The landscape is different today. Back then we had defined generations. These days the updates are more iterative, with a far longer cross-gen release schedule. Coupled with the digital investments made, it is not as important for all users to be on the latest hardware release, so long as they can still buy software (where the money is made). So it makes more sense to suggest the last gen is still available, more so than 2013 at least.
Shame about the lack of achievements. To all the people that don’t like them, you can simply turn off the notifications and forget they exist. People that do like them are fully out of luck.
@ozwally My guess is that the upgrade pack allows a download of a full native Switch 2 version, which would then run natively on the hardware, provided the cart is inserted. Emulation is very resource intensive, can’t see them being able to run it at 60fps via emulation, to be honest. Likely it will work similar to PS5, where the PS4 disc in the system allows for the downloaded PS5 version to play.
I do wonder how the upgrade packs will work with games purchased in other regions though. I have many US and Japanese carts, my UK account DLC seems to work fine with them. I hope the same can be said about these upgrade packs.
Good luck actually being able to move once inside…. I went last week and it was a massive disappointment. Awful organisation, too many people inside (they issue opening timeslots but don’t force people out who went in earlier, so if you’re a later time slot you stand no chance of being able to do anything once inside), over 2 hour wait for rides…. Nintendo have enough money to build their own park rather than have a small corner of universal…I left after 20 mins and a couple of photos, had more fun hunting down Nintendo games around thrift stores.
@Anti-Matter So when you buy a Honda Civic, do you only drive it on the roads that Honda specify? Do you promise to keep the car stock, and not modify it in any way? You pay your money (which I 100% agree with), you play how you want.
Only a fool would think that this is the end. Forks of Yuzu will return, highly likely from China or Russia, no chance of legal action there. Ryujinx is Brazil-based, they will likely never be able to bring legal action there either.
Doubt the Switch could run the 360/XB games emulated, MS would need to port them all and that would be far too expensive. For 64 & older, it would cabibalise Nintendo’s online service
Nice, looks good. Just hope they don’t force the option to “twist jump” on a double tap of the jump button like they did in NSMBU deluxe. At the very least have the option to turn it off
I’m all for emulation, just so long as I own a copy of the game. I own the Wii U copy of BOTW and much prefer to play it in a vastly superior state using the CEMU emulator. I will do the same for Tears of the Kingdom via one of the emulators once I purchase a copy in the future.
The Sonic 3 barrel is beatable using timed jumps. With Sonic the bubble shield makes it easier, but me and my mate also did it with tails when we were younger, frustrating but possible. It took 5 years to figure out the up down method, there was no internet back then so unless you accidentally discovered the method you were out of luck. I remember the day I figured it out, I was playing S3&K on the mega drive and my mate was playing my Dreamcast on his other TV! We were both in shock after realising you could just press up and down!!
@Pink_Floyd So I tried to get the Poke Transporter recently on a new account. I downloaded bank and placed an Alpha Sapphire cart in. When I started Bank (without an active subscription) it basically wouldn’t let me do anything. Once I subscribed it allowed me in and I could follow the link to the eshop page to download the Transporter (only available to access through bank). I know that Bank will become free to use after the eshop closes in March, but from my understanding you won’t be able to access the Transporter after the eshop closes. If anyone could clarify this it would be great. As the subscription is only £4 I just paid it to get it, just to be safe. Without Transporter you wouldn’t be able to import from gen 5 or the gens 1&2 remakes.
I could see this happening, there have been a few bigger Nintendo sets now with the Mario 64 block, Bowser and NES. The NES was actually very fun to build and looks great. I’d buy this if they released it.
The switch version would be fine to play handheld, you wouldn’t notice the lower frame rate as much on the smaller screen. I wouldn’t bother with it on a big TV though, would play one of the other consoles.
Sounds good to me. The fact he grew up with the games is a good sign he will voice Mario well. Great for the movie, BUT I wouldn’t want Charles Martinet replaced for games, keep the two separate. The movie looks great from the trailer.
@B_Lindz So that’s why they’d re-program the games to remove limitations regarding physics being tied to 30fps. Skyward Sword was originally 30 and they managed it there with the remaster.
Playing this at 60fps, with correct physics, is going to be pretty special. I’m definitely waiting a few months before playing it so as more mods are available. Also I love the fact that Nintendo can do nothing to stop these clean room projects, hoping for more N64 ports in future.
@Zebetite Why would they be entitled to anything? The original devs would’ve had an employment contract with the original publisher, which would’ve been fulfilled with their pay at the time. The franchise has since changed hands and the new owner is free to do as they wish. Also why should digital eclipse not be entitled to any money for their work?
@anoyonmus They can’t. It’s a clean room creation. The only copyrighted contents are contained in the original ROM file, of which you must provide separately.
@Clyde_Radcliffe They don’t prioritise system sales, it’s all about Game Pass subscriptions, that is their future and this acquisition is as big as it comes. Even if COD still releases on PlayStation the mere fact that it will be £60 there as opposed to free as part of a Game Pass subscription will push more casuals towards MS.
@Codessa I've owned a C8 and C9 LG OLED and both are fully 50Hz compatible (EU models, tested with retro consoles via OSSC). Pretty certain that all EU OLEDS can natively refresh 50Hz. The issue is that the Switch console itself doesn't have the option to output the signal.
This will cause timing issues due to the switch outputting the signal at 60Hz. Pretty certain the console is unable to output at 50Hz, plus there's the internal screen too. Will be a juddery mess. Will be passing on this. Extremely lazy, especially given the fact you'll be paying extra for the subscription. They should be reworking the additional languages into the NTSC ROMs. Or at the very least enable a 50Hz output option from the console via HDMI, almost all EU TVs are capable of 50Hz native refresh, that would eliminate the judder.
I’d still rather have a switch as a handheld. I play handheld a lot less than at home on the TV. I’d rather play PC games on a more powerful system at higher frame rates & settings as opposed to a cut down experience on the go. I ordered an OLED switch which I think will be great.
@BlueOcean I’m sure it won’t turn out that way though. There will be a completely new world with a million other characters most likely. One can dream though, a BOTW sized Angel Island....
This would be great as a 3D open world reimagining of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. A fully 3D Angel Island, freedom to move around all the zones, ONLY Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as playable characters. Each ‘zone’ could have a large free roaming area with individual ‘acts’ around the edges/throughout that you enter into seamlessly (with a cutscene or two) to complete certain tasks. That I would pay good money for, maybe even the £70 launch cost of today’s games.
I’m sure the S3&K footage was placeholder, it will need to be developed, hopefully with the new engine, the other 3 games have already been ported so footage is available. Hopefully they’re all the full remakes in the new engine so no emulation is required. One thing that will mess this up though is if they have to remove some of the music from Sonic 3. At the end of the day I doubt it will be better that sonic 3 complete or angel island revisited, no way they will include such customisation. I’d still buy though if there is a physical copy sold.
That’s ridiculous. Even the Mew locked into the Pokeball Plus I can understand due to it being an “in game item” but locking a simple game mechanic? Imagine if breath of the wild had a “shrine amiibo” that you had to use on launch
