Re: Surprise! A Special Version Of The Legend Of Zelda Has Appeared In The Switch's NES Library

The online can get better for sure, and more third party games would be better as well, but it’s hard to complain at $1.67/month for Nintendo online, specifically. The service is a bargain. It cost more to get a single coffee at Starbucks, a value meal at McDonalds, etc...

Better third party games is a different problem that has nothing to do with the pricing and value of Nintendo online. My answer to that, along with well over 50% of gamers in the US, is to own multiple platforms. I own them all and I’ve got no complaints as a results.

As someone who’s beaten Zelda dozens of times through the decades, including in its original release in the 80s, I’m not really sure I see the point. You’ll breeze through the game and basically miss a lot of what makes this game great (exploration & discovery, the sense of reward in powering up), even 3 decades after its original release.

I’ll never forget my 6th grade year using my friend’s hand drawn maps and word of mouth tips to complete this game. There was no internet, magazines were few and far between...it truly was up to you, your buddies and maybe the game counselors on the Nintendo hotline if you really got stuck.

This mode is like the total opposite of that. If you’ve never played it, I would highly recommend the original mode first, as the OG Zelda remains a great game.

I own quite a few G&W and this one is pretty neat, with the potential to have two players, and it’s unique with a more square shaped design. If you love Nintendo and are interested in their pre Famicom history, G&W is a great place to start.

I’d love to see more mini reviews of these on NL!!

@SimplyCinnamon53 G&W items rarely sold above 1 million units, so they're highly collectible and will cost you money. You either have a passion for this hardware or you don’t, but it certainly isn’t cheap.

Re: Dead Cells On Switch Is Outselling The PlayStation 4 Version

This argument that there’s nothing else is to play is a false argument.. Most of us own multiple consoles. Smartphones. Tablets. I own everything including PSVR. I still bought this game, waiting for the hard copy, as it looks like a great game. I could play a billion other games or systems, but I chose the Switch and many of its games, even indies, because THEY ARE GOOD GAMES. Perhaps indies don’t appeal to you , and that’s fine, but to suggest we’re all a bunch of idiots who just have nothing else to play, and just brainlessly fork over cash for mediocrity, is the argument you put forth when you have no argument left.

The Switch and indies are a match made in heaven. And that’s why we buy them, as we enjoy our time with them.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

I really like the Polygon reviews in the past, but without a score, it’s hard to say how good or bad a game is. I always read the text, but the score helps nail down exactly how good or bad the reviewer felt the game was. This score removal provides less information to the reader. I will still read Polygon’s reviews regardless, but a score would be better.
