Re: Bandai Namco Patches Pac-Man World With Original Staff Credits & More

silverdamascus

One thing I hated about this remake, in the original version, Pac-Man finds out that the big robotic villain was just a ghost inside a robot, the ghost asks for forgiveness, but then Pac-Man doesn't give that, and bites the ghost anyway.

In the remake, the original ending is the bad ending, the good ending is Pac-Man forgiving the ghost even though he kidnapped his family and tried to kill him.

Yeah, that keeps happening in videogames, to find the villain, the hero kills hundreds of his henchmen, many of them maybe weren't even evil, just couldn't find another job, but when the hero finally meets the villain, let's spare him or even forgive him, because if you kill him, you will be just like him, what about the henchmen that didn't get the same mercy?

Re: Sonic Team Listening To Frontiers Feedback, Wants To Take Series To "Greater Heights"

silverdamascus

Congratulations once again for showing why nowadays, buying games at launch is a bad idea, why pay more for a game that is incomplete if they are going to fix it later and also sell it for lower?

As for the sequel, Sonic Frontiers is yet another divisive Sonic game, so the sequel should please those who liked it and those who didn't, get the things that worked and make them better, get the things that didn't work and fix them, get the things that were always bad ideas and throw them away, that's how a good sequel is made, but no, get ready for once again, Sonic Team starting the next Sonic game from scratch.

Re: Soapbox: Paper Mario: Sticker Star Was When The Series Came Unstuck

silverdamascus

It's common to say that fanbases don't want change, they want their franchises to stay always the same, but it's been 19 years since a traditional Paper Mario was released, the series stayed for less time in it's traditional format than the current format.

Paper Mario fans who want the series to go back to the gameplay of Paper Mario 64 and Thousand-Year Door are not rejecting change, they are demanding change.

Re: Random: No, Nintendo Of America Didn't Tweet A Pic Of Mario Flipping The Bird

Elon Musk is an idiot, how in the hell he became the world's richest man? He is likely like Trump, much of his fortune is fake.

It's so easy to understand that the blue checkmark is not a badge of honor, it's not a way to make your account superior than the others, and it is not a way to make money, there were many jokes about how the worst posts on Twitter came from those who had checkmarks, but the whole point of them is that if an account has the name and photo of a famous person, or the name and logo of a company, it's not an impostor, it really is the person/company, this was made to stop fake accounts who impersonate others, and Elon Musk is so dumb he doesn't get it.

Re: Review: Sonic Frontiers - A Bold But Ultimately Failed Attempt At Something New

silverdamascus

Also, there are people who liked Sonic Frontiers, so all that Sega needs to do, is make a sequel to Sonic Frontiers that fixes most of its issues, it's still open-world, but they will get what worked and improve on it, get what didn't work and either fix or throw it away, polish the game more next time, a since they have a template, they can make the game bigger while also making it deeper, but no, get ready for Sonic Team to start everything from scratch next time and come up with a bunch of different gimmicks, don't get surprised if Sega even gives up on open-world Sonic games for years.

Re: Review: Sonic Frontiers - A Bold But Ultimately Failed Attempt At Something New

silverdamascus

People complain that so many franchises become stale, that franchise got boring because it's always the same thing, not only people get sick of playing the same game again and again, but also the franchise refuses to evolve and use the advancements of the videogame industry to its benefit, the franchise declined because it never changes.

Sonic is a rare case where the franchise declined because it changes too much, every game has to reinvent the wheel, every game needs to have new stuff, that often no one asked, instead of just getting the stuff that worked on previous games and just improving and expanding on them, they need to make a completely different game, they could take risks if the franchise was doing well on 3D, but it isn't, they can't even do corridor stages properly, and they are already trying to make an open world.

Re: Random: Sega Is Hiring Someone To Help Keep Sonic's Lore In Check

silverdamascus

@Dr_Lugae The Sonic franchise is such a mess that they can't even decide if Sonic's planet is another planet, or it's the earth in the future, something many different Sonic adaptations keep flip-flopping, and I think the actual games never properly stated.

Also, another big reason why the Sonic franchise is a mess when making a timeline, is that first, Classic Sonic was supposed to be Sonic from the past, then it's Sonic from another universe, despite Modern Sonic remembering the adventures that Classic Sonic had in the Mega Drive era.

Re: Random: Sega Is Hiring Someone To Help Keep Sonic's Lore In Check

silverdamascus

Beware, worrying too much about lore and continuity can be bad for the franchise.

Mario went the SpongeBob way and has little to no canon and continuity, while games constantly reference the previous games, they aren't putting the story of the previous games on the way of new ones.

Sonic is a sad case where they flip-flopped on caring about lore or not, and putting many, many different ideas on the franchise to the point I don't think a Sonic timeline can be properly made without contradictions.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Simpsons Game?

silverdamascus

@MarioBrickLayer The main problem is that they were made by multiple developers, so bringing them all back would likely be a copyright mess not worth clearing.

The Cowabunga Collection only has the games made by Konami.

Re: Bayonetta 3 Gets Day One Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

silverdamascus

For the people who claim that physical media is superior, nope, it's not perfect:

  • It can be lost, broken or stolen.
  • Even if you take care of it, it does not last forever, cartridges and discs will someday stop working, even if never used.
  • Recent discs are not made to last, made with cheap plastic.
  • Preserving the software means nothing without the hardware to run it, many classic consoles and computers are breaking down and can't be fixed, while modern consoles are much more fragile not all consoles can have those clones.
  • It takes space, not everyone can have shelves full of games.
  • Older games can have physical copies around, but they may cost a fortune, maybe even more than a new current gen console, in recent years, videogame collecting became a very expensive hobby.
  • Arcades are a big example of physical media that doesn't work, they are expensive, they are rare, they are big and only rich people can have them at home, they are hard to fix, and many classic arcades were never ported into home versions, or had inferior ports.
  • And most important, in many cases nowadays, physical media is just a fancy digital purchase, you still need internet and servers to play the good or complete version of the game, get DLC, play online, or just play at all, many games require internet and servers working even if you buy physical.

For personal use, physical games still have a lot of advantages over digital games, but they aren't a godsend, and neither physical or digital media are good for videogame preservation, the only option is piracy.

Re: Stylish '90s Inspired 3D Platformer Lunistice Gets A New Switch Release Date

silverdamascus

Linear 3D platformers > Open world 3D platformers.

Mario 64 is a great game, Banjo too, Spyro too, but in the end, platformers that are more corridor like are more focused on action instead of exploration and are more similar to the classic 2D platformers of the past, Mario 64 changed the Mario formula too much, people kinda dislike or forgot about Super Mario 3D Land and World, but they are what Super Mario 64 should have been.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Responds To Online Backlash In Ongoing Dispute

silverdamascus

Even if the original story of getting paid 4000 Kamalas for one job was true:

  • If I decided to boycott every single videogame that done something like this or worse, what would I play? What about Saudi Arabia beheading journalists and buying Nintendo stocks and entire companies like SNK? What about the chinese semi-slaves making our consoles?
  • When comparing her salary to how much money they spent and how much it sells, it's a low salary, but when compared to most jobs, it's a big salary.
  • Nope, Bayonetta is not a big franchise, without the money from Nintendo, it could have died with only one game, and PlatinumGames is not rich, they could have gone bankrupt.
  • She is not a big star, someone that will make people buy the game only thanks to her.

Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Update Available, Here Are The Patch Notes

silverdamascus

@mereel Plus, people keep saying how physical media is much better than digital purchases, since you own them, but thanks to DLC, updates, patches and online functionalities, without internet, you can't play the good or complete version of a game, sometimes, you can't play at all, if you don't have internet, or the servers are closed, your physical copy is a paperweight.

Re: Bayonetta 3 Dev Responds To Voice Actor Dispute In Official Statement

silverdamascus

  • At first I was on her side, but then it's likely she lied, and now we are in a she said he said loop.
  • I was never going to boycott this game anyway, it's sad to see voice actors getting paid so little, but if I decided to boycott every single game that does this or something worse, what would I play?
  • I am currently boycotting Activision Blizzard, but I admit that I can't be coherent and boycott everything that is just as bad or worse.
  • Saudi Arabia is investing in games, a country that beheads journalists, China is making our computers, phones and videogames with half-slavery, and this is what people focus on.
  • While it's true that compared to all the money Bayonetta makes, she is not getting paid much, 4.000 Kamalas or 20.000 Kamalas, but compared to most jobs, she should be considered lucky.
  • She is not a big star, someone that will make more copies of the game get sold thanks to her name alone.
  • Videogames are made by many, many people, you can't pay a big salary for every single employee.
  • Platinum games is not that rich, they could have gotten bankrupt, and no, Bayonetta is not that big of a series, if it wasn't for Nintendo's money, the franchise could have died with one game.
  • Asking for residuals is asking too much, even the biggest Hollywood stars have a hard time getting a piece of the money of their movies, and when they do, they get scammed by getting profits instead of gross and then earn nothing, most mainstream works of media are work for hire, even if you ask for just a penny for every copy sold, it's hard to get it.

Re: Talking Point: Given The Voice Artist Controversy, Will You Be Boycotting Bayonetta 3?

silverdamascus

It's sad, but if I decided to boycott every single videogame that done stuff like this, what would I play? I love the Crash and Spyro series and I am currently boycotting them thanks to the Activision scandals, but I don't want to boycott them forever, I can't boycott every single videogame and videogame company.

Plus, Platinum Games is not that rich, I think they almost got bankrupt and they can't pay huge salaries for voice actors, and I don't think Bayonetta is that much of a big franchise, it was always niche and Nintendo had to save it, it if wasn't for Nintendo, Bayonetta would have died with one game.

Re: N64 Classic Perfect Dark Has Been Decompiled, Paving The Way For PC Ports

silverdamascus

Once again, it would be great if projects like this were legal, with copyright laws being revised, to make sure more works of media could enter the public domain and become free to share and modify, with current laws, there will be no public domain videogames until 2067 except for donations.

In USA there used to be a renewal option, copyright lasted 28 years, but you could ask for 28 more, and just once, most people never came back to renew because they didn't care or died, allowing many unused works to be free for everyone to use, then movie and music companies, and most famously, the one that has a mouse as a mascot, changed copyright laws especially because they wanted to keep the mouse for longer, and instead of adding the option of renewing twice, they killed the renew option and now it's 95 years, applying even to those books, movies and games that are out of print for decades and aren't making any money, they won't try more changes, the mouse is ours in 2024, but the damage is done.

Re: Mario Kart Tour Brings Back Classic GBA Course In Halloween Tour

silverdamascus

Mario Kart: Super Circuit is one of those games I wanted to like, but I can't, I keep coming back to that game and I keep disliking the controls, I don't know if it's my fault for not playing the game properly.

But the game has a lot of good content, I love when the tracks and the soundtrack comes back, and yes, like usual, the composers did a great job, but the GBA soundchip is not good enough so it's good to see more GBA tracks getting remixed.

Re: Random: The Original 'Black Box' Art For NES Zelda Resurfaces, And Link Is Happy

silverdamascus

I never confirmed this story, but I heard that these "Black Box" NES covers existed because back in the days, games for consoles like Atari had those beautiful, artistic covers, but when people bought the games and played them, the actual game didn't look anything like the cover, to earn trust, Nintendo released those covers using pixelated images to show how the game actually looks like.

When the NES became a hit, there was no need for these covers anymore.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Mario's Movie Voice?

silverdamascus

"Charles Martinet only knows how to make short voice lines, he can't do the Mario voice for 1h30m"

Armageddon production:

Ben Affleck: "Why the movie is about oil drillers learning how to go to space? Isn't it easier to get astronauts who know already how to go to space and teach them how to drill?"

Michael Bay: "Shut the f*** up."

Same here, if Charles Martinet can't do the Mario voice for 1h30m, it should be easier to teach him how to do a 1h30m movie than teaching a new actor to do the Mario voice.

And that didn't happen, Chris Pratt is doing his regular voice.
