I already made this comment before on previous articles but I'll do it again anyways, here are a couple of posts by a game developer who explains the reasons Nintendo is against fan games in detail

Re: Detective Pikachu Director Comments On Sonic's Movie Makeover

Aeon7

I'm kinda worried about the animators for the Sonic movie. Say what you want about how bad it is, but the truth is making any kind of animation requires a lot time and effort and the animators are doing the best they can with what they've got. But with the news of the redesign, I'm hoping the movie at least gets delayed a few more months because if not, then I'd imagine the animators would have to crunch and stay behind in bad conditions to do a lot more work within a short period of time

Re: Sonic Movie Director Responds To Criticism, Promises Changes Will Be Made To Hedgehog Design

Aeon7

While I'm glad to hear that he's listening to the criticisms, I'm also somewhat skeptical. Whenever a trailer is shown with a bunch of clips, that's generally a sign that a large amount of work has already been done. Trying to redesign sonic while the movie is still being made means that the entire movie crew probably has to reshoot most of the scenes they already done. Although I'm not a movie creator so I could be wrong

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Revealed For Nintendo Switch, New Starters Shown

Aeon7

Overall, I really enjoyed the reveal trailer and I am absolutely pumped for this game. The world, starters, and characters look amazing and I can't wait to get this game. With that said though, here are my two cents on the complaints I've read.
-"The game looks like an HD Sun and Moon": I agree that it's not the most impressive looking game out there but the visuals are WAY better than the 3DS. There's a lot vibrance and lush to the world and more detail thanks to the Switch's hardware compared to SM.
-"It's not open world"- While I think the old format can be tiring, it's important to realize that making a good open world game is very difficult especially if you're trying to be ambitious like BOTW. It would take a lot time, money, and resources to make a good open world and I don't think Game Freak has enough experience to do it yet. Also, there are a lot of design challenged that Game Freak would have to do to make an open world Pokemon game. The advantage of linearity is that it's simple to follow whereas open world is more complex, and since Pokemon is designed for children, an open world would be too overwhelming for them. I do think some open world ideas should be implemented like dynamic weather but I think the best approach for a more open Pokemon game would be like old 3d Zelda where the area is open but if you want to progress the story, get to certain areas, you need to take a certain path. But overall, I'm okay with the linearity and it's important to note that moving to open world won't work for everything

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Direct Video Tags Suggest Generation 8 Will Indeed Be Shown Tomorrow

Aeon7

@MimoDX2 Yeah I agree. I think are some big design challenges that the developers have to face when making a completely open world Pokemon game. But I do think they should add some free open world elements like being able to roam wherever you want or maybe choosing any order of gym leaders you want while having some linearity, like if you want to advance the story or gain access to certain areas, you are required to take a specific path or something

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Metroid Prime 4 Delay?

Aeon7

I think it's important to realize that games that are in the middle of development tend to look pretty ugly. Things run at 5 frames per second, a lot of bugs, animations look wrong, etc. Given the fact Nintendo really focuses on quality control, I'm assuming something went wrong within development that made Prime 4 getting delayed

Re: AtGames Disappoints Again With The Bandai Namco Flashback Blast

Aeon7

Honestly, I'm glad something like this happened. AtGames have constantly made bad product after bad product without any improvements or even bother listening to the criticism. I hope they realize that what they did was a big mistake and try to improve or at least apologize to their consumers.

Re: Injustice 2 Director on the Possibility of Bringing the Game to Switch

Aeon7

I think it's defintitely possible. Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat X both came to mobile devices and while the gameplay was completely different from that on the consoles, admittedly it's impressive how the developers manage to take the character models and environments and scaled them down to run on weak hardware. So overall, I think the Switch is capable of running Injustice
