Bigben and Kylotonn Racing Games have released a new trailer for V-Rally 4, showing off two of the five 'disciplines' that will appear in the game later this year.
The first of these is V-Rally Cross, where races throw you into intense battles with seven other racers on tracks with a mix of dirt and asphalt. The second mode - 'Buggy' - unsurprisingly features buggies. These are much lighter and more agile than the rally cars in other modes, offering a different driving experience on particularly hazardous and spectacular courses.
The other three disciplines on offer will be as follows:
- Rally: From Africa to Japan, travel the world across difficult tracks in extreme conditions.
- Extreme-Khana: You will have to be precise and master drifting to be the best on these obstacle courses.
- Hillclimb: Race to the top behind the wheel of powerful cars.
This modernised take on the series, which hasn't seen a release since way back in 2003 with V-Rally 3, will also feature a career mode, online game modes (with details expected to be revealed soon), and split-screen multiplayer. The game will be available on other systems in September this year, with a Switch release coming "at a later date".
Are you up for some realistic, intense rally racing on the go? Make sure to let us know if V-Rally 4 is racing towards a spot on your Switch game wishlist below.

I'm after a more standard racing game, and that mobile port one (forget its name) looked terrible. So hopefully this will sate that itch.
Looking forward to this one! Too many hours spent playing V-Rally 99 on N64.
If they don't muck it up, I'll be getting this.
@XenoShaun
I own Gear.Club Unlimited. I enjoy it.
I have the physical copy.
So where exactly is the gameplay footage?!? That top-down view scares me....
@Gold_Ranger: Gear.Club is great. Played through em all. Great racer.
@Gold_Ranger ditto. Solid game.
Bigben? After the disgraceful Tennis incident? Nope.
Looks fun.
Can’t wait hope it’s good. Love a good rally game
Great to see a quality non-kart racer coming to Switch. Interested.
Finally a standard racing game I'll keep my eye on this one. No futuristic kart racing thing or kart racing anything. Too much of those IMO on switch. With that being said I still hope for F Zero.
Been hooked on these since i played v-rally 3 on gba definitely getting this one
"with a Switch release coming "at a later date"."
Until it's cancelled. Or the online is dropped. Nitneod has a long bad history with 3rd party racing games.
I think I need this game! This just might be the racing SIM on a Nintendo system I've been craving for what seems like decades. Please be at least good!
@rjejr While I agree with you the Switch is hot right now so no reason to screw us over. They want this out just as bad as I want it.
Hopefully it's realistic with tuning that actually does stuff and a competitive online/leader board. Scratch that Forza itch....#PortForza4. That will NEVER happen.
I bought Gear club for my son and I could not get into it. The cars don't feel right. It feels like a bad old game. The customization is okay but it's not what I thought it would be. My son loves the game but it doesn't click with me.
If this game has drifting, rally racing, and sprints then it would be more of what I want. Usually you can't customize cars in rally games so I'm still undecided.
@Spoony_Tech "so no reason to screw us over."
Did you not see this article from earlier today?
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/06/all-star_fruit_racing_has_no_online_multiplayer_on_switch_and_its_unreal_engine_4s_fault
It has less to do with screwing us over and more to do with well all of those games Wii U was promised but never got. Project Cars, Y-L. How many games have to get messed up on Switch before people stop using the Wii U install base an an excuse? It's going to be like current Presidents constantly blaming stuff on their predecessors.
@super08mario: Hey, if gear.club is not for you to each his own. But the handling and feel of the cars is very different from car to car and class to class, and the upgrade further change the handling for the better.
@Ooyah: Bigben was a huge catch. Ice water on my expectations here.
Really hoping this is good. Big Ben doest have the best track record with racing games, their WRC games have been very mediocre. Wish Codemasters would bring over Dirt 4, that would be amazing!
@redd214 that would be awesome, but i do worry about how there's no analog triggers for gas varation. it's sad to me that nintendo invented that but didn't put it on everything like everyone else did
@Gold_Ranger @PhilKenSebben @bluedogrulez What's it like? From what I've seen it didn't look very good at all. Would be nice to see what those actually played it think. The physical is still fairly pricey over here though which put me off further.
They had me till that Switch version coming at later date thing so its a no go for me .
Looks solid! Moving forward, there would ever be a Need for Speed tittle for Switch??
@amanatee ahh shoot, forgot about the triggers. You're right definitely wouldn't play as well with digital.
I really want this to be good but other games from bigben interactive I have played (wrc games on xb1) have been very uninspiring. Going to wait to see how it reviews before even giving any consideration to it.
‘From the people that brought you 20% complete world tour tennis’......expectations tempered
@amanatee @redd214 Are analog triggers really useful for anything in racers?
I mean, I played enough racing games on different systems with analog triggers, but I never saw any use in them. Basically I had always used them like digital buttons and never felt like there is a disadvantage in doing that...
Maybe I played the wrong games, but if there are games that work fine without analog triggers, it still doesn't answer the question to me what makes them so important.
@Kirgo more throttle control. Similar to driving in a real car, you can lightly press the gas and creep forward or slam it down full throttle. Makes a huge difference in some more realistic games not as much in more arcade racers. I play mostly racing games and it can have a huge impact in higher level play. Can't imagine playing a game like Gran Turismo, Forza, or even the Dirt games without them.
Definitely not buying any game from this publisher after their announcement regarding World Tour Tennis. I can forgive a publisher releasing a buggy game, but come on, their CEO might as well have literally unbuttoned his trousers and urinated on us all, because he sure did it figuratively. I've never seen anyone in video games show such naked contempt for his audience and the retailers who work with them. No more Bigben games for me, ever.
@XenoShaun That port from mobiles game (Gears.Club Unlimited) may not feature super wow graphics but it is an excellent game. You should try it out.
@rjejr
sounds like yet another Nintendo fumble to me.
Will wait for a review. Bigben…ewww...
I hope this game turns out well on the Switch, we could really use some more real racing games. I am pretty tired of all the kart racers and would like something more aimed at car enthusiasts.
@redd214 They managed to make Gran Turismo work really well on the PSP so I don't see why they can't make something more realistic work on the Switch. All you need is to have a decent traction control system in place. I mean sure it isn't as ideal as having analog triggers but it is great to have a portable sim-like racer.
@JayJ yeah there's examples of it working but like you said not ideal. Gear Club Unlimited certainty would've benefited from the extra amount of control
@XenoShaun: It plays a lot like Roadsters 64. Real cars with play that is not quite arcade racing and certainly not sim. Upgrades abound. There are a crazy number of courses (over 100) and circuits. Most are on road, but some are off-road. Interestingly, some races are only 45 seconds long, others last 2:30, which seems really short at first, but pairs well with playing the Switch on the run. Graphics are very good (by Nintendo standards). Yes, the physical was something like $45, but given the heavy amount of play I got out of it, very worthwhile. (Full disclosure: I love racers and swear that Star Wars Episode 1 Racer is one of the greatest games made to date).
@Cosats @bluedogrulez Certainly sounds interesting. Amazon UK have it for £27 odd so may give it a try. Can always return it if it isn't my kind of thing but from what you guys say sounds something I would enjoy.
I'm not a massive racing fan, but can get enjoyment out of arcade ones (really liked Sega Rally and Daytona) and have had fun with the latter Forza games (5 and horizon 3). I also enjoyed Gran Turismo 3 (and 4 to an extent). Was fun starting with a crappy car and working your way to getting supercars.
@Grogan Without analog triggers I don't think we'll ever see a sim-oriented Switch racing game like Forza. I know people have mentioned you could use the right analog stick for throttle, but I think that would be so awkward that I doubt any developer would do that. That said, I'm pretty hopeful given the video.
Maybe...
Big Ben... 😬 Tough call
I have mine preordered. I’m itching for rally racing in the worst way.
I’m a huge fan of the sport.
@super08mario @Gold_Ranger @XenoShaun @bluedogrulez
I’m happy to try most games, and it’s fine if you enjoy it, but at a full price release, it’s pretty obvious to me that Gear Club is a mobile game port - it does not feel honest or fair to be charging or releasing games like this at that price when other consoles have games at the quality of Forza or GT for example.
It’s definetely not for me. At $10 I would have accepted it.
I’m hoping V-Rally turns out great, but there’s something about the graphics that screams ‘mobile port’ or ‘Indie developer’.... That’s fine if the gameplay is great, but I’m being very ‘cautiously’ optimistic about this one - will definetely wait for the reviews.
I'd rather have The Crew 2 on the Switch.
But whatever, I'll play it on PC anyway.
No analogue triggers sucks. Same for Moto GP. God knows how the bikes will handle on switch without analogue triggers
@kobashi100 In games like Forza, or the Codemaster racing games such as the Dirt or F1 games, if you enable driving aids such as traction control, you can get away with crude on/off throttle control. So I imagine you could take a sim-oriented driving game, and just make it behave as if it always has traction control on, and it could still be fairly realistic in other ways. But I agree lack of analog throttle is a disadvantage for driving games.
Always enjoyed the V-Rally series and just love Rally games in general. I love to take in the beautiful scenery as i drive! In regards to the negative comments about Big Ben above, I reserve hope for this as it’s a different dev! Also this would be the Switch’s first Rally game!!
"Bigben and Kylotonn Racing Games..."
"Bigben..."
Will this game be more than 20% complete at launch?
Waiting it right now!!, ah, and waiting more info video for the another races modes!
@Dethmunk Things just haven't been working out well for us racing fans here on the Switch lately, lets hope for the best. It seems like developers are trying to put in a better effort lately at least. The fact that we got a good preview of the Switch version says a lot of good though.
With bigben basically mocking people with their new tennis game. I'm very worried what kind of glitches v rally will face I love this game please don't destroy it
