Square Enix's rumoured Chocobo Racing sequel has been revealed, and it really looks like Mario Kart.

Chocobo GP launches exclusively on Switch in 2022 and features a cast of Square Enix characters power-sliding around circuits that wouldn't look out of place in Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart's signature slide-boost is also present, but then again, it's been in practically every kart-based racing game for the past decade, so we can't grumble too much.

Collecting items is a big part of the game, too, but a special magic system means it should be a little more unique. Each character also has its own unique ability, and you'll be able to customise your ride as the game progresses. Local and online play will also be supported, with 64 players able to take part in a bracket-style online tournament.

Does the Switch really need another Mario Kart-style game when it already has Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, though? We'll find out next year, it seems. If anyone can bring something fresh to the table to make this one stand out, it's Square Enix.
