@Discostew Legendary work. Are you up to anything interesting nowadays?
@everyone Seriously, Discostew is a legend. Google 'mega man 2 petit computer' to see what he did. Nowadays it's be front page news - and it's a shame petit computer was taken off the eshop, and the sequel never made it to EU...
@rjejr The thinking behind not doing a shield 2 is that 'the shield line is meant to show off the power of tegra. It's a hassle to develop a full product, and it would never sell huge numbers anyway, so now that Nintendo's agreed to buy tens of millions of chips, they don't need to make their own anymore.'
the reasoning for them not saying anything about it/changing the subject at the investors meeting is 'Nintendo's buying tens of millions of chips and they've asked nvidia to keep it a secret until Nintendo do the official reveal in just a few weeks, so nvidia did indeed keep it a secret'
@BLPs I'm sorry it affects you so much. It's sad that modern Nintendo seems to have given up on the powerful home console space, and I'm 'lucky' enough to have so little time to myself nowadays that a lack of releases doesn't bother me so much. I'd like another proper paper Mario, and I'd like stuff like Street Fighter and Dark Souls and Overwatch and Tomb Raider to come to Nintendo consoles. I'd love a new Dokapon Kingdom game and a non-crappy Mario Party. Things change though, and the things you love don't always stick around. People die, bands split up, movie franchises get crappy sequels, and popular companies rise and fall. It's just life.
This is just a Nintendo fan website. They have to have something to keep us coming back, and there's precious little real stuff to talk about, so we get stories about rumours, little business pieces like this, 'talking points', etc. It's nothing sinister, just a natural consequence of Nintendo being so quiet for so long... :/
@Octane @BLPs The guy didn't explicitly state that they weren't having anything to do with gaming. He was asked 'are you doing X?' and he answered 'we are doing Y and Z', essentially. To claim that he said 'we are not doing X' is literally not true.
Just keeping everyone straight, that's all. I'm not particularly emotionally invested either way - though I am enjoying this crazy NX rumour rollercoaster...
@Jeronan Chardir is right - this is only for when the controllers are attached. If this particular patent is used in controllers that are also to be used while not attached, they'll most likely link up using Bluetooth.
This is just a cool idea for for a way to an infrared LED and a camera to allow controllers to be attached that don't contain any electronics. It's not a final product, and it doesn't limit it to only controllers with no electronics. It also doesn't apply to detached controllers - so line-of-sight won't be an issue. And the NX will contain it's own gyro/accelerometer anyway.
@Jeronan it's the same tech used in the end of the Wiimote - the one used to detect the sensor bar. It's also the same tech from the hand gesture recognition patent. nothing to do with TV remotes, though it could also be used as one...
@-DEMISE- It's not the same thing as how infrared remotes work, it's literally a fast camera looking inside the shell of the controller to see which buttons are pressed in.
it's a way to snap controllers onto the side without electrical connection. cheap, safer, reliable, and potentially very adaptable. It'd likely use a similar sensor to the one in the front of a Wiimote, and they were running at 100hz back then. No need to worry about lag/not registering multiple quick button presses in other words...
@SanderEvers The devs Made a crazy complicated app that was pretty much guaranteed to have bugs like this. It's a miracle that Nintendo allows it at all - I'm thinking that the good professor is an old school chum of miyamoto or something.
Nobody's been punished - it was just took offline until the bugs were fixed, which is a business risk all console devs no doubt take into account.
I've got no hate for hackers/crackers, but given the nature of the app, it was major bad form to release this exploit, especially considering others were already available...
I think Nintendo missed a trick by not doing paid dlc for fresh Gear. Pay €7,99 to add 100 various hats/tops/shoes to the shop rotation, something like that.
Also, I'm hoping that Splatoon's 'legacy', apart from sequels, is that gyro aiming somehow becomes standard, at least on Nintendo consoles. At least.
This is just a prototype. The consumer version would probably have shipped with a super FX enhanced cart, or something like that. The NES and SNES were basically designed to be upgradable in that way...
@Kirk apparently the muted colours are an epilepsy prevention measure; and I worry about the same thing for the same reason... and I tell you to let it go because you're crapping up the thread with your internet battle...
@Randomname19 A mini Gamecube is a long way off - there's money to be made off of gamecube virtual console titles on NX first. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see a mini SNES next year though, and maybe a 'handheld lite' with gbc/gba games preinstalled... maybe.
It's a one of those retro TV games, like the Atari flashback. If you want one, you want one. If you don't, you don't. This one is official Nintendo, has a neat feature in that the controllers use the same socket/format as the Wii classic controllers that plug into the bottom of wiimotes, and has a decent selection of games. That megadrive one everyone's referencing does have a couple of big pluses with the original cartridge slot and the wireless controllers, which is great, but not expected in these types of things - that's just them being super-awesome. Nintendo still have a business selling us virtual console stuff. It wouldn't help them in any way to include a cartridge port. Also, for those wanting WiFi, Bluetooth, the ability to browse a specialised eshop selling nes games only or whatever... Get real.
I see a lot of people thinking that there's Wii hardware inside this. I think they're insane. Bookmark this comment - I'll eat a sock if that's the case. And no, a minor component like a connector doesn't count...
My opinions? Seems like a nice product. The styling is nice, and there's a decent amount of good stuff. I'm tempted, though I'd probably only enjoy a few of those titles (bubble bobble and the super Marios). It's a shame RC Pro-Am isn't on there, but understandable given it only recently came out on XBOne...
The best thing about SmileBASIC is that it IS homebrew on the 3DS. Completely legal, easy to use, cloud sharing/storage, gyro/accelerometer/mic/WiFi multiplayer compatible, and with many many interesting apps already available. Anyone truly interested in homebrew should already have it, and I'm glad they've fixed it already and it'll hopefully be back soon. And there's an almost fully compatible enhanced Wii u version coming out too!
Sad to say, I've given up hope on a European release. I wonder if I can hack my 3DS somehow and get hold of a US version...
How sad. If it's actually costly/difficult to run, Then why not just scale it right back until the sequel launches. It'd be nice to have one every 2 or 3 months or whatever..
Slot the NX handheld into a Samsung gear VR style goggledock. dot tracking LEDs around your room. wiimotes as controllers. Job done.
Advanced mode: Give the handheld a couple of high-quality cameras at eye-distance apart, and more processing power. You now have an AR capable device.
I give it 3-5 years until the tech is up to the standards they'd feel happy with that would be cheap enough. 200 for the handheld and an extra 50-60 for the goggledock/tracking dots/pack-in game, sold separately. If that's a success, then the sleeker, all-in-one, goggles-only version will follow.
Make an animal pen out of logs, with seesaw catapults around the edge, herd animals into it and lock them in.slowly squeeze it in until the animals are all on top of the launching end of the seesaws. get the stasis boulders set up for launch. Set the animals inside on fire, wait until a good blaze gets going, and LAUNCH!

@BLPs Maybe you should get a 4-way USB Gamecube controller adapter, and a bunch of pads, and get into some of that sweet dolphin emulation.
