@HeroOfTime32 "When asked if the Wii U and NX versions would deviate with regards to visuals or content, Aonuma replied that the game was the same on both platforms. "The users will be able to have the same experience with the NX version as they will with the Wii U version," he said, suggesting that they'll be equal in terms of visuals as well as gameplay. This is notable because in the last cross-generation Zelda game, Twilight Princess, the Wii version was mirrored from the GameCube release to be more compatible with Wii controls."
I'm on board, but I was very disappointed that Aonuma gave some very stupid reasons for Link being right handed. He was left handed in Wind Waker HD/Twilight Princess HD, as well as Hyrule Warriors, so unless they were planning for Wii Remote controls (which they are not thank goodness) there is no reason to change. Small nitpick, but it bugs me when characters are changed for no good reason, especially when they have carried these traits for over 20 years.
Also not happy to hear the NX version will be exactly the same as Wii U. No graphical overhaul, no definitive features, same across the board. Seems like a waste, but in the end this decision will probably net them more Wii U game sales since otherwise folks might be more inclined to wait till they get NX to pick up the game..
I still love watching footage from E3 1995, seeing SNES games like DKC2 alongside teases of Ultra 64 and Virtual Boy. It's an amazing atmosphere I wish I had been a part of, even if I was 7 at the time.
Also the first reveal of Star Fox Zero last year had me in tears so that would be up there as well.
I picked up the first game for pennies on PS3 so I'm not jumping at the chance a port of the original is in the cards for Wii U. I am however pleasantly surprised Nordic has any interest in Wii U at this point in the game. Good on them!
The only VR experience I saw that looked good was the Vive (Steam VR) because of the hand controllers which helped a lot with immersion as you aren't restricted to sitting in a chair with a pad and looking around. Haven't tried one myself yet, only VR I ever tried was a 'google cardboard' type device with a small hand controller with a thumbstick to move. It was neat, but it wasn't immersive.
Vive goes for around $800 so I don't think I'll be jumping on VR until they cost as much as a 'peripheral' should. No peripheral should ever cost more than the console/computer it's plugged in to. Technology will get there one way or another.
Oh I hope this is true. I could buy yearly DLC for Mario Kart games, especially if you dangle Kalimari Desert in front of me as it was one of my favorite tracks when I was a kid. (Combined with Royal Raceway, I call that a definitive edition.)
I would welcome a remake in the vein of Final Fantasy III and IV on DS or Dragon Quest VII on 3DS - same story and characters with a clean cel 3D presentation. I'd much rather have another Chrono entry into the series though. Chrono Trigger had everything I wanted in an RPG with memorable and interesting companions, time travel, and the greatest turn based battle system ever made.
Shame that awesome battle system died with Trigger. I always felt like my special attacks were useful when you timed them correctly with the constant enemy movement. Cross was good in the little bit that I played but it felt too much like a step backwards.
I admit I first played Galaxy through piracy, but quickly set out to buy a copy after I realized how well it utilized the 'then' queer controls, making me realize how natural the setup was after swearing off wiimote/nunchuck games at every turn. I recently snatched up galaxy 2 after it dropped to $19.99 new and both games look excellent on my shelf. Galaxy was the game that made me go back and appreciate Super Mario 64, a game I hated for about 17 years.
That being said, Super Mario 64 is still such a great game and I feel no 3D Mario game really did it justice. Sunshine was good in those small sections where FLUDD would go away. Never understood everyone's obsession with Super Mario: Custodian on the Gamecube, but hey it took 4 generations of Animal Crossing for me to finally 'get it'.
As for 3D Land/World, these are not at all in the same ballpark as the 3D Mario titles. they are a third pillar from the traditional 2D and 'new' series and the free roaming objective and exploration based 3D games. 3D Land/World combine the two with a clear lean toward the traditional 2D games as they are all mostly linear runs, timed, and finish with reaching the end of the level instead of a specific objective. 3D World is fun, great with some friends, but a 3D Mario platformer in the vein of 64 and Galaxy it is not.
Also nice to hear Egoraptor speak coherently for a change. I love the guy and I love game grumps, but I really miss him being 'on script' instead of playfully berating Danny or ranting off about some half remembered story while trying to play a game.
Is it strange how much I love cubes for game consoles? I still find the Gamecube and even the Ouya as very attractive systems. Shame more hardware doesn't come in cube form.
Also wanted to comment I found it alarming that the alleged console in 1988 was to sport HDMI and USB ports, then read the rest and realized those are the 'today' real world schematics, not the 1988 mockups.
This and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are at the very tip top of my bucket list so I just want them to exist before I die.
Granted Duke Nukem Forever sped that process along quite a few years, being an old bucket list entry I stabbed a hole through the paper when I checked it off.
Doubt Disney cares much about selling anything at this point and probably don't even realize some of the properties they own now from gobbling up so many companies, but it would be nice for Gilbert to be able to continue the series. I just hope it's not going to be like Escape from Monkey Island. That game was awful. Every one before it and even the telltale series were great. Also agree we really need Curse of Monkey Island Special Edition already.
My 2 cents say the fact that it is code named similarly to NX makes it very possible that the two are indeed related. NX and MH will probably be separate devices that can operate on their own, but can be synced together in a more meaningful way than, say, PS4 and Vita. I just hope we don't have to wait TOO long for concrete news on these new devices. Nintendo power would have scrounged up some real leaks by now if they were still around.
With Sonic, less is more. I'd prefer another Sonic 4 approach without all the chuffa (lighting torch puzzles and physics that feel off) Focus on making the gameplay fun, and a game deserving of celebration will follow.
Looks very polished considering many other indie games I've seen released to consoles, which admittedly aren't a whole lot. I especially love the fluid animation in the title screen. Love seeing new content released to these beauties.
Heh, I liked the NES game parts of the episode. Yeah, it might not be all THAT funny, but it actually really captured moments between friends playing games together, especially if you have the one friend who always cheats. (It's not cheating if it's part of the game!)
Same reason I can never play Wario Stadium on Mario Kart 64 with my best friend since he always waits for me to get to the jump and sends me half a lap back by hitting lightning. As for the copyright claim, it's just dumb technology being dumb. Fox really should have reached out to the youtuber for the footage beforehand instead of just stealing it, but at least they fixed the claim.
I never got into the metagame of Pokemon but I also never stuck with any one game long enough to 'finish' it, except getting to the Elite 4 once in FireRed. It's for these reasons I tend to shy away from competitive gaming, at least in terms of online with strangers. I tend to stick with small pockets of players who I know will have my back in a firefight, preferring a good co-op experience over spending 15 minutes in an arena and hating myself for it.
Granted this is all because I am no good at Multiplayer games unless we are talking about Mario Kart, but I know too well the sting of playing something and finding no joy in it because you aren't in it for the fun. At that stage, what is even the point anymore.
Oh wow, the game is looking really good. Last screenshots I saw, I was beginning to worry about it as the level designs were bland and the characters still looked stiff and slightly unappealing. I didn't know how far into development those screens were taken, but my hype for this game just shot up about 10,000c.
I could never get into Monster Hunter, which is a real shame because it looks really fun but I just cant get a handle on it. However, that is a very handsome color. I might try to track one of these down if they ever come stateside, but I am having some problems of the financial variety at the moment.
Still, beautiful console sure beats the bland 'red' and 'black' consoles we have in the states.
I am predicting an earthquake all around the world when NX is finally unveiled, caused by the collective slamming of every head into every desk on the planet.
All this secrecy and hype is likely to blow up in their faces. Hope I'm wrong, but my optimism about NX is waning quickly due to quotes like this.
I think this could work. I love the quality of animation Nintendo is capable of when they try, such as the FMV sequences from the Mario Sports titles. Only problem I can see is if they decide to do a Super Mario Bros. movie it will be hard to carry of a plot when Mario doesn't say much. Even if Charles Martinet did a script where Mario did speak and carry on conversations, I feel a full movie of that would drive me crazy.
SMB is better suited for shorts, but a Zelda title could work, even as a silent protagonist. Link is better suited to avoid conversation than Mario is.
Personally, I want Star Fox, Pokemon and Zelda to be made into movies. Looking cautiously optimistic as to where Nintendo will go with this.
I'd personally be happy to drop $5 on a mobile animal crossing and get a full experience. Shame, but I am still looking forward to playing it. As long as I don't have to pay more than what Minecraft Pocket Edition is going for I will consider it well spent.
This is pretty disappointing but I have a PS4 so I'll just grab it there. A little embarrassing that it took them 3 years to develop a game folks were shooting out every week in the mid to late 90's and can't even keep promises about delivering it on all promised platforms. Granted we haven't received update as to WHY this decision was made, if it was made at all, so I will reserve judgement for now.
They are really trying to convince me that the Ultra HDMI mod is a good sell. At about 3:36 he shows comparisons to Regular, Gameshark AA and HDMI, and right away the gameshark trick looks better to me, and he is just sucking up to the HDMI mod like it is God.
I wish this video wasn't such a farce. I am a strong believer in cartridges over discs and this video just made it seem like a big fat joke. Here's my list of reasons cartridges are better than discs since Alex doesn't see it fit to actually prepare a compelling argument beyond 'they taste better'. 1, Carts are faster/ less loading time. 2, Carts are more collectible than disks. 3. Carts are more resistant to physical damage. 4. Carts are much harder to pirate than discs. 5. Carts have been modified in the past with additional chips that boost the hardware's capabilities. 6. Carts can be many different shapes and sizes and leave a unique footprint for the system. After all you can easily determine an NES game from a N64 game just based on the silhouette. 7. These days cartridges can be literally the size of a micro SD card, able to snugly fit your entire game library into your pocket. 8. END LABELS! 9. Your child will have a tough time mucking up the contacts with peanut butter and jelly hands, especially compared to discs. 10. Cartridges require no moving parts in your console which means less possible hardware malfunctions. And 11. Game art just looks cooler on a cartridge than it does on a disc.
You can argue that digital is the way to go, and that is very true aside from the astronomical amount of on board storage required these days since many games can be well into and over 50 Gigs. I'm also an old man and prefer to actually 'own' my own copy of the game instead of a license to download the game for as long as I have internet access and the servers are operating. But that's just my 2 cents.
This is looking surprisingly great, much better than I was giving it credit for when I first heard about it. I just wish TT would dust off Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 (Just 2 would be enough really) and update them because trying to play those games now is an absolute chore.
I agree with pretty much every point in the article, and personally I'd love to see the Pokemon games take a major shift. A true 3D game with large towns and expansive landscapes to explore. (Think Xenoblade Chronicles 3D) No random battles, actually see Pokemon in the wild frolicking in the grass until provoked or hiding in the caves in shadows ready to ambush your team. Battles can still be turn based but instead of battling on preset backgrounds you battle right where the encounter happened without cutaways and a cinematic battle camera. XP Share needs to be returned to it's original incarnation of only affecting the Pokemon who holds it instead of the entire party.
I don't care that it's being launched in 2017, I just wanted to know what it WAS at E3. Now I have pretty much nothing to anticipate for E3, not even an official name. Hope Ninty doesn't shoot themselves in the foot by unveiling it later without giving the hype time to grow.
10 mil downloads means nothing if only 5% of that 10 mil actually still use the app. I had 10 friends when Miitomo launched and every single one of them dropped off the app in less than 2 weeks. I just pop in every other day to change my clothes and answer the questions for points.
Nintendo... All I have to say is the NX better literally take my breath away when you finally unveil it, because all of this teasing and delays and rumors of what it is and what it isn't is wearing thin on me. If I finally see the thing and it's some gimmicky remote play vita/PS4 'been there done that' oh-look-at-how-unique-we-are disappointment, I will just stop following NintendoLife and take my business to PushSquare...
I'll wait to see the NX controller before I choose which version I will be getting. As with Twilight Princess, Gamecube controller beats wiimote + nunchuck every time.
Also with Twilight Princess, gamepad is awesome for a zelda title, so bring it on.
@Dave24 @abbyhitter The returning cast from 999 (and VLR) is Junpei (player character) and Akane (June), the returning cast from VLR is Sigma (player character), Phi, and I suspect Q (Quark?). Carlos, Mira, Eric and Diana are new to ZTD. Not sure how I feel about the new Zero, it will be hard to beat classic gas mask Zero from 999 and Zero III from VLR.
Punny buns are the best.. Also if they skimp out on the Funyarinpa this time I'm going to write a mildly disappointed letter to my neighbor expressing my distaste for such a poor decision. Hopefully Clover makes an appearance somewhere in the game, it would be very cool to see returning cast from either game to be honest. Except Dio, he can stay dead on the moon or whatever. TT_TT Luna...
Star Fox to me was always supposed to be a series that utilized new and interesting technology, anyway. Star Fox is a lot like Pilotwings in that regard, created to showcase what the SNES console was capable of, mainly the Mode 7 graphics, and the original Star Fox was used to showcase the new Super FX chip and bring polygons to the 16-bit console.
PilotWings 64 was very much the same, showcasing what the N64 was capable of graphically in the era of early 3D games on PlayStation and Saturn, and Star Fox 64 was the first console game to incorporate force feedback with the bundled rumble pack.
After that, Star Fox didn't really innovate again aside from being an example of what could be accomplished graphically on Gamecube with Adventures, and attempted innovation with the DS' touch screen with Command.
Star Fox Zero goes back to those roots of showcasing new technology in a way no other Wii U game before it has done. I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, but my pre-order is already making my mouth water. It's not going to save the console, but it may just bring me a new exciting experience I have yet to have, and that is what Nintendo is all about.
One of the big quotes said about NX is that they are keeping it tightly under wraps so none of their competition can swoop in and steal their unique idea. Remote play a la PS4 and Vita does not meet this criteria. I will be very disappointed if this turns out to be the feature touted by Nintendo.
I want this but for me it will be about $70 for the cheapest copy after shipping and exchange rates. If I wasn't saving up for a trip next month I'd be all over this. I hope I can get a copy when/if the kickstarter hits its goal.

I'm also an old man and prefer to actually 'own' my own copy of the game instead of a license to download the game for as long as I have internet access and the servers are operating. But that's just my 2 cents.
Re: A 15 Year Old Patent Shows A Nintendo Phone That Never Was
@Pikachupwnage "IN INCOMING CALL" seemed equally out of place.
Re: Latest Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Features Everyone's Favourite Admiral
This is looking surprisingly great, much better than I was giving it credit for when I first heard about it. I just wish TT would dust off Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 (Just 2 would be enough really) and update them because trying to play those games now is an absolute chore.
Re: Talking Point: What Would You Like to See From Pokémon Sun and Moon?
It will never happen, but you asked.
Re: Reaction: The NX Release in March 2017 and How It Changes the Game
I don't care that it's being launched in 2017, I just wanted to know what it WAS at E3. Now I have pretty much nothing to anticipate for E3, not even an official name. Hope Ninty doesn't shoot themselves in the foot by unveiling it later without giving the hype time to grow.
Re: Miitomo Has Hit 10 Million Users Worldwide
10 mil downloads means nothing if only 5% of that 10 mil actually still use the app. I had 10 friends when Miitomo launched and every single one of them dropped off the app in less than 2 weeks. I just pop in every other day to change my clothes and answer the questions for points.
Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017
Re: The Legend of Zelda Wii U Has Been Pushed Back to 2017, Will Release On NX As Well
I'll wait to see the NX controller before I choose which version I will be getting. As with Twilight Princess, Gamecube controller beats wiimote + nunchuck every time.
Also with Twilight Princess, gamepad is awesome for a zelda title, so bring it on.
Re: Live Blog: Check Out Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins and a Nintendo Treehouse Showcase - Live!
This made me cry so much. I love it!!!

Re: Video: Meet the Cast of Zero Time Dilemma in This New Trailer
Re: Editorial: From Metroid: Other M to Star Fox Zero, the Awkward Experimentation With Beloved Franchises
Re: Rumour: More Sources Highlight NX Controller 'Gimmick' and a Major Game Project
One of the big quotes said about NX is that they are keeping it tightly under wraps so none of their competition can swoop in and steal their unique idea. Remote play a la PS4 and Vita does not meet this criteria. I will be very disappointed if this turns out to be the feature touted by Nintendo.
Re: Video: Slippy Gets Scary in Our Star Fox Guard Trailer
Can't wait to play Guard in the dark next week XD This was a very funny trailer.
Re: Nintendo 64 Anthology Aims To Be The Ultimate Resource For Fans
I want this but for me it will be about $70 for the cheapest copy after shipping and exchange rates. If I wasn't saving up for a trip next month I'd be all over this. I hope I can get a copy when/if the kickstarter hits its goal.
Re: Corpse Party Looks Set to Bring Some Mature Horror to the 3DS
I always wanted to play these games, looking forward to this one for sure!
