@PinderSchloss If they want to really improve these games, I think quite some work will be needed, not just increasing resolution like they did for the upgrades already released. I would not be surprised if these updates were not free, like the ones for BotW and TotK.
Loving all the people waiting for a revised Switch just because a handful of batteries are faulty out of the millions of units already sold. You could as well stop buying any electronic device, because whatever device you're considering there's always a probability to get a faulty device.
Keep on waiting! In the meantime we'll have fun without you!
@TwinFami Don't hope too much, it won't be fixed because it's not a bug. The battery capacity is too small with regards to the power consumption of the system. The best you can hope is a few minutes more. They had to make a choice between a more portable system with a smaller battery or a more bulky system with a larger battery, they chose the former.
YouTube app not working is currently the only reason I keep my Switch 1 at hand, I hope they fix it soon and that 4K will be available!
@speed_loafer YouTube on Switch is linked to my account because I'm the only one using it. YouTube on TV is not linked to my account because I'm not the only one using it.
And how do you distinguish between inserted Virtual Game Cards and ejected ones? A card could be inserted (=tied to the current console) but not downloaded. It could as well be downloaded but ejected ATM.
An actual upgrade is very unlikely anyway. The Switch version has been so downgraded that no upgrade would bring it to the level of a PS4 for instance. Maybe they could port the PS4 version and sell it at a lower price to owners of the Switch version.
Each time you hear that the version tested is an older version and performances could be improved with a newer build, you know that the performances of the final version will be mostly the same.
Still waiting for the announcement of the Switch 2 version with improved resolution and frame rate. I played all Xenoblades on Switch and now it's time for improved performances.
Who in their right mind would purchase a Switch 2 now for high prices to a seller that obviously doesn't own the console and while most shops are still waiting for more information from Nintendo to open preorders??
@Rayquaza2510 AFAICT, all digital games you bought (including the DSi and the Wii) are still downloadable. It's true you can't buy new ones, but the ones you bought are still accessible.
I've always supported physical releases but one thing's clear : The future of game distribution is digital, whether you like it or not. You can still vote with your wallet, but then you won't play the concerned games because the only alternative will be digital only.
Considering this, I think key cards is a good idea. As a consumer, you can still lend or resell the game which you can't with a digital only game. And shop owners are happy because they'll still have something to sell.
So if you don't want to buy key cards that's fine, but in any case full physical releases will be more and more an exception.
@AnnoyingFrenzy I'd actually like to buy the physical game, which will not be possible. You only have the choice between digital with game card and fully digital.
@Ralizah Exactly. A new Dark Souls / Bloodborne / Elden Ring I would have been the first in line, the exploration is what drives me in these games and makes me persevere to beat the bosses in order to continue exploring. Fights without exploration is not for me.
@mariomaster96 The header is big for sure but it's the same color and the same logo as the Switch. I'm pretty sure the header wouldn't be enough and some non-tech people would buy the wrong version.
Maybe that's the encoding quality, but graphically this looks quite blurry? I've played it on my PS4 pro, which is the previous gen, and to me it looked way better there.
I can't see why Nintendo would add a button for doing this. You can already connect a wireless headset without any dedicated button for instance. A new button costs money and adds a potential source of failure, so it must really be needed to do a specific action frequently enough.
One of my neighbors is named Mario and owns a driving school named Super Mario. As long as it's not related to video games, I don't see any issue with that.
There's no denying digital sales are slowly taking over physical ones, but the chart is not clear to me. The y-axis seems to be the average money spent per customer, but what's a consumer? Do gamers on smartphones count as consumers? If so of course the value can only do down, because those gamers are more and more, and they're not going to buy anything physical on smartphones.
I watched a YouTube video trying to explain why Silksong takes so long to be released. The main point is that they're really perfectionists. They had to release Hollow Knight before adding all the content they wanted simply because they had run out of money and could no longer work on it. Now money is no longer an issue thanks to the huge sells of HK, so now they can work on Silksong as long as they want to.
@harrystein Count 10 seconds to load a level. That can be an issue when you speed run the levels, which I don't do. If you play to find the KONG letters and the puzzle pieces, that's not an issue to me because 10 seconds to wait before spending 10 minutes in the level is OK to me.
@Ham-n-jam It's not a port it's an HD 60 fps remaster, and by no means a low-effort work just because DF takes snapshots and use a 4x zoom to criticize the alignment of 3 pixels.
Digital Foundry aka "OMG the framerate drops to 58fps for 0.2s during the boss fight I won't be able to play this game without having bad dreams all night".
Visuals look very good in this trailer, better than the previous XC on Switch to me. Did they upgrade their rendering engine? The blurriness of XC2 was a real bummer, I've always hopped to get an improved version at some point.
It doesn't really make it look better, it allows to produce a 4k output from a 1080p source. The system needs much less power to generate a 1080p image (4x less pixels) which is really good for a portable system, and as highlighted in the article lower resolution textures can be used, which again is good for a portable system using cartridges (as opposed to Blu-rays). Then dedicated cores upscale the picture to 4k using AI while the system is free to work on the next image.
@Bluelink45 If applied properly, you can't tell the difference between upscaled and native 4k without zooming on the image. Digital Foundry has made multiple videos on this technique.

Re: Switch 2's Best-Selling eShop Games So Far
