Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Admit That F-Zero X Is The Best F-Zero

GX - while very hard - was also insanely rewarding. I remember the satisfaction from taking out all the other hovercrafts with the spin attack. And the hidden waggle speed was another cool addition. I didn’t have any issues with the controls - a steep learning curve but never unfair at least in the race mode. I didn’t play X much so will have to go back to make a complete assessment - but for now, I vote GX.

Re: Switch Hardware Sales Now Over 125 Million, PS2, Nintendo DS Target Still A Way Off

BFahey3

If say Nintendo sees a similar decline the next few years, there’s still a chance it can catch the ps2. After all, that console sold on the market for 10 years. My projections:
FY2023 - 15M
FY2024 - 10M
FY2025 - 5M

And if they do any discounting or add additional models - that would certainly help them get over the ps2. They also need a few more bangers - Maybe a 2D Mario, Prime 4, and Arceus 2.

@Nikki_boagreis if the Japan one is lazy, then wouldn’t the European one also be lazy? It’s the same cover, just a color swap from what I can tell.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Brand Momentum Has Been Flat Since 2018, Says Sony

BFahey3

Was there any info on how the research was conducted? Survey of 100 Sony fans? I think this is fairly inaccurate considering a few things - Animal Crossing fever in 2020 and the Switch selling 28M that fiscal year. Splatoon 3 and Pokémon games in 2022 having the highest launch sales ever. Then you have Nintendo opening theme parks in Japan and LA, the Mario Movie grossing close to $1.3B - currently the #4 highest grossing animated movie ever, and now Zelda selling 10M copies in 3 days. Yes, system sales have slowed but the Switch is the #3 all time console and they haven’t really had many iterations or even a price drop since launch. So yeah - very skeptical of this chart.

Re: Video: Does The Switch Actually Feel 'Old' Yet?

BFahey3

It doesn’t few old to me simply because there are still so many great experiences to be had…and it feels like Nintendo is still just scratching the surface on the retro content. We live in an age where graphical improvements are no longer that impressive and a strong art style can be essentially timeless. It only feels old to the developers with newer games that struggle to port their games over.

Re: Soapbox: If You Thought Last Year Was "Sad" For Switch, 2023 Might Be Hard To Handle

BFahey3

Is it just me or are gamers getting awfully spoiled? The switch now has a catalog of over 5000 games. Back in the N64 and Wii U days, we would be lucky to get more than a few games a month.

I don’t know if the switch can match 2017’s watermark year, but there’s certainly a lot of great new games and ports. I still think Nintendo is putting out a lot of great quality releases, rivaling the somewhat new ps5/Xbox x/s systems. My personal fav was the new ninja turtles -shredders revenge.

Imo a solid year, another long list of games to add to my back log. And several other games I just can’t buy until I make more progress. Honestly if you can’t find something good in the library, then you probably shouldn’t be gaming! Looking forward to pikmin 4 and Zelda next year.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Mario Kart Game?

BFahey3

Imo the mobile game is the worst. And for me I wasn’t huge on the N64 version. I thought the original battle mode was more fun and the controls were very loose in the N64 game. Plus they ruined rainbow road. MK8 Deluxe is the most refined and really like the additional features like anti gravity speed boosting. The Wii version was a little too casual. Too many blue shells and random victories but still fun. Double Dash was a lot of fun and thought it was a great idea.

Re: A New Smash Bros. Would Need A Smaller Roster, Admits Sakurai

BFahey3

I think maybe the team could implement a create a fighter so fan can make all their fav 3rd party characters for the next game…and a music editor. And for the adventure mode, maybe focus on a handful of staple characters and create a Nintendo mashup game. All wishful thinking but something different from the endless battles.

Re: Video: The 21 Best NES Games Of All Time, As Rated By The Nintendo Life Community

BFahey3

Mega Man 2 for me is superior to 3 for a few reasons:

-Better music
-Better Weapons
-Better Stages
-Better Wily levels
-No wasted movements

MM3 is great, but the doc robot stages seemed tacked on to me, and this is the first game that starts to rehash some wily bosses like the rock monster guy. Proto man and Rush were nice additions, but not enough to overcome mm2’s pure joy.

Re: Talking Point: Is The N64 Pad Actually The Best Controller Ever?

BFahey3

it’s was a mind blowing, revolutionary controller for Mario, Zelda, Star Fox and Racing games. It was meh for fighters. And over time there were issues with the stick grinding down and not setting. IMO, the SNES, wave bird, and gamepad pro are all better more refined. But none as revolutionary.

Re: Best Of 2020: 1995's Nintendo Was Arrogant And Ahead Of Its Time All At Once

BFahey3

Well, I think not using CDs hurt nintendo, but the most hurtful part of this was the high price point Nintendo was charging 3rd parties to develop on a cartridge. From what I remember, the carts cost $25 to $30, whereas CD were a few bucks. This left little margin on the table, and in some cases caused games to launch in the $79 range. Pretty unheard of up until the N64 era. Some companies like square couldn't bring their games as well due to the size limitations.

But long term, cartridges have proven some key advantages, and they have a lot more resale value now, whereas a lot of the ps1 games are now unplayable due to scratches, and the tech failing.

Re: Talking Point: Is EA's Switch Strategy Lazy, Or Simply Common Sense?

BFahey3

EA has not been a great partner for Nintendo. I remember the early says of Wii U where they would release Mass Effect 3 at full price and release the Trilogy on other systems at a reduced price...and then complain why Nintendo sales weren't very good. Maybe they can turn things around some day but they clearly have been on sour terms since Nintendo rejected their EA network for Wii U.
