Monday morning means Download news time in Europe, and this week Nintendo has delivered a fairly lengthy list of options on the way. There are new titles on Wii U and 3DS as well as some retro VC options, while a variety of temporary and permanent discounts also arrive to tempt you into parting with your funds. Let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Evofish (Moving Player, €3.99 / £3.59) — Originally a title on Android and iOS, it arrives on the Wii U with bright, colourful visuals and new multiplayer modes. Moving Player is keen to emphasize that — beyond single player — the asynchronous multiplayer options will make this a fun party game on the system. We'll get together and see whether we agree with that school of thought in our upcoming review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Wario's Woods (Nintendo, €4.99 / £3.49) — This NES title lands on the Wii U Virtual Console, adding to the contingent of 8-bit puzzle titles available to download. It has action elements that holds up pretty well, and we gave it a recommendation in our Wario's Woods review.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Darksiders II (Nordic Games, €39.99 / £31.99 until 13th March, normally €49.99 / £39.99)
Knytt Underground (Ripstone, €4.49 / £3.99 until 6th March, normally €8.99 / £7.99)
Wii U eShop Permanent Discounts
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist (Ubisoft, €29.99 / £19.99, was €44.99 / £36.99)
Just Dance 4 (Ubisoft, €19.99 / £14.99, was €39.99 / £29.99)
3DS eShop
AeternoBlade (CORECELL, €14.99 / £13.50) — After a fairly protracted process to gain localisation funding, this brawler finally completes its journey into Europe. With RPG and 'Metroidvania' elements this is appealing on paper, but we feel it is a bland and occasionally frustrating experience; we awarded 5/10 in our AeternoBlade review.
The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths (Ynnis Interactive, €14.99 / £13.49) — This adventure arrived on the Wii U eShop last year, and finally makes its promised transition to the 3DS eShop. Based on the increasingly popular TV show, with future content to follow events from its namesake, this places you in the shoes of three children that must be guided through puzzles and tricky scenarios. We'll try this out on 3DS, but until then you can see what we thought in our Wii U eShop Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths review.
3DS Virtual Console
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49) — Recently provided as a free download to all 3DS owners in Europe with a registered Nintendo Network ID, the end of that promotion sees this arrive as a standard download. A Game Boy Color re-release of the classic NES title, it has a zoomed-in view due to pixel limitations, but also has extra challenges and visual embellishments. The limitations of the original hardware perhaps restricts its effectiveness, as we suggested in our preview of the Japanese version; we'll work on a review to see how well the NES title and its tweaks stand up in this version.
3DS Retail Download
Senran Kagura Burst (Marvelous AQL, €34.55 / £29.99) — This title has perhaps attracted attention for its character designs and the fact it made it West at all, but once the game starts it delivers fast, combo-intensive fighting gameplay that is hugely enjoyable. You can check out our recommendation in the Senran Kagura Burst review.
Jewel Quest Mysteries 3 - The Seventh Gate (MSL, €11.99 / £10.79)
Bibi & Tina - Das Spiel zum Kinofilm (€39.99)
3DS eShop Temporary Discount
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate (Konami, €22.49 / £19.99 until 6th March, normally €44.99 / £39.99)
Plenty to choose from, European gamers. Let us know if you're planning to pick any of these up in the poll and comments below.

Nothing for me, still got Jigsaw pieces and Kong letters to find.
A single VC game, again! Sports and Puzzle games... Is that all they're releasing now? Ugh.
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse....when?!
I'll finally get knytt for that price was waiting for a price cut
Aeternoblade, definitely! Can't go wrong with it at 15€! No need for a discount!
Senran Kagura is safely pre-ordered, so I don't care much for the eShop release.
@Romeo If you took a short look at the "Upcomin Releases" section of NintendoLife, you would've realized that it's currently slated for 04/02.
Avoid Jewel Quest Mysteries 3, it's the second worst hidden object games I've ever played.
Hmmm, I might get Castlevania.
Already have Wario's Woods on my 3DS, and got Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for free. Beyond that, nothing really interests me this week.
Meh! Nothing this week. Still having fun with Retro City Rampage from last week though, so that's OK.
Again nothing for me.
Evofish looks cool bit I'm a bit caught up clearing a gaming back log while I'm off work this week, got deus ex to finnish off/ halfway through w101/ 5 stars to go on castlestorm and Mario 3d world needs a good few stars adding to the save file.....then I can start on pikmin3 and black flag.......busy week ahead!!
Awful pricing on darksiders btw. It's £10 at retail pretty much everywhere.....that discount for online is not attractive at all!!
Will definitely get Knytt Underground.
Might also upgrade to the Wii U VC of Wario's Woods version in the future - if it's in 60Hz.
So I found a review. that said that Splinter Cell did have gyro aiming after all, and now I am getting SUPER hyped for Splinter Cell!
Please, make my decision easier;
can some one confirm, that it has a gyro aiming option!?!?
Not sure what the darksiders reduction is all about as the game has had a retail value of £15 for the last year? And with THQ under who's put this forward?
Darksiders II (Nordic Games, €39.99 / £31.99 until 13th March, normally €49.99 / £39.99)
This is a typo correct, Must be a patched & updated version then what no. Serious no one should buy this & teach them a lesson.
Senran Kagura, physical preorder.
Another week, another Sh*te VC line up.
What are they thinking?
Back to Tetris for me
Senran Kagura, Castlevania and maybe Knytt Underground as well.
This will be an expensive update...
Wow senran kagura
that a good for tune u have it physical
Darksiders 2 is only around £17 on Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Darksiders-II-Nintendo-Wii-U/dp/B00844Q8LO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1393241745&sr=8-6&keywords=darksiders+2
@whodatninja Yeah, DS2 should be like €9.99 from now on seeing as the company is closed down an stuff.
Is Knytt Underground worth a look?
Kinda not using my Wii U at all since December
@readyletsgo me and you both man.
Knytt for me, looks a bargain at that price
Blacklist's new price is very exciting! Unfortunately I have no room for it on my internal drive...
@AJWolfTill blacklist is 20 euros on play.com
Nothing here that really compels me. Just already spent £15 on tetris and trine 2 so am pretty satisfied with those purchases.
Darksiders II is €12,- on Amazon.fr and I bought it on Steam for €7,50...
I hope that Knytt Underground can help me rid of my disappointment over another lousy week for VC games.
hmm.. we got Wario Woods already and you guys just got it.... maybe that means we'll get Mario 3...since you guys got that we haven't yet! lol
"Aeternoblade" sounds like the name of a cookware set
Splinter cell is worth it, though I already have it downloaded off the excellent earlier discount.
Really considering knytt underground, seems like a great game for 5 euro's.
I'd be down for Darksiders II, but I'm not paying new game prices for a title that was just an IP buy for Nordic when I got the disc already. If they were trying to recoup the purchase of the studio which made it, fine, but it doesn't look like they're doing anything beyond putting it back in the shop. £20 okay, but not 30-40, that's just silly.
At £3.59 Evofish is a steal, i'm glad they added asynchronous multiplayer as it really was a no brainer for this type of game. I'll pass on everything else though as i'm still playing Retro City & Crimson Shroud on my 3DS and Donkey Kong on my Wii U.
The reason Bibi & Tina - Das Spiel zum Kinofilm has no description is it is for Germany only and as you would imagine the text is German only.
Surprised at SMB DX but given Mario Advance series seems to be heading to Wii U VC I guess I shouldn't be. I'd like to see DK Original Edition and Four Swords Anniversary next.
@erv
Do you know, or could you check if the Splinter Cell has gyro aiming.
Splinter Cell is an excellent title, I've found it far more fun than CoD and really addictive. This deserves to shift more copies and hopefully convince Ubisoft there is a market for decent shooters on WiiU
All I can say is ...who ever makes the final decision on what VC game comes to Wii U must be totally out of touch ..
I think they are having a hard time juggling the two 3DS & Wii U ... the 3ds wins hands down ..
Again I will have to pass ....
You guys are just getting Senran Kagura? Hope you enjoy it!
Nothing of this stuff for me this week. Except that I bought AA: Dual Destinies today, but not gonna play it before I've completed the Ace Attorney-trilogy on iOS(got it on black friday for 7NOK(0.99$)). Maybe I'll buy some other games I don't own yet to play for my winter holiday next week(we have a holiday around this time in Norway).
@Varoennauraa it doesn't have any, as far as I know. I usually look for this option in many games but am surprised to find it lacking most of the time.
Nothing for me this week. Got DKTF to play and a bit of a backload to catch up on.
SPLINTER CELL BLACKLIST is an awesome game with great online in case you wandering. The single player campaign is lenghty, addictive and challanging. BUY IT if you don't have it yer and join me for a game
@readyletsgo Knytt underground is certainly worth a look, even for the initial asking price.
Wait a minute, Darksiders 2? The news here isn't the price reduction but that Nordic have made it available again after it was removed during the final days of THQ.
In all honesty, this is my favourite game on the Wii U and one of my favourites of all time, too. Anyone who doesn't have this should get it but, as others have pointed out, the disc is available for much less elsewhere.
Nordic recently announced a similarly overpriced 'collection' disc on the other formats, stating that they were using it to gauge demand for DS3. I hope the same doesn't apply to this.
Oh look, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe! A game that North America will never see on Virtual Console!
@erv Aaah Such a shame. But thanks!
Nice to see Just Dance coming down to the price you could get it retail since July around here. If they would match the prices of physical copies, I would consider buying them digitally. Like with MH3U
That's a pretty good price for the digital version of Just Dance 4. Great game with tons of content, and some very good DLC tracks too.
@UnseatingKDawg Already have the original,so it's not like it's a must own for me.With drought issues regarding retail releases id like to see Nintendo step it up in the digital department.Virtual console on wii u is not even close to matching wii's in terms of quanity and quality games.Gems are given here and there, but vc has dissapointed due to lackluster selection&re- releasing games on both platforms..Ps3&360 have countless great arcade games that would be great for nintendo's wii u fans starving for software, but I fear third party's may be just as hesitant to release digital offerings as they are with retail releases.CastleCrashers,Strider, minecraft, metal gear solid hd collection,Nights into dreams, brothers, bastion, castlevania sotn,Dust, limbo are games that could help with the lack of retail releases.Nintendo has a lot of work ahead of them with the wii u,even if they don't consider themselves in competition with the ms&sony who's older systems have way more games and a superior online setup.Honestly,I don't think Nintendo was ready to tackle hd gaming and creating a online infrastructure all in the same generation.
A single VC game, again!
On each service. Its better than those weeks when one doesn't get a VC game.
Nothing for me Still waiting for Retro City Rampage down here in NZ Atleast I have Super Mario Bros DX to play! I haven't been looking forward to the review because I know it's not going to get the 10 that it deserves.
I'll have to get Knytt before the discount ends.
I've registered my ID a long time ago, yet didn't receive the download code. I also live in Europe. Well there's always the emulator if I want to play my free copy of Super Mario DX that I didn't receive.
@Superryanworld: I can see where you're coming from. I just wish that VC releases would be worldwide, instead of by region. Japan already has it, and now Europe, with not even a slight mention for a North American release. All I (and probably many others) ask is for equality. I guess Nintendo of America just can't do that.
@UnseatingKDawg I think you're right.Worldwide releases would do much to appease us fans.Just look at all the fuss smb3 has caused.
@Superryanworld: I know. I've been waiting for SMB3, especially since they had said it would be released before the end of 2013. Hopefully since that will be included in NES Remix 2, we'll get Super Mario Bros. 3 before the end of April.
You know, those are some pretty cool retail discounts for the Wii U eShop. I'm definitely a collector who love to own game boxes, but none of those games are bound to be favorites of mine, and so I can probably go virtual to experience them.
I'm getting a physical copy of Senran Kagura Burst (preordered) and I'll download Knytt Underground as I've not gotten it yet.
I like the look of Aeternoblade, so I'll put it on my watchlist and wait for a discount.
Darksiders 2....is only £9.99 brand new from GAME at the moment.
Nintendo still haven't sent me my free Super Mario Bros DX code that I'm entitled to...I've emailed them but their reply said unless I've not had it by the 28th, then they won't do anything. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person now who's not received their code
EDIT:
@Luffymcduck I feel your pain That makes 2 of us then.
I was going to get aeternoBladde last week in the US shop But then stumbled onto a gem of a game in Weapon Shop De omasse. Ive never had so many laughs in a videogame. So I bought weapon shop De omasse and didn't have enough forc. aeternoblade. Maybe in a few weeks or just wait patiently for a sale.
too busy with bravely default, will be neat to see us whine about no SMB3 in US this week too
Weirdly slow week, but I will be buying after all the great Knytt Underground from Nifflas.
Earlier thought of not getting it since I have it already for PC, but since the Wii U version is supposed to be the most superior version with added features, I will be purchasing that.
Knytt Underground is a little (massive) gem. Buy it.
I still haven't received my free Mario Deluxe code...Anyone else did?
Now, that's something I can look after to, the Just Dance 4 which is now cheaper! I can't wait!
