As the great Captain Haddock once said, 'what a week, huh?' It seems that in the run-up to Splatoon 3's release, Nintendo has been hitting us with inky news left, right and centre (splaturation, if you will). This week, we got a chance to go hands-on with the upcoming game, and we are sure that some of you will be doing the same this weekend as the Splatfest World Premier demo is now available to download from the Switch eShop.

While this week's Gamescom Opening Night Live and Nintendo Treehouse presentation has got us looking towards the future, you might wish to take a smaller scale approach to this weekend's gaming with both the mouse-based Islets and RITE scurrying onto Switch consoles.

Elsewhere on Nintendo Life, we got deep on our GoldenEye facts for the N64 game's 25th anniversary, entered mouthful mode in our visit to Tokyo's Kirby Cafe, and went for some spooky swings in our Cursed to Golf review.

But now, the weekend is finally here and we are ready to chill out with some good comfort games. Three members of the Nintendo Life team discuss their gaming plans below and we would love to hear what you are playing via our comment section. Happy reading!

This weekend I will be taking the Eurostar from Germany to England... which means a lot of Slay The Spire and some more time on 13 Sentinels, nothing new! I'm sorry for being so repetitive and predictable!

Buuuuuut since I'm at Gamescom this week, I've played and seen a lot of games that I'm now excited for, even if I don't know if they're all coming to Switch. Does that count? There's Vikings on Trampolines, Animal Well, Birth, Aka, Lakeside, and Fall of Porcupine all look SO interesting and beautiful. I hope they all come to Switch! But I'm also thinking I should get a Steam Deck...

I’ve not had to confess anything on ‘What Are You Playing’ for a while, so let’s change that – I’ve never really played a Splatoon game. I’ve tried but not really for more than a few minutes at a time. So, this weekend, I’ll be dipping my toes into the Splatoon 3 demo. My first ever Splatfest, hey? If you see an Octoling flailing about and doing terribly, that’s probably me. Sorry in advance, Team Scissors!

That’s probably all I’ll have time for this weekend – I’ll obviously be dipping into Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s postgame, but a little less video game time feels like a good thing.

This weekend, for me, will be a world of furniture building and decorating. So, when my sofa is finally in, what better way to chill out than continuing with my Splatoon 2 catch-up? One way or another, I will have some skill at the game by the release of the upcoming sequel.

I am also looking for some comfort gaming over the next couple of days, so there is no doubt that I will be returning to my beloved Zelda. Hopefully, I will be able to progress with Skyward Sword a little more than I have done in the past — motion controls turned off, of course. However, I have also been listening to the Breath of the Wild soundtrack a lot this week, so another run through the latest incarnation of Hyrule Field may be calling me for some cosy relaxation.

As ever, thank you for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your weekend gaming plans!
