Has anyone tried to copy pictures/ videos to the Switch via PC? I’m just wondering if now that the functionality has been implemented if we can also reverse the process (legitimately) and use the Switch as a media player?
I’ve not decided yet. I’m probably going to get a PS5 first, then a Series X, but as for which will be my second... I’m not sure. Probably Series X first, for all the Game Pass and multi-plat games and PS5 will be my second console for the PS exclusives.
@milvus976578 FYI - the PS5 has loads of games that are more than "press forward to continue". Almost every single PS4 games is back compatible and a load benefit from a boost due to the power of the console. The Series X is the same.
I could give you a load of recommendations (since you’re obviously not aware of any of the incredibly popular, well-received and well-known titles), but you could very easily Google PS Plus Collection - most of the obvious titles are there.
@Xenobound94 ‘riddled’ with micro-transactions is a bit disingenuous. The micro-transactions in Fortnite are incredibly fair and totally ignorable. It’s actually one of the better examples of how to do F2P.
It might be worth waiting for some more reviews. Only the PC version has a metacritic rating at the moment, with an average of 85%. Most of the complaints in this review are not about performance, but of the game itself, so it that regard the PC reviews are comparable and this review is a bit of an outlier. Having said that I think the PC metacritic is only made up of 4 reviews. It does have 10/10 user score on Steam though.
@SwitchForce if you use PayPal on eBay (it’s the only way I will purchase anything on eBay) then you are covered as a customer. You just report it to eBay that you were not sent the product you paid for and you should get a full or partial refund. I think they require evidence that you’ve used the eBay chat function to try and sort it out with the seller, but if they haven’t resolved the issue within a certain time period (28 days I think?) then PayPal will refund. It’s been a while since I last had to do it.
@Dang69 I can see how that would ruin the game. I’ve had a few instances like that, especially with builds not being as snappy as I’d like. It just doesn’t happen to me enough that it ruins the game for. Although I only have around 600hrs on Switch (probably another 100-150hrs split between Xbox and PS4), so my base for comparison is not as deep as yours.
@powereat you’re obviously misinformed (still no reason to be rude!).
“You must be terrible at the game for you not to be put into a lobby with PC players”
“you've probably been put into bot lobbies”
You clearly don’t know how cross-play works on Switch Fortnite. If you play solo, or if your team mates are also on Switch then you only get placed against other Switch lobbies. Only Switch players.
If you have someone from Xbox or PS4 in your team and you’re on Switch, then you get placed in a Console cross-play lobby. If you have someone on your team who is on PC (and you’re still on Switch) then you go into a global cross-play lobby with all consoles and PC.
It works the same for the other consoles and PC as well. Playing solo on any platform puts you in a lobby on that platform only (except PS4 and Xbox, who I believe are both lumped together). Cross-play only comes into effect when you (wait for it, penny is about to drop!) play with friends a-CROSS platforms.
You’re welcome
Edit: PS4 and Xbox are part of the same lobby group.
@powereat lol. I’M the troll? For having a opinion? How old are you?
I play on Switch because my son plays on Switch. It’s easier on Switch because the player skill level seems lower. Yes, I agree, it isn’t as good as other consoles or PC, but it is far far far from unplayable. Your experience seems localised to you. As you say, you’ve had arguments with other people about it (rather than accepting that it’s probably just your setup?/ other people don’t experience those issues?). I do get the occasional lag spike, but it’s occasional. I probably win 1 out of every 8 games and consistently place in top ten, so it is no way so poor that that it renders it impossible to win build fights.
Read @Dang69 comments. They said that when they started playing on PS4 the skill of the players was ‘humbling’ and that when they played on Switch they consistently won (conversely, they also don’t like the state of the Switch version - so in that regard they seem to agree with you to an extent).
See... discussion. Not flaming people and calling them ‘troll’. That’s how this should work.
@Dang69 Yep! I play mostly on Switch with my lad and it’s a lot more chill. Playing on Xbox or my PS4 is way more sweaty. It’s the better way to play (in terms of both quality and the fact you’ll get a lot better at the game), but I like playing Fortnite as my ‘comfort’ game when I just want to chill.
I mean... I’ve not noticed any issues. People ‘not being able to aim’ is the reason I play on Switch. So much easier than playing on Xbox (and definitely PC).
@DonSerrot a Switch Pro could (theoretically) definitely play games from the XSX and PS5. Not the first party ones, that are likely to be exclusive to the new gen machines, but third party titles definitely. This is probably more true of Xbox games than PS5 games, but I’d imagine they’ll be the same anyway.
The new gen machines are basically optimised PC’s and the third party games that get released on them will work in a similar way to PC - they’ll just play the version of the game with the settings that your hardware allows.
If you’re familiar with Xbox’s Smart Delivery system then you’ll know that any third party game on Xbox will play on Series X, Series S, One X and One S. Therefore, there is no reason to assume a game on Series X won’t play on a Switch Pro if the same game can run on a One S. We’ve already had loads of third party games that run fine on the base Switch that started on One S/ PS4.
For this reason alone Nintendo needs to keep up and release a Pro model soon (I reckon around Sept-Nov 2021 to capitalise on the pre-Holiday period).
@Milenko I can’t remember much from that article. Was the game file completely unchanged? I get that the home brew app/ emulator is home brew, but I thought you’d have to change the game file in some way to make it play?
@Pandaman yeah, I agree that if current controller concepts weren’t iterated on then that could cause some level of stagnation. But I still don’t understand what reason we have or examples of that becoming the case just because accessibility (both in terms of where we play and how we play) is also something of importance.
I just don’t see the bigger picture is one of doom and gloom. There’s no precedent at on which to build that theory.
Anyway, nice article, if only for the thoughtful debate ;oP
I do feel I might be a bit cranky as well (rough day at work) so I apologise if any of my comments came across as harsh.
@Pandaman yeah, sure, previously invented... but you stated that cloud gaming, or to be exact subscription based gaming, will hinder innovation because it is tied to a single generic controller because all the games on the service need to work with a single controller.
They don’t.
So why should there be a fear that innovation will cease to occur when in actuality the act of playing a game on a cloud PC or downloading it and playing it locally is absolutely no different in practice to the way we have always played games?
The article refers to Nintendo’s innovation as a shining example (and I get it, this is a Nintendo website and I love my Nintendo games as well) and yet they’re so incredibly far behind when it comes to accessibility options and online infrastructure. Two areas that could be argued are more important than a Wiimote, balance board or Ring Fit controller as they actually enable games to be played or played together in circumstances where a person may not ordinarily be able to. Where’s the innovation there?
I just think there are real life example counter points to pretty much most of the points in the article.
You don’t need a generic controller. Case in point - the MS adaptive controller. Another example is mouse and keyboard. Both the standard configurations of what may be regarded the current standard controller also work (off-angle sticks or side by side sticks - aka. Xbox or PS configurations). Arcade sticks also work.
You don’t need a single controller for all games. A single controller might be passable on all games, but it isn’t necessary and it won’t stop hardware innovation. The MS adaptive controller is proof of this. Just because you download a game from a selection doesn't mean innovation itself ceases to exist.
This article is written as though it is based on fact. So much is disputable and some of it is plain wrong. I started typing out a more full response until I realised I was writing my own article, so plentiful are the errors
I just think it’s an odd take that you think it’s better that he takes people to court and upsets their lives (a rather ‘toxic’ reaction) rather than he proclaiming that he only wants the truth to be known (which seems a reasonable and simple response?).

@Northwind If I’m correct, then ‘All formats’ means Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox. It doesn’t mean the format of the individual game (ie. cartridge, DVD, Blu-Ray or digital).
@Friendly Amazon have partnered with Ubisoft. It sounds like there will be an additional subscription on top of the standard subscription to get the Ubi games.
EA has already partnered with Microsoft. I think it was announced about two weeks ago that the EA subscription service (EA Play I think it’s called) is now included in Game Pass for no additional cost.
It could be like Skyrim. The ‘Enhanced’ edition launched a year before the Switch version - whilst also having some of the ‘Enahnced’ editions features was not actually called Skyrim Enhanced Edition. It was just Skyrim.

Got my copy off Amazon. Then they go and drop the price by £5 this morning and refuse to match their own price saying I have to cancel the order/ return it and order a new copy at the cheaper price!
Mental.
At least I got a copy though. Can’t grumble too much.
I’d love more games on the Switch. EA make some pretty decent games as well. Imagine the original Mass Effect trilogy on Switch! Or even the original Dragon Age games (or even Inquisition - I reckon Switch could run that).
Nintendo are so... confusing sometimes. What is there obsession with this fake anti-consumer ‘limited time’ rubbish. It’s weird. They do it ALL the time but never get called out on it. It’s weird.
This would be awesome and a definite pick up for myself. Played the first and most of the second on Xbox, but never played the third.
But I love the first one. I love it on Switch.
I’ve never cared for the NES games. I found them difficult for the sale of being difficult and a bit clunky in design and control (but that was standard for NES games in the day).
I don’t want to presume your age, but I am an older gamer myself (kids, job and all the other stuff that gets in the way!), but if you are similar to me then that’s exactly why I&F games are pretty good.
If you’re a NES/SNES gamer of old and appreciate metroidvania’s then both the Dig titles are fairly decent games. The first took me about 4hrs to complete and the second one was a bit longer, but still only 6-7hrs. Heist was around 7-8hr mark. As I’ve said above, they’re an easy recommendation for me. I’ve enjoyed them immensely- to the point that I will always buy an I&F game because they’ve been so consistently fun.
@dew12333 I don’t think they did (although happy to be proven wrong). It was announced at the Xbox event and has always been an exclusive since it became public knowledge about its existence. Again, if you can point me in the right direction I’m happy to be proven wrong.
Again, there’s nothing wrong with devs securing funding for an otherwise risky project. It’s good for the industry for development to be funded with less risk. This in turn could mean other games get greenlit for Switch. It’s all good.
@playstation_king Really? I see that Image & Form clearly wanted to try something new (3D, not SteamWorld) and were given the option of massive risk mitigation by making it an Xbox exclusive. Sure, that means money was a massive factor, but when that money simply means Image & Form get to develop their skills and portfolio with a more diverse catalogue, then that seems like smart moves for themselves, MS and the industry and fans in general.
@Octane that’s not entirely correct. If I buy 1000 V-Bucks on Switch it was previously £7.99.
If I buy 1000 V-Bucks on iPhone it was previously £9.99.
It was already more expensive on iOS due to Apple’s price hike. If Epic have reduced all purchases, across all ecosystems to the same price (which is what they appear to have done, since they’re no longer on the App Store, indicating Apple aren’t taking their cut now - which is also the point you’re making), then that means the price on iOS would be £6.49, as it is on Switch currently - which is actually a 35% discount. So Epic are still earning less.
Of course, this is only if Epic intended to bring all prices across all eco-systems in line with each other - which I can’t see how or why they wouldn’t if they are shouting and dancing about how you pay them directly now.
@lacunae not what I said or meant... one house, one Switch, three people want to play... this was a widely reported issue when it launched. To be fair...
@-Juice- I would agree, and you’re right, it is more nuanced. @johnvboy ‘s comments are mostly in reply to people who are challenging his earlier comments though. What you see as combative could also be seen as a simple difference of opinion (with the pre-requisite ‘internet enabled attitude’).
To be fair, you seem like a decent person and I was just messing with you. I like playing ‘devil’s advocate’ every now and then. No hard feelings.
@-Juice- hmmm... I’m not sure that simply overwhelming a comments section could accomplish that on its own. If someone (wink, wink...) was trying to tell another person not to comment because they disagreed with their opinion, then that could be considered as an attempt to silence someone. That could be considered wrong.
Good job @johnvboy wasn’t doing that ‘ey! I have seen others doing it though.
@outsider83 lol... you’re kidding right? Every controller available on the Switch is an iteration of a controller that existed before it on a different platform.
One of these controllers is an 8bitDo which is a mashup of a SNES and a PS controller, made by a third party (the most ‘Nintendo’ out of the controllers and yet decidedly un-Nintendo). The middle one looks more like a GameVice rather than joy-cons (which also existed before the Switch did) and the last one looks more like an Xbox controller than anything else.
It’s weird. A simple question is asked - “What was NINTENDO’s worst year”.
Comments= people stating THEIR worst year as a fan of Nintendo (ie. whether they’ve enjoyed the games that have come out, etc.).
There is no way that 2020 is NINTENDO‘a worst year. They’ve made a killing. They literally were unable to keep up with demand (admittedly, a big part of that was due to COVID related production issues- but they still made an absolute bomb!).

@powereat Erm... it’s not something you ‘take advantage of’ or something that ‘I did’.

@Razer All the SteamWorld games are actually really good. They review really well also. Honestly worth a try, I find them an easy recommendation.
Re: Image & Form's New Game Is "Permanently Exclusive" To Xbox And Windows
@playstation_king Really? I see that Image & Form clearly wanted to try something new (3D, not SteamWorld) and were given the option of massive risk mitigation by making it an Xbox exclusive. Sure, that means money was a massive factor, but when that money simply means Image & Form get to develop their skills and portfolio with a more diverse catalogue, then that seems like smart moves for themselves, MS and the industry and fans in general.
Re: Classic Run-And-Gun Blaster Turrican Is Making A Comeback
Nice... very interested to see what form this takes!
Re: Fend Off Bloodthirsty Aliens In Collapsed, An Action-Platformer Coming To Switch Next Week
That looks pretty good. Colour me interested.
Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"
Re: Switch Software Sales Are Comfortably Beating The PS2's, The Best-Selling Console Of All Time
@lacunae not what I said or meant... one house, one Switch, three people want to play... this was a widely reported issue when it launched. To be fair...
Re: Switch Software Sales Are Comfortably Beating The PS2's, The Best-Selling Console Of All Time
To be fair... no PS2 game made you buy multiple copies of more than one person in your house wants to play it... unlike Animal Crossing!
Re: Sword And Shield Are Now The Best-Selling Pokémon Games Since Gold And Silver
Re: Sword And Shield Are Now The Best-Selling Pokémon Games Since Gold And Silver
Re: Sword And Shield Are Now The Best-Selling Pokémon Games Since Gold And Silver
@-Juice- I wonder if you even recognise the irony in your comments?
Re: Random: Some Of Microsoft's New 'Designed For Xbox' Controllers Look Pretty Familiar
Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?
Re: Nintendo Switch Parental Controls Mobile App Gets A Small Update
Great app. I use it all the time for my sons Switch. Being able to set and immediately update play time allowances is a great way to adjust behaviour!
