Update: It's now been confirmed that Gearshifters will launch digitally on Switch tomorrow, 1st October, with the physical edition coming a little later on the 15th. Physical options include a Standard Edition (which will contain the game only), or a Collectors Edition which includes the game, soundtrack CD, a unique limited edition clothing patch, and art cards.

Original Article (Tue 24th Aug, 2021 11:00 BST): Numskull Games and developer Red Phantom Games have revealed that Gearshifters, a "high-intensity top-down vehicle combat game," will launch on Switch this October.
Regular readers might remember that we had a quick look at Gearshifters back in May – the game has players racing across a dystopian landscape in the hope of delivering important packages, all while taking on dangerous routes and equally dangerous bosses. It's kinda like Death Stranding then, but much, much faster.

The release window news brings confirmation that the game will launch both digitally and physically on Switch, including a standard release and a Collectors Edition which will include the game, soundtrack CD, unique limited edition clothing patch, and art cards.
If you're interested, get a load of this official description to learn more:
In the 2060s, after "The Collapse" of capitalism and democracy, a rookie driver, known as a Gearshifter, delivers critical packages from a secluded HQ to imperilled neutral zones. Making dangerous transport runs means battling aggressive factions of weapon-laden vehicles and their mega-machine bosses. Players will race across the dystopian landscape in the hope of reaching the mysterious Citadel where world-changing secrets await discovery.
In this modernised shoot-em-up experience, players should expect rogue-like elements as they traverse a post-societal world in their solo adventure. Taking the most perilous routes, fulfilling high-stakes delivery missions to ensure the safe arrival of precious cargo – only the most skilled Gearshifters will survive.
- Arcade - for those wanting to get straight into the action
- Standard - for those wanting a narrative-led experience
- Deadly - for those brave hardcore players
Will you be keeping an eye out for this one as we head towards that October launch? Let us know in the usual place.

Looks like a Spy Hunter derivative with a left-to-right motif. Whether that's a good thing depends on the individual, I guess.
For me personally, right now there's just WAY too many other things on the market or upcoming that are competing for my gaming funds (in fact right now I've just settled into my backlog for the time being while I wait at least until the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales to start spending again). It simply doesn't stand out for me in a way that says, "Wish List".
I see it more of a shmup than a driving game (much like UN Squadron is more shmup than a flight sim lol). Love the idea of doing 180s. Good stuff. Looking forward to this one.
Looks interesting but would prefer it to be in 3D, I would love to see Twisted Metal return.
Just looks like another shoot em up but with a car instead of a spaceship
I like the mix between driving and shooting though the game does feel like a multitasking kind of game as you had to constantly accelerating and shooting at the same time. Not sure how that will play out as I don't like multitasking in game, if I'm playing a shooter the scrolling had to be automatic so I could focus on the shooting part unless the shooting is automatic then the accelerating is not a problem.
@NoLife I’m sure I read that Sony are interested in a twisted metal remaster plus a new version and also they are looking into resurrecting wipeout just a shame there is nothing like twisted metal on switch
@Gs69 CelDamage HD, but only in terms of gameplay, not visual tone
@milvus976578 oh yeah forgot about that I think a twisted metal kinda game with online play would be great or even vigilante 8 style
I love top down racers and I love shmups even more so a combination of the two with a little bit Blast Corps thrown into the mix is a sure fire winner.
The name of this game is atrocious. Could you get any more generic?
Looks interesting if a little one-note.
The controls are like a shmup game? Or it follow the ilogic rule that I need put to side to the car go up, when in this vision? A lot of cars games with vision abovw have.this problem.
Brings back sweet memories of Vigilante 8
Now this looks interesting!
Looks like old skool fun!
@Jamie_R Well, they could've called it Gear.Gun Re:Ignition :// Autobahn Warrior EX but this works fine.
Wait…like Death Stranding? Typo? Death…Rally?
Top down ?
Is this a far cry for a death rally HD remake ??
Definitely Spy Hunter vibes. I'll keep an eye on it.
Man, its just a shmup disguised as a car combat game. Is Cel Damage going to be the only Twisted Metal/Vigilante 8 fix I'm going to get on Switch?
Looks fun... but not sure about the $30 price... if it reviews and performs well on Switch, it will go on the Wishlist for sure.
Looks totally awesome. Physical is Europe only?
@SenseiDje A Death Rally remake has already happened ... and I wasn't too thrilled.

.... thankfully they also re-released the original for free

Needs to be UP/DOWN perspective. Not LEFT to RIGHT. What a terrible design choice.
@AtlanteanMan my first thought was spy hunter too. loved it back in the day on my zx spectrum…today, probably not so much.
@RantingThespian
Thanks for sharing!
Wasn’t aware of this remake. Too bad it’s seems bland…
@SenseiDje Yeah, it is bland, and has no style. But again, thankfully the original is easily (and legally) available, and FREE.
EDIT: Stranded on level three with no option to replay an “undefeated boss” or grind to the level I need to be at to win this level. Effectively, I’m trapped. Terrible design choice to prevent return to played levels. Just awful.
Just played this for two hours. It’s excellent. Silky smooth, cool upgrades and every run is rewarding. If you like sky force, black paradox, neon abyss, steredenn, and other run type games… get this. I’m loving it.
