The Chase Begins Banner

It's Thursday, so that means it's Nintendo Download time. This week brings us a rather lengthy list of options for both 3DS and DSi, with both Wii U and Wii missing out. There really is a lot to get through, so let's get on with it.

3DS eShop

Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo (Pixel Toys, $7.99) — This 2D platforming debut from Pixel Toys originated on iOS, but this 3DS version includes 60 story levels and 30 challenge stages, representing a 50% increase in content over the original. You run, jump, swing and bash your way to collecting as many acorns as possible, and we think it's rather good at those simple activities; you can see our strong recommendation in our Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo review, or read what the developer told us about it in our interview with Pixel Toys.

Mystery Murders: Jack the Ripper (Microvalue, $9.99) — This adventure strategy game takes in the storylines of three different characters trying to solve the riddles and crimes of Jack the Ripper in Victorian London; it's grisly enough that its Nintendo game page is age-gated. We'll deduct clues and learn more about the case to bring you a review, soon.

Witch & Hero (CIRCLE Entertainment, $3.99) — This top-down combat title may have a promising premise, combining battles, light RPG doses and retro-styled visuals, but the final result is a major disappointment. In our opinion it's sloppy, poorly designed and a chore to play, but if you want full reasoning you can read our Witch & Hero review.

3DS eShop Temporary Discounts

This week sees the three Guild01 titles reduced (hopefully preceding confirmation of the Guild02 equivalents), along with a light-hearted title from last Halloween and the final day of Pokédex 3D Pro's discount.

Liberation Maiden (Level-5, $4.99 until 30th May, normally $7.99)

Crimson Shroud (Level-5, $4.99 until 30th May, normally $7.99)

Aero Porter (Level-5, $2.99 until 30th May, normally $4.99)

Dress To Play: Cute Witches! (EnjoyUp Games, $1.99 until 24th April, normally $3.99)

Pokédex 3D Pro (Nintendo, $9.99 until 19th April, normally $14.99)

3DS Retail Downloads

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins (TT Fusion, $39.99) — This prequel to the Wii U title comes to 3DS with plenty of ambition, offering up the same vast city to explore and missions based within these locations. While a welcome opportunity to spend more time with Chase McCain and the city with such character, we felt some technical issues held it back in our LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins review.

Harvest Moon 3D: The Tale of Two Towns (Natsume, $29.99) — Despite being released in stores way back in 2011, this one is only just available, from today, on the eShop. Essentially a DS re-release but with stereoscopic visuals and a few small extras thrown in, we felt that this was a fairly modest effort in our Harvest Moon 3D: The Tale of Two Towns review.

Tetris Axis (Nintendo, $TBC) — This is another retail title from late 2011 making its debut as a download offering on the eShop, bringing some Tetris goodness to the 3DS. Check out our Tetris Axis review for details of our recommendation.

Puzzler Brain Games (Maximum Games, $9.99) — Available from 23rd April, this provides 20 puzzle types to tackle, with a 90 day programme designed to help you improve your cognitive skills. This will also be available on DSiWare via the DSi Shop.

Puzzler World 2013 (Maximum Games, $9.99) — Also available from 23rd April, this is an impressively large collection of puzzles — apparently over 1200 — to play at leisure; includes Wordsearch, Sudoku, Pathfinder, Spot the Difference, Codeword, Link-A-Pix, and Split Words puzzles and more. This will also be available on DSiWare via the DSi Shop.

DSiWare

Working Dawgs: Rivet Retriever (Big John Games, 200 Nintendo Points) — This second title in the Working Dawgs series switches from puzzling to platformer, and represents the last DSiWare game from Big John Games as it moves onto 3DS and Wii U eShop projects. With 20 levels and a budget price point this dog may have its day, but we'll review this soon to let you know what we think.

Nintendo Video

Final Episode of BearShark Season 1 (Free) — The newest hit series from Nintendo Video wraps up this week with the final episode of BearShark Season 1. In a fitting end, Bear and Shark chase Steve through a nursing home. Don't miss the fast paced action and be sure to tune-in for a very special announcement!
