The NES Mini is coming this year and looks set to be quite a popular Christmas present, but a great many Nintendo fans will have their fingers firmly crossed that the SNES Mini follows shortly afterwards.
For those of you who can't wait - and don't mind getting your hands dirty - there's always the unofficial route.
Modder Hugo "lyberty5" Dorison has crafted his own dinky SNES, fashioned from a Raspberry Pi Zero mini computer, a USB hub and a hand-made clay outer shell.

The "SNES Micro" is clearly a labour of love for Dorison and most people won't have the skill - or inclination - to follow in his footsteps, but you have to take your hat off to the guy for this incredible modding project.

It looks nice.
Nice but..... still modded.
And fake...
2016 and you can get a SNES on a keyring. What a time to be alive!
No thanks, I don't play games on unofficial consoles.
Hey look at the high and mighty fans, what could Nintendo do without your unbreakable loyalty?
/s
Anyway, cool concept, I may even do it myself but I'm always afraid I won't know what to do with electronics and this seems to require some soldiering. But it would be worth the risk of screwing up.
@Anti-Matter whats fake about that? Cause it looks real.
A cool little device but I don't think Nintendo needs to take notes as they could always make one or two of these if they wanted to in better quality without third party junks in the mix.
@MajinCubyan
Um... because Raspberry Pi Zero, not real SNES.
Unofficial product. I smell counterfeit.
It looks to me more like a celebration than something to point legal fingers on. What an adorable little project, so heartily and lovingly made! 😃
I will be so touched if I invented the SNES.
@Anti-Matter Of course it's unofficial, he's a modder!
Is it it just me or does the guy pronounce solder with a silent L?
It does look great. Fingers crossed for an official SNES mini.
It's quite a nice build and takes WAY more patience than I would have for things like these, but I think it's pretty safe to say that if the NES Mini is successful, that a SNES Mini will probably follow, and that will be a far superior build.
But nice handiwork nonetheless...
@Enigk that's how solder is pronounced in English...I mean American.
@Anti-Matter counterfeit? Maybe if he sold it trying to pass it off as a real Nintendo product, but the guy made it for personal use.
People seem to be overreacting a bit here, his guy isn't distributing his creation. What would Nintendo cease and desist, people's own private projects? Nobody would even know he did this if he didn't put a YouTube showing it off what he made - which he's not making money off either, nor offering to distribute. This is really no different than fan art - actually no, some people do profit from fan art.
@Kmno this requires a lot more than soldering. If you do not have an electronics background, do not even consider having a go at this.
Looks great.
People are getting really stupid. It's obviously not made by Nintendo. It's the guys own project and I say well done to him. He is not selling it as a snes mini.
@Kmno
Hey look at the high and mighty fans, what could Nintendo do without your unbreakable loyalty?
You my sir are correct.
@Anti-Matter no it's not fake. It's real. Official Nintendo. See the video again
@sdelfin @Enigk
He's pronouncing it "sorder"
That's just flat out wrong in any language.
I'm shocked at the whiners in here. It's a very cute little device! Makes no sense why this project is offensive to some.
Go seek out Ben Heck on YouTube then, I dare you, haha.
@EVIL-C lol
@DESS-M-8 even Esperanto? I didn't notice it when I heard it in my phone, but caught it on my PC. Sounds like "sawder" to me, though.
I love seeing projects like this. It's cool to see what people will come up with and what a nice job they do. It's beyond what I would be willing or capable of doing. I'd be more likely to take a Raspberry Pi 3 and drop it in a pre-made 3D-printed PiStation case. I did look into sourcing a PS2 slim shell, which I like a lot, for an RPi project, but that didn't come together.
@Ikramali
Your comment is so cynical. I know it was a fan made.
Nicely made little thing.
I keep being amazed with how powerful the Pi Zero is.
@DESS-M-8 My background on electronics is pretty tame, barely basic even though I'm studying physics engineering. I've been meaning to improve but I'm a coward on f***ing up devices.
Nice, but the SNES isn't boxy enough for my tastes! We all know if Nintendo makes an SNES Mini, they'll have to release two different molds...
Now that's something I would buy! Why didn't Nintendo come up with that?
