Re: Thunderful Extends Its Distribution Agreement With Nintendo

AccessibleDaydream

@Andy_Witmyer By 25 seconds or so! 😂 It really doesn’t matter haha, maybe I’ll be first next time, lol.

@-wc- I personally remember it from around 12 years ago, when I used to visit NintendoLife after school, watch IGN video reviews, and when GameSpot gave Skyward Sword a 5/10. ETA: I seemed to remember it being a 5, but it was actually a 7.5.

@RuneMakes thanks. You learn something new every day!

Re: Switch Release Dates For Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door & Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Confirmed

AccessibleDaydream

So, I, uhh, didn't know there was a new Endless Ocean game coming out. Is that the one from the Wii where on the surface it's a virtual fish tank, but beneath the surface actually so much more of a game? Am I thinking of something else?

Furthermore, I've never actually played Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, but I've heard so much about how it's such a good game that I've been itching to try it. Is it similar to Paper Mario on the N64 Switch Online app? I was thinking of trying that and seeing if I liked it.

Re: Rumour: New Report From Nikkei Corroborates 'Switch 2' Delay Into 2025

AccessibleDaydream

@PepperMintRex Admittedly, the fear of another situation like that is very real for me, even as just a fan of Nintendo properties.

The Switch is already lacking in charm compared to prior consoles (especially Wii U/3DS) and while I have no doubt that the most hardcore fans would stand by Nintendo through pretty much anything, other than game output alone, there’s not much left of the quirky Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Showcases All 94 Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo In New Graphic

AccessibleDaydream

@Lanmanna After estimating the value of the amiibo I had at the time, yes, I got fleeced.

(They gave me something like 30% of what the collection was/is worth apparently - about $550 or somewhere around there for some number of figures, I don’t remember)

At the time, I didn’t know there was a market for amiibo, and admittedly I was in absolute shock when they said even that $550 number. But, I wasn’t in a place to be able to take my time and sell things one-by-one in some complicated way, so I did what I could reasonably do.

And also my ADHD wasn’t being medicated at the time, so that most likely had a lot to do with it.

Re: Nintendo Releases Switch eShop Demo For Mario Vs. Donkey Kong

I think it was on a YouTube video, I saw a comment acknowledging that between parts of Mario Wonder, the game in this article (Mario vs DK), and the upcoming Paper Mario remake, Nintendo has been leaning into nostalgia a lot lately, and this particular comment made note of how that isn’t a particularly great sign for the future of Nintendo, their games, or their developers, and I tend to agree, since even the self-referential moments in past games still focused far more on moving the respectivive series forward.

Re: Sony CEO Drums Up Hype For Nintendo's Zelda Movie

AccessibleDaydream

I didn’t read most of the article (yet) but I’m really confused as to why people are so shocked that Sony Pictures would work on a Nintendo project. It’s nowhere near the same thing as Microsoft putting a first-party game on a competitor console, it’s much more similar to how Apple, as an example, uses storage chips from Samsung Semiconductor.

Re: Splatoon 3: Chill Season 2023 - Every New Weapon, Stage, Feature

AccessibleDaydream

@Grim @Browny

I’ve taken to the idea that Splatoon, for better or worse, is a perfect candidate for a first free-to-play “live service” game from Nintendo. Yes, that involves the baggage that comes with the term, but there’s also some upsides, and the timing seems to line up too well. I’ll explain…

1. The seasonality of updates, with catalogs, weapon kits, and quality of life improvements, already falls under the “live service” banner, albeit one where the only costs are the price of the base game and the time investment a player chooses to put into each season.

2. With this in mind, Nintendo could choose to remove the barrier to entry that is the cost of the base game, and perhaps use a model like Halo Infinite’s, where the multiplayer is free-to-play, but the single-player campaign is a typical purchase for actual money from the store. Nintendo has seemingly been inching this way even with Splatoon 3, with the aforementioned seasonality of content, the additional single player DLC, the near-monthly Splatfests, certain other aspects such as Sheldon tickets to purchase weapons, and even PvE in the form of Salmon Run.

3. The move to this model for the series could help with the balance between drip-feeding content around seasons, and getting burnt out on content by just a few months in. That’s not to say the latter situation isn’t even more likely with a F2P/Live Service model, but it could also just be my own tendency to become overwhelmed by the finite nature of it, as that’s the biggest reason I don’t even attempt to progress the catalogs anymore myself.

4. Nintendo promised two free years of Splatoon 3 content updates, and the end of that promised two years leaves enough time in the year for Nintendo to announce their next console (my money’s on Super Nintendo Switch) and potentially the next entry in the Splatoon series. Of course, since we’d all love to see backwards compatibility with the first Switch generation, they could also announce the new console earlier in the year, potentially lining up with a new season in Splatoon 3, or even renewing the promise of seasonal updates beyond two years, which could still line up with a new console.

5. It’s a real stretch, but earlier in the year next year is when Nintendo will be shutting down online for Wii U, and of course the Wii U was the console that Splatoon originated on, so Nintendo could go full-circle and release the next Splatoon as just that, which would work from the perspective of repurposing the original name as a name for a F2P “live service” project, and as a path forward from the trilogy to something more in-line with what the series is known for (multiplayer).

All of that being said, I’m not entirely sure Nintendo is that forward-thinking just yet…

Re: Nintendo Unveils Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Switch OLED Bundle, Out This Month

AccessibleDaydream

@AndroidiOS Yes! I had a launch-day model that I had sold my Wii U and New 3DS XL to be able to pre-order (I’ve since upgraded to the OLED Switch), and I had gotten the Lite because of the awesome design, as well as it seeming more “at-home” with Pokémon Sword than the regular Switch model.

Honestly, it’d be the perfect Nintendo Switch for me if they had allowed the Lite to do HDMI-out.

Also, it felt more “at-home” to play Animal Crossing New Horizons on the Switch Lite.
