Been playing this a lot alongside my original 2003 Xbox copy on the XSX (light-side run on Xbox, dark-side run on Switch) and the combat text box has never been a particular issue for me. Honestly the biggest issue I have had outside of glitches from the original like warping to the sewers in the undercity when I haven't even left the camp yet and loading a save that plays the intro cutscene again, is the fact that the sound design is awful. The crowd sounds drop out during the arena duels on Taris leaving you with an awkward silent fight most of the time and as stated before by @Krysus the mid-battle quips and "what?" "I'm here" "Hmm?" as you switch characters is completely missing, not to mention the flavor dialogue of "Got it. It's open" and "Too easy" from unlocking doors and lockers.
What I find most interesting is this demo runs better than Stunt Race FX ever did on SNES. I understand it appears to be more trickery with sprites than an actual 3D engine but it just looks like it plays better, smoother, and that's seriously impressive to me especially as this is just a demo.
I don't really like shmups, aside from Darius, but I do love a good VN, especially in this genre. Zero Escape and Danganronpa are near the top of my all-time favorite franchises so I might just have to muscle in. Maybe this could be the game to get me to understand why bullet-hell shmups are so popular.
And @Ralizah, that is a brilliant concept for a game, and I sign on to your petition to make it a thing!
Hey, if it's priced right and plays well I'll love this. I've always had a weird fascination with brick-breaking games since Alleyway on my original GameBoy. It's the perfect pick-up genre for short bursts, aside from tetris or puzzle league.
Honestly I can look past the blurry distance textures and lower resolution if they can just fix the bugs and the pop-in. Honestly the fog present in the originals would do more good than harm for the Switch port, my biggest issues are not the new textures because that was an artistic choice so I have no right to say they should be changed. The bugs on the other hand and the slamming into cars that pop in front of me need to be fixed before I bother trying to play these games again. The framerate could be tweaked, I'm sure, but I didn't notice anything game breaking but I also grew up on the PS2 versions and as a fan of the N64 frame rates have never affected my enjoyment of a well-made game.
I was a bit disenchanted by Yooka-Laylee when it came out. It felt like an indie team (which it was) trying to recapture the magic of one of the best 3D platformers ever made (which it was) and just fell short with a game that was structurally sound, but still didn't feel organic at all. Now, I'm hoping for the best with this sequel. I will be keeping an eye on it because I adore 3D platforming games as a genre and if they can shake off the fledgling controls of the original and make something that truly plays as good as it looks, I will be very happy indeed.
Also, get JonTron back on this thing. He was unfairly removed from the original game and he deserves to return.
Finally! A ship sailing game that has decent looking combat. My days of swirling in circles for eternity to try and line up my cannons will soon be over. Can't wait to play this
Man.. I had a feeling this was going to pan out weird when I noticed no footage of gameplay before release. As excited as I was for handheld GTA, I have to admit I played the GamePass version of San Andreas yesterday and it was leaps and bounds sharper and more responsive than anything I have seen from the Switch port. Guess I'm sticking with my copy of Saints Row 3 for sandbox mayhem on the go, at least for now, and I'll get the trilogy boxed on Series X next month instead.
I pretty much assumed this would be the case, but the real question is how much of the game is on cart and how much will we have to download? The ratio of these two percentages will affect whether I bother waiting the extra month for the physical drop or just cut my losses and get it early on the eShop. I can make space pretty easily but this is one I would love a physical cart if it can be less than 10GB of space otherwise.
This is what I was afraid of. You think they would have learned their lesson when some of the returning games from Mario Party made it to Mario Party 2 they replaced the controller and palm destroying stick play into rapidly tapping the A and B buttons instead. Why not just keep that method? It would satisfy the same endurance without risk of injuring players or messing up their admittedly poorly constructed joysticks.
I'm hoping that ND Cube decided to go back to basics with this game to learn what was so good about the series in the N64 and GC era. I'm also hoping we get some board DLC with this one in the future. (Hoping for Western Land but if it happens it will probably be GC boards) I still feel like SuperMP not having DLC was a severe oversight as the barebones experience was practically begging for it.
Love this game on PS4, still hoping for a Xbox Series X version on par with the PS5 release, so far looks like that might not be happening but even with a crack to the visuals I would still consider this one of the best racing games out there. Do not compare this game to Burnout, this is FlatOut all over and is the best version of those games.
I hate that I am so starved for a good Mario Party game on the go that I will buy this. At this point we should have been expecting 'all' of the boards from 1 2 and 3, not the ones that someone thought were the 'best'. At least it has a good heap of great minigames and the boards they chose were not the 'worst' in that series, but the best? Tell you what if they bring back the victory cutscene format from MP2 where the superstar gets to fight Bowser all can be forgiven. Be even better if the other players played a small role in the cutscene depending on their placement.
My only serious gripe with Switch these days is that the joycon controllers are far and away the WORST controllers Nintendo has ever made. Its up there with the N64 joystick and the Wii classic controller as the most uncomfortable and fiddly pieces of 'professionally made' tech I have ever used. Granted I love the pro controller, but when I have to use those joycon for any reason I regret it almost immediately.
Might actually jump on this now if I can find it physical for about $20. Not having SNES Aladdin was a deal breaker on the original release for me as it was different from the Genesis/MD version so much whereas they had both versions of Lion King which were identical. I still find it hard to incentivize this as more than that. The original is going for that on the eshop as we speak so if this update keeps the price we shall see.
Maybe its just me, but I didn't see so much X-Com in the battle system as I did the battle system from South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Honestly if this plays that accessible I'd be more excited for it, especially seeing that they adapt the system where you can cause chain attacks by knocking enemies into each other like that game. The card thing doesn't bother me, if anything it will be nice to add a bit of RNG to your tactics and work around your strengths and weaknesses.
I must agree wholeheartedly with Austin, Hamtaro: Ham Ham's Unite is unabashedly my favorite GBC game of all time. Always wished Nintendo hadn't abandoned the series, those 3 games (Ham Ham's Unite and GBA follow-ups Ham Ham Heartbreak and especially Rainbow Rescue) were excellent adventure games full of interesting puzzles and zero combat. The last 2 games being mini-game collections and boring edutainment titles is really a sad end to one of my favorite handheld game series'.
From the US, and a huge fan of Asterix so I will be picking this up for sure. Might just go digital though, this doesn't seem like the kind of game I would play often enough to want a physical cart.
I love a good co-op game, and I've always had a weird obsession with firefighter games despite most of the ones that exist being pretty bad. This one looks pretty fun, and I will be keeping an eye out on it. Maybe not on Switch, but depending on the multiplayer focus it could be good for Steam or Xbox.
Funny story. I used to think that Zelda games were overrated and never played anything past the original NES game. But I was and still am a huge Star Fox fan. Star Fox Adventures introduced me to the gameplay style of Ocarina of Time and I love Zelda games now. Okay, guess it wasn't so much funny as sad.
@Paulo I was thinking the same thing, I forgot about Foreman Spike in Wreckin' Crew so my mind went to Spike and Iggy from the Super Koopa Cousins. Actually kind of hope they drop one or two small digs on the original 93' movie.
It certainly looks like more of the same. Whether that's a good thing or not has yet to be seen. I wasn't really a fan of the janky engine of the original, as fun as the core concept is it just didn't feel as tight and responsive as I would have liked. If it reviews well I shall have another look.
Hmm, I have been avoiding this one for some reason, but the drifting looks pretty solid and the stage hazards might be the arcade racing kick I have been looking for. Maybe I'll pick this up on my Series X since it comes out about the same time as Cruisn' Blast and I love me some good arcade racing.
I have always said that a modern interpretation of what they were doing with Star Fox 2 would be the best game in the series. Star Link came remarkably close, but lacked focus. I hope to live long enough to see Giles take another crack at it.
Oh.. Thank goodness.. I thought my system was starting to die yesterday. As much as it sucks this is now an issue, at least it is a known issue and can be fixed. My launch console isn't just a geriatric dinosaur doomed to fall apart just yet.
Great. Won't be getting it, though. Last few times I have tried to get a game going on Switch I would get kicked back because it couldn't find me a game. Either its dead on switch or I have truly rotten luck. Will buy the deck irl if I find it in the wild though, same with Flip which looks really fun
Kind of a no-brainer if you ask me. I still like to dip in on my PC from time to time to play around, but a Switch port would be a perfect fit since I never liked playing it on my phone due to lower specs for some of my favorite worlds and the touch screen.
Woah! No way! Not only is Timesplitters confirmed to be in production but they also revived Free Radical to do it?! And it actually has key staff attached? This is the best news I have seen on the site in awhile
How do they even keep track of this? Yeah, I bought mine at launch, bought one for a roommate I don't live with anymore, one for my daughter who lives with her mom, and also 1 and 1/2 (I payed half) for people I don't live with anymore, but technically the only one in my house that I payed for is the one I bought at launch. I don't recall Nintendo ever asking me lol!
I'm actually glad they are delaying the game. I would much rather this particular LEGO game be polished and amazing than release early and be a mistake. I am actually a little scared that because of the scope of the 9 films that each chapter will be more rushed than I would like so any extra time to bring it up to expectations is a good delay.
Ooh! As one of like, maybe 6 Americans who love Asterix, I am very excited for this. Glad to see that, at least according to the release info here, that the US is getting this as well. Slim pickings for the niche of fans on my side of the pond for sure, unless I import a Region 4 set from Canada.
@D_Cybercherries I felt like the levels were a bit confusing to traverse and I was constantly lost trying to find parts between waves. My experience is likely lacking due to having no friends to play with and I do not like playing online with randoms but I saw this update brings solo tweaks I want to try it out. I never got far enough playing solo to unlock many new parts to use in waves but as a general rule I adore wave/horde modes in games and this one didn't stick with me last time I tried it.
I was actually surprised how much I didn't like the game, but it has seen a couple big updates since I last peeked in, maybe it's time to redownload my copy.
Hope this is the last time this game gets another enhanced remake. Rather they just be like Yacht Club and up the asking price with every new release, but for early adopters give them the content for free. But what do I know, I can tell just by this comment section that a lot of folks are going to double dip or more with this game regardless so Nicalis is raking in free money.
I am kicking myself because I know I have seen the spine of this game at my local gamestop in the past and I never gave it a second glance, all the while disappointed that Mario Golf never appeared on the Wii. Turns out it did, and I just saw what looked like a shovelware money grab title and never even looked at the box to see that Camelot had made it. Haven't touched my Wii or Wii U in over a year, so at this point may just be smarter to wait for Super Rush and hope and pray that Speed Golf isn't the main mode.
