Re: Soapbox: It's too Early to Judge Paper Mario: Color Splash

toxibunny

It's too early to say whether it's going to be a good or bad game, but it's not too early to say that it's not going to be a 'proper' Paper Mario game.

Myself, I'm heartbroken - not only that they've taken the series in a shallower direction, but more that it seems they're not even going to say that it was ever an RPG at all. I hope that some day we'll get the true sequel to Paper Mario 2 that 99% of people would rather have. Maybe they'll go full circle and call it Paper Mario RPG.

It's not impossible. Just look how long we've waited for a proper sequel to Starfox 64. Okay, the newest installment seems to be more of a *re*quel than an actual sequel, but It's encouraging that they've actually listened and are actually doing another proper Starfox game.

I hope someday for another proper Mario Party game. I was reminded somehow recently about exactly why that series turned to crap - it's because they made Wii Party/Wii Party U to be it's replacement. The fact that that series exists had completely slipped my mind.

I think that Paper Mario Color Splash will probably be a reasonably good game - probably scoring around 7/10 on average. Good, but nothing outstanding, type of thing. Assuming such, I'm torn on whether or not to buy it. If it flops, will Nintendo decide we hate Paper Mario and cancel it altogether, or will they decide that they've taken it in the wrong direction and put the ship back on course?

Re: Fans Should Expect "Something New" With Zelda Wii U, Says Eiji Aonuma

toxibunny

The hype is building! I can't wait to see what new changes they've brought to the Zelda series. I hope it's something awesome like what they did with Paper Mario or Mario Party, or how they brought a new dimension to their 3D platformers with Super Mario 3D World. I hate it when all they do to their games is make them 'next gen'. If that's all they did, then all we'd have would be snoozefests like the new Smash Bros or Mariokart 8...

Re: Splatoon Updates to Continue Into 2016

@OorWullie Nintendo never likes to see a well-loved title go stale, though, so I'm not sure how well that fits with the new playstyle they're developing for Splatoon 2. The full title is Splatoon 2 : Fashion Ink, which will be (you guessed it) a fashion designing game utilising the unique social features of the NX. Nintendo are sure that you will enjoy creating unique fresh designs, outfitting your inklings for the catwalk, and uploading stylish images and videos to your real-life social media accounts.

Splatoon players who prefer the excitement of the battlefield will find a lot to enjoy in Splatoon 2 : Fashion Ink., as all the classic game modes and more will be available to play in the form of a variety of wild single-player minigames. Stay Fresh!

Re: Nintendo Will Do Well On Mobile Because That's Where Its Core Audience Is Now, Claims Analyst

Lately I've been playing a Steven Universe RPG on my tablet, because I love the show so much, I noticed that the story is written by the same people, and a review said it had paper-mario style fight mechanics. It's pretty cool, though fairly barebones compared to a proper console RPG. There's nothing about it being played on a tablet that detracts from the central experience compared to what it would be on 3ds or Wii U.

I've also been playing the snowboarding llama-collecting game, which is absolutely beautiful.

Sure, tablets and phones have a disadvantage due to lack of physical buttons and sloppy capacitive touchscreen, but there's nothing about mobile gaming that makes it automatically bad all the time...

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U)

toxibunny

OK so I played this on Wii and hated it. The graphics were muddy and blurry, the character designs were ugly, the wolf combat 'magic walls appear - select all the baddies then press a button which will make your wolf jump around automatically and kill them all otherwise they'll all come back to life forever' thing was no fun at all, and it seemed like I spent hours just riding a retarded pony through narrow rock ravines.

I said 'eff this!' and gave up on it at the start of the underwater temple entrance. I'd just had enough.

I'm seriously tempted to get this though, but I think I'd regret it...

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

Y'all haters need to take a deep breath and calm down a little, please. Just because the polls don't match your own personal opinion, well that doesn't mean you have to get all bent out of shape about it.

I personally didn't like twilight princess when it first came out. I thought the combat mechanics were too removed fom direct control, which broke the immersion for me, I didn't like the muddy muted colour palette, and I thought the characters were mostly just ugly. It also seemed to take forever to get started.

Having said that though, If it had came top in both polls or whatever, I wouldn't be on here ranting about how everyone else was wrong, and 'revising history'. I'd just think 'holy crap, that's weird!'

Someone needs to get to the bottom of the Wind Waker hate - it was very vocal at the time, too. I think there's a genuine phenomenon there that doesn't fit with the usual 'you like what came out when you were at a certain impressionable age' - or maybe it does fit. My 'impressionable age' Zelda game was Zelda III, which was very cartoony. Maybe I was primed to be more accepting/appreciative of Wind Waker, while those whose formative Zelda experience was Ocarina Of Time were primed to like Twilight Princess better. I don't know...

Re: Miitomo Preregistration is Now Open in 16 Countries

toxibunny

Miitomo is just a smartphone app. It's not the replacement for club Nintendo. You sign into it with your Nintendo Account.

The Club Nintendo replacement is called 'My Nintendo', and that's also tied to your Nintendo Account.

Your Nintendo Account (and whatever's going on with your 'My Nintendo' reward points scheme) will eventually be accessible using many devices including, but not limited to, Wii U, personal computers, smartphone, and the NX.

Re: Guide: Setup and Key Facts for Nintendo Account and Miitomo Preregistration

toxibunny

I signed up quickly using my Gmail account. Only problem was, my country wasn't in the drop down list. So I just picked UK, since that's where I'm originally from. Is that going to bite me in the ass? Undoubtedly, because Nintendo.

People with multiple NNIDS? Maybe more likely than you think - case in point:
Me: "hey little cousin, check out my Wii U. I've got splatoon, and if you like, you can create your own mii, and have your own save file."
Her: 'Sure.'
**mii creation time passes, we start up splatoon**
Splatoon: "ONLINE SERVICES NOT AVAILABLE WITHOUT FIRST REGISTERING A NNID"

Because Nintendo.

The Polygon article today was quite funny. They basically said 'Nintendo account now live - register now! But don't go getting your hopes up, because Nintendo."

Re: Random: Why You Can't Say "Smeg" on the 3DS

toxibunny

"smegma [smeg´mah]
the secretion of sebaceous glands, especially the cheesy secretion, consisting principally of desquamated epithelial cells, found chiefly beneath the prepuce."

Also, miiverse won't let me say 'balls'.

Re: Nintendo Is "Looking At" Virtual Reality, But Don't Expect Details Any Time Soon

toxibunny

I'd be into it. VR doesn't mean it always has to be first-person, BTW.
The price will be a lot more affordable in 18 months or so, and there's a lot of relevant tech that nintendo already has experience with (motion controls, LED-tracking controllers, low-latency video streaming, small form-factor devices and stereoscopy immediately spring to mind).

I think that if the rumours of nx being a family of devices with a largely shared software and hardware architecture are true, then a pretty decent Nintendo-made NX-based VR device of some sort would be relatively easy to produce.

If Nintendo really didn't want to produce their own headset, but wanted to hedge their bets just in case VR really takes off, then they could avoid becoming irrelevant by simply making sure that NX is adaptable for Oculus Rift compatibility somewhere down the line...

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Franchises Do You Most Want to See With the NX Launch?

toxibunny

Splatoon as a launch title on the new NX handheld this christmas please! Running on the same servers as the wii u, of course.

Zelda U Deluxe would be a good launch title for the NX home next year, of course, but my hope is that Metroid Prime will return too. I honestly think it's just a pipe dream, but Metroid Prime 1 had a big effect on me way back in the day, and I'd like a modern sequel. Being that it's a solitary experience, I reckon Nintendo will wait until they do VR until we get a proper sequel like that though. Stuff's more mukltiplayer nowadays...
