Re: Looks Like Fortnite's Getting An Annual Battle Pass For 2020 With Exclusive Skins

Ajent

@patbacknitro18 Agreed. One of the reasons I have absolutely no issue with the way Fortnite monetise the game is due to how fair the Battle Pass is.

The Annual Pass definitely needs to reflect this in price. Although I’m imaging it’ll be more like £50 and they’ll justify it with the bonus skins (which seems like they’re offering quite a few) and the fact that it means you can then spend the 1500 V-Bucks you acquire from each pass on items from the in game store.

Re: Co-Op Action-RPG Dauntless Launches Today On Switch

Ajent

@BenAV I definitely recommend giving it a try. There really is no ‘catch’. There’s an absolute ton of content that’s just available for free. One of the better F2P structured games.

Go in with expectations set at a reasonable level (it’s not as deep as MHW) and I think you’ll enjoy it.

The simplicity worked for me. IMO MHW over complicated itself with chores, so I enjoyed Dauntless a lot more.

Re: 11,000 People Ask Spotify To Support Nintendo Switch, The Response Is Underwhelming

Ajent

11,000 people wanting this is nothing. It certainly doesn’t make this request a ‘popular’ one. It equates to 0.02% of the overall Switch install base or approximately 0.01% of growth for new Spotify users. And it took two whole years to get THAT much support!

As plenty of others have said- if it had integrated functionality like on Xbox and PS4, then it could be cool. But Switch doesn’t have a ‘quick access/ multi-tasking overlay’ button like the PS button or the ‘X’ button, so this is something that wouldn’t just require Spotify to develop but Nintendo would have to integrate new features into the OS just for it to make sense.

I’d file this in the ‘not worth it’ box.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Beats Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order To Claim Number One Spot (UK)

@Galenmereth “ I’m just glad it did well despite the loud, Ill-informed, verbal minority.”

I’m not a fan of lynch mob tactics/ mentality, especially when they’re based on a misunderstanding. It’s good to see a victim of such behaviour prevail.

Plus... 81 metacritic rating based on 21 critic reviews. Plus, a lot of the complaints levelled at it don’t require me to have played the game (such as the visuals). Call it an informed opinion rather than an experiential one.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Beats Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order To Claim Number One Spot (UK)

Ajent

@Galenmereth lol. Really? I made zero comment about opinions being invalid. I said that some of the upset was nonsense. I’ve read up on a fair bit of it, so I feel I have enough insight to pass comment on THAT at least.

It has nothing to do with the incredibly subjective opinion of whether I, you or anyone else likes the game, so my experience in that regard is irrelevant.

I’m just glad it did well despite the loud, Ill-informed, verbal minority.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Beats Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order To Claim Number One Spot (UK)

Ajent

So good to see that it’s doing ridiculously well after all that nonsense that the ‘fans’ got upset about.

Unfortunately I can’t play until Christmas. My lads asked for the big jolly guy to bring it down the chimney on the special day, and he’s made me promise not to get it until then so that we can play and enjoy it together. Some things are worth waiting for I guess!

Re: Shovel Knight: King Of Cards And Showdown Launch Next Month

Ajent

@Arbor I’d double check that you don’t already have the ‘Treasure Trove’ version. I’m in the UK, and I’ve just had a quick check on the eShop here and you can only get the Treasure Trove or the stand-alone Spectre of Torment chapter.

Chances are you won’t need to double dip and your game will just update to include the new modes.

Re: Port Specialist Iron Galaxy Helped Phoenix Labs Bring Dauntless To The Switch

Ajent

@sarcasmasquach Oh definitely each to their own... life would be boring otherwise .

I just didn’t want you to be under a false impression is all. I’d definitely recommend giving it a go, but if it’s the deep complexity of MH that you prefer you’ll probably find this game quiet simple. Fun, but simple. And free, so what’s to lose other than a couple of hours to see?

Re: Port Specialist Iron Galaxy Helped Phoenix Labs Bring Dauntless To The Switch

Ajent

@sarcasmasquach it will have been targeting some of the players. I watched the video during E3 and can’t remember it specifically, but it’s based on the Shrike Behemoth which definitely uses targeted attacks against specific hunters. All of the behemoths do, but they also have AoE type attacks.

It’s actually a really fun, condensed monster hunting game. I actually prefer it to Monster Hunter BECAUSE it’s more simple.

Re: Get Discounts On Yoshi, Kirby And More With The Latest My Nintendo Rewards (Europe)

Ajent

@zool not really. A quick search on Amazon shows that you could get Zelda and Smash for £92.98 physical. Or Zelda and Mario Odyssey for £86.98.

It depends on the games you want. Since Mario Odyssey and Smash would be £83.98. Just 2p cheaper to buy physical.

So, it’s not really ‘over the top’, it’s the same as anything and will vary a tiny bit store to store.

Re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order File Size Revealed

Ajent

@gamer95 the ‘clever’ bit is the choice. You can add 64gb for £10, 128gb for sub-£20, 200gb for around £35-£40, or 400gb for £56 (currently on Amazon). Therefore Nintendo aren’t forcing gamers to pay an extra specific amount, but rather they’re allowing consumers to tailor their upgrades as per their usage and budget.

Re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order File Size Revealed

Ajent

@gimmi_c I think it does. Search for ‘Game Informer Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3’ on YouTube. They did a load of videos last week after getting invited to Nintendo to go hands on with it. I’m sure that in one of the video they talked about multiplayer on one Switch, but that it was kinda confusing due to the small screen and how hectic the gameplay can get (I think they were comparing it to multiplayer gaming docked/ non TV).

Re: Review: Saints Row: The Third - The Full Package - The Next Best Thing To Grand Theft Auto On Switch?

Ajent

@Indominus_B to be fair, you can’t really call people who want to read reviews before making and informed and ‘mindful’ decision, when you yourself are just going to buy the game regardless of any available information and ‘mindlessy’ spend your money without consideration.

It’s a bit hypocritical and an opinion based purely on ignorance. Discussion and research is always smart.

Re: One Mortal Kombat 11 Developer Had To See A Therapist After Violent Dreams

Ajent

@Noid I don’t think it’s that people are ‘defending NRS’, but more like people not really being super sympathetic to the ‘sufferer’ since it is a rather difficult reason to sympathise with given stereotypical reason people suffer with PTSD, the obvious content of the work they chose to carry out and then bleating about it to a journalist (if it is taken as a true report) as though it is a shocking revelation that he had to do this kind of work.

The reason that people are using examples of public service sector workers and military is because they know and understand the work they are carrying out (as this person should have done) but you rarely see or hear them complaining about it like this person. Also, their reasons for suffering are a lot more understandable. Another reason is the lack of mental health support available (at least in the UK) which causes another reason to feel less sympathetic since it delays the service to others who people might view as more worthy (see @KennyBania comment above).

It’s not to say he doesn’t deserve support or help, just that you can’t expect people to feel sorry for you when, in the grand scheme of things the cause was ‘YouTube’ videos (I’m being reductive, but you get my point).

Plus, all these stories are starting to dilute themselves. ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’. Just bloody unionise and get organised.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 To Receive Reward System Tweaks After Player Backlash

Ajent

@Ooccoo_Jr Just wanted to say that I completely agree. It’s not often I see comments from like minded persons who understand that not everything grows on trees.

I mean, I’m probably even more of an outlier though because I actually like DLC, but I think that’s because I buy games that I actually like and most DLC for decent games is completely additive (as it is in this game - you won’t miss out on the campaign or the ability to play versus just because you don’t have a new DLC character).

Re: Fortnite Developers Discuss The Constant Crunch Required To Maintain The Game

Ajent

@NEStalgia I’ve just read the rest of your comments and completely agree.

My ‘normal to get better’ comment (paraphrasing) was meant to reference that once you are in employment that does treat you fairly, protects you, but offers choice, then putting in those extra hours and extra work is how you make a name for yourself, prove yourself and develop your career. Sometimes you’re lucky and don’t have to, but a lot of people have to work hard to get noticed.

Anyway, I still completely agree with everything you’ve said. The comments have been a really good read.

Re: Fortnite Developers Discuss The Constant Crunch Required To Maintain The Game

Ajent

@KingdomHeartsFan I agree. I also think there needs to be an understanding that ‘crunch’ or any overtime isn’t isolated to just the video game industry. It’s present in most professions.

I work in a completely different type of job and last week I did 64hrs, and that’s fairly normal. I know that hundreds of my colleagues also do the same, probably more. I have also done in excess of 70hrs myself in the past.

My wife is a teacher. She does her 40hrs (8am-4pm) but generally gets into work between 7am-7.30am and finishes on most days between 5pm-5.30pm, plus the planning and marking that she then does 2-3 nights at home. By the end of it she probably does 55-60hr weeks most weeks.

Sure, it’s not a constant 70hrs a week, but I think the big difference there is that we are unionised. Therefore, there is no risk of being fired and we are treated fairly. I get paid for my time, but bizarrely my wife doesn’t (it’s just expected).

For us it then becomes a choice to show how committed we are to our jobs, which then transfers over to career progression.

It’s not entirely fair that Epic employees work in fear of being fired, but that’s why they need to take action and unionise- not just whinge about. They also need to understand that it’s also kinda normal if you want to be/get better.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Day-One Patch Will Be More Than Double The Size Of Base Game, Says Data Miner

Ajent

@Paraka yep, we just fundamentally disagree. Not only do I think this is sensible, but also necessary.

I actually wrote out quite a bit explaining why I believe this (as does the industry and evidentially a lot of other consumers), but it’s exhausting.

It’s OK to have different opinions. At least I’m on the happy side of the debate (as in, I’m happy with the news).

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Day-One Patch Will Be More Than Double The Size Of Base Game, Says Data Miner

Ajent

@Paraka is it intentionally broken apart? My understanding is that some (most?) of the DLC, whilst planned, hasn’t been confirmed (licences) and hasn’t actually been developed yet. Netherealm tend to support their games well over a 12 month period.

And where you see corporate conspiracy theory, I see sensible business practice that keeps a game being played (because it’s supported) and out of the second hand bargain bins.

Them showing a their road map of how they intend to support the game going forward is an incredibly good and fair thing to do. Most other communities based around long form online games cry out for this type of transparency.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Will Have A $100 Premium Edition On Switch

Ajent

@TAndvig They have shown it off though. It was playable at PAX and the early impressions are really positive. Look hard enough online and there is some brief footage of it. Clearly looks less detailed than the PS4/Xbox versions, but still pretty decent and it apparently runs super smooth as well.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Day-One Patch Will Be More Than Double The Size Of Base Game, Says Data Miner

Ajent

Complaining about this stuff is like ‘cutting your nose off to spite your face’.

There’s only one other option - devs and publisher don’t bother.

Wouldn’t affect me either way. I’m happy to get on Switch (I think the portability and immediacy of use trumps it for me). If people complained to the extent that WB/Netherealm just didn’t bother then I’d just get it on PS4 - where there will still be day one patches, huge installs and DLC.

Re: Random: Prince Harry Thinks Fortnite Should Be Banned

Ajent

@FX102A I think you might be thinking of a different game... Fortnite has no loot boxes. In fact, it is one of the most transparent and fair F2P games out there.

As for it being designed to make people want to play more... the majority of video games do that? It’s kind of the point.
