling me a d*ck in the part under your painted nail pic where you got all pissy saying i was being a d*ck to someone because they disagreed with me, when you obviously didn't even check what I was responding to. I still have the email with your original comment in it. And you can see that in my original comment I am responding to more of what you said that you edited out. And on the other article someone else accused me of editing my comment when they didn't read what I wrote right either. You are a sad pathetic tool, man, and a coward to erase your insults and lie. Total bawbag. There's no hope for you.
The price is sky high!
Love the game, but not a fan of the look of the loftwing character.
They need to bring back the other zelda amiibo. I have missed alot of them.
I will just use my N2Elite to get these improvments for free (which they should have been in the first place).
Sometimes I really miss Iwata.
Hopefully there are many more quality of life improvements in Zelda: Skyward Sword HD not locked behind expensive, scarce amiibo for an already expensive remaster of a 10 year old game included upon booting it up 😬.
Maybe we will find out theres a Fi amiibo and you have to buy it to unlock the button only control scheme
Okay, changed my mind. Not paying more than 20€ for one and only if I REALLY want it.
@Nintendofan83 I'm talking about ethics and business practices, not finanical success.
Aaaaand I've lost interest lol. I was gonna get it just because I love amiibo but $25 for a single figure is really pushing it.
@15roundTKO
hahahahahahaha and a total deal at only $45!
I thought the higher price was par for the course for these 'premium' amiibo?(The Monster Hunter ones, Big Yarn Yoshi etc)
Either way, still undecided if I want to grab this. $25 is obviously on the high end, but this will probably be one of the more valuable amiibo later down the line.
Even if I don't wind up getting this, no big deal. I find it that life is too short to get too upset about things like this. Don't buy it and move on.
preorder cancelled.
All these people complaining to the death, but you don't even have to buy it. People seriously get desperate to complain about everything.
People here crying over £20 or $25... Welp in the rest of the EU (or at the very least in the Netherlands) it's around €30. It's seriously double of what amiibos usually cost
I must have it!!!
@15roundTKO Pfft ok that's good
@hippoeater A shame for you that nobody is going to do that
The Australian price is $34.95.
Welp, I'm out. I was on the fence even at the regular $15 tag.
@MS7000 They think cause it’s 2 figures on one base that it should cost more
@sanderev The Zelda figure on this seems to be taller then the Zelda (The Wind Waker) figure and the loftwing figure is as tall as the box, I don’t remember any amiibo being that tall. So I’m not complaining much about the price.
@Pandy Yeah, I think Zelda is about the same height as the Breath of the Wild Zelda, which is currently the tallest Zelda Amiibo.
@Otoemetry Folk are carrying on like SS is some sort of BotW Open World explorerama! In reality, it's more like crying you can't pop into your car to visit your local corner shop. It's nice and if the world was bigger it would be a bigger deal, I'm sure (Nintendo know what they are doing.) Not having the Amiibo will not detract from the playing experience. And anyone that does have it, probably won't take it out of the box hahah!
Update: Goes on sale and immediately sells out in US due to bots.
"Soared", "Sky-High"
Keep 'em coming, folks!
I don't really care about the fast-travel thing. It's ok but I 100% the game the first time without it with much issue. I got through Ocarina w/ 6 warp songs and often had to walk (or ride) distances greater than a flight upon my trusty loftwing. No, I'm getting this amiibo purely because it's f-ing gorgeous!
At the moment,
this amiibo is just fast travel for Skyward Sword,
but have y'all figured out yet that it would also be eventually utilized for Breath of the Wild 2?
