French video game publisher and developer Microids has signed what it's calling a "historic" agreement with Taitos to produce two new games based on the Japanese company's famous franchises.
Both games are "already in production" and are scheduled to launch sometime next year in 2022. Microids says both of the games are being developed by "experienced studios" and promises the titles will be a great addition to the studios' portfolios.
Microids CEO, Stéphane Longeard, said the French company was excited to unveil the two projects and believes they will "surprise a lot of people". President and Representative Director of Taito Corp, Katsuhiko Iwaki, said the Japanese company had "full confidence in Microids" to revive two of its licenses and mentioned how gamers would be "amazed" by this "come back".
Both companies certainly sound excited. What famous Taito franchises do you think will be revived? Tell us down below.

A new Taito game? So based on their prices for old games, I can expect MSRP to be about $600?
I love Taito, I can't wait to hear more.
I would be excited about this too if it wasn't Microids that's involved..
Please let it be Lufia, please let it be Lufia…
Q : What famous Taito franchises do you think will be revived?
Me : FLIPULL, Cooking Mama (again), Gardening Mama 3, Camping Mama 2, Minna no series by Taito from NDS
Hopefully it's Lufia or even Lost Magic.
I’m guessing Bust A Move/Puzzle Bobble
After they allowed Blacksad to be released in that state (and I'm not sure any patches have fixed performance so far), I'm really not that hyped as I could be...
Any idea why Square Enix allows Taito to have so much leeway?
I would love a new Lufia game, but a new puzzle bobble would also be a win.
@ecco6t9 I'm not sure the exact arrangement, but it seems Taito's relationship with Square Enix changed a few years ago when they started publishing games again. Square Enix mainly seems involved in Taito's toys and UFO catcher-style arcade machines these days, and I don't think they have a lot to do with their new console games.
Please, Lufia II is one of my favorites games of all time, loved the story and the dungeons filled with puzzles. The music was great and the combat fun. Revive it please!
Operation Wolf??
Anyway sounds interesting but I’m actually more interested in seeing more Taito classics coming from Hamster! And there’s a ton yet!
So many people in the comments mention the Lufia franchise. I love this community! 😍
Another Lufia supporter here. I'd love to finally see Lufia 5. I'd prefer a traditional one, but I never played the DS one, so I don't have room to judge that one's style.
Probably in the minority, but I'm really hoping a new Darius game is involved.
Only 1 year development needed? Probably Puzzle Bobble then.
Rastan, please!
Chase hq? Operation Wolf/Thunderbolt? Arknoid?! I expect it will be Space Invaders...
I just find this very sad. The once mighty TAITO relying on a Western, second rate, third party developer to resurrect their old IP.
Is there no way they could keep this in house?
I doubt it but would love to see the New Zealand story revived and Rainbow Islands
Absolutely love Taito, there arcade games are the stuff of legend for me personally. Dont have my hopes to high for this collaboration, unfortunately the golden age of gaming has long passed. Luckily still play all the classics though.
@ecco6t9 Probably has to do with their arrangement. They are in the same building so I imagine there's a lot of communication that goes on between them.
For the love of god let it be Lufia!
This is so exciting. A new Rastan Saga would be splendid indeed, but I guess we will have to be patient.
Microids??? Jesus christ might as well just dump the game in a landfill. Don't even bother releasing it. Goddamnit 😐😐😐
Please be it Monkey Puncher 2 👊👊👊
Cameltry. You know it makes sense.
Please be a new Space Invaders! PLEASE BE A NEW SPACE INVADERS!
Arkanoid needs to come back in its traditional form.
@Snoyflake Microids is actually one of the few 1980's game developers left besides Activision, EA, Sumo (Gremlin) and some others.
@X68000 Looking at your nick, i guess you owned Amiga, C64 or something?
@Ventilator I'm a big fan of the Sharp X68000. Been lucky to have had one since 1991 and now just trying to keep then working!
Ps. I did have an Amiga A500 back in the day too.
@X68000 Cool. Most things back then used 68K CPU..Arcade machines, Atari, Sega, MAC and more
Hmm... If I had to pick a couple of games, I hope it's Arkanoid (Arkanoid DS wasn't too shabby though...) and the Lufia series (new story entry LONG overdue).
@alexybubble Curse of the Sinistrals was a restyled Lufia II: Rise of the Sinisrals that cut A LOT of chaff from the first version, but I felt it lost a lot of the heart in translation, but that's imho.
@MeloMan
Arkanoid VS Space Invaders is on Space Invaders Forever and Space Invaders Invincible Collection and it's great (handheld-mode-only, however).
@EmirParkreiner Thanks I'll have to give that a try!
