Re: Nintendo And Amazon File For $7 Million Default Judgement In Fake amiibo Suit

sunspotty

while i have pretty much zero respect for copyright law, i am glad to see nintendo take action against people who are defrauding their customers. not everyone buying these products realises theyre fake, after all. i do hope this includes those awful "amiibo coin" things that are just cheap nfc tags covered in resin, as those cost literal pennies to make and are marketed to people who think duping amiibo is some mystical mysterious hacking magic instead of something any smartphone can be used to easily accomplish

Re: Level-5 CEO Reveals Fresh 'Fantasy Life i' Screenshots, Teases More Info Coming Soon

sunspotty

imagine they delay it by a few more days just to screw with everyone after the playstation store debacle. really hoping we dont end up getting a seperate switch 2 version, shipping the game with switch 2 improvements baked in would be great though. they seem surprisingly confident about the game though, im bracing for disappointment regardless but maybe ill be pleasantly surprised

Re: Rumour: Switch 2 Game Cases Might Take Up More Space On Your Shelf

sunspotty

while this is obviously a bad move for everyone involved, the thickness is the most important measurement for game cases. theyd better not get noticeably thicker, i threw out a bunch of ds/3ds cases bc theyre just way too thick and take up a lot more space than switch cases. physical games lose their appeal more and more as time goes on, a €100+ sd card can feel like its worth the saved shelf space nowadays. the novelty of looking at the boxart kind of dies out when the only visible part is the spine, so bigger cases just dont make sense

Re: Review: Hello Kitty Island Adventure (Switch) - A Cute Social Sim That Takes Notes From Nintendo's Best

sunspotty

"hello kitty herself" real ones know her names kitty. next we'll be hanging out with "cinnamoroll" smh 😡😡

jk of course. im glad the game seems decent enough but the deluxe edition feels so gross. "hey look, heres time-locked content we refuse to release for this platform just to arbitrarily sell as dlc!" why not just re-run past events? and what happens to the game once they stop adding in timed events, do they just never re-run anything and let the game rot? and do deluxe edition late-adopters miss out on anything not currently included in it? i think i'll wait for a sale ngl

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Caution, Unpopular Opinions, Easy Games - Nintendo Life Letters

sunspotty

"cardboard robots" shut up!!! shut up!!! stop reminding me that labo exists!!! ever since the switch 2 "not all games will be supported" thing its been labo this, labo that. so now i desperately want to get my hands on a discontinued product that inherently doesnt work secondhand. everywhere i look labo rears its head and it is oh so painful

on the actual topic of the letters though lmao. i think this is nintendo at its objective best... which isnt a wholly good thing. yeah the switch 2 is about to be an amazing console that gets rid of most if not all of the switches downsides, but theyre spreading themselves too thin trying to appeal to absolutely everyone while losing their appeal to lifelong nintendo fans. give us menu music, give us themes (i am drowning in platinum points over here), give us whimsy that "serious gamers" (lol) can ignore

Re: Xbox Is "Really Looking Forward" To Supporting Switch 2

sunspotty

while ongoing support is obviously vital, i would love to see some of their back catalogue on switch 2. i have my doubts about game pass coming to switch 2 like im sure a lot of people are hoping for, but making xbox 360/games for windows titles available (natively, since i think game pass has them via streaming?) would be huge. that era has so many amazing titles that would hopefully be relatively cheap to port assuming they still own the rights/studios

Re: Switch 2 Supply Chain Figures Reportedly Revealed Ahead Of 2025 Launch

sunspotty

i might hold off if theres only the black model at launch. that one ai loser said there was an mk9 edition system in the works, which im hoping means coloured joycons. but yeah idk, my switch has terrible battery capacity and the loading times have really been getting to me so i may just brave the black joycons if thats the only launch option

Re: Feature: Everything You Missed In The Switch 2 Mario Kart Reveal - Characters, Features, Easter Eggs

sunspotty

people complaining about the article tentatively calling it "mario kart 9" when they only started numbering them at mk7... like yeah mk9 is simple and instantly understood to refer to this game lmao its not that deep.
but anyway this game looks great, the character designs feel like such a throwback. at this point my only clear hope for the game is speed selection for random online play😩 nintendo please dont lock us into 100 and 150cc just bc theres someone who hasnt grinded points in the room

Re: Opinion: Nintendo Needs To Let Us Block The Crap On Switch 2's eShop

sunspotty

it cant be that hard to let users block certain publishers from appearing in our feeds. that way indie developers wont be inhibited and customers wont have to deal with the "games" that are even an insult to shovelware. win-win

but yeah, this shouldnt even have to be a consideration. surely nintendo are losing money by having a barely-functioning eshop? theres essentially no "new releases" or "sale" tabs anymore since these are full of ai slop, so new games have less of a chance of being discovered and purchased. the 3ds eshop was pretty great because there was actual moderation. nintendo should punish publishers who constantly release things that can barely be called games, instead they push everyone toward dekudeals for god knows what reason

Re: Feature: 9 Things Nintendo Could Add To Switch 2 So It's Not 'Just Another Switch'

sunspotty

camera, mic and streetpass would be great for ds/3ds remakes and allow for more experimental features in games, maybe from newer developers who missed the ds era. streetpass especially would be a nice way to incentivise bringing the 3ds out with you, giving you something to do when waiting for the bus or train etc.

swappable backplates would be great, and would be a welcome replacement for limited edition consoles. let us add some colour!! slightly related but im hoping the base system has at least a white colourway, if not going in the way of the switch lites colours.

i would kind of hate joycons with specific features because theyd both be expensive and create heaps of what would functionally be electronic waste due to how situational theyd be, while they wouldnt be able to be used effectively in many games since not every player would be guaranteed to have them

reading through the other comments reminded me of an idea i had ages ago that imo would be sick if it was even remotely possible: a reason to keep your old switch while buying the new one by allowing an original switch to be used as a wii u gamepad. the switch 2 would be running the games while your original switch could connect to the top usb port, or maybe vice-versa for 3/ds virtual console which wouldnt be demanding but would require a mic and camera

Re: Random: Reddit Is Alight With Reports Of 'Pure Evil' Mario Party Jamboree Player

sunspotty

does this game have a report feature? i just dont think its funny to have a sexual username in a family-friendly game, nevermind just generally being annoying. as a fan of splatoon, ive had to deal with my fair share of inappropriate usernames and griefing/generally being annoying on purpose, and it really sours the experience. its all fun and games until youre the one getting matched with one of these losers when youre just trying to have a good time playing a game

Re: Random: "The Time Players Spend In A Game Is A Cost" - Sakurai Talks Long Runtimes

sunspotty

i wonder if theres any studies/surveys been done to see how age correlates to ideal game length. when i was younger i would gravitate towards really long games, but since i was like 21-22 and was settling into having an income ive ended up enjoying much shorter games. i dont even have a job (disabled, in case anyone gets notions) so i have a lot of free time, but i dont actually start that many games. i think i used to weigh price and play time since i would only get a few games every year, but now that price isnt as much of a consideration i guess time has also lost its significance for me??

anyways i really hope i can get back into some rpgs. i started fire emblem three houses recently and its been a struggle to keep going even though i really enjoy myself every play session 😩

Re: Braid: Anniversary Edition Sales Have Been "Utterly Terrible", Says Creator

sunspotty

i really just think this is the result of the games initial popularity. EVERYONES heard of this game, so pretty much everyone whos interested in it has already played it. i cant imagine remasters appeal to many people who have played the original, especially such a linear puzzle platformer. its not really a game many people would bother revisiting either

i personally did buy the remaster just because i've always wanted to get around to playing this game ive heard so much about over the years (it was a tough decision because i naturally have a pretty poor view of the creator lmao). but i really do think im in the minority, pretty much anyone else whos heard about it either decided to play it years ago or to never bother with it

Re: Capcom's Investors Want Monster Hunter Wilds On Switch, Because Of Course

sunspotty

we're all anticapitalists until the shareholders pull something like this 🙄🙄 fr i am really hoping for this to hit the switch successor, if it wasnt already in the works itd be sweet if this got them to consider a port!! having access to a powerful handheld means this mh generation HAS to hit the switch successor assuming wilds is a new generation (the 3ds got a few mh games, even though the 3ds was painfully unsuitable for them, so portability and local co-op are obviously huge for the series), so hopefully instead of a timed exclusive like rise we just get the same game as the other platforms.

definitely dont want them wasting time on the switch though. i see the appeal of a huge install base, but the switch has rise already. i dont want them compromising TOO much, rise was already very impressive for the switch imo, i cant imagine it doesnt push the switch to its limits considering capcom were part of the push for higher ram on the switch in the first place. and japan adores mh, they could sell the switch successor just by pushing the possibility of local multiplayer that wouldnt be possible with other platforms. please capcom... save it for the switch 2 or whatever we end up getting🙏

Re: Talking Point: The Switch eShop Could Be Great With These Few Tweaks

sunspotty

the only way i can browse the eshop is by using dekudeals, since afaik it recently started filtering out the shovelware publishers (and always sorted by popularity so those were never a huge issue). so yeah, being able to mute certain publishers so youd never see their games would be a game changer, though nintendo really just needs to bring back quality control. ban any generative ai "games" and all that softcore porn etc.

imo bundles should absolutely not be treated as new games, they should only show up on any applicable games pages, that way shovelware publishers like red deer games wouldnt be able to release 50 deluxe/ultra/mega editions every few days to stay at the top of the eshop.

and yeah, an actual refund option. theres an urban legend that nintendo allows returns if you phone them, but its only one return per person or something. i shouldnt have to go through all that!! i bought a game a few months ago and the eshop listing uses screenshots from another platform, the actual game runs and looks atrocious and i cant return it. this experience just made me super distrustful of the eshop and id much rather buy something on steam since i know i can return it if its falsely advertised. plus, tracking the number of refunds compared to the number of purchases so that if a games returned way more than is expected, nintendo could review the eshop page for any falsehoods

Re: Splatoon 3 Announces Fresh New Update (Version 8.1.0), Here Are The Full Patch Notes

sunspotty

@swoose oh wow i never wouldve considered that but it makes so much sense. some splatoon fans just... dont enjoy splatoon huh😭 blocking players just to make the game less challenging/fun is wild. the closest ive seen is people throwing mirror matches during splatfests bc theyre angry at having to play the game, so yeah i can definitely see this being an issue

very glad to hear about the lack of trolls in x at least, that lessens the potential blow a bit haha. it does tend to be the lower-skilled players who intentionally ruin other peoples games in turf and non-x ranked from my experience so that actually makes a lot of sense. hopefully in exchange for the anti-block feature theyll actually start investigating reports, at the very least the ones from x matches

Re: Splatoon 3 Announces Fresh New Update (Version 8.1.0), Here Are The Full Patch Notes

sunspotty

the "users youve played with" is the only way to block people as far as i know, i guess instead of fixing the matchmaking issues where they make you play against people youve blocked, theyre just not going to let you block them in the first place. so nice of them to refuse to punish people with extremely offensive usernames, AND forcing the people whove blocked them to still play with them. very appreciative of their community

and its only for x rank which is... weird? im glad i can still block people since i dont play x rank but i really cant see the rationale behind this. i guess theyre assuming teabagging and throwing is happening a lot less in x rank? but if thats the case, people wouldnt be blocking anyone for those reasons anyway!! it just truly makes zero sense and is honestly just discouraging me from ever trying to reach x rank since blocking is at least a nice placebo effect

Re: Rumour: Leaker Hints At New Nintendo Codenames, Persona 6 On 'Switch 2', And More

sunspotty

richard was links awakening so some people are assuming edward will be the oracle games. i would be so happy with an oracle of whatever the third one was gonna be in the links awakening style. unless they get the insane idea to make two games again?? theres no way theyd do that in this day and age though... right...?

of course, it could also just be that nintendo have moved on to english kings names for all the zeldas and this is totally unrelated to any remakes (and midori could be wrong obviously) so im not holding my breath lol. fun to speculate thougj

Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?

sunspotty

i consider a remake to be a different experience. even if the game in question has completely new code, graphics etc, if it plays the same and looks the same its a remaster to me (so wind waker hd is a remaster). i havent played pokemon bdsp, but from what ive seen they also lean closer to remaster since their goal was to replicate the experience of the originals without improving the visuals or gameplay

...one game that goes against my own definition is the remake of 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors, an amazing visual novel that should only be played on ds. thats not a remaster since the fundamentals of the game were changed (the dual screen mechanic was removed for obvious reasons) even though the graphics are just (poorly) remastered from the original ds game, the story and dialogue remains the same etc

Re: Splatoon 3 'Sizzle Season 2024' Introduces New Weapons, Stages And Big Run Mode Next Month

sunspotty

the final big run being announced is a huge shame, it would be really nice to schedule mini-big runs every weekend or month (aka normal salmon run rotations but on the big run maps) or let us create private salmon runs where we choose from all the stages like in post-splatfest splatoon 2.

its pretty obvious that this is the last (or maybe second-last) season, im hoping that splatoon 4 isnt a switch 2 launch title since that would put like 3 years (if even) between 3 and 4, which could set a really iffy precedent. people complained about 2 and 3 on the same console but they were still like 5 years apart, imo thats a really good time between games. plus itll be nice to not have to worry about catalogue points anymore 😩

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want To Reuse Your Joy-Con On 'Switch 2'?

sunspotty

i got my switch in late 2019 and somehow im only on my second set of joycons; as long as these dont get drift or l/r failure i want to keep using them for as long as possible. the "switch 2" is theorised to be bigger than the switch, meaning the joycons 2 will also be bigger. as an adult with embarassingly small hands, split joycons are my favourite controller of all time and i really want to keep using them without the potential strain that larger ones would cause

Re: 'Lake' Delivers Peaceful Narrative Postage On Switch Today

sunspotty

i just bought this on the eshop because i wanted to revisit it after playing it on my terrible, low-spec pc back when it released. oh my god this is atrocious, i guess i forgot whitethorn games published it but just seeing their logo in the opening scene was a massive red flag. god this is genuinely a worthless game on the switch, i cant believe they got away with this?? i dont care about framerates or graphics at all, and even i think both aspects are just unacceptable. might email nintendo and see if i could get a refund on this, hopefully the "one refund per person" rumour isnt true

Re: Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo Has Been Cancelled

sunspotty

the speculation on the threats being made by splatoon fans totally makes sense unfortunately. of all nintendo franchises, splatoon has the most toxic fanbase by far, it somehow draws in racist and alt-right creeps despite being a family-friendly game (i cant count the amount of racist or otherwise offensive usernames ive had to report, plus "fans" both in-game and on social media just REALLY do not like japanese people. the amount of mockery of the japanese language and "engrish" is WILD, so many splatoon fans joking about japanese people being inherently stupid because their native language isnt english)

so yeah, if the game attracts those types in the west i wouldnt be surprised if the same is true in japan. if only people could leave their... "politics" out of a family-friendly game that is aimed primarily at children

Re: Level-5's New Fantasy Life Game For Switch Has Reportedly Been Delayed

sunspotty

my wildest dream is that somehow level 5 realised this game was shaping up to be lifeless so they got the originals creative team back together to work on story and character design...
but yeah not surprised at the delay, it would be really nice if they realised the game needed a refresh before release though because it did not look good when they showed it off

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

sunspotty

people saying the next nintendo console not having backward compatibility could make the switch library obsolete...... as if thats not how its been with consoles forever. at some point compatibility has to be dropped for whatever reason. the switch launched with no backwards compatibility and it was perfectly fine.

i'd be hugely disappointed to not have backwards compatibility to take advantage of the upgraded hardware, but it wouldnt be a dealbreaker by any means. though the worst case scenario would be a botw situation where the same game drops on both systems since the newer one doesnt have backwards compatibility...

Re: Feature: Digital Doppelgangers - Home Vs. Handheld Adaptations In The 2000s

sunspotty

thanks for reminding me of the sore lack of an urbz 2... im seriously convinced that the best way to keep the sims on consoles is through spinoffs like the urbz. an urbz 2 with a greater focus on building and designing would be so cool, like you play as some kind of city planner having to revitalise the original games districts to bring people back. yes ive dreamed about this😔

Re: Review: Fae Farm - A Thoughtful, Utterly Gorgeous Farm Sim, But Avoid The NPCs

sunspotty

since rune factory was mentioned, im wondering how comparable the social interractions are to a typical rune factory? i always get so sick of my partners in rf once they start repeating dialogue (though at least unlocking them as party members and sometimes allowing me into their shops early made the early socialising worth it)
glad to hear that the games generally good though, cant wait to play it tomorrow! i bit the bullet preordering it on a whim, and since kate seems to have similar taste to me im pretty damn certain i'll enjoy it

Re: Review: Rune Factory 3 Special - The Same Great Farm Sim/RPG, Though 'Special' Is A Stretch

sunspotty

so what im seeing here is that the only quality of life feature is the ability to plant stuff regardless of season (at least, i think that was a limitation in the original)?? whenever i tried to find info on this game, it was QoL this, QoL that... yet the crafting and inventory management (which are pretty much THE worst parts of rf3) havent been improved??? and of course the awful backgrounds havent been improved from rf4s. who is going to tell these devs that you cant just put a game through waifu2x and call it a day

Re: Splatoon 3's Deep Cut Crew Are Getting Their Own Amiibo Line

sunspotty

def going to try to preorder these... but god they're disappointing. shiver's fine, but fryes eye looks so simple? and big mans design is so simple that any quality issues will be super noticeable. amiibos have definitely tanked in quality over time (even compare callie and marie to marina and pearl, the latter two are more glossy/cheap plastic-ey and have worse paintjobs)... i will admit the fabric textures on these are nice though, so maybe they'll be better than i'm assuming

Re: Stylish Switch Exclusive 'Fashion Dreamer' Stitches November Release Date In The West

sunspotty

@Friscobay those 20,000 items were like, 5+ colourways of each item, hell there were some items that were used across multiple brands iirc? so 1,400 items is not as small as you'd think since we can customise the colours

(dont want to double comment so treat this as a seperate comment lol) if anyones on the fence the games almost definitely going to be €40 or equivalent; its close to that in japan, and marvelous price a lot of games at €40 over here so they likely wont try to charge more

Re: Keiji Inafune Is The Producer Of Level-5's New Fantasy Life Game On Switch

sunspotty

...people reacting as if this is bad news when the games been doomed for ages lmaoooo. the games being primarily developed by a mobile studio level 5 acquired, the same studio was behind the terrible fantasy life online. and theres not been any indication that level 5 itself will have much if any involvement outside of publishing. the character designs look to be completely different too (laura looks unrecogniseable for instance), the amazing character designer of the original is probably not involved either. really hoping they at the very least brought nobuo uematsu back

Re: Sega Explains Why Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection Costs $80

sunspotty

they clearly didnt put any effort into these (the FOEs being orange blobs on the map when that was clearly just a hardware limitation on the ds, im pretty sure the draw distance is awful here too. plus 3d models of a lot of the enemies already exist from the 3ds games, and the enemies in this series really cant be done justice in 2d portraits). it wouldve meant a lot to have eoiii be elevated to the level of the 3ds games, instead we pretty much get a straight up port. its a shame we never got an untold version, or even just a normal remaster in the 3ds engine

Re: New Fashion Game 'Fashion Dreamer' Announced Exclusively For Switch

sunspotty

this looks so much like style boutique, down to the character animations. hopefully it lives up to sb, but yeah im not surprised we still havent seen a new entry in the series since syn sophia must have their hands full with primagi and idol land. if anything this will just make it harder for syn sophia to drop another style boutique game lmao
