As a follow up article - should write up a list of games that were not 10s that you would re review as 10s…and any 10s that you would re review at a lower level.

Some ideas I had….

Virus man - level looks like a computer hack job, enemies getting reprogrammed move sets. Boss tries to attack you from behind and give you a virus that depletes as the fight goes on.

Paper man - can get cut in halves and multiply

@ChessboardMan yeah it looks like the Desert level to me.

I agree with what he’s saying - often new IPs that are successful are from a sense of trying new things vs being iterative.

But it’s also ironic that all his recent projects are a rehash of his most successful IP….

How about GTA 6?

I think Xbox is seeing the writing on the walls…and has their mindset made on exclusivity. If you are a publishing company - yes - that is a bit antiquated as game development cost is insanely high for AAA games…and you want the biggest audience to buy your products. But if you are a hardware company than the philosophy that Nintendo has is sound. You want to give people a reason to play your games. Nintendo has done a pretty good job of using some platforms as a springboard to switch (mobile) and the only thing I think they could change is getting some lesser known titles out there on other platforms to raise brand awareness…or offer them elsewhere after a certain amount if time. But I can’t argue with their core principles.

Couldn’t you just ask the flight attendant for a pair of cheap earbuds?

I think if they can turn it into a Road Warrior type section of sorts, it could be a cool addition to the Metroid cannon. Will see how it turns out.

You should write an actual article about the most memorable jumps in games.

For me Super Mario bros level 8-3 was the most palm sweating jump I remember.

I don’t know why anyone would launch a game in December and miss out on the Black Friday shoppers.

Would it make sense to use on Switch 1 version of Prime and Pokémon? Then get the free upgrade, if it is free to switch 2?

I’m confused by the Zelda notes comment. So is it bad in both versions? It sounds like it’s a nice addition in TOTK but awful in BOTW based on the score comments

I wonder much does this company make in sales annually? When they say mass produce - is that 1000? I don’t know how they stay in business.

So will there be a free upgrade if you buy on Switch 1?

I thought you could adjust the camera back in Mario kart 64? So not really a new feature?

If the argument here is “fun” based - I actually get a bit of a kick of the most absurd death animations. If anything, I wish that they would allow you to watch the complete fall in BOTW or TOTK before fading to a black game over screen.

So I did some research looking at US household income in 1985 vs 2025 and this is what I found:

1985
$23620 avg household income
$8220 avg annual house payment
$3401 avg taxes
$968 avg food
$840 gas

With NES $200, that’s roughly $200 of remaining pay

In 2025
$82886 avg household income
$12018 avg taxes
$26700 avg house payments
$9985 avg food
$2449 avg gas

So a $500 switch is apx 1.6% of total remaining income and a bit cheaper than the NES.

Of course this doesn’t account for the large increase in other potential expenses that are now vying for our attention (phone, internet, streaming, etc) but for the frugal minded it appears we have a little more disposable income in the states.

It would be nice if we got a companion article showing what the average persons disposable income has been around these launches…not just salary but how much does the average person/family have that year.

Two questions…
1) Have they confirmed that all switch 1 upgraded games will be free of charge if you have the premium online membership? Or is that just Zelda?

2) How much will the new upgraded games be? And if we are looking to save a few dollars, can we buy the switch 1 version on a discount/sale or with the Nintendo game vouchers to get as a cheaper base price than buying the game with additional content for $80 say for Kirby?

@Dimey I’m in the US so forgot that the June 9th pre order tariff delay was more of a US announcement.

@VoidofLight $80 is not the standard. The new DK Game will be $69. I think Nintendo is going to expand on the TOTK philosophy and price things on perceived value. $80 doesn’t seem that bad if you are putting 200 hrs into it vs a $60 game that lasts 20, or seeing a 2 hr movie for $15.

So all these people complaining - why not just get the bundle? Are you planning to get Mario kart after launch? $50 game in the bundle.

I went with NA/EU1. To me it told the most about the genre with all the boxes.

The 2nd one makes me think Mario’s going mining.

The Japan one looks like one giant picross box… not quite as obvious in what the game is vs #1

The question on where the switch ranks - I didn’t think DS was considered a “console”. Am I wrong? Shouldn’t it be 1st for all “consoles”?

I have a 2 and 4 year old - I’ve found Clubhouse games to be the most playable with them. They love to flick the bowling ball or play a little air hockey.

If I were a betting man, I would side with Nintendo. Aren’t they undefeated in winning lawsuits? They have a top tier law team and surely a lot more money to fight this than Pocketpair. If I were Nintendo I would go after ongoing royalties vs a flat fee but will see how it all shakes out.

I always thought it would be cool to do a 3D isometric type game - similar in style to supper Mario 3D world with more tightly confined levels.

Can someone explain what the other emulation companies were doing differently that got Nintendo to sue?

Startropics. At the time it was a bit of a Zelda rip-off but I’ve always felt there is so much more the franchise could do. Earthbound needs a fully 3D game - I remember the Earthbound 64DD screen shots back in the day…

I would also like to understand the origins to the koopalings. Are they bowsers kids? Did he adopt? Where are they now?

If they add bowser jr - who will be the mom?

I think it would be great if we got a drip of DLC for the current wonder before exploring a sequel.

Interpretation - they will sue if they feel strongly about having a case.

@marsbitrona I’ve seen other video game websites ask common people about video game consoles…no one seemed to know what a Wii U was and Nintendo also never showed the console in any advertising, leading some to believe it was a pricey accessory.

So what is the total US number now for the Switch vs PS2 and DS?

E3 was great for what it was - some major big announcements, Miyamoto’s playful showings, celebrities. But it looks to me that it became too costly and companies must be thinking - why spend all this money once a year, fighting over each other to get press, when we can control the message, make announcements when we are ready, and speak directly to the hardcore audiences at a fraction of the cost?

@SteveDaSteve haha. That would be funny if this is the way to an A. They should do a followup article once the class is finished. Curious to see what the winning formula is.

IMO Nintendo is the king of teaching people core concepts in a more subliminal way without beating players over the head. From these games to Super Metroid (explaining the story without saying a word, creatures showing you how to wall jump without telling you)…several other examples of this design philosophy in place.

Regarding the race - couldn’t one team just have a bunch of rockets and a lot of zonai power to win?

Last holiday season, Nintendo sold over 8M copies…I think they can certainly hit this again this year.

So my prediction has alway been…

2023 - 140M
2024 - 150M
2025 - 155M

The PS2 had support for 12 year, the Switch can outsell it in 9.

@KBuckley27 right but the ps5 is newer…and switch has outpaced ps5 sales during the same period. The Switch is having the best year 7 of any console ever released. Pretty amazing a 7 year old console with older tech can keep pace with ps5.

I went with US/UK. I thought the minimalism conveyed a little more mystery whereas the Japan one is overly crammed and a bit cheesy looking.
