UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 3rd July, and the big news is that Mario Golf: Super Rush has held onto the top spot for the second week running.
PlayStation title Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has dropped down the chart from 3rd to 6th place, allowing the evergreen Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to move up one place to 3rd position. Animal Crossing: New Horizons also rises a single place, moving to 4th, while the Switch version of Minecraft has jumped up two places.
Elsewhere, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is up from 10th to 8th, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – a Switch launch title, lest we forget – breaks into the top ten again, making the massive leap from 25th to 10th.
According to our friends over at Gamesindustry.biz, sales of BotW rose 31% in a single week, marking the third consecutive week of growth for the critically-acclaimed adventure. We'd imagine the recent hype for the upcoming sequel had something to do with that jump.
Here's this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
1 | 1 | Mario Golf: Super Rush |
2 | 2 | FIFA 21 |
4 | 3 | |
5 | 4 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |

Well, glad to see Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PS5 still on Top 10. 😊
Nintendo should just make a new Mario Strikers already, it will be top 1 in UK for years.
I'm more impressed by GTA V still being in the top 10. It's nearly 8 years old and came out 2 generations back for the PS3 and XBox360.
And this is all without discounts. Can you imagine if some sort of ‘player’s choice’ will happen how much more copies of these games will sell?
Good to see Mario Golf hold onto 1 it’s a good game. Surprised with Zelda being back there.
Mario Golf Super Rush UK retail sales:
> Week 1: ~16,500
> Week 2: ~8,000
By comparison, Mario Golf World Tour sold ~3,000 retail copies in its first week.
It's entirely possible Super Rush may have already outsold World Tour in the UK.
Why is this golf game still at number one, do these people not read all those complaints from those internet posting minorities.
It's not out of the question that, judging by botw's sales, it may return to these charts and even take number 1 in the weeks before botw 2's release.
Enjoying Mario Golf so far. Multiplayer wih friends is where it shines.
@westman98
It's a shame when you see how much World Tour was better.
Do you guys think Mario Golf is better than Tennis Aces?? I really liked Aces! But I heard Golf has the same problem: lack of content at the beginning. Maybe I should wait?
By the way, so glad Zelda is back! Even though I still think Nintendo should discount their games already lol, this is insane.
@the_beaver why discount them when they sell well even after all this time that would be silly. I could understand if they didn’t sell well but they do so no need.
No surprise. Mario golf is a great game
Breath of the Wild coming back to the top 10? I'm surprised it hasn't STAYED in the top 10. Did it really take until the BotW 2 trailer to convince people to play BotW?
I got BotWon the Wii U originally but double-dipped recently as I wanted to play it again, and wanted the original and sequel next to each other on the same system. Great game.
Have to say, for me mario golf was dreadful. As someone who has much love for aces, I'm surprised Camelot didn't launch with an online tournament mode. Support will likely come but after the player base dwindles and adding extra modes just exacerbates the issue. Already traded my copy in. Its selling plenty whatever so nintendo clearly don't care but if any other publisher put that game out they would be slayed
@Outerdragon It's basically for the sake of the Switch users, not of Nintendo as a company, but I see why they are not doing it XD. What a loyal fanbase.
@FlashmanHarry It's cause it tends to be bundled with new consoles.
@the_beaver so you saying only Nintendo fans keep buying their games at full price?
@Tibob
I massively prefer Super Rush. I think the modes and gameplay are a lot more interesting.
No, BotW I played four years ago. AC is not my type of game and Mario Golf is a game I've wanted to buy on release date, but I didn't.
I agree with many reviewers and you tube postings about Nintendo releasing unfinished games and putting a full price tag on them.
It seemed to start with Kirby's Switch release and then many other games followed. The updated reviews for Kirby including the updated dlc were still critical, suggesting that they were mostly cosmetic.
The fact that BotW is in the charts shows that many new gamers have bought a Switch. Gamers that don't read reviews or understand or even care about Nintendo's new marketing strategy. Which is fine for them but the choice for Wii u owners and established Switch owners has diminished.
If Nintendo had announced a new package of dlc, now, with a total of 4 new courses and other stuff, I could buy into that, but, it could be another Kirby offering long after they had grabbed my cash.
I think Golf is pretty good, I was a little leery after having picked up Mario Tennis and not liking it at all, but I've got no real complaints against Mario Golf. It's the game I had hoped it would be. Things get pretty frantic in the Battle mode, or Speed Golf, but nothing as ridiculous as the stuff in Aces.
Minecraft for Switch is literally on every single list I have seen.
The fact golf took number one over Fifa whilst the Euros is going on is quite noteworthy!
I mean at this point if you have a switch and you don't have botw there's something wrong with you
After playing Mario Golf since the release date, here is my feedback about the game :
Now the good :
Even with those sort of negative points, I'd still recommend it.
I hope that the updates will improve a bit the graphics, will bring more courses and add extra modes/challenges.
It's really quite interesting how old some of these games are.
Now that the Switch has proven itself to be a healthy environment for Mario sports titles with the success of Aces and Super Rush, hopefully Mario Strikers, Sluggers, and even Hoops make a return.
Strikers has decent shot depending on what Next Level Games is currently working on. Sluggers and Hoops were developed by Bandai Namco and Square Enix respectively, so whether they make a return is much more up-in-the-air.
Wow, really cool to see BotW back in the top 10. Yet another solid week for Nintendo software, good stuff.
@johnvboy people need to stop complaining over the lack of content remember splatoon started off like that and became a really great game with all the content it got so i expect mario golf will be the same.
Just downloaded BotW in the sale to give it a second chance, as I sold my copy ages ago.
Yeah it's a great game, not the heaven sent masterpiece that people claim.
Weapon durability is still a massive issue for me.
I hope Nintendo learn from their first proper attempt at an open world and BotW2 can fix some of the issues I have. Then it might be a masterpiece.
@RiasGremory,
Of course it will, and it's the modern way with games these days to add additional DLC, to keep the game fresh.
@geordie I agree on all counts.
@geordie Durability becomes less of an issue the longer you play the game (Thankfully) and start to pick up better, and more durable weapons and learn to farm them if ever short. (Which is rarely, if ever, but you can)
I'm split on it. It's a hassle at the beginning but I love that it makes you have to switch up styles and tactics and use all your arsenal.
Additionally once you've got the mechanics down and on subsequent replays it's far less of an issue as you don't 'waste' weapons so quickly by not knowing the mechanics as well. In this regard it's a real shame it punishes beginners as it's a big hurdle.
