Ugh... saw the story on Twitter last night and been annoyed ever since.
I really don't get the whole "parents are helpless" mentality. That's why parents have to set their foot down with children sometimes and pull the plug.
Another aspect that bothers me is that at least Fortnite is a free game that kids can play as long as there is internet to use. Not everybody has good access to a park, safe neighborhood, or horse and hound for fox hunting. Just sayin'...
The game itself really is good...kind of a mix of Star Fox and the old Centurions cartoon from the 80's (yeah I know I'm dating myself right now). Toys to life aspect distracted too much from it, I guess.
If you haven't tried it, this game is worth your time. It's free to play but you can actually progress fully experience it by playing well and grinding.
Does Google have the ability to really upset or influence the industry? Yes.
Will Google have an actual console or is this a streaming service? Not clear to me at all.
If it is a console in the traditional sense, I would share the concerns in this article. If this is more about streaming, a lot of people will be turned off. There are still too many gamers out there that want physical versions of games. Also too many that do not have the internet this requires. For example, I was on cable before I moved. Now I'm using expensive mobile data to get by at home and using the cable internet at my business to do higher bandwidth work. Fiber optic is supposed to come by residence soon, but I don't know when.
The point is, Google is heavily based on tech services, with it's hardware being designed mostly to promote those services. I can't help but be skeptical about any Google console and how well received it will ultimately be.
Glad to see Fire Emblem details. I'm kinda keeping my sights low and hope we get release dates on the games we already know about.
Ah whatever lol...I predict we'll see whatever Retro has been working on, along with a ton of SNES games on the online service. Metroid Prime Trilogy, Secret of Mana Collection, Xenoblade Remastered and Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Wonderful 101 to come this year. Bayonetta in 2020. And a 2D Zelda game, too!
I wonder if it means we would really be getting the third game, or if they are releasing the first two in some different form. Sorry but I can't help it.
We may never know the story, but I'd say they were worried about getting another Other M or Federation Force. Good games on their own merits but not a true Prime Sequel.
Here's the thing about Retro...the people who were really behind the old Prime games have moved on. We are getting the Donkey Kong Country team here.
That being said, Tropical Freeze was amazing. Retro has added a lot of talent since then. They should have the more western sensibility that Prime needs to work.
The best news I think is that whatever Retro has been doing will come out soon. Hopefully that can be used to gauge expectations at this point. The hype will go up either way, though.
Good news to me. These are usually some of the more pleasant surprises for me. Looking for Wargroove like everybody else, but hope to see something new.
The big takeaway to me is the Switch did excellent over the holidays. Nintendo is back. Third party games should come back in earnest now. That's the great news to me.
Idk what to say about Blizzard. It's cool that Diablo III came. I really expected to see something about Overwatch and Hearthstone, but they're dragging their feet if they are. I wish they would.
I believe there is a revision on the drawing board, but I think it's too early to hear about...the first one is selling too well right now. Maybe if it doesn't meet it's sales goal for the fiscal year, but it's going to be so close that I think they will keep riding the train for now.
I have a hard time with the "lite" version, too. I don't think Nintendo can afford to sacrifice features with this one.
I think they will have a Switch 2.0 of sorts. Same features with more ram or a faster Tegra processor to keep pace for next gen. I wouldn't rule out some games not playing well or not compatible with the old Switch if it goes that far, though.
Agreeing with everything said above, but another thing...
Even if they follow through with what they're saying they're doing (I doubt it), they are obviously trying to join the teraflop arms race with Sony and Microsoft. The pitch seems to be that Mad Box will play those games better. But will have enough software to justify the consumer investment?
That's the worst angle for releasing hardware. Two of the main reasons the Switch is succeding is (1) it's power as a PORTABLE system and (2) the great lineup of exclusive software. It's respectable performance as a home console is just gravy when you think about it. This is what's doing well, alongside the mobile gaming industry, whether you love it or hate it.
Even the more questionable systems like the Atari VCS or the new Intellivision supposed to be in development are not expected to be cutting edge, instead aiming for nostalgia.
So while I'm not against competition, this is a crazy idea with a completely wrong direction. I think I'll go back to playing Gear Club on my Switch now.
NSMBUD is actually a pretty big deal if you haven't played it before. Arguably the greatest 2D Mario game released on Switch, and a possible system seller for reaching that fiscal year goal.
Mostly I hope the next Direct gives out some release dates. There's a lot of games we know about for 2019, but not when to expect them.
Panic button should've at least been a runner up on the eshop developers. The accomplishment of porting a game like Warframe to Switch deserves some credit.

@Tempestryke Good question...I just know the acid ain't helping lol.
Re: The Upcoming Sonic Movie Sounds Utterly Crazy, According To Early Viewings
I seriously wonder what Hollywood writers are thinking when they sit down to work on these scripts.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Direct Rumoured For This Week Could Be A Perfect Send-Off For Reggie
@Krambo42 I was thinking about that, too.

@MagnaRoader Just like @nhSnork said. Some bosses drop blueprints for warframes, too.

The first one was solid fun.
Re: Cadence of Hyrule Is What You Get When You Cross Crypt of the NecroDancer With Zelda
@Desrever yes, the games as a whole were great, but those two were mind-blowing.
Re: Square Enix Shares More Info About The Story In The Octopath Traveler Mobile Game
I really don't understand why this isn't announced for Switch...it's not like it wouldn't be the first free to play game.
Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Be Concerned About Google's Play For Gamers?
I have a lot of mixed feelings about this...

@rushiosan They've added multiplayer and some missions.
Re: Tiny Metal Gets An Upgrade With Full Metal Rumble, Coming This Spring
I really enjoyed the first game. Will be looking forward to this.
Re: SNES Style RPG Chained Echoes Reaches Nintendo Switch Stretch Goal
The game really interested me and I chose to back it. They have a Paypal store up if anyone is still interested in backing.
Re: Kid Icarus And StarTropics Join The Switch Online NES Library This Month
Real happy to see StarTropics, but 3 in Japan and 2 in the West isn't right. They could've released StarTropics II to even it out.
Re: Random: One Tiny Fix Could Make Sonic's Movie Appearance So Much Better
It honestly looks 10 times better.
Re: This Is What Sonic The Hedgehog Probably Looks Like In His Upcoming Movie
@KennyBania thanks for the laugh. I snorted my drink on that one.
Seems like they tried to be more faithful than I thought they would, but the proportions feel too humanoid.
Re: Looks Like The Daemon X Machina Demo Will Be Removed From The Switch eShop Next Week
I liked the game. Definitely needs frame rate work. The main problem for me was it was hard to follow the story chatter during a mission.
Re: PlatinumGames Still Wants To Get The Wonderful 101 On Switch
Makes me think it's not getting announced on the Direct, unless they're being mischievous.

Re: Piranha Plant Is Now Available In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
So, is Piranha Plant available in World of Light roster immediately, or is he on the map somewhere? Nor near wifi to download and just curious.
Re: Piranha Plant Is Now Available In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Wish they had left Ike alone, but glad to see Samus and Link get buffs.
Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Metroid Prime 4 Delay?
Lot of thoughts in my head...
Glad to see the honesty and transparency.
Glad to see the concern about quality.

@hatch LOL yes, this!
Re: Rumour: Dataminer Uncovers SNES Games For Nintendo Switch Online Service
I'm real glad to see Star Fox and Star Fox 2 released. Frustrated with IV drip of releases, though.
Re: Talking Point: What Does The Bungie Divorce From Activision Blizzard Mean For Nintendo?

@NEStalgia #2 to be honest. I thought Nicalis had a pretty good rep.

The readers version looks better to me.
Re: Feature: Things We Wish Nintendo Would Do In 2019
I would definitely want an expansion to the online games...SNES is badly needed there.
Re: Feature: Game Of The Year 2018 - Staff Awards
Octopath should've had the art style award.
Panic button should've at least been a runner up on the eshop developers. The accomplishment of porting a game like Warframe to Switch deserves some credit.
Smash Ultimate has definitely earned the rest.
Re: Tiny Metal's Free Multiplayer Update Has Finally Been Dispatched To Nintendo Switch
It really is a great strategy game. Definitely worth it with the sale going on.
