Nintendo's presence in the Japanese charts this week has been knocked - if only slightly - by two PlayStation 4 titles which have managed to grab the top two positions.
PES 2019, a new entry for the system, managed to sell 73,389 copies at retail, surging straight into the number one spot, with Conan Exiles also maintaining its high scoring streak. Nintendo still managed to secure 13 of the top 20 positions, however, with games for both Nintendo Switch and 3DS littering the scene.
Here's a look at the top 20 (first numbers are this week's sales, followed by total sales in brackets):
1) [PS4] Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 (Konami, 08/30/18) – 73,389 (New)

19) [PSV] Piofiore no Banshou (Limited Edition Included) (Idea Factory, 08/30/18) – 5,153 (New)
20) [NSW] Pro Yakyuu Famista Evolution (Bandai Namco, 08/02/18) – 4,830 (82,581)
The Switch is still dominating on the hardware front, however, still leading the charge by a comfortable distance. Interestingly, both the Switch, and its largest rival - the PS4 - sold less this week than last. Here are this week's figures, with last week's in brackets.
1) Switch – 42,151 (46,259)
2) PlayStation 4 – 12,189 (14,122)

7) 2DS – 496 (362)

Any surprises this time around? Do you expect the Switch to have a game returning to number one next week? Let us know with a comment below.

Note: Conan Exiles was top of the Japanese chart last week, so technically that knocked Nintendo off the top, not PES.
Nintendoom! Just a gimmick phase! Nintendo's dying! Third party to justify my narrow minded choices!
Am I doing this right?
@Paraka Nailed it.
Given that the western-made football game was on the Switch last year and will be there again this year, it's a bit surprising to me that Konami decided that PES should skip the platform.
Good to see Waro Ware still hanging on there. It might of not made much of a splash elsewhere, but hopefully this is enough for Nintendo to see there's at least some demand in its home country...
EA does... what Konamidont?; give Switch a soccer game. So bizzare...
@ReaderRagfish None of the Nintendo games there are new releases you utter imbecile.
lucky for pes it did well in japan not like in europe where mmmmmmmmm most football games are sold
Oooooooooooooooooh. Little Dragons Cafe sold better on teh Switch. :>
Little dragon Cafe looked like garbage from day 1. No idea why people keep trying to hype all this random stuff most people do not care for.
Pro Evolution should be on Switch. Wonder where SpiderMan will show on the list next week 🤔
@ReaderRagfish loooooool, 2018 and I still saw that coming
There hasn't been a version on a Nintendo console since PES 2013 ('14 did come out on the 3DS). If/when a version comes out for the Switch, it'll be a clear sign of the Switch taking it's place as a "real" console.
Surprised to see Warioware so high on the list.
PES 2019 would have done pretty well on Switch. It's a shame they continue to dismiss Nintendo consoles for their game especially with sales down practically year on year.
I did not realize Xbox is such a failure in Japan. Wow. Why do they bother?
@Paraka A+++
I'm sorta more shocked about Conan Exiles being in the top 2 of the list. Then again, it's a sandbox game, Japan REALLY love sandbox games these days.
At least Konami is going places. And not a panchinko machine joke in sight.
Switch sales: 42,151
Rest of market combined: 27,404.
Nintendo console sales: 50,443
Rest of market combined: 19,112
Nintendo had 72.5% of the market share last week.
Now that’s market domination.
I thought Japanese loves Baseball more than soccer.....
In my opinion, soccer is always the worst sport ever.
Boring, dull, repetitive, blah....
Baseball is looks better and more interesting for me in my opinion.
@Paraka It's doing amazing in Japan, and software is selling great in the USA and Europe, but it feels like the console sales in the west have gotten a little flat. I wish I could at least see the weekly consoles sales in the US.
Konami is a japanese company. Switch wil surpass PS4 install base on next year or two. Why they can't port PES (alas even the PS3 version ) to Switch? Ok it didn't sell well on 3ds. But Switch is a different beast.
@ReaderRagfish I clicked it hoping it would be that video and I wasn't disappointed.
Probably would have doubled that sales figure--or better--if Konami had released it on Switch.
@ReaderRagfish
Nintendo didn't release the Switch ten YEARS ago, when that video meme was actually a thing. Update your shtick, grandpa.
I love the way that no one can just admit that it sold the most and leave it there.
No people have to start claiming if it was on Switch it would have sold double. It's sad.
Oh come on guys... Its really clear whats going on here.
Sony is being annihilated in their home turf week after week sandwiched between the Switch and the 3DS... But Sony are on top everywhere else.
Pes is popular in Japan (and only in Japan), Fifa is not popular in Japan (growing though) and popular everywhere else. Does it need to be spelled out before people can figure it out?
Does this actually need to be leaked for people to put two and two together? do people actually think this kinda crap isn't happening a lot more than its being leaked?
Smh...
PES 2019 actually performed pretty well in Japan, as it sold the same as last year's entry. Pretty stark contrast to the rest of the world, where the franchise continues to absolutely tank.
@ReaderRagfish I have that URL memorized for everywhere. You can't fool me!
@ReaderRagfish Damn you, I fell for it!
@ReaderRagfish Don't bother. The NDF will accept anything Nintendo does. They'll pay for online, they'll buy expensive cardboard, they'll catch Pokemon with stupid mobile minigames, they'll play console video games outdoors! They're hopeless. They'll never understand that true video games can only be played with powerful midrange PCs like PS4 and X1. Even JAPAN knows this! The Nintendrones are so hopeless...
@ReaderRagfish and we have another party pooper on the site.
@NEStalgia are you a party pooper too?
@NEStalgia not sure how to comment on that “true video games can only be played with powerful midrange PCs like PS4 and X1.”. I’ve been playing video games for 30+ years, a Nintendo console right along side a pc. During the Wii era, I was forced into getting a PS3 to play some exclusives. But since most PS4 exclusives are ports too, and the few new games I can’t play on the go with my switch, I’ve haven’t played ps4 since switch launch. I guess all these years, i haven’t been playing real games.
Here’s a quote for you, “real gamers play a variety of games on whatever system they want to play them on. Fanboys say their console is better then yours.”
@Anti-Matter Baseball has been the most popular sport in Japan, but soccer has been gaining on it for a while. It wouldn't surprise me if it has already surpassed it. And I've heard more Japanese kids wanna play soccer over baseball because soccer is less strict, so maybe those same kids are also more interested in soccer video games.
@Donutman @ekwcll sigh, look over your head! It's a bird! It's a plane! No..no, it's......the joke going right on by.....
@readerragfish you, sir are pure evil.
I still can’t get over the sales figures for splatoon 2 , 2.5 million lifetime sales in Japan alone Nintendo really know their audience for a relatively new ip it’s doing great
Very good for Konami, now please, a PES for Switch or at least, a "revival" of the ISS
@NEStalgia I guess it just over my head, I’m only 5’9”
@baller98 I don’t know who is a mod on here. I scroll through a bunch of comments, reading most. Kind of hard to joke in a message box.
Nintendo is still dominating in the hardware department though.
@justin233 Not if you know how good a game it is!
@ReaderRagfish
Haven't had this happen to me in a while. Lol. I watched the whole thing....what does that mean?
@Euler I have it and I know it is! I'm just surprised it's selling well.
@Obitokamui64 It's an outdated meme called a rickroll. It's so 2007.
@NEStalgia
LoL...if your name and icon didn’t give it away...nothing will!!
@justin233
I know. It's timeless my friend.
hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaugh 111 xboxes sold. In all of Japan. Probably some Gaijin losers homesick for hamburgers and assault rifles.
"Nintendo still managed to secure 13 of the top 20 positions."
No they didn't. 8 titles on that list are developed/published by Nintendo. Most of the other stuff is Namco.
@Obitokamui64 Oh - I thought you were asking what it was when you said “what does that mean.” I see what you were saying now, though.
@Razer I honestly have no idea what you're saying is happening here. Can you explain?
Of all the hardware, only the 2DS and 2DS LL managed to sell more than last week.
They talk of taking the top yet they have few to count as oppose to the Nintendo count. Yeah that really tells basically nothing. Just going to top because it's released tells next to nothing. That just boosting chest thumping but Nintendo sales already Thumps PS so that tells alot already. PS doesn't have long term sales.
Maybe it's time for Mario to behead his enemies and then kick the heads into a net to regain his place.
@JasmineDragon Sorry no... If you can't figure it out by reading my post, then it would be futile for me to try and explain it to you.
