After months of waiting the Nintendo Switch is finally here, and many hardcore fans attended midnight launches to make sure they got their consoles as quick as possible.
Our friends over at iRetrogamer.com attended one such event and popped that most difficult of questions: would you be willing to trade your shiny new Switch for an equally shiny and fully boxed SNES complete with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past? While it might be way too early to ask such a tricky question, the responses the team got were surprising all the same.
We're sure that the Switch will play host to some amazing games as time goes by but will it ever reach the same heights as the SNES, arguably one of Nintendo's most beloved consoles? Let us know what you think by posting a comment.

If I had one. :/
Never. Especially with virtual console. The Switch can offer things better than the SNES ever could.
I like this new format. The banner has too much overlapping though.
How is this even a question, unless I'm missing something? The SNES isn't worth $300, is it?
A brand new SNES should be worth some money so of course I would. And then I would try to get another Switch as soon as possible.
Fully box? Of course I could make hundreds off that and buy another switch and more games lol
No way.
I would rather having both Switch and SNES than sold either of them.
I would get the SNES, sell it, buy a Switch again and made still a profit.
@Tarvaax That SNES is more valuable than a Switch. Maybe you could even sell the SNES, get a Switch and buy some VC games with the money lol
If it was fully boxed, and not the US version, for sure, if i had a switch
I think I'd take the snes too. If it was just an out of box used one, I probably wouldn't. The fully boxed makes it quite tempting
@2CUTE4YOU Complete in box and brand new? It can pull in far more than $300. I wouldnt, but I'm certain there are a lot who would.
Sure, because I could buy another Switch easily.
Nah, I got a lot of SNES games on VC. So I would pass this up.
I'd assume the random guy on the street was trying to con me, so no.
Of course. Then I'd buy a new Switch.
I'd trade a Switch for a slab of beer.
SNES > Switch all day every day.
Yes, I would trade without think twice.😀
Never forget how ugly the US SNES is.
EU SNES/JP SFC all the way
@2CUTE4YOU Nope not at all. Maybe $150 max. To get a Snes non boxed and a copy of LTTP, you could easily only pay $50 or $60. Local shops have plenty and for much cheaper than ebay prices.
The music is annoyingly loud. One can barely hear what people are saying.
BTW, is almost the same price as the Switch, the SNES console. Unless it is a special edition.
If there was more games other then lttp which I own on 3 different vc already. But like 50 assorted games with it, definitely.
Sure a fully boxed SNES has good resale value, but I already have a SNES and I would much rather have a Switch.
Besides, a person can always emulate the games on PC.
I'd rather have SNES, hands down. But being that I already have one, I'll take the Switch.
No, I wouldn't. Especially not, if what's on offer is the ugly US version.
I'll take the snes as my one is yellowing
I would definitely do that! Can get another switch, unopened SNES on the other hand...
Of course I would. How many fully-boxed shinny "new" SNESes are there out in the wild?
Any fool can buy a Switch.
I still have my SNES so no. A NEO GEO AES though...trade ya.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I..I...I thought it was just a stereotype.....
I still have my NES, AND the original mario set box. BUT, it's yellowed pretty badly. A chance to roll back the clock is appealing....and you could buy another Switch soon enough (probably), and the SNES is worth more. OTOH, much as I loved SNES, 3DS managed to surpass it as my favorite, and I suspect Switch will surpass 3DS....so maybe not.
Maybe we can just call Switch Ultra NES? UNES? I'd say Mega SNES, but that's Sega's shtick.
Can I play a physical SNES on the go? Can I buy games digitally for it? Will it run the many modern games I want to play like Disgaea 5 or Skyrim or the many Zelda games post-ALttP? Am I living in a world where the entire SNES library isn't available via emulation and gradually legalized in that form via Virtual Console? Well, there you have my answer to the title question.
@2CUTE4YOU Just checked on eBay, and people are asking $300-$400 for the boxed SNES with LTTP. Love when the guy took off running. I'd have done the same.
IN A HEARTBEAT NO QUESTION on one condition.
If the SNES box was MINT and It was 100% never opened / used. Basically like it was "just taken off of a store shelf".
If its just a used SNES that is complete in box with Zelda than I would pass.
heck no
I'd definitely accept that trade. Like the guy said in video, Switch will be around, a brand new SNES will not.
If it were NIB, never opened (or at least inner bags with original seal and original tape), absolutely. In a few months there will be Switches on the shelf to spare. But new SNESs that are NIB and truly never opened are a rarity that only get scarcer as each day passes.
The Snes would require an av to hdmi converter to be on a newer tv.
Of course the switch requires an hdmi to av converter to be on an older one
If that SNES was in perfect untouched and maybe even factory sealed condition, I almost certainly would. I expect it would be worth more than even a brand new Switch with Zelda*, and I could always get a Switch a little later down the line. It would have to be the Japanese or European SNES though, because the American one is a fugly purple mess.

What people think up nowadays...
The answer is, of course, Breath Of The Past.
Would I trade a launch day Switch for a fully box Snes? If the Snes is new, then yes I actually would. I figure in no time, it will be easy to find a Nintendo Switch, and with the launch edition not being anything special from one you will be able to buy later, the Snes is definitely a lot more rare. Though it would suck to give up a shiny new toy, as a collector, I would easily pick the Snes.
Ehhh I'd rather play new games on a new system, so no.
Yes!!!
It's a no-brainer for me,hell yeah I would swap
Super Nintendo Entertainment System, FTW!!!
(Hey, at least it has an awesome Metroid game for it)
In a heart beat.
Is that SNES sealed new? or just boxed? Personal opinion but:
SNES is the greatest system ever, Nintendo or otherwise. Still my most played system, still discovering new games.
Would I trade for it? well since I already have SNES... it would have to be a value comparison (Can I sell get profit and buy another switch in a few weeks) then probably.
What a coincidence...seeing as I took delivery of a near mint boxed super famicom yesterday that would be a no. Otherwise I surely would but it would have to be a Japanese model, those USA machines are so fugly!
Honestly, wouldn't trade. I have no personal attachment to the SNES itself, only to some of its games, and there are a lot of different ways to play those games these days.
Yes, then I would sell the snes to a silly collector and get another switch when more are available.
If the SNES was new, in a heartbeat lol
my SNES is still rocking the Tetris attack
I am old enough to say absolutely! Anybody that says no probably did not grow up with a NES or SNES. They don't know Nintendo from the glory days. You asked this question to a bunch of kids that grew up on Wii's. Lol.
no (new in the box)
That's pretty awesome, but I've beat a Link to The Past several times over the years, and honestly, I think I'm enjoying BotW more.
More Value to the SNES than the Switch! But I wouldn't, I don't even have a switch (
