Update:

In a definite 'yikes' moment for SEGA's PR team, Eurogamer has now reported that a press release it received from the company names the game as Sonic Rangers; the PR is quoted as follows:

Announcing new console experiences, Sonic Colors: Ultimate and Sonic Rangers, further details on Netflix's Sonic Prime, mobile news, musical events and much more!

An updated press release excludes this name, with SEGA telling Eurogamer the it was "an older version that was shared incorrectly".

Original Article:

At the very end of the first-ever 'Sonic Central' broadcast, Sega lifted the lid on a brand-new Sonic the Hedgehog title - speeding onto the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms sometime next year.

Details right now are limited, but a dataminer may have already uncovered some extra information about this upcoming release. A "leaked 4K version" of the Sonic teaser supposedly contains references to "Sonic Rangers" - which could quite possibly be the new game's title, and this is where the plot thickens...

This same title actually matches up with a rumour from earlier this year dating back to January. At the time, an individual claimed they did a focus test for a new Sonic game called "Sonic Rangers" and said it would be an "open world adventure" title drawing inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

There's also a line about "new" voice acting by Roger Craig Smith - who earlier this week announced he would be making a surprise return to his Sonic voice role. The same post signs off with a comment about how the build they played of this new Sonic game was "rough" and that it was "definitely" still in the early stages of development.
