@CaleBoi25 Well hey there, CaleyBoy! I should dm you lol, we haven’t talked in so long!
Friendly reunions aside, I was pleasantly surprised at the completion of the soundtrack in Nintendo Music tonight. Three Wishes makes me cry as ever, No Quarters gets me hyped up and pumped, and the Grand Festival ambiance reminds me of what an amazing experience that was. I do wish the concert versions of the idol’s songs used in at the festival grounds were present though.
I’m super excited to make more Miis for my family, friends, and other important figures in my life! Something about the Mii Maker in Tomodachi Life is so much more engaging and purposeful than the system one. My only concern is creating Miis inside of Tomodachi Life that are then trapped inside Tomodachi Life…
@ROMhaiku All I’ll say is there’s a reason that so many Nintendo fans were hoping for this series to return, and there’s also a reason many of us got hooked on the 3DS game.
It seems like you’ve found the reason, and I’m so glad you have!
@Dev-N The three-Mii limit sucks, but iirc the 3DS demo had that same limit, too. So strange to see the game introduce Miis like it’s 2006 again, though. Hope you enjoy the demo friend!
Very sad to hear there’s no way to import Miis besides local wireless. Between that, and the Mii Maker being buried in Switch settings, only time will tell how much I’ll get out of this.
I am very thankful they released a demo at least. Hopefully data will transfer from the demo to the full version?
I really hope there will be previews and reviews that dive into what’s changed and expanded in this game compared to the 3DS one. I get that Nintendo really seems to want a fresh start, but it would still be great to hear what I can expect as someone who put many hours into the 3DS game ages ago.
I’m a bit worried to be honest that it won’t have the same staying power for me as the 3DS one did, just because the form factor and my use of the hardware is so much different.
Fourthing the surprise about the comments being left open.
@BaldB3lper78 One of the ways I’ve come to love to think about this administration is that it’s just a content farm in service of a brand. It’s very obvious that the POTUS and checks and balances and such should not be run like that, but it’s seemingly the reality of what’s happening anyway. And, at least in the online space, it all seems to be unifying us Americans against Trump and the government he’s attempting to craft, which is somewhat fascinating to live though.
Speaking of Breath of the Wild, I just finished obtaining all of the captured memories from the base game last night, and I’ve been thinking, why does Zelda have the accent she does in the game? Is her VA from somewhere in Europe? Or is there some lore reason for it?
Genuinely super curious, if someone here has the answer?
Is it just me or did the game kind of show up out of nowhere and have no real promotion with it? Maybe it’s just that it’s not for me. Speaking of that, am I the only one who gets uneasy when hearing the “Fever “ subtitle? It makes me think of getting sick and feeling unwell rather than a game mechanic 😭
Maaaaaaaan, this game was such a core part of my adolescence! I got the notification, started flipping through the tracks, and it all just came flooding back to me.
The tracks that brought back the most memories for me were: the HOME Menu theme, the Mii creator, the clothing and interior shops, the Mii News news flash, the amusement park, the musical setting in the concert hall, the save screen, the minigame music, wanting to be friends, confessing romantic feelings, and wanting to propose.
There’s still two days left to buy Game Vouchers before they’re discontinued, so that’s an option for anyone who thinks $60 is too much. (The vouchers expire a year after purchase). I know that’s the option I’ll be taking.
I really hope they still have mii sharing. That was one of the best parts of the original, since streamers would put the QR codes up and we could just add them easily, and there’s even websites that collect the QR codes to share.
The game absolutely did not need health bars, but they have the unintended side effect of making tracking easier in certain situations, which I will not complain about. And no, they cannot be disabled.
Honestly the changes that have had the most impacts for me are hitboxes and hurtboxes, as well as the nerfs to stealth jump. Super Jumping feels a lot more like it did in Splatoon 1 now, when stealth jump is being used, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And the change to hitboxes has made it easier for me to play cb, so that’s really cool.
Good to see people in the comments actively go to church! Lovely to hear!
There’s supposed to be “between 3-16 inches" of snow this weekend, so we'll see how that goes too.
As for me, I won't be watching the direct because I'm trying to limit spoilers for the movie. I also didn't watch the first direct, or anything beyond the original reveal in the September Direct. Super Mario Galaxy (2 especially) is one of my favorite games of all time, and over the last year I was super nostalgic for it, so I'll probably end up in tears at some point during the movie. (During the first one it was the credits for me)
It is very interesting to see a Direct on a Sunday though...
Somewhat strange, looking back, that this review didn’t touch on the major goldmine that was the timing of this game’s release. For whatever it’s worth, for a short while in time, this game turned into the universal third space, that we all had the experience of playing asynchronously together, because there was nothing else to do.
I got 12/17. Struggled mostly with the deeper cuts (Metroid Prime 3, Zelda movie actor, Switch 2 editions released, the correct title for Jamboree Switch 2 edition, and the game which appeared in the switch 2 direct (I was accidentally thinking of the switch direct from the week prior))
I remembered the one about storage not from Welcome Tour, but from the direct)
Wow, lots of these tracks I don’t ever even remember hearing! Surprised they didn’t put Wii Fit U in there as well!
Side note: did anyone else have the experience of playing this game as kid and then developing body image issues later in life? I have no idea how I would ever process such a connection, but I saw it on a Reddit thread once and it really resonated with me (since I fall into both groups).
@Anti-Matter have you considered the purchase of a PS Portal, for the rare times that you want to play away from the television? It would allow you to play the games that you enjoy with the performance that you require, but still have the ability to be portable.
If I’m misunderstanding your comment, please let me know.
Perhaps it’s a difference in culture, but I really don’t understand why Miyamoto-san even answered the investor’s question. What good is there out of speculating on what someone who hasn’t been with Nintendo for a very long time would think about the Nintendo of today? Even here in this comments section, it seems to be causing more bickering and disagreement than discussion, and I just don’t see how it’s helpful or healthy for the Nintendo community.
@HeadPirate Respectfully disagree on the snails being cosmetic. Those extra gear XP points go a LONG way over hundreds or thousands of hours of matches. Plus, unless you get lucky enough to have two star gear by default, you HAVE to use snails to unlock all three sub ability slots. Separately, one of my friends pointed out that being able to trade in ability chunks would also go a long way to helping the system.
I wonder how long the decorations will be up at Nintendo NY? I’ll be back up there (in the city) exactly a week later, so it'd be a shame to miss the neatness by such a short amount of time.
Would the Covert Dock 3 work well enough to be a second dock for the TV downstairs, so that I wouldn’t have to spend quite so much on the official dock set?
I would imagine that a lot of the development staff at Nintendo these days are young enough to have grown up with classics like arcade Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, so it’s understandable that there’d be little references, callbacks, and easter eggs throughout the next few generations of games.
@Croctopus I wouldn't expect anything past the seasonal fests earlier this year tbh. The game seems to be in a really good spot, and I think Nintendo might want to leave it that way.
That being said, Nintendo did announce a new North American League event for late this year, that sounds very similar to Leagues Under The Ink, except for the addition of another format at the beginning (Personally I with they'd used swiss, but I'm biased.), so I could be completely wrong.
I'm glad you've been enjoying DK Bananza! I take it you really haven't been playing Splatoon recently then?
A slightly more focused splash, along with rain and vac buffs, are where my interest mostly lies. Douuser and recycle buffs probably don’t amount to much, and it’ll be really interesting to see how the .52 changes will pan out.
@Croctopus dev-n, did you change your username? 😅 I tried playing s3 again last night, for the first time since I left competitive. It went alright, I think!
@OctolingKing13 in the same position, but for the downstairs TV. $125 is just too expensive, especially for something that’s only available through the Nintendo online store.
This interested me during the Indie World, and once I saw it was only $10, I bought it right away. It’s so cute, and it’s great for pickup and play. Some of the puzzles really make me think, and I like that gameplay flow a lot! If I had known it was on mobile and not just switch, I probably would’ve gotten it there and played it on my iPad.
@Suketoudara “Do they think by doing stuff like putting UFO 50 in the Sizzle reel they'll get people talking about it more because everyone will be commenting on their bizarre behaviour? Are they purposely trying to start micro dramas to keep Switch 2 being talked about?"
I hate to be the one to break to ya, but even if it's entirely unintentional, it's working very, very well on you and some others in the comments here.
@Shmoo I think the final nail in the coffin for me was when they started heavily pushing the whole "wiki guide" idea, and how some of the guides started to make zero sense after that.
@Duncanballs Unfortunately that seems to come with the territory of being a mainstream Nintendo news site. I know I personally stopped visiting IGN a long, long time ago (back in 2015, if I remember correctly).
@The_Pixel_King The base game of “Super Mario Party Jamboree” is fantastic, and it comes highly recommended. The “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” is a lie, because the base game is literally indifferent from the Switch 1 version, other than GameShare support that’s more limited than DS Download Play on Mario Party DS. The “Jamboree TV” expansion is fine, actually quite fun, but it’s completely siloed off from the base game, to the point of being a completely separate menu, and having no interface between it and the base game.
Very interesting to hear the tracks referred to as “stages”. Does Japanese just have one word for all of these types of things? Since maps in Splatoon are also referred to as “stages”, and the same for levels in 2D/3D Mario. Or is it “stages” in regards to being like a play, a musical, or a production of some sort?
I believe, even more than in the past, that the time period between Iwata-san’s passing and introduction of the Switch was a period where the Nintendo we all knew and loved began to transform into the corporation we know today. Just as the new management was setting up for success, they were also ripping out the soul, the relatability, the humility out of the company. As an example, Iwata said that online would always be free, but as soon as he was no longer present, Nintendo began charging for online. Generally, it feels as though, the second half of the 2010s were a transition period, and since Reggie left in 2019, it’s somewhat soulless compared to a decade ago.
While I haven’t won by getting first place, I have gotten very close a handful of times. So far, I’ve gotten 2nd one time, been eliminated in 5th one or two times, gotten knocked out in 9th through 12th many times, and had a small handful of times where I never even made it past 21st.
So, it’s very fun. I’ve also had a surprisingly fun time with battle mode.
