With SNK 40th Anniversary Collection just around the corner, NIS America has shared a new trailer which gives us a quick look at the first set of free DLC titles headed to the game.
If you haven't already heard the news, the base collection - which is set to launch on 13th November - is going to be expanded with another ten games set to be added as free DLC. We first heard about this DLC last month, with Chopper I, Fantasy, Munch Mobile, Sasuke vs. Commander, and Time Soldiers all being revealed as the first half of the new batch, but now you can see them all in action for yourself.
If that's not enough for you, treat yourself to a quick description of each title courtesy of NIS America's PR:
Munch Mobile:
In Munch Mobile, control a car with a human limb and cruise through various scenic routes to reach your ultimate destination: the garage. Pick up various objects along the way, such as fruit and gas canisters. What a handy vehicle, don't you think?
Fantasy:
Your sweetheart has been captured and it's time to get her back in Fantasy! To rescue your loved one, trek through the wild jungles and soar above the sea—seems like nothing can get in between you and Sherry!
Sasuke vs. Commander:
As the title suggests, in Sasuke vs. Commander, you are the legendary shuriken-wielding ninja Sasuke. You must protect your master, the Shogun, against enemy ninja. Fulfill your duty in this classic set in feudal Kyoto!Chopper I:
"Emergency! This is not a drill!" It doesn't get much more metal than this! Shoot up tanks, ships, planes, and more to defend against enemy troops. See if you've got enough firepower to carry out your mission in Chopper I!
Time Soldiers:
Traverse through time with the "D-Scanner" to rescue your comrades in Time Soldiers. There's just one caveat: if you're not in the correct place in history, you must defeat that era's boss before making the leap to the right time period your fellow soldier is trapped in.
These DLC titles will be released on 11th December, giving you just under a month to play through the main collection before they arrive. More details on the second batch of five DLC titles is expected to be released soon.

I'm pretty excited about this collection, it actually might be the thing I'm more excited about videogame-wise of the second half of 2018 (even with Smash Bros. scheduled), but I think they need to clarify if the base collection game list is closed with the titles we already know of, and if the 15 free DLC ones are going to be the rest of it.
With the wording they used I still expect to see a longer list of games included in the cart. That definitely has room for the other 15 being under 1 GB in digital form, so it's a strange decision to make 15 of them digital downloads, Capcom style.
in other words the physical cart just comes with a handful of titles and the rest you need to go online to get the full set. Its nice to get some extra games, but I really dislike those half-physical-halfdownload sets like Capcom did in the past.
What a crappy practice.
@barneygumble And present
I just hope Satan of Saturn is in the last five. The selection of arcade games from the golden age is pretty weak here so far, despite heavy reference to pre-1984 arcade gaming by their marketing department.
Not sure how I feel about adding retro games to a collection myself.
Still frustrated we're not getting Twinkle Star Sprites here in US
@marandahir That would belong to ACA Neo Geo series (remember SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is about PRE-Neo Geo titles), but it hasn't been announced even for the foreseeable future in any territory.
I just have to get it on day 1!!
Still waiting on NES Baseball Stars to be added.......that game was great
This is a funny one. If it hadn't included those games I'd still have bought it and been satisfied. Yet somehow I've ended up a bit annoyed about being given something I wasn't expecting in the first place.
On a side note, I would love releases of Forgotten Worlds and Side Arms with twin stick control like they've done here for Ikari.
I’m old, and I love old games, but I’m just not excited about this collection. I do want to try the games that have been updated to twin stick control, but I’m not sure it’s enough to get me to bite. Who am I kidding though? I’ll probably still end up talking myself into it at some point.
@Gerbwmu - Such a great game. I had hours and hours of fun with that one with my friends. One of my grade school friends always got two season tickets for our minor league hockey team every year for his birthday. He always took me to the weekend games, and our pregame ritual was Baseball Stars and River City Ransom while listening to the first House of Pain album and drinking an ice cold Coke on ice in a pint glass. So fun.
I was excited about this collection. After I looked at those ancient relics I decided to go on a gluten-free diet. It is just to toxic for me. At least there is Crystalis and well...Crystalis.
Car with a human arm...? Sounds 80s, sign me up!
Preordered and looking forward to it! I wish everything was on the cart, though. 😤
I think MAYBE I played Munch Mobile somewhere back in the day. Other than that these are all new to me, but keep 'em coming!
I preordered this one as soon as it was announced. The fact that they keep adding games is s great thing.
Time Soldiers on the Master System was amazing. Great memories!
Basically, a retro collection with games being added as free DLC?
I guess there are people who forgot how to do the Virtual Console, while other people showed the former how it's really done! First Rare Replay, now this!
@Pazuzu666 It's free DLC. I'm not sure what you're upset about, but then I find that's true almost every time other gamers are upset about something.
@marandahir ??? Thats a Neo geo game that has nothing to do with SNK.
@Donald_M I, and many people, understand that feeling. And I have it too. We're excited about this collection, but given the amount of space required and the fact it's been announced for months or maybe a year, it's kind of sloppy to make part of the games (and a big part) as DLC. Free or not.
The digital version of the base collection is less than 1GB, so all the games would've fit in a 4GB card, the smallest and cheapest one for developers. So this time the argument of making production costs cheaper by not putting all the contents in the card (like when they use 4GB cards for 6GB games, for instance) is invalid.
I just don’t get this modern world of gaming sometimes. Free DLC that’s ready to go wen the game comes out???
@YANDMAN @Moroboshi876
Sorry, I got confused between collection articles.
My bad, apologies SNK et all.
@Moroboshi876 This obviously has nothing to do with the space on the cards.
It's either marketing (releasing stuff after launch gets you back in the news like Splatoon and Fortnite, giving soething additional for "free" looks good), or they really would not have been able to have these games ready in time for the physical release date (remember, the physical production of the cardridges takes time and they obviously wouldn't want to delay the release date considering it's currently perfectly placed for Christmas).
@EmirParkreiner Yeah, I understand what you argue, but they announced the extra ganes way before release, and the collection itself almost a year ago, so they had ample time to do it right.
@Moroboshi876 |I understand what you're saying, but I also think you may be overestimating how much disk space a handful of 30 year old arcade games are going to take up.
That aside, I get the annoyance, but like it or not it's been clear for a while that anyone who thought they were going to be able to get away without buying an SD card for this system was wrong.
@Donald_M I have a SD card. And only buy digital games when they're retro. So I'm never going to need more than my 128 GB.
But seriously, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection takes less than 1 GB. It's official. The extra games maybe take another. The minimum Switch cart is 4 GB if I'm not mistaken. The extra games are very welcome, but the way they add them is sloppy.
@Donald_M missing the bigger picture much?
