Finished Unicorn Overlord AND Kirby & the Forgotten Land this week! It’s been a perfect gaming holiday for knocking things off the ol’ backlog
With Unicorn, I found myself immersed in the strategy of every battle versus the art as most folks claim to hang as it’s true positive. Still captivating of course, I was eager to see the numbers go up as they say. Story wise the ending had me cheesing but otherwise it was pretty solid. I hope to do post game someday! Kirby on the other hand - what a CHARMER. I enjoyed it very much and find the creative transformations adorable. The team developed some of the most intriguing stages as well! I see all the praise for Astro Bot and wonder if people were just being dismissive because this our kid friendly Kirby.
After enjoying Sonic 3 the movie I bit the bullet and bought Sonic x Shadow Generations. Currently a couple acts into it & loving the movie crossover as well! Happy gaming and new year to all!
It really depends on the day but I currently have Echoes of Wisdom over Unicorn Overlord. Solid 2024 list to look back on for the foreseeable future and Merry Christmas!
I’ve got a few main quests left in Unicorn Overlord yet I found myself liberating towns and enjoying the side quests for several hours last night. I think I’ll have it done right on Christmas Day. It snuck into my top 2 games of this year and deserves a spot on my top 25 of all time. I’m hoping to either start and finish a short game right after. Happy Holidays and Gaming y’all
Unicorn Overlord! about a dozen hours put in this week with many to go in hopes of completion by the new year. I’m finding it rather cozy after the frantic action of Prince of Persia: the Lost Crown which I FINISHED Sunday night. I enjoyed it for the Metroidvania it was, as well as the combat and the art direction but the story didn’t capture my attention. There was even some souls like difficulty with the bosses that had me bring down the difficulty. With Unicorn, I feel these Fire Emblem-ish vibes that are simple yet cool in their own way. And the tactics system is refreshing as well! It’s all about the preparation babyyy! Dare I say this may sneak into my top 3 games for 2024 which I thought I had set
Finally wrapped on Metaphor ReFantazio! I’ve had a fun, Atlus filled 2024 between starting and finishing P5/4/3. I must say the political fantasy drama just didn’t leave the same taste in my mouth that the save the world teens did. Still- a solid experience & the middle part of the story had me on the edge of my seat. Characters were written beautifully whilst combat was fluently splendid so I can’t wait to see what Atlus cooks up next.
I dove right into a palette cleanser as I’m currently sitting on 7 hours playtime in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. I can see why this game is making so many people GOTY lists! But I still hold FF7Rebirth & Zelda as my one two punch for top dawgs this year. Hope to beat it by Tuesday so I can attempt one more game as 2024 closes out
Finished One Piece Burning Blood & on the final day of Metaphor ReFantazio! Caught a minor bug so hoping to finish that last battle the next couple days
Chopping at the last third of Metaphor ReFantazio & the main stories true colors are showing. The connections/bonds are extraordinary side stories on their merit as well. I’m still balancing it out with the fighter One Piece Burning Blood[/]. Just one fight of One Piece for each long session of Metaphor is the perfect counter so far. I’m hoping to start [b]Prince of Persia: the Lost Crown on my Switch as soon as I wrap up both. I’ve made a short list of Switch games to hit before Monster Hunter Wilds & Switch 2 announcements/anticipation take over in February/March
Enjoying the twists and turns of Metaphor ReFantazio whilst also tackling One Piece Burning Blood as my side dish. People don’t give it any credit and I’ve found it a pretty enjoyable short fighting campaign !
Being the Halloween week here in the US it’s been a tad bit difficult to game this week but we managed to get some in! Metaphor ReFantazio has been my main focus and I’m currently traversing the map after the first dungeon. To anyone on the fence - get past the 10 hour mark/first dungeon and you’ll see what the true game opens up to be. Fantastic characters and story that get better once you achieve that mark. I do expect this to launch on switch 2 at some point and can’t wait to play it portably. Pokemon TCGP has also taken over my working hours and collecting cards has never been easier or more relaxing. The battle system is simple enough for anyone to grasp & all I can do is brag about it to my small group of friends and hope it latches its claws into their lives as well. Lastly, my family and I jumped into a game of Super Mario Party Jamboree. We took a ten turn game of the mall board and WOW. The surprises. The new rules. The layout. The presentation. This may just be the best Mario party I’ve played and couldn’t agree more with the overall masses.
Went on a week long trip overseas & finished a few GBA (and one Turbo Grafix 16) games whilst in the air & at the beach. Metroid Zero Mission , Pocky & Rocky with Becky, Bomberman ‘93, Chu Chu Rocket, Warioware, inc - Mega Microgame$!, & Kid Dracula . Beating the OG Metroid a couple years ago and coming back to Zero Mission was refreshing. I may call it the best Metroid of all time. Simply gorgeous pixel art & level design wasn’t overly complicated like some others. Warioware was a clear winner and folks weren’t kidding on the fun factor. Chu Chu Rocket deserves more love! Being back state side & having finished all these “shorter” games I was finally able to start Metaphor ReFantazio. 3 hours in I’m still trying to get a grasp at it but being the big persona fan that I am I expect it to click soon
Finished the absolute gem of a game The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. I am at a loss of words at how amazing of an experience it was and encourage everyone to go in blind and to NOT look at any guides. Everything can be done through self discovery! It sky rocketed into my top 5 Zelda’s & leaped over FF7Rebirth as my game of the year
I also sped through the final 2 chapters of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. Visually? Stunning! But otherwise very disappointing with the story versus the first. It took me several attempts the past month or so to return and complete the short story. I hope the team finds a way to make a third one that’s a bit more intriguing
As for this weekend & next week, attempting a retro break before diving into Metaphor ReFantazio when I get back from vacation. Gave Castlevania: Circle of the Moon a shot last night but for some odd reason I felt the age of the movement in every step my main character took! So I booted up Metroid Zero Mission having never beaten this remake (just the OG NES version) & got as far as Kraid in one sitting. I’ve made a list of GBA games to tackle whilst on my 20+ hour flight journey & hope to get through some more blind spots as well
Zelda! I’m currently loving its approach and enjoying the puzzles. I’ve always been a top down fan vs the 3D games so this may easily sit in my top 5 experiences for the franchise when it’s all said and done. A bit past the halfway point!
Finished Still Wakes the Deep on Gamepass just in time to for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom! I’ve gone through two dungeons so far and I must say I am smitten with this masterpiece!
Finished up on Persona 3 Reload - Episode Aigis this week whilst continuing a slow play through of Sonic Advance 3. Looking for something light before the new Zelda comes out next week!
Had finished Persona 4 Golden last night and needed a palette cleanser. Thank you Nintendo with Super Mario Land - a game I couldn’t beat in my childhood! Will jump on 2 next
I prefer traditional, linear stories versus thee open world that has been set forth as precedent the past few years from our favorite developers. Just not for me considering work/life occurs too
saying that I enjoyed the story just as much as BoTW and was captivated by the final boss and sequences. I did not overturn every rock to reveal their secrets
I’ve had a few mishaps with gaming this month since finishing Xenoblade Chronicles. Real life stress has just taken over. Tried Spider Man, Bloodbourne, & Demon Souls on PS5. Gave Nier, FF8, & Undertale a shot on Switch. Even tried FF6 last night! Nothing is grasping my attention the way I’d hoped! So I just bought Persona 5 Royal on Switch seeing if it can suck me in.
ROLLED CREDITS IN XENOBLADE CHRONICLES DEFINITIVE EDITION & loved every minute. I will play the next two someday….. in 2023. Time to tackle Marvels Spider-Man next
I know this is an Ubisoft Store thing but am I in the minority when I say I enjoy having games individually? Collections are cool but I’d rather select a game from my switch menu as individual titles. I wish they offered them that way cough cough Black Flag
Final Fantasy VII Remake is everything everyone says! A cultivating tale that demands your attention from start to finish? Not having played the original I’m having a hard time not going back to it and/or looking up what happens next. Bring on Crisis Core Reunion & Rebirth
Seeking my next adventure, I dove into the Harvestella & Diofield Chronicle’s demos & Marvel’s Spiderman to each not hooking me the way I had hoped…. But last weekend, I read NL’s features article on Monolith Soft & it resonated with me just enough that it had me thinking about Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition & now I’m 5 hours in! the story is very interesting but the battle system is a bit confusing. I hope to see it through to the end
Had myself a birthday week & decided to finish off a classic whilst starting another. Limbo was the first off my list & boy did it live up to the hype. From the art style to the puzzles I had a hard time putting it down. I hope to get to Inside someday
In the meantime I started & finished two other classics, The Legend of Zelda & Super Mario Bros on the Switch NES app. In the matter of 5 days I had gotten all the way to Death Mountain and the final dungeon in Zelda. I believe it to be very under appreciated and I’m enjoying it for what it is. The final fight was my only plea for a harder challenge. As for Mario, much simpler times but fun overall. To counter my retro obsession I’m at chapter 14 of FF7 Remake on my PS5 & pleasantly enjoying the story & graphics. Being my first Final Fantasy besides Tactics Advance, my hope is that the door swings open so I may try my hand at a couple more Final Fantasy titles in the near future
On PS5, continuing my play-through of FF7 Remake. I’m on Chapter 11 & I must say even though it feels very “visual novely” with light action I truly enjoy the story so far. Many twists and turns keeping me on my toes. I hope to go back to OG and play this first part in its true PSX form On the Nintendo front my sisters fiancé and I tackled a few rounds of Super Smash Bros Ultimate where he won a best out of 5 meanwhile I balanced out my graphical powerhouse of a game with a environmental puzzler called Limbo whilst in bed. Well beyond worth the 2 bucks I spent on this clever critter
Finished up God of War on my PS5 & now I’m 6 chapters in on Final Fantasy 7 Remake! First Final Fantasy for me since Final Fantasy Tactics Advance eons ago. I can see why ppl love Cloud & this story they’ve built! Its also gotten me curious about other installments in the series that I’ve missed
Finally got through title update 1 in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. Seething Bazelguese gave me the most trouble to solo versus the rest. Fumbled around in Limbo & Shining Force on my flight back as well but neither really stuck with me. Now that I’m back home I made it to the midway point in God of War (2018)
Had received my first current gen console with the GameCube so my parents bought me Metroid Prime. Never quite finished it back in that day but still a masterpiece none the less. I’ve gone on to love the franchise for its distinct style of survival & loneliness. I now prefer the 2D side scrollers to the 3D adventures but don’t mind jumping back in one day
Been away on vacation this week so it’s all Switch everything. I’m on the final chapter in Live A Live & the grind has been a welcome change pace whilst maintaining interest. Finished off Panzer Dragoon Remake & I must say it was quite the delight in short bursts. Took my talents to Dig Dug II & sprinkling in some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe booster pass cups on top of some Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak quests
Plenty of bouncing around this week! Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass with the fam, God of War on my new PS5, a couple of chapters in Live A Live, & a couple quests in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak & Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate here & there. Also Tetris 99 Maximus Cup to collect some old themes I missed!
The podcast and reviews made me do it! Bought Live A Live and have made my way through FOUR chapters so far: Prehistory, The Wild West, Imperial China, & Present Day. My favorite has been the western so far. Trying my best to not rush through them but the little stories are so interesting, each in their own respective way! I hope to have two left for my ten hour flights next week
Besides that I’ve been tackling a quest a day in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate & putting an hour or so a day into God of War (2018). First time having a PlayStation & I want to see what I’ve been missing on the Sony side of things. Finished Stray earlier in the week & I highly recommend it as well
They omitted many titles such as the Monster Hunter expansion and the new Fire Emblem game from translation. I wonder if that’s because there are other developers/publishers involved and they didn’t feel like getting the ‘OK’ from them. Otherwise that Japanese magazine is a beauty of 84 pages as well! Even if I can’t read it
Got to MR60 & holding off til this August update as I feel like I’ve done most of everything in Sunbreak. Currently rolling through Generations Ultimate & it’s great seeing where this franchise has come from!
Simmering down on MHR Sunbreak & decided to tackle Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate again! I finally got over the urgent quest hump on 3 Star & hoping to dig a little more into the quests on vacation soon
On PS5 side I’m currently rocking out on Stray and love every minute of it ! Short, sweet & just different enough from my traditional games to enjoy
My focus has been on Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak right now. Got to MR50 and boy does one furious boy hit hard. So much fun
Between the hunts I’ve been dabbling in Dark Souls Remastered on Switch & I am in love with this pre-Elden Ring portable iteration. Having 100 percented Elden Ring I’ve been dying to get back into FromSoftwares catalogue
Also gave Fire & Ice a shot on the NES app. Love the head scratching puzzles & I can see myself jumping in here and there. Pleasantly surprised
Blacking out on all trailers and news til release. Played the demo for about ten minutes and must say this is everything everyone is saying. Can’t wait! This and Stray shall be dominating my late July gaming
Took a trip to the beach with fam Tuesday & took out three games whilst in the car: ElecHead, Kirby’s Adventure & Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s main story! I was pleasantly surprised with the challenge in Kirby’s NES effort. I may go as far as to rank it above Superstars Just grinding through the endgame of Sunbreak now & trying my hand at Dirt5 on GamePass but it’s having a hard time holding my interest over monster hunting
The Anomoly Azuros was quite a pain. He’d look ready to collapse for the final five minutes when most monsters show that fatigue in their last minute. Glad they patched it

I wonder if that’s because there are other developers/publishers involved and they didn’t feel like getting the ‘OK’ from them. Otherwise that Japanese magazine is a beauty of 84 pages as well! Even if I can’t read it
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass Wave 2 Confirmed For Next Week
Can’t wait! They look amazing! Side note - 5 months in between waves? That doesn’t add up to “by end of 2023” for the next 4 waves
Re: Capcom Showcases Gameplay From Monster Hunter: Rise Title Update
Got to MR60 & holding off til this August update as I feel like I’ve done most of everything in Sunbreak. Currently rolling through Generations Ultimate & it’s great seeing where this franchise has come from!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 23rd)
Re: Soapbox: Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie Is Still One Of The Greatest Adaptations Ever
I think the kinda funny boys were going about this movie a few weeks ago. Classic! They need to make a tv show in this realm
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 16th)
Re: Square-Enix Shares The Final Trailer For RPG Remake Live A Live
Blacking out on all trailers and news til release. Played the demo for about ten minutes and must say this is everything everyone is saying. Can’t wait! This and Stray shall be dominating my late July gaming
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 9th)
Took a trip to the beach with fam Tuesday & took out three games whilst in the car: ElecHead, Kirby’s Adventure & Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s main story!
I was pleasantly surprised with the challenge in Kirby’s NES effort. I may go as far as to rank it above Superstars
Just grinding through the endgame of Sunbreak now & trying my hand at Dirt5 on GamePass but it’s having a hard time holding my interest over monster hunting
Re: Memory Pak: The Best Puzzles Are The Ones That Make You Want To Throw Things At The TV
ElecHead just did this to me towards the very very end
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 10.0.3 Is Now Live, Here Are The Patch Notes
The Anomoly Azuros was quite a pain. He’d look ready to collapse for the final five minutes when most monsters show that fatigue in their last minute. Glad they patched it
